Ambience? Absolutely not. Food? You bet. My parents started coming here after the groupon deal and just loved it so much that they decided to take my brother and me out for dinner there. We were both a little skeptical. I mean, buffet-style "Mediterranean food." It sounds like a recipe for disaster. Additionally, I've had some truly mind-blowing Persian/Lebanese/Greek/Turkish food in my life. However, I was very, very pleasantly surprised. The salads are mostly undersalted, but a salt shaker remedied that and I found them subtly flavored. The chicken and kofta were super flavorful, but a little dry. The falafel was incredible. Like little chickpea pillows packed with flavor and fried so well that they were perfectly crispy and not at all greasy. This is how falafel should be. Other delicious bites included the eggplant in molasses and the roasted cauliflower. The constant self-serve access to hot, freshly made pita is awesome. And you get an all-you-can-eat experience replete with a drink and flaky baklava for $12. This is good food. At a good price. And worth your time. read more

I first tried out Dimassi's after they ran several Groupon offers. Now I am officially hooked. I am not a fan in general of hummus or grape leaves (which are the first things that used to come to mind when I thought of Mediterranean food), but they have plenty of other things here which I really love. Tried Dimassi's lunch buffet today and was largely unimpressed. IMO the eggplant in the Baba Ganoush tasted burned, not roasted, and the tahini didn't have any taste at all. (I had the same complaint at Fadi's. I know they aren't associated anymore, but can't help but wonder if they still share the same recipes for these items?) The chicken shish was dry, as was the chicken in the creamed chicken & mushroom dish (can't remember its name). The gyros was too salty for me. Of the rice selections, I tried only the rice with vermicelli and the rice with eggplant, but found them both just ok. It's rice - what can you expect? Most disappointing was the roasted cauliflower - it tasted like it was soaked in lemon juice. It wasn't exactly bad, but I love unadulterated cauliflower, and this just didn't do it for me. However, the roasted eggplant was really good, as was the garlic sauce and the rice pudding. I know I didn't try all the selections on the buffet, but I can only eat so much at one sitting! I do like that theirs is an all day buffet, so I might be back for dinner, but it's a little far for me to drive. If I'm going to drive that far, there are other restaurants in the area that I like more. Also, the restaurant was uncomfortably warm. (It was 102F today, so maybe not surprising, but gee, kick the a/c up a notch!) I felt sorry for the patrons who had to sit at the communal tables with sweaty strangers. I think I'll stick to Ali Baba. Fewer selections, but I've never had burned Baba Ganoush there and their roasted cauliflower is to die for! read more

Very thankful we utilized our previously purchased Groupon for this horrible buffet and didnt spend a single penny more. Groupon is what motivated us to try this place and now that we have, we will never return. I am a huge Mediterranean food fan and this place was sub par to say the least. The gyro meat was hard as a rock from being dried out and the greek salad was wilted...it was 11:30am on a Sunday. Zero excuses for that. Yes, there were several options to choose from however every item my husband and myself sampled we were dis-satisfied. I'd go to either Ali Baba or almost any other Mediterranean restaurant before you waste your time trying this place. My absolute favorite Mediterranean buffet is in Fort Worth at a place called Hedarys -- I believe they also have an Allen location, never tried that one though. read more

We found this restaurant by chance on a recent trip to Dallas, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am always looking for food as delicious and flavorful as what I had in the middle east, and this compared very favorably. We really enjoyed the buffet format vs. menu, as well. The pita was being baked on site in a hearth oven, the baba ghanoush had a delightfully smoked flavor, and the yogurt with garlic was divine. This is place is great. After the first time, my husband and I were going like twice a week! At first the buffet was 9.99, then all of a sudden, one day it jumped to 12.99! It's still worth it, but I enjoyed the cheaper price. The food is great and the bread is the best. Drinks, coffee, tea and baklava are included in the price, so it's great. I would love to have more coffee or tea after the meal, but the water is a little bleachy tasting, which makes my tea taste bad. Otherwise, the environment is family friendly and you see all kinds of people there. Give it a try! read more

I lke Di Massi's although its not my favorite place for Mediterranean. But its large selection; its warm, just from the oven pita; and its baklava included in the price are enough to keep me coming back. The ambience is--well, lacking--just one big room with school cafeteria tables and a long buffet line. Service is invisible with tables often needing bussing, but the food is usually replaced quickly on the serving line--although the last time we were there, the baklava ran out soon after we arrived and wasn't replaced until we were about to leave ( and we would have left sooner if I hadn't been determined to wait for it...) So we'll be back, but it won't be a top pick... read more

I eat here fairly often and I recommend that you give them a try. Restaurant is set up buffet style and has a wide variety of food to choose from. They have quite a few vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free offerings available for those with dietary restrictions such as myself. Buffet includes everything from fresh salads, several rice dishes, meats of all sorts (chicken, lamb, beef, etc.), falafel, pastas, potato dishes, fresh brick oven baked bread, hummus, Mediterranean style pizzas, and more. Where I really think this place gets their set up right is that your price INCLUDES a drink (soda, tea, and coffee) which is something I never see at any other buffet. After all, if it's all you can eat, you may as well include a drink with that rather than charging $3 extra for a soda. You can also get food to go and that's charged by weight and not a set price. I wouldn't recommend buying the food per pound deal, the math on that doesn't work out well, plus after reading other reviews regarding it, further confirms my concerns. As far as Mediterranean restaurants go, Dimassi's stands out. I would rate Dimassi's as a four-star, buffet-style Mediterranean restaurant which is located at the intersection of Campbell Road and Highway 75 in Richardson, Texas. When I come to this restaurant, I know the selection of freshly-made food is abundant, the price is reasonable, and the atmosphere is very welcoming, too. Dimassi's has a great variety of dishes ranging from typical Mediterranean food to other selections including Mexican enchiladas, fish, pizza and pastries. The best part of this buffet are the kefta kabobs which are delicious ground meat mixed with garlic and onion freshly-cooked from the grilled that will melt in your mouth. To complement a dish, one can pick pita bread, oregano, or cheese zaatar (a type of Arabic bread) which has an aromatic, freshly-baked smell. Among my favorite parts of the buffet are the variety of salads, especially the Greek and Lebanese ones, along with tabbouleh and at least four kinds of rice. They also have potatoes, egg plants, and other vegetables for people like me who don't consume products with gluten. Afterwards a person can make a selection from a diversity of desserts such as fresh fruits, rice pudding, and a delicious variety of baklava (typical Arabic sweets made out of filo dough, sugar and nuts). The price you pay for the food is very affordable; the lunch buffet is $10.99 from Monday through Friday and $12.99 at dinner time. Also, it includes a drink with the option of water or soda. The atmosphere is very pleasant with a big and bright open area along with friendly service. Even though the restaurant is always busy, seating is usually available. Furthermore, they allow one to book a part of the restaurant for private parties, but they will still keep other sections open to the public. I did NOT feel welcome there. I have driven by Dimassi's several times and I finally decided to try it. When I walked in there was no host/hostess to greet me. I asked myself: Do I seat myself and wait for a waitress? or Do I grab a plate and just eat? I decided this was probably a seat yourself place. I walked around looking for silverware and I saw none. After about 5 min looking at the food and unable to find silverware...I just left. As I was leaving, a man at the register with a large black moustache who was smiling, chatting up people, and accepting payment from a line of about 8 people suddenly stopped what he was doing, locked eyes with me, and gave me a dirty look. And it was a very expressive look to the point where I took offense at that look. That dirty look was the straw that broke the camel's back for me and left me with a bitter taste in my mouth of Dimassi's. Look, I do NOT go to restaurants for food because I got food at home. I go for service. I didn't get any service or food from Dimassi's... I don't plan to go back. Black moustache man can keep his dirty looks and his food. After really enjoying Kasra and reading the reviews here for similar restaurants with Mediterranean buffets, we decided to give Dimassi's a try on a Sunday afternoon. The place was very crowded - it was around 2 pm- and I completely understand the other reviews about the large number of children running all through the restaurant. I saw at least ten chasing each other everywhere as their mother sat there and watched. Very annoying - don't people have any manners and teach their children the difference between being at home and going out to eat? It's the main reason I probably won't go back. Although the food is good and there are a lot more food choices than Kasra or Ali Baba, the atmosphere just isn't enjoyable. Many, many tables loaded with dirty dishes so the only option was to sit right next to the buffet line. I would compare it to having a meal in the middle of Grand Central Station at rush hour. I did enjoy the food but there is more to the experience than just the food. They don't seem to care about that aspect at Dimassi's. Kasra for me. read more

good food buts needs new Eating lounge

I thought I would give this place a try since I found them on Groupon. When we arrived the place looked very empty, but it was still lunch time. There was a buffet line and many tables in the middle area. It is a self serve and self seating type restaurant. On first view, it was simple. As soon as me and my family sat down we noticed two men having lunch. One of these men was on the phone and ridiculously LOUD! Rude and LOUD! He was yelling and everyone could hear him. I know this would be something that no one could really do anything about if it was a guest, but this was no guest. This man yelling in a foreign language was the owner, a partner or some relative to the owner, or maybe both men were owners. Either way, it was annoying listening to this guy yelling which only sounded like pure gibberish. One of the guest, a gentleman in a suit asked very politely if the man yelling on the phone could keep it down or go outside. Seemed like hell broke lose and the foreign guy just started yelling at the guest, embarrassing and saying ridiculous stuff like, this is America and its a free country and I can do what I want and yell all I want, if you don't like it you can step outside. I was disgusted and couldn't bare my baby listening to this nonsense. This was the downfall from the begginning. And I'm not jus assuming this rude guy was probably the owner, friend or relative, I saw both men who were eating and being rude get up when they were done and hang out w the cashier/manager on the floor and step into the back area. Other disappointments; the ice machine was out of ice for about 30 min. I asked as well as other people about there being no ice and the man just said, Oh I have to refill it and walked away. As we were about to leave we noticed all the used empty tables around us, about 8 that had been dirty and not bussed since we arrived. There were dirty dishes on the buffet line that took the cashier/manager long enough to removed. And finally as we checked out, the counter on which the registered is located was filthy and dusty. You would think that that is the one places that gets cleaned everyday since its used all day everyday. Nonetheless I have to say it looked like it hadn't been clean in months. Looking more like the dirty fan above the stove when it's filled with grease and dust sets on it. Horrible experience, horrible people, dirty and never coming back. Notice I didn't mention the food, that's because all other Horrible experiences were a red flag and although the food wasn't the worst part, I can enjoy myself better somewhere else. Good thing I used Groupon and didn't pay regular price for what obviously was not worth it. read more
