This location is located at Royal Ln and N MacArthur next to the Race gas station. As we stepped in , we were a little confused on whether to wait for someone to help us get seated because there were hardly any staff in the restaurant with no one at the front desk. We noticed someone was playing with the phone who was actually the staff there. We were a little hesitant to ask if the person was working there but the staff never bothered to come up to check if we needed something. So there goes the 1 star of my 5 star review. To talk on the most important item which is the food, I must say that the varieties they had in their buffet was too many. Every single item from the pita bread and Hummus till the kebabs and rice tastes delicious. Even the soups were pretty good. They also had three dessert dishes. Sadly, I think Dimassis is in the process of pricing themselves out of business. The price is currently $19.39 + tax per person on weekends, which makes it a very expensive option for anyone with kids or elderly parents or members who don't intend to gorge themselves. I believe a buffet business model depends on lots of customers to amortize costs and ensure fresh food is being placed out, and I don't think most people are going to pay this. This place used to be packed, but on a Sunday at lunch time it was mostly empty. Even worse than the buffet prices are the to go prices. It's literally WAY more expensive to get food to go than to order the buffet. Expect to pay around $25 to $30 per person if you fill up a plate to go. I generally enjoy Dimassi's food for a quick, relatively cheap fix of buffet Mediterranean food. However, the lack of safety enforcement is unsettling, even during non-peak hours. * Biggest one for me: please proactively enforce customers to wear masks when they are at the buffet bar. Two men from different tables nonchalantly, with no mask, served themselves food at the bar. * Tables weren't cleaned quickly, so you had to sit at tables you didn't want. Another single eater had to eat at the opposite end of my table because other empty ones were dirty. It makes you wonder how clean the tables are you sit at. * Some of the staff were wearing their masks under their nose. I later saw same person who wore the mask properly. Just needs to be consistent. * I wish the door was left open to let fresh air in, and there were more sanitizer available. The only good thing is that customers were pretty consistent in wearing gloves when they got their food. I ate quickly and skipped dessert. I think Andalous ruined us to other med restaurants. The fattoush and tabouleh were ok, but they did not touch the flavor at the other restaurant I mentioned. The fish was drowning in butter and oil; it also tasted fishy, which is never a good sign of it's freshness. As others have mentioned, the restaurant is very open, so sound echoes. Yum! A great go-to for a healthy and delicious meal. Really any type of eater will find something they love here--gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, whatever. Come in, marvel at the Mediterranean food selection, and begin the journey towards satiety. The Food: GARDENS OF VEGETABLES AND PLATTERS OF MEAT. Tabouli: FRESH FROM THE FORBIDDEN GARDEN: The defining flavor of this dish is the parsley and merciless garlic, but they have tamed its domineering flavor. Refreshing is an understatement and this dish is perfect to complement the grilled meats and cleanse the palette. Roasted Cauliflower: ROASTED HEAVEN: Aside from being aesthetically pleasing with the copper roast marks on the alabaster white branches, the roasting gave this cauliflower strong, savoury flavours. It is very hearty and is the perfect choice for vegetarians, vegans, or anyone looking for a brief hiatus from meat. Keftedes (meatballs; in general): JUST BALLS: Tastes like boiled meatballs in a tomato-based sauce. Nothing too remarkable, but generally tasted like boiled meat with some pungent spices. Beef/Lamb Gyro: HYBRID MEAT RIBBON: Definitely taste the beef and lamb in between the flooding of spices. The gyro is tender with a beef-tongue consistency. The gyro maintains juicy, meaty moisture which goes along very well with the rice and vegetables. Beef Kebab: LOG OF MEAT THAT REMINDS ME OF ANOTHER LOG: Dry, tough, and holding back its true flavors (-1 star). Overall, the texture resembles too much of ground beef as opposed to something transformed from ground beef into something extraordinary. Lamb Shanks: THE SPIRIT AND MEAT OF THE LAMB: Delicious lamb without too much imposing and intimidating lamb flavor. The tendons and ligaments provide a gelatinous texture that complements the flanky meat. Eat these warm and immediately once you get them. When they are left out for too long, the colors darken and the meat becomes very dry and tough. It is the 8th wonder of the world in terms of its complex and nutty sweetness. The pistachio flavor stays in the background, but is enhanced by the rose water syrup. Bet you can't have just one. Rice Pudding: MILK OF MAGNIFICENCE: Cold and therapeutic sweet milks enrobing each rice grain makes this a dessert of refreshing simplicity. This pairs well with the intense meats and ends the buffet meal on a refreshing note. If you enjoy milk, this is the dessert that celebrates the simple sweetness of it. The Verdict: BASIC MEDITERRANEAN. As you should expect, any buffet does not live up to the expectations of any region's cuisine. In the case of Dimassi's Mediterranean Buffet, there are many pleasant dishes to sample, but also many left to be desired. My top choices would be the Tabouli, Roasted Cauliflower, Beef/Lamb Gyro, Lamb Shanks, Baklava, and Rice Pudding. As with any buffet, try to have a little bit of everything, because you're paying for more quantity than quality. Dimassi is definitely one my ultimate favorites when it comes to Mediterranean cuisine! I come here at least once every couple of months. The quality of the food is amazing and it surprises me every time. The restaurant also is VERY consistent and has never let me down. Some of my favorite buffet items would include the garlic butter sauce, the chicken noodle soup, the pita bread, the grilled chicken breasts/thigh and all of the vegetable salad items. Actually, I pretty much love everything here lol. I've been to Afrah's and the other Mediterranean restaurants, but they don't compare to Dimassi's at all. The price is very affordable and there is always groupon coupon deals. Overall: I STRONGLY recommend Dimassi to anyone and everyone.The Irving location is a lot cleaner compared to the Richardson location so try to go that location. The Richardson location was better. I came in at 6 and the food was a little cold and the pita bread stale. I was disappointed that they did not have baba ganoush and the selection was not as wide as the Richardson restaurant's. The only item I was impressed with was the falafel. There were a few different styles of hummus, a delicious, smoky babaganoush, lots of cold salads, freshly made falafel, and several flavorful flatbreads. The entrees were also great: there were too many to remember, but they ranged from mansaf to kufta to kebabs to gyro. There were beautifully grilled vegetables and roasted potatoes. I would have loved to have tried everything, but my stomach ran out of room. Besides, I really wanted to taste the variety of desserts. Besides lots of fruit, there was halwa, baklava, rice pudding, and some delightful jam cookies. The tab for my meal, including beverage, was around $16 at dinner time.
