Dim Sum Sam - BBQ Roast Duck with Chicken Noodle Soup - Dim Sum Near Me - New York, New York

After a tiring workday, I craved dumplings and decided to give this place a visit. I opted for Set B. The dumplings were delightful, and although the egg buns were out, the taro bun and pork bun made tasty substitutes. My partner and I enjoyed the experience so much that we returned the next day to try the black truffle shrimp dumpling, expecting a rich truffle flavor. To our surprise we didn't taste any truffle at all, however it did have a subtle truffle scent in the wrapper. The shrimp dumpling nevertheless remained delicious. read more

Welcome to Dim Sum Sam, where you can find the best Portuguese Egg Tarts and BBQ Roast Duck Noodle Soup north of Manhattan's Chinatown. That's right folks, our prayers have been answered! Here's what I love and normally get: - BBQ Roast Duck with Noodle Soup (egg noodle, pork soup) - Portuguese Egg Tart (3 pieces or more, trust me) - BBQ Roast Duck with Rice - Wonton Soup (comes with 5 or 6 wontons) - Plain Congee (for those cold or sick days when your mom isn't there to make it for you) - Iced HK Milk Tea - 1 piece of Peking duck (I get this if I want a light, small bao-size snack) Here's what I don't love: - Shumai (not as good as Awesum Dimsum) Everything is so affordable (esp considering you're in Flatiron), the unassigned seating has modern furnishings, and the workers are very nice (pls be nice to them, they deal with a lot of foot traffic). My preference is to get delivery or takeout and/or eat at Madison Square Park because the foot traffic in there can get pretty busy! Enjoy! read more

In my opinion, at least for hargow, shumai and cheung fun, most dimsum places offer more or less same taste profile. Or maybe I am not sophisticated. A deciding factor is the temperature of the food served. I have been to several places that disappointed me with cold dumplings. Tried this place several times and all dimsums we ordered were served in right temperature (albeit plastics containers and minus one star). Besides classic dimsum dumplings, egg tart and noodle soup were also decent. Easy to order and pick up system is also convenient. read more

The food was ok, not so great so I can't give 4 stars. I would eat again but I don't like the options they provide to what I like. The chicken dumpling was mmm ok, the scallion pancakes was crispy and different than I normally eat but I enjoyed the flavor after it was soften from chewing. The shrimp rolls was skinny but good to me. read more

Very filling meal at an affordable price! Tucked in the middle of the block between 5th Ave. and Park Ave on 23rd street, with food shops left and right, Dim Sun Sam still stands out with the red sign and sleek silver glass exterior showcasing the deliciously roasted BBQ ducks and freshly baked goods near the counter. Even near the end of lunch hour, business was booming with many of the tables at the back full. It was convenient to order at the front then pick up to dine-in at the back. There was a handy tv screen hung in the back which tells you when orders were ready by the number on the receipt. The wonton noodle soup was perfect for today's cold weather. Each wonton was packed tight with its juicy pork and shrimp stuffing - you could actually see and taste the jumbo shrimp! The bbq roast pork was well done in ratio of fat to meat. Don't overlook the egg because that was the hidden star of this dish! It was infused with flavor and the yolk was beautifully half-cooked. The Portuguese egg tart is a must get! The crust was very flaky and filling not overly sweet. Wrapped up the meal with some hot chrysanthemum tea and I was super stuffed but satisfied. The tables and bathrooms (2 towards the very back) were all kept clean. There was a condiment section in the back next to where all the trash and trays would be placed. read more

I rarely come to this type of place as if I want authentic Chinese food, I would generally go down to Chinatown or even Flushing. But of course, a place such as this would have value for locals nearby. Stepping in, this place is very clean and has a sitting area in the back. So decor wise and customer service wise, they are on point. This place offers variety of dim sum dishes along with other cooked items such as BBQ meats, and noodle soups. That is key as not everyone would fancy dim sum. None of the dishes will wow you as they seem to know their menu and keep its simple and make sure they are executed and presently well. I got the soy sauce chicken over rice dish for $13 after tax. Price wise, it's what you would expect outside of Chinatown so this is not an issue. The chicken is what you would expect if you go anywhere else, but the way they complimented with Chinese vegetables, half egg, and pickled vegetables are nice touches. It tasted really good and is what I would expect from a simple dish such as this, but beautifully executed. My only minor complaint is I wish they have given more rice. Overall, I would recommend. read more

Went here twice when we went to NYC last week. First for dinner we ordered the porridge, noodle, roasted pork belly and roasted duck and egg rolls. The porridge and noodle were okay but the roasted pork belly and duck were amazing! Very crispy outside and juicy inside. Amazing. Went back the next day in the morning and we had the tantart, pork buns, ca siu pao and chicken curry puff. All were amazing! So good! read more

Ordered delivery because I had a craving for bbq roast pork rice rolls, and somehow ended up with an entire bbq roast pork themed meal. Ordered two orders of bbq roast pork rice rolls, the rice bowl combo with bbq roast pork over rice which comes with an egg tart and an iced lemon tea; they ran out of egg tarts (it's my fault really because I placed my order at 8:45p) and called me promptly to ask if I wanted to replace it with either the roast pork bun or the salt egg taro bun- thought it'd be funny to get everything roast pork, so we picked the bun. Omg SO MUCH FOOD. I'm grateful for the pieces of fresh green choy sum. The rice rolls were perfect - jam packed with succulent bbq roast pork bits. The rice bowl comes with half an egg whaaaat. The crispy bbq pork bun was a bit lackluster but I honestly wonder if it's because it was literally bc closing time when we ordered. 10/10 recommend this place if you've got a hankering for bbq roast pork aka Char siu. read more

3.5 round up to 4. There's a lot of "fast casual" or "faster" informal dim sums restaurants out there and this is the best one I've been to by far. All of the dishes tasted really good and the portions were great. Recommend the char siu / roast pork. Service was good and prices were beyond fair. Solid recommend! read more

Food is fantastic. I both ordered take-outs or eat inside. Highly recommended in the area.

Holy COW! I ordered a few goodies from Dim Sum Sam via Doordash-- never heard of it previously and didn't have overly high expectations, but WOW they have absolutely blown me away. For dim sum, I ordered - Shrimp Dumpling/Har Gow: great. Super flavorful, juicy shrimp, a classic. - Crispy Shrimp Rolls: honestly a little thin and small for the price, but they managed to stay hot AND crispy for delivery! - BBQ Pork Buns: also a liiittle small, but i prefer it like that. Well filled and again, so flavorful!! - Chicken Congee: well seasoned and so comforting Now for the STANDOUT!!!! I took a chance and ordered the Pork Belly Rice Bowl and added Duck. Oh my GOD. The pork belly was absolutely amazing. I've had a lot of pork belly in my life and this was the most juicy, tender, delicious pork belly with a crispy edge on each bite! The sauce was a little sweet and a little savory and just so so good. I could have done without the duck, but also glad I tried it. The duck skin was perfectly crispy. The Pork Belly Rice Bowl alone is what convinced me to write this review. I am a convert and I will absolutely be ordering from Dim Sum Sam again soon! read more

I've ordered delivery from this place a few times now and was satisfied with my experience every time. I get the congee with century year old eggs and the eggs are plentiful everytime. Do not blink cause youll miss it. It's an inconspicuous little place, defitnetly a locals hole in the wall. Worth it with Chinatown awaiting? Yep. We had the Half duck and let's face it, ducknis great no matter what. Also tried the thousand year egg and its great, worth the wait! Get it? See what I did there? The shrimp was good and the Congi was tasty. Clean and cozy location, besides Chinatown is overrated there. read more

TLDR: Decent dim sum in a bright, clean fast food environment. Review of lunch on Thursday about 1 p.m. You order, pay and wait for your number to be called. If you are dining in, there is ample seating at the back - banquettes along the walls, a counter with stools and a few standard tables. You can check seating availability before you commit. The place is new, very clean, and brightly lit. The open kitchen is pretty impressive. The shrimp wonton soup came with five plump juicy dumplings - and a nicely seasoned broth. So far so good. Pork siu mai were juicy and flavorful, I added some of the hot oil from the condiments bar. An order of roast duck was a little disappointing, Not a lot of meat on our portion. I might try to order a full half duck next time to make sure I receive the meaty part of the breast. Har gow, another winner, fresh, delicate. Just a little soy sauce for these. Xlbs were more soupy than I expected given the reviews. I could have used a larger spoon, and the proper dipping sauce with ginger. The skins were thicker than usual, but that makes them portable if you are taking them to go. These jawns ain't going to replace Nan Xiang, but they are good enough. The steamed rice roll with minced beef didn't earn any fans - the three rolls were too heavy, and I have been spoiled by the new places in Flushing that grind their own rice flour. Finally, a roast pork bun - the outside crispy tasty, just the right amount of filling inside, slightly sweet. So five out of seven items we ordered pleased - maybe I'd try an order of the roast pork next time instead of the duck. Four stars. I'd Sam again. read more

Gawd was I surprised. I didn't expect much from delivery bc delivery. However, all the dishes arrived hot and yummy. The duck wonton soup was filled with duck. You'll love it if you like a bit of fat too. Shrimp dumplings were well-made and tasty. Shoot, I'm might order again tonight. read more

3.5 stars. Style is similar to Awesum Dimsum - order at counter and get yourself. Food is solid, maybe slightly less good than Awesum and smaller portions but environment is nicer. I was craving duck noodles and didn't want to go all the way to Chinatown to get them. I came across Dim Sum Sam on Yelp so I figured I'd give it a try. The restaurant itself is very chic and I was surprised they were serving dim sum late into the night. Regardless, I ordered some duck noodle soup and minced beef rice noodles. Both dishes were good and I see myself going back in the future. Heads-up if you're looking for a dim sum place that serves you with the carts, this is not the place. A welcome addition to the neighborhood! I had the roast duck and soy sauce chicken on rice, and everything tasted delicious. Like Chinatown level but in flatiron. Dishes are also affordable! De facto dim sum place to beat locally. Its becoming a habit now. Their roast meats are bomb (from a former flushing citizen!) Clean, modern, and doesn't kill on the price - volume model suits my tastes and wallet well. Better than awesum dim sum (sorry guys, though their combo specials are pretty good). Try this place out you won't regret it! read more

While the standard pork-and-chive dumplings are filled well and delicious, a $6 dumpling order is THREE little dumplings. Way overpriced considering there are plenty of dumpling options nearby (DiDi Dumpling, for instance has 5 for $4.75). Being a lover of congee, I also tried the Fish Filet Congee. I don't know what kind of fish's filets are hard and chewy, but that's the fish this place is using. While normally I would have a joyous anticipation of each morsel found in my congee, in this I dreaded each spoonful. I will dissuade anyone from going here. read more

Egg tart very good, taro bun delicious, excellent service!will come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm Cantonese and this is the real deal!! This is a fast food version of dim sum, so don't expect any service. The food is as authentic as it gets, down to the duck hanging in the window. - BBQ meats - we went all out and ordered every single BBQ meat: chicken, pork belly, roast pork, and duck. Each one excellent. My favorite was the duck, my husband's favorite was the roast pork, and our friends gobbled up the pork belly. - Congee with pork and thousand year old egg - they made it perfectly. The rice had a good consistency and it was not too salty. Not for everyone, but a Cantonese favorite. - Dim sum - --- egg tart - highly recommend (one of the best I've had), flaky crust, and lightly caramelized top --- siu mai - husband's favorite --- rice seafood roll - perfect texture and had plenty of seafood and dish --- duck spring roll - crispy but not oily, but couldn't really taste the duck --- pineapple taro bun - crispy top and lightly sweet filling --- baked pork bun - almost comparable to Mei Lei Wah pork buns, i.e. it was so good Best of all, they also had a different sauce for everything, unlike another dim sum place nearby. Pricing is a little higher than Chinatown but you're paying for Flatiron. We often get takeout from here and we live 15 blocks away. It is still hot when we get home. read more
