Came in for warm soup after the Macy's day parade. Appreciated that emperor dumpling was open on Thanksgiving, even though they were planning to close early. We only saw one person behind the counter tending to a very full restaurant until later when another gentleman from the back emerged. The meat was well seasoned and tender. Service was fast. Unfortunately their registers were down, so they could only take cash. Thankfully I had cash on me. I asked the cashier to have the cook fry dumplings on all sides but she blew me off. I would not go back. Other food- sesame and orange chicken was just ok. Best thing is it was hot and made fresh. We were scouting restaurants for my daughter to eat while going to school in NY besides dorm food and we found this place, quite inexpensive and very tasty. We went on a weekday and it has lunch specials with drinks for $10. There is plenty of food for the price and it tasted excellent too. My daughter likes this place. It does have many dishes to choose from and we tried different dishes and they're all good. The lunch is packed very nicely and my daughter can eat lunch and dinner with the portions they give us. Mid and not worth the price I ordered the pork ribs over rice and all of the ribs were practically all bone. The dumplings were good though.

Dumplings not made in-house. It's just okay, reminded me of Panda Express quality. The dumplings were big but didn't have much flavor going on in them. Dumplings in miso soup was different but again, we had to doctor it up at the table ourselves. I ordered the egg drop soup and I have never seen something like it, it wasn't yellow it did not taste like I dropped so it was like water down soup with seaweed. Additionally, the chicken and broccoli was drenched in sauce to the point where it looked like it was just swimming in it. I will say that the fried rice was pretty good along with the pork bun, but nothing too rave about. My friend is pescatarian so we tried the delicious fish and vegetarian options on the menu, but I will *definitely* be back for the pork fried pork and celery dumplings (they smelled SO good) and the beef noodles which also looked really good at the table next to me. I was drooling so much that my friend said she wouldn't mind if I ate the beef in front of her- but I was honestly so full from the generous portion sizes, I didn't have any room left! Okay enough planning the next meal, back to what we actually ate LOL It's named Emperor Dumpling so of course we had to start with ! Both orders (steamed shrimp Dumplings and pan fried vegetable dumpling) arrived hot and steaming! Perks of a smaller restaurant. The pan fried vegetable dumplings were SO delicious! Perfectly crispy on the outside and flavorful and soft on the inside. The kind owner said they are made in house each day, and they have 10 different types of vegetables inside. Super tasty! I am sorry to have eaten them too quickly to take a picture of the inside! We also had the steamed shrimp dumplings which arrived steaming with two sauces- the spicy one was especially tasty! Just make sure you mix it before eating! Also saw the house pan fried shrimp pork mushroom dumplings- and I am coming back for them and the pan fried pork and celery dumplings! These dim sum taste really fresh and clearly homemade. I asked anyway to confirm, and the very polite owner - very Confucius like himself said that all of the dumplings are homemade on site except for the non house shrimp dumplings. Next we had the salmon teriyaki with steam white rice $12.95 It was a generous portion of salmon and came with bok choy as well as white rice. Very tasty teriyaki sauce, the salmon was well cooked and well seasoned. The other half will be my lunch tomorrow!!! $12.95 is a very reasonable price for this large portion, and I would DEFINITELY recommend for a lunch choice. We also had the pan fried vegetable lo mein noodles which were super tasty. Again a very generous portion of both noodles and vegetables. It was very clearly made with fresh vegetables and not frozen ones like I see in many lo mein and fried rice dishes these days. I think it makes all the difference to use fresh veggies, which is why I will definitely be coming back to Emperor Dumpling. It was also reasonably priced at $13.95 and would easily feed 2 or 3 people. All in all, was a great experience for a causal and unassuming restaurant on 28th and 6th ave. I am relieved to have a new spot for the next time I am in midtown and desperate to refuel for lunch - and want something satisfying but not too unhealthy, Emperor Dumpling will be my choice! The location is very convenient to Herald Square/34th street A/B/C/D trains as well as the 1 train which my friend took to meet me. COVID related details: The staff were all wearing masks! This is my second time coming here. The first time I had beef and broccoli with white rice. I can only say it tasted like someone who didn't know what they were doing put together. This second time I'm having the 'duck with rice noodle soup'. It has the look of a promising and delicious duck soup but it tasted like it was cooked for someone who suffers from high blood pressure. No flavor whatsoever. I even added a little salt to it and it didn't help. This spot always has customers which drew me to it on my first try. The second attempt was from searching for soup on this cold rainy day. I didn't realize I was walking to the same spot I had the beef and broccoli from until a a few minutes before arrival. I was graciously invited for a dinner at Emperor Dumpling and was able to try a wide variety of dishes: pan fried dumplings, dim sum, beef noodles and lo mein. The pan fried chive and pork dumplings were fantastic. My bf who I went with, who doesn't really like dumplings, liked these and their quality was very good. The dim sum offerings were solid but definitely not the star of the show and same with the lo mein and beef noodles.
