I am a black woman who was treated like a criminal for wanting to use the restroom in this store. Black people who have shopped at this store, please share your stories here. I am sure there are many based on how I was treated in only five or so minutes of being there. I went in and I immediately asked the ladies at the makeup counter downstairs where I might find their restrooms. They told me a very vague "upstairs", and they wouldn't say more when I asked again. No other instruction. That was obviously not helpful once I got up there, because the store is a giant maze. I asked the manager upstairs where to find the restrooms. She gave me the real directions, and I went there quickly. There was no way that I had time to shoplift anything from their store. Which they would know because they were following me the whole time and I took the most direct route to their restroom, only pausing once to check the price tag on a dress which I did not even remove from the rack. I don't know what kind of sleight of hand artist they thought I was, but there was no way I could have lifted anything. And it was very clearly not my fault that I was made to travel the length of their entire store just to find a restroom. Their restroom is tucked away at the very back corner of their second floor because their entire facility is built to combat shoplifting. I really wonder if that is the case for their stories which are not built in predominately black areas? Perhaps someone could let me know. Even their automatic doors are made to slowly open to the right of where a customer would normally expect to go in and out of an automatic door. This is so disorienting, that I nearly ran in these strange doors twice. I wonder whether these would actually be helpful to wheelchair-bound customers, because what looks deceptively like an accomodatingly wide double door is actually one slowly opening narrow door through which you may or may not be able to fit a wheelchair. I thought wheelchair accomodation was the very purpose of these doors? Guess not. At that point, several members of the staff followed me to the restroom and inside. I only slightly noticed this at first, because I was very focused on the task at hand besides that one tiny pause to glance at the price of a dress. I'm middle-aged and when I have to go, I really have to go. I was just looking for a safe, clean restroom to use so that I could be on my way. Once I went to wash me hands I noted three different employees who were pretending to primp in the mirrors but were, instead, watching me. They were all dressed similarly in blazers and pencil skirts because that seems to be the employee "uniform." There were two white women who went to the restroom at the same time I did. Both of them had big bags on their person, but they were not watched and followed. I tested this surveillance by washing my hand way longer than needed, trying to wait the employees out. One after the other, they were forced to leave because they had been really awkwardly standing around glancing at me in the mirrors and I was starting to glance right back at them. Two ended up leaving awkwardly. The third, who had been hanging back near a stall, followed me out of the restroom. It seems like they were instructed to try not to leave me alone in the restroom. Probably because it is the one place they could not legally have cameras. For them to have mobilized that fast, they were either informed to follow me the second I walked in, or this is their regular routine when a black person dares to use their restroom. One of the ladies who monitored me in the restroom like they were prison guards, was standing with a cell phone at the counter near the entrance to the hallway that led to the restroom when I left. She was once again pretending to primp as she took a selfie that was only showing the hallway entrance behind her. I avoided cell phone lady, by trying to go around her because, while I am totally fine with being recorded by their store cameras (even down the massive maze-like prep walk that is the route to their restrooms), I draw the line at being recorded by some strange woman on a cell phone. That is beyond anything a store should ever be doing. That's just weird. I was followed all the way to the second floor exit, where the manager I had asked directions from was waiting with the first "primping" lady who had to awkwardly give up her bathroom watch on me. They both stood on either side of the aisle, directly watching me as I left. They had smug expressions as if they were some crime-fighting super team that somehow mean girl bullied me (a grown woman, mind you!) into not shoplifting. I had been planning to come back when I had more time to possibly buy that dress that I paused to see, but now, due to their extremely uncomfortable behavior, I have been put off ever shopping there again. I would urge other black people who have shopped at this store to please share their experiences. read more

So I've been having this watch since November I order online. I needed the links taken out so I went to Dillard's and I got there as they opened. The store was super clean and the smells of perfume made me want to shop lol. Due to my watch being so tiny it took a minute for them to service it but in the waiting time the store clerk was really nice and state the issue. After about 30 minutes I was able to leave with my links taken out and now I can finally wear my watch! Everyone was accommodating and pleasant and I have no doubt I would be a repeat customer. read more

Two of the shirts were size 4XL and too large, and the third shirt was a 3XL, which we decided to keep. Upon speaking with the sales clerk, we were informed that the 4XL shirts were clearance items and could not be returned. That information was accepted without issue. However, the situation quickly shifted from a routine return into something much more troubling. We were made to feel as though we were being profiled as potential shoplifters--simply because we were carrying items into the store, and, frankly, because of the color of our skin. The staff, led by Manager Stephanie Pena, treated us with suspicion and made us feel incredibly uncomfortable. We were openly carrying the shirts and had come in with full intention of conducting a legitimate return, yet the tone, body language, and demeanor of the staff made it very clear that we were not being treated like regular customers. Even more telling was a comment made by another store associate who witnessed the interaction and said, "I have told them to not do that." This disturbing remark suggests that discriminatory or biased behavior may be a recurring issue at this location. I am a regular customer at Dillard's and have made many purchases from this store in the past. I have always loved the brand and often recommend it to others. The sales clerk was helpful with getting the shoes and when I pointed out the tag on the shoe had a different price from what rung up she asked for assistant. He came out and said no it is wrong someone must have put the tag on. Then make the comment "I'm not saying you did it young lady, just saying it happened." First of all I am 46 and I look my age and he is probably half of age so saying young lady didn't sound genuine. I took the swatch home and smelled it throughout the day. It was still delightful. That was my sole purpose of going there. I wasn't looking forward to visiting again but the location is convenient for my commute home after work. I asked if the fitting rooms were open, since COVID kinda shut all that down, thankfully they were so we continued to shop and find some really cute cocktail dresses for an event coming up. I like Dillard's. I shop at Dillard's. But the Cedar Hill location is TRASH! Associates standing around chatting among themselves and NOT offering assistance. The music is literally BLARING from the MAC bar. It's night club volume. So loud I could literally hear it before I entered the store. There is music throughout the store for shoppers at at a reasonable volume, but it can barely be heard because of the MAC music screaming in your face. Is Dillard's promoting loud music or the merchandise? IT IS OFFENSIVE!!! Train your staff. Level up or continue to lose business. read more

Manager "Dee" is unprofessional and failed to meet the standard of care that you'd expect from Dillard's. We purchased an item that was missing a price tag, the cashier went to another department, came back and entered something in the computer. Few days later, we tried returning the item. They said the item on the receipt didn't match the item on hand. We explained the situation. They still refused to issue a refund. I told "Dee" to call up the cashier and ask her, he immediately got defensive and said she couldn't possibly remember a customer from 6 days ago. I corrected him that I wasn't expecting her to remember a customer, but she should be able to recall an item without a price tag. He capitulated and issued the refund begrudgingly. I was disappointed on a recent visit to the shoe department. Saturday is a busy day in this area, and I arrived early when there were maybe 1-3 customers and tons of sales people. However, the young sales people apparently thought talking about their weekend plans was more important than assisting a customer. I continued to walk around them picking up shoes by them several times to see when one would approach for assistance. Not a one. They glanced at me and continued their conversations. Finally, after walking around with shoes to try on and few customers in the department, an older sales woman and approached and greeted me. Wow! You mean a human talked to me? Face to face contact? As a transgender woman I find this store excellent and meets my needs. Every department I shop J get excellent service. The cosmetic staff are especially helpful both Lancôme and Estée Lauder. I shopped here on New Years Day and I will never shop there again. First they made an announcement no large bags were allowed in the store. Secondly, they had security guards(police officer) sitting at the escalator. You couldn't take items from downstairs upstairs and visversale. So that ment you had to stand in long lines twice. Thirdly, you had to wait in another long line because they had a police officer at the door checking receipts and searching bags. Dillard's has been one of my favorite department stores for a long time. However, I get frustrated at this particular Dillard's because most sales associates at this store just don't seem interested in their customers. I have had to wander around this store dozens of times, trying to find someone who will assist me at a register so that I can pay for my items, and it is difficult to find an employee here for help in any capacity. Like another reviewer, I have had to stand for minutes at a time while employees have had personal conversations with each other, fully knowing that I was standing there waiting to pay, but they didn't seem to care. (I have to note, however, that there is one female sales associate who seems to go the extra mile, and when I'm upstairs shopping for clothing, I walk across the store to the plus-size department to pay at her register as that is where she has been working lately in the store.) read more

Do not shop at Dillards. You could buy an item today and it could go on sale tomorrow and you will not get a price adjustment. MOST retailers give price adjustments if the item goes on sale within 7 days. Dillards does not. Additionally, their customer service is horrible. I bought a pair of Ugg boots for $220 in the Cedar Hill, Tx store on Friday. They went on sale today for $107. I could not get a price adjustment. I spoke to the store manager. She told me I could return them. They would put them back on the shelf and I'd have to come back the next day to purchase them. She wouldn't even hold them for me to make sure I'm able to purchase them again. I will never shop at Dillards again. I will stick to Macys, Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus. We got there right when the store open for the only purpose of getting links taken out of my watch because we wanted to beat the post-Christmas rush. When we got to the counter though, management had no idea where the keys were, and they were in complete chaos because several people had not showed up for their shifts. We were told we could wait until they found the keys, so we waited for about 15 minutes. When they found the keys we waited for someone to take care of us only to be told they wouldn't be doing links today. I'm not sure why two employees could wait around while a few people on the other side of the counter tried on watches, but no one could take 5 minutes to take 2 links out of my watch. So this store is an example of why I hate to go a department store. We get there, enter the lower lever and are greeted by a police officer. Ok, I understand there are shop lifters. My wife is going to ask for an exchange on a defective item which I will not even focus on.(NO SERVICE). She has to go upstairs to customer service and in the meantime I stay down stairs shopping. I am not looking for anything in particular but I will say that I am not a shopper, I am a buyer. Within a few minutes I find 3 items worth several hundred dollars. Before I pay for them I want my wife's opinion so I start my way upstairs. As I get on the escalator a security lady calls out to me and says that I can't take those items upstairs without paying for them. Ok, so I can't just jump off the escalator, so I told her I would come back down. She wasn't satisfied so she followed me up. As I reach the second level my wife is right there and I proceed to ask her opinion and the security lady is now 6 inches away. Again she tells me to take them downstairs. Got it. You don't want me to shop here. So we proceed to return the items to the lower level but before we can do that, another officer asks us what we are doing with those items. Now I feel like Pretty Woman. What Dillard's doesn't realize is that not only did they lose several hundred dollars in sales today but many thousands of future sales.
