This is only for the men's suits section (although it was interesting walking through the women's undies part since I parked in the wrong area). 360 days of the year I wear jeans and a regular shirt or t-shirt. But now and then I need to dress up a little more, and a couple of those days are coming up. I needed a new sport coat and dress slacks since the only dress-up clothes I have are leftover from funerals and a black suit is pretty damn boring, not to mention the unhappy memories associated with it. I walked into the suit section, was greeted by the sales guy (the head of that department), and I explained I wanted something nice, but not Armani class, since I'd only wear it a couple times a year. He fixed me up with a darkish blue sport coat, medium gray slacks, lightish gray shirt and a red tie for much less that $1K. I was easy-- the first coat he picked out was fine with me, the second pair of slacks were OK, and the second shirt. The first tie he picked was fine. So, I made it easy for him, too. It's a totally anonymous uniform, just like every other guy who has to dress up wears, but that's OK with me. The sport coat will also look OK with jeans. They did some alterations and had everything ready for me in 2 days. In almost 6 years, the only place I'd gone in the Barton Springs Square Mall was the Apple Store before this. All in all, it was painless. Now I have to use Google to look up how to tie a tie, since I haven't done it in years. read more

OK I love Dillard's most twice a year. In January and May when they have their giant, discount off the clearance item sales. Dillards turns into a magical place where I can suddenly afford everything. Nothing is off limits, half off of 75%? What? I will take one of everything! No seriously, it is a good deal. I am going to get a little personal here and talk about their undergarments and sleepwear section. They have top notch brands, and the quality is great. At the biannual sales you can get some spectacular deals here. And as we all know ladies this stuff isn't cheap so a huge discount is appreciated. I also have gotten the best service in this section of Dillards. The ladies that work in the dept are so nice and helpful... even if you are shopping the double discount table! This review is mostly for Ashley at the MAC counter. If it were just for her I would give it 5 stars, amazing customer service from her it was like talking to an old friend! I am a makeup artist so when I go shopping for makeup I rarely need advice or to be steered in the right direction. I also cannot stand pushy salespeople because I know what I need and what works for me. Once I mentioned that I work in the beauty industry to Ashley we just chatted it up and she helped me narrow down my choices to some great, unique selections that I am really excited to have. She let me shop around and swatch anything I liked while she helped other customers. I could tell she was just as lovely with others as well. Thanks Ashley! I will def come back to this MAC in the future, even though I hadn't been in a Dillard's in years I will be back to see her. Whomever helped me in the Clinique/Keihl's department, however, was honestly kind of insulting. She approached me and asked what I was looking for and when I mentioned I was looking to purchase new face wash she looked at me and asked "for acne"? Okay look, I know what I look like but that's the kind of thing you wait for customers to mention or maybe suggest within a consultation not right off the bat. On top of that it takes a few more questions to identify what's right for a client even if they have a few blemishes. I still bought a couple of items from her but I would have rather given the commission to Ashley and I'm not sure why I didn't just take the products over to MAC. My experience in the shoe department was absolutely lackluster. The girls working there never smiled at me once, offered me help, and never thanked me for my purchase. I was the only one in the department! It was kind of shocking honestly because that's not the service I'm used to receiving in years past. Got a great pair of shoes at a great price though. Overall, Ashley was the saving grace of my Dillard's trip. I would not have come here if I hadn't received a gift card for Xmas but I will be back to see her in MAC. read more

After a color match, the sales associate couldn't find my color (I watched her dig for a while and thought nothing of it at the time), so she slipped the next closest color in my bag trusting I wouldn't notice. I did notice, and had to drive an hour out of my way to return it. When I returned it, she entered the return code as Customer Changed Mind, not Incorrect Color. Liar. The only thing I've changed my mind on is ever shopping at this Clinique ever again. Dishonest sales practices and insincere apologies. read more

01/17/2014 Tip: Bad service in the men's suit department tailoring section. Gave them 2 days more than when they told me everything would be ready. Came today and they were not done. They apologized and guaranteed me that they would have them in an hour. Came back in an hour 1/2 and they were stilling missing items. Asked me to come back again for a third time this weekend. Thanks for wasting my time and gas. I will remember this if I am ever in the store near closing time to take my sweet ass time. Update: 02/17/2014 I met with Gene the Manager of the Suit department and he understood my frustration and apologized. He offered and sent out a Dillard's gift card to try to make amends for all the mess-ups. I am still frustrated, but meeting folks like Gene can making a bad customer service experience a bit better. I will do business with them again, but will look for Gene to make sure it is done right. read more

- Repulsive customer service at every location I've been to. - Super outdated layout (um, still keeping cosmetics behind glass?) as well as products. I've seen items at full price that I could easily find elsewhere on sale (like at Nordstrom Rack which means it's already been through the Nordstrom cycle months prior). - Ridiculous return policy (one day over the 30 day policy with receipt and Dillards sticker on product and still had to get a store credit). I do not live by a mall and rarely shop at one, therefore, it takes some planning to get to one. - Did I mention horrible customer service? If you're going to shop department stores I highly suggest sticking to Nordstrom or Saks. read more

This review is only for the Junior's department. I have noticed some improvement recently in the brands they are now offering. I've seen some Scrapbook clothing and found a wider selection of Levi's is being carried. However they are still overrun with chola-chic so-called professional attire. Cheaply made rayon and polyester pant and skirt suits are still their specialty and take up a good 3/4 of the store, but whoever is in charge of the buying for Dillard's is slowly coming around and improving their offerings. Hopefully with Nordstrom to compete with they'll get their act together and spruce up their brand offerings but I wouldn't count on it soon. read more

My daughter and I went to the lingerie department and the young redhead who waited on us on 08/01/16 at 12:30 pm was a breath of fresh air. She was knowledgeable about the bras control undergarments. She was very helpful and pleasant and answered all my questions with straight forward information. She was excellent. - (Erin's mom). The shoe department jerk needs a new freaking attitude and needs learn that you never argue with customers and that you should never argue with me. I have been shopping so many years here. I really liked it until today. I just noticed The customer service was not great as Nordstrom. Nordstrom's Return policy and their service are much better. I will not shop here anymore since I was totally disappointed by their customer service. Rachel in customer service was extremely rude to my family today. There was a mistake made by the computer system on a return I brought in. She tossed my papers back to me and wasn't at all professional in our interaction. I rarely shop at Dillard's. I was trying to expand the stores where I shop. I had called the store in advance to ask which door I should go in, since I recently had surgery and am unable to walk far. I was told any register. So we went to closest register. The original clerk couldn't return one of my items because of a computer error. She sent me upstairs to customer service; I had difficulty walking around to customer service. When I arrived Rachel was impatient and rude about this transaction. Maybe she had a hard day, but if she's a representation of the company, this soured me to ever shopping at Dillard's. Thank God there were other customers to witness the interaction. They found me later in the store and gave me their contact info in case I need it. BEWARE of the Furniture Department at Dillard's. My friends and I were couch shopping and found a couch that we were going to buy. As we were trying out the couch and discussing prices the furniture manager, Mari Pugh, comes to us and sarcastically asks us 'do you see a lounge area anywhere.' We thought she was joking but to our surprise she was being completely serious and unprofessional with us. We were accused of "destroying her furniture" (we were sitting on the couch for less than 5 minutes) and as we were walking to leave she yelled at us 'you should try Macy's' and another employee stated 'or Rooms To Go'. She referred to us as teenagers multiples times and was prejudiced towards us based on the way we looked. I am filing a complaint to the store department manager and writing a letter to corporate. read more

This review is specifically written to let the Ladies know about the free facials and FREE Gift with Purchase at the Clinique counter that started today. For those of you who do not like long winded personal perspectives skip the next few paragraphs. I owned 2 clothing stores for 10 years and it ruined me for the whole shopping experience. After 10 years of going to trade shows and picking out clothes for other people I have no desire or need to shop for myself since I have 3 closets and a spare bedroom full of clothes. So, why on earth would I ever even think of going to a Dillard's in a mall? My Daddy insisted that he pay for some makeup and "modern" accessories for me for my Sister's upcoming wedding and gave me my Mom's Dillard's credit card because he knows me so well and knows I would show up without either. So, why am I reviewing a Dillard's and giving them 4 stars. Well, I will tell you. Samira made my day! I stopped by the Clinique counter last week looking for a foundation that I liked the last time I ever wore makeup for the wedding pictures. I told Samira straight up that I never ever wear anything more than tinted moisturizer and just needed the minimum for a photo shoot. She proceeded to wash my face and evaluate my skin - I have very dry skin and big pores. She gave me wonderful facial massage dabbed on some Pore Minimizer that instantly shrunk my pores and made my skin look smooth as a baby's butt - why do I need any makeup when this stuff makes my skin look so smooth? Well, they just got in their new line of mineral-rich Superbalanced Powder Makeup and decided to use me as their ginny pig and parade me all around showing off their new product. I purchased the poor minimizer and the powder makeup and got outside and hated the way my face looked like I was wearing makeup. So, my experience today returning the makeup is why they get 4 stars. I went in to return the makeup and was not looking to purchase anything else. Until, I saw the free gift with purchase and acted dumb so I could get another free facial and skin evaluation. I decided on the small Clarifying Lotion for extra dry skin and a wonderful plum colored lip gloss so I could get a "Free Bonus with any purchase of $21.50 or more". The Ladies in the lingerie and jewelry department were also super helpful today. But, it was all about the free gift bag - big enough for my other travel toiletries filled with useful free goodies (Full Potential Lip Pump and Shine in a violet shimmer shade, Even Better Skin Tone Corrector, Liquid Facial Soap Mild, Long Last Lipstick in Sugared Maple, Blushwear Cream Stick in Rose Blush and High Impact Mascara in Black). Dreadful! This post is not out of meaness its a reality check for the management there. The store is over all just tired. The retail industry is brutal. It must stay ahead of the curve but not to far ahead. This location is stuck in the bland '80's. I am a Texan I love my Dillards but better yet Neimans (but of course)! I am abhorred by the awful customer service this store provides. When on the phone with customer service, I was referred to the wrong department and then transferred back to customer service and then somehow I ended up in Wells Fargo. I called customer service again just to have them put me on hold for 20 minutes and after all that told me to call the store I bought the merchandise from. I called that customer service and proceeded to have a SCREAMING MATCH with another customer service representative!!!!! It's purely UNPROFESSIONAL and DISRESPECTFUL to a customer. I've shopped at Dillard's for many years but the owners and management seem to have lost touch with what service is about. Based on the lack of management interaction on Yelp is another indication they are missing the mark. I see many positive reviews for the makeup department and it may be because those people are motivated by commission....same for shoes. BUT the disconnected is with every other department. It's nearly impossible to get someone to help you in the dressing rooms or to ring you up. They are busy checking in new merchandise and the staffing levels are abysmal. One girl was working the bottom half of the store alone. She put me in a dressing room near the BCBG department which subleases space from Dillard's and has their own staff. When I asked someone for a different size she said that she worked for BCBG and couldn't help me. At least 7-8 minutes went by before the original girl came to check back and she seemed put out when I asked her to bring me a dress in another size! The reason people still shop in brick and mortar stores is so they can get good service and touch and try on the merchandise! Retailers are loosing customers to online merchants and the way to differentiate themselves is to step up staffing and training. Look at Nordstom's successful model. I noticed deeply discounted racks of merchandise throughout the store and wondered if some of it might have sold at a higher price if the customer's had received attentive service. They do have a nice variety of merchandise to select from. I put myself through college working retail and I can't believe how different service looks today. I hope someone from Dillard's corporate reads this review and takes notice. It's written by a loyal, longtime customer who would like to see them improve. read more

Called to see if they had a certain size dress in stock. When transferred to the women's dress department I asked the sales associate to look on the floor and see if they had the dress I was looking for. I provided her with the name brand and the size. She then asked me if I knew the department number the dress was located in. I explained to her that I was not familiar with Dillard's internal department numbers - she seemed to be annoyed. I explained it was simply in the Women's Dress department online. She was clearly not interested in providing customer service. Dillard's customer service has been spotty lately. read more

I scheduled an appointment for a full face of makeup because I had a special event. Alex did my makeup and he did an outstanding job. He was so passionate and very friendly. I showed him a picture of what I wanted and I got it. My friends thought he did a great job too because I was getting lots of compliments. When someone says your face is "beat for the gawds," you know you're looking good. I will make sure I book my appointment with Alex next time because he had a wonderful spirit and made sure that I turned heads. read more

My friends and I went couch shopping today at the Dillard's in Barton Creek Square Mall to help a friend find a couch for his new place. We had heard from our friend that they had found a decently priced couch at Dillard's sale so we were excited to check it out. We were not in the store for more than five minutes and were testing out our first couch out when we were approached by the manager of the furniture department, Mari Pugh. She immediately asked us, "Where here does it say chat room? This is not a chat room or a lounge." We were all just silent at first because we were confused. At first, we thought she was just making a bad joke. She kept asking. Then she said, "I have had so many of you teenagers come in here and use this as your personal lounge and destroy our furniture. You can't sit here. You are going to wear out the furniture and then I won't be able to sell it." She kept contradicting herself as she also said, "We don't sell floor room furniture." My friend responded, "But we are looking for a couch. We were considering purchasing this couch?" Then she began arguing with him. She said, "No you were not!" She was implying that we did not have enough money to shop at Dillard's. She said, "You can try Macy's" The security guard began laughing and a woman who was mopping the floor said, "Or you could try Rooms to Go." Just to clarify, the three of us are college graduates and the other two friends are currently finishing up college, so for her to refer to us as teenagers was incredibly insulting. We were kicked out of the store because we did not look wealthy enough to shop at Dillard's. I have NEVER been told that I could not test out furniture before purchasing it. How else are you supposed to know if you are going to like a couch before buying it? It did not make any sense. Mari Pugh was incredibly unprofessional and rude to us. If she was afraid that we were loitering, she could have politely inquired about us being there or politely asked us to leave if we were not seriously considering making a purchase but she just assumed the worst. We each agreed that we will not be returning to Dillard's since we have never felt so discriminated against and learned that Dillard's sells cheap furniture which can not withstand four people sitting on at a time. read more

I purchased a Bernhardt dresser and night stands from Dillard's in 2012. This summer two of the bail pull handles suddenly broke. I went on the Bernhardt website to see how to order replacement handles and found out that I needed to contact the retailer. I went in to the store at Barton Creek Mall and found the manager of the furniture department, Mari Pugh. Within a couple of days I sent her the SKU and she sent me a text that the "buyer had located the handles and confirmed the price of $25 each. I texted her that I would like to order 2. Around the second week of September I called her and asked if they had arrived. She said "no, they usually take 3-4 weeks". So I started calling her in October. After MANY phone calls not returned, she finally called me the last week of October and stated that they were not able to get the handles, due to the age of the furniture. Really? Is $4000 worth of furniture "old" at 7 years of age? So, I ask her if it's just my issue to resolve and she said, "yes". DO NOT BUY FURNITURE AT DILLARDS if you ever want customer service. I have tried calling the "store manager" and the extension just rings...never an answer. SO FRUSTRATING!!! read more

Today I was at the mall with my fiance looking at different department stores, trying to decide which one to register with for our wedding. We always liked Dillards, in fact we had purchased a $1,200 couch from them about a year ago. So as we entered Dillards we went to the furniture department to look around. We have been wanting to get a recliner recently, so we entered a room where there were many to choose from and we both sat down in two sepearte chairs. As my fiance was literally saying, "I could afford to buy two of these.." we were approached by a man named Bob Krick, he seemed like he was in a hurry and said, "You are not allowed to lounge in the chairs. My manager is telling me you have to leave and go back out into the mall..." I was stunned because as previously mentioned we had purchased a couch before we were actually told to try out different ones. Mu fiance mentioned to Bob that we had actually purchased a couch here and the guy laughed. As we got up and left I was urging my fiance to go back and get the guys name and his manager's name. I have been working in retail for over 2 years, so I am aware of good and bad customer service. When we went back we asked for his card and he agreed to give it to us, but instead of handing it over he tried to explain himself. "Well a lot of teenagers come and lounge and jump on mattresses..." We quickly told him we were in our 20's and he immediately responded, "Almost teenagers.." We told him how we were looking to register and bought furniture before and again he said, "You? haha.." --like he didn't believe us. I let him know that we were treated very rudely and he tried to explain his "teenager theory" and I told him "This is why you shouldn't make assumptions about people who look young..." Finally I asked for the card once more and his manager's name (Terry) and we left. I don't even know if I want to register here anymore. We weren't even being loud or disruptive or even running around, we were simply browsing--and he was still so quick to kick us out completely. This experience was so frustrating that I don't even think I want to shop here anymore--in any departments, as much as I do love the brands they sell. read more

Wasn't very happy with service at the fragrance counter. Tried to buy a cologne for my husband but couldn't get any service. When someone actually came over to help they weren't much help. We asked about the Vince Camuto cologne because the sign stated that any one of them came with an overnight bag. I thought it was nice. The guy said we had to buy a specific one but the sign said any...well he argued with my husband about it and I just told my husband to give it up. We left empty handed because this guy was rude. I was willing to pay whatever but he treated us like crap so I won't deal with this Dillard's again. read more

Not crazy about the service at the Dillard's Mac Cosmetics counter. There were two women working and the two women they were helping. Okay I get that. I'm patient and can wait my turn. The problem was that while the other one was working with someone trying out makeup, the other one had already checked the customer out but they just stood there chatting away about personal stuff. No acknowledgement that she'd be with me in a moment or anything. Just chatting away ignoring the fact I had been waiting about 10 minutes. Not what I consider good customer service.
