I have eaten at Diego's a number of times over the years and it seems to just get worse and worse which is very disappointing. Today I had the pupusas and could not have been more appalled at what I was served. The menu says fried and yes, pupusas are fried but these were nothing but blackened, hockey pucks of masa. If it hadn't been for the guacamole and pickled salad that came with it it would have been completely flavorless and inedible. With over 1/2 the order left on my plate the server couldn't even be bothered to ask if there had been a problem with the food. In fact we saw the server when our order was taken and then not again until it was time for the bill. A lovely little outdoor patio (dogs allowed; Yelp, why did you take away my dog-friendly filter?). The best spiced calamari I've ever had with a unique caper tartar sauce followed by a creamy pumkpin soup possibly accented with kafir lime. And then a scrumptious crispy fried tilapia topped with guacamole and surrounded by rich, flavorful black beans, fluffy rice and deeply smoky roasted vegetables. Been going to Diego's for years! Wednesday evening we decided to go and, for the first time, we had the worst experience ever. Since the pandemic, the cooks and staff have changed, so has the taste of the food and the customer service skills! The younger servers have great customer service skills, the elderly servers tend to be rude and get an attitude if you ask for the manager! We asked for to go boxes for our food and told our server that our sodas did not taste good, they tasted flat, she said she would check it and take it off our bill. She came back with our boxes and said the sodas were fine, nothing was wrong with them, so she doesn't know what we were talking about. My husband said he was not going to argue with her about it. She got upset and said, well I don't know what you're talking about, but I took it off your bill anyways, but they are not flat. My husband asked to speak to the manager. She said she is the manager. So the one that's being unprofessional, loud, and rude, is the manager, and my husband then asked to speak to the owner, she snatches the to go box from my husband's hand, slams it down on the table, and says attention everyone, this man (my husband), is being rude to me! My husband got up and left at this point. She came up to me, without a mask on and hugged me and told me she would pray for me, making me feel like a victim! I was so embarrassed. People sitting at the other tables were telling me that I didn't have to put up with an asshole, because I am too beautiful of a person! They had no clue what was going on. The manager made my husband look like a terrible person, when he was trying to avoid an argument! We both talked to the owner the next day. She said that she would handle the situation! We all agreed that the manager owes an apology, but the owner says ONLY IF SHE WANTS TO! The manager is the owners cousin! I guess that's why she does not have to wear a mask like all the other employees do and she gets to do what she wants, and treat people how she pleases! read more

We had an all around 5 star experience yesterday .. Stephanie helped us and boy did she wow us from the moment we met!! We had the best meal here on Thursday. The place was pretty quiet when we got there and I was worried that might be a bad sign, but it was completely full by the time we left. A lovely lady named Myra Lynn played guitar and she was shockingly good and had a great vibe - not like the sometimes overbearing music at restaurants. Our server Joe was super enthusiastic and explained the concept behind the restaurant when we said we'd never been there before. He told us how it's Latin inspired but definitely not classic Mexican, with the emphasis placed on high quality ingredients and delicious taste. I got the veggie fajitas with their ridiculous homemade tortillas and husband had the salcedo sandwich with steak on their ridiculous homemade bread. Husband said it was a Top 3 of All Time sandwich, easily. I took half of mine home and devoured it for breakfast the next day - I couldn't wait for my stomach to expand again lol to keep eating! So, all that is true, but I wasn't going to bother writing a review until we went to a different restaurant tonight, had horrible service, terribly seasoned food and spent about $15 more dollars (no booze either) than we had at Diego's. I AM SO SAD we didn't eat there tonight. Why did I think I wanted to go somewhere else? I honestly think the folks at Diego's care a LOT about their customers. I'm sure they have their hit or miss moments like everyone does, but I know I would never be flat-out ignored there or would throw my leftovers in the garbage like I did tonight. So.... Diego's is near our home and we find ourselves going there five or six times a year. The food is always good as is the service. The price is reasonable, especially for the quality of the food. When we've taken vegetarian and vegan friends, they always seem happy with their selection. The desserts are always good and big enough to split. read more

Great South American/Chilean food--and particularly good for vegetarian/vegan options. Stellar veggie sandwich and tofu enchiladas, mostly local and organic vegetables always fresh and cooked just right. Incredible dinner rolls (though not vegetarian, they're made with pork fat so if you're strict you'll have to skip). Friendly and attentive wait staff at this local's favorite, and the owners Diane and June are often on hand to help out with all aspects, including serving. And oddly enough the best Key Lime pie (Diane's recipe) I've had outside of the Florida Keys, in fact it may be the best ever! read more

DISCRIMINATION. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I would not go here if you are any type of minority. I went here with my sister, her wife, and my girlfriend and we were refused service. We waited at our table for nearly an hour while all the other tables around us were served. When we went up to ask for service the owner told us that "it'll be a minute". After that, the table that JUST sat down next to us was served!! This place is amazing! It was our second time there - my family is from out of town and hasn't stopped talking about it since. The decor is eclectic and fun, and even though the place was busy (it was a Saturday dinner) we felt welcome and had excellent service. All of the food was great, from the rolls to start to the delicious cream of mushroom soup (something I usually avoid). We split a panqueque especial (the pineapple just makes it) and had more than plenty. We will definitely be back, and often! read more

I have loved Diego's food for a long time, and the atmosphere, but have one beef to mention. This place is TOO SMALL for live music. I had lunch here recently with 2 friends I have not seen in a long time, and we were anxious to catch up with each other. Unfortunately there was an elderly man playing the keyboards and later an accordion, really loud. He came over to ask if we were having problems talking to each other, and despite saying "yes" he just kept on going. We were practically yelling. He said he was hard of hearing, I guess that was his excuse! If you can't hear your lunch conversation it sure puts a damper on the experience. The waitress apologized and said he was only there one day a week. Still. It was too hot to eat outside. Having said all that..Diego's makes the best fish tacos anywhere, sangria too. If not for the music I would give them 5 stars. 3 is too many but 2 not enough. I guess I'll have to call ahead before going from now on to make sure there is no music for that day. Worst place ever for vegetarians!!!! There is pork lard in the bread rolls and no one tells you that even when you order vegetarian food!!!!!! I assume that there is pork lard in everything?! Great food TERRIBLE SERVER! I had to wait over an hour for my take out order due to the waitress forgetting to actually put my order in the register. In that hour, I watched the server take shots of liquor. I watched over 11 customers come back in with some kind of mistake or error to their orders. I heard her say "some customers are f****** a**holes" and other comments among the servers using vulgar language. She was so busy , she didn't pay attention when I paid and even added a 5 tip. She then accused me of not paying and made me leave my name and phone number in case her "drawer was short" and I didn't pay.She never called of course because I did pay and her drawer was not short. Just a simple mistake I suppose but the customer service is so terrible and the fact that I had to wait over an hour with no apology was outrageous. I really can't believe she was drinking on the job, I'm not sure if it's a regular thing that occurs but the other employees were with her and acted like it was normal to be drinking during work. I didn't grab her name but she wears her hair in a pony tail , dark brown hair and wears dresses usually. Also I tried to call for the next two weeks following to the incident , and couldn't get in communication with a manager or owner. The food was great. But they have a terrible team running that place and don't expect to get ahold of the managers when they goof your order up. read more

First time enjoying the delicious Latin American/ traditional Chile dishes served at Diego's ! What I enjoyed most is that the food isn't thrown together all sloppily but presented beautifully. The choices and spices in each combination really complement each other for a great meal. I had the Ensalada Diego with Steak and Anticucho with Mahi mahi. Perfect combination plates. Large plate sizes allowed my bf and I to split with more than enough food. Anticucho has a selection of rice and beans or mash potatoes and grilled veggies. And not just typical bell peppers and onions...we enjoyed bell pepper of various colors, green and purple onions, green beans...it was the healthiest meal besides the Ensalada Diego. It didn't leave me feeling heavy and gross afterwards. Also the mahi mahi melts in your mouth...just divine. It's a must try. The ensalada Diego is adorned with your choice of meat, lettuce, fresh veggies, guacamole, and honestly I can't recall the rest other than it was incredible. The steak was well seasoned and cooked well done. Delish. No need to get an appetizer, the traditional mini bread rolls come with three dipping choices that are the best mixture of flavors. The green sauce is so fresh and I wish I could pack a bottle with me wherever I go! It would taste great on tacos for sure. Parking on the street in front of the restaurant might be scarce, but we were able to park in the quaint neighborhood behind it. Would come here again next time I'm in the area :)! read more

I was really bummed after reading all the great reviews over our experience. I called in ahead of time and reserved a table for two for my moms birthday,they said they would take great care of us. Upon arriving we were seated at table right next to the walkway to come in when I saw a private table for two available,why we couldn't have been seated there I don't know ..ambiance was cute though so no big deal. Took awhile for us to get water or order. Finally the waitress comes and I tell her how excited I am to try the panqueque especial and I ask her if it's good her unenthusiastic reply of "ya it's good" made me wonder if I ordered the wrong thing ( at a whopping $19.95 I hoped not!) Now I want to say I am willing to put up with pretty bad service if the food is good but other than the bread and dipping sauces our entire meal was bland from the empanadas to my panqueque especial ( which was missing the infamous pineapple , for almost $20 bucks get it right people!) in a last ditch effort for something satisfying we ordered dessert. My mom just wanted to leave but it was her birthday and I was hoping the pie would be good to ending to a bad meal. We order dessert and I kid you not 20 minutes later( yes we started timing it) and it wasn't there . Come on folks it's one slice of pre made key lime pie ! Service had been rude and slow all night, our food was bad our table was bad and we were starting to lose our patience so we asked the bus girl if she could check on our pie.. another ten minutes go by , we ask her again and finally she brings it. That's a total of thirty minutes just to get our single slice of pie! Our waitress finally shows up to check on us and is unapologetic and says what do you want it's busy?Not once did they mention or wish my mom a happy birthday or even acknowledge it was a special day.. I felt so bad for my mom as she was really looking forward to coming here. There are many Latin places that for some reason use one base sauce/salsa on everything, no matter the dish but at Diegos, everything is very thoughtful and intentional. Oh my gosh, what an amazing find! A friend recommended this place and it did not disappoint. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We thought they were still open another hour, but they were actually closing, and they gave us a table anyway and welcomed us inside. The menu had so many options, so hard to choose, but honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with anything you chose. We had the special sea bass, cooked to perfection and served with delicious potatoes and veggies. We also decided to try the taquitos, also super delicious. My husband and daughter split the panqueque especial, which was their crepe special......so huge, even took some home, and again, what a fantastic dish! Salads were delicious too, with yummy dressing. Oh and let's not forget the rolls they started us with, out of this world! Everything was so fresh and well prepared and presented. I found Diego's on Yelp when my husband and I took an overnight trip to Grass Valley and I was searching for someplace to go to lunch. I was intrigued by comments left by other diners, the interesting menu, and the "funky" description given in another review. I love funky places! Diego's did not disappoint! The food was delicious, service was great, the owner was delightful and the decor was funky in a good way. There is a nice, cozy patio that looks inviting, but we opted for an indoor booth because the temperature was just a bit nippy outside. My husband had tacos and coleslaw while I opted for the Favorito sandwich and grilled veggies instead of fries. Everything was yummy and portions were generous. I look forward to dining at Diego's again the next time we are in town. I heartily recommend it! read more
