The search for the world's best fish taco continues. Of all things Diego's only has fish tacos on Thursdays, and we hit it on a Wed. Had the steak sandwich with garlic fries, very very good. They bake all their own breads and they are tasty, especially the donut hole shaped bread with garlic butter. This place has a special decor, very eclectic and fun to just look around the front room and study all the stuff they have collected. Demand the front room as the back room was dark, yet well decorated. Back for the fish tacos some other time. This is one of the best restaurants I've been to (globally!). The food is delicious, the staff is the friendly and fun and the decor is festive! My experience at this place was truly memorable. The moment we pulled up to Diego's I knew this was my kinda place. A hanging Christmas tree in a basket as decor, totally puts a cranky and crabby traveler in better spirits after bumper to bumper traffic on HWY 80 (Truckee to Sonoma). The wait for a table for two at peak dinner time wasn't too bad, maybe 15-20min. We were sat in the cozy corner and had a good view to people watch. How can you not love a place that makes their own bread and serves you herb butter for spread - yum! Our server was SO sweet and helpful in explaining to us how each special was prepared and gave us some wonderful recommendations. For an appetizer we ordered homemade breadcrumbs jalapeno poppers served with some bomb diggity guacamole !! I so badly wanted an empanadita so our server added one to the poppers at no charge so we can have a positive first experience at Diego's. Man, that's what I call CUSTOMER SERVICE ! Also you can a lot about a place by their soups: MUSHROOM soup was amazing, not too creamy, not too much broth, just right and good balance. For drinks the hubby had the electric lemonade with fresh strawberries, I opted for the sangria- which was to my liking. If we didn't have to drive 2 more hrs in the car I would have ordered a pitcher of sangria. Our entrees were really delicious. I had a special dish: two homemade tortilla tacos- grilled talapia fish taco and a steak taco. The man had a pork crepe filled with goodness. Needless to say we were pretty full half way thru the entrees and had to box it for home. Next time when we are in Grass Valley we will for sure come be back and leave room for dessert. After initially passing by Diego's, I wasn't impressed. Fortunately for me, they were only place open at the time (it was about 9:00pm). Once we got the menus though, I knew we were in for a treat. The little bread balls that they served were great, and the dipping sauce and butter they provided was equally amazing. I had the tilapia and the others in my party ordered chicken and pork dishes. Well, we all loved our dishes, and the great service we received locked in a 5 star review. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for some good Latin American food (note that Latin America doesn't mean Mexican food. Diego's serves Chilean food). read more

The food was good, well worth the trip. Tasty and full of flavor. Most of the staff were warm and friendly, except for our waitperson, who seemed to want us done/out as fast as possible. When the bill arrived we discovered entree prices were $2 higher than listed on the menu, which is really not okay. Waitperson seemed nonplussed that we brought up the issue. Out of town Latina, and couldn't have been more disappointed. Ordered Faijtas and they were unrecognizable. Not grilled, not sizzling and no flavor. I choked down as much as I could. Sadly my baby girl ordered grilled cheese and that wasn't recognizable either. I had hoped my guys halibut was better, but the only thing with any flavor was the carrots. So 1 star for edible carrots. Sadly the drinks were no better kids milk never showed, sangria was nothing to write home about and the Pina colada was sour. Very possibly my favourite restaurant in Nevada County. Atmosphere is super quirky and there's something interesting to look at everywhere you train your eye. Food is AMAZING! I ordered the panqueque de especial which is a sort of savory crepe made with chorizo and it was not only delicious but it could have easily fed 2 people. Everyone I was with ordered different dishes and we were all silent as we ate because everything was so delicious. The waitress that was working was ON IT! She was working by herself with maybe 8 tables and she was not only very friendly but also incredibly attentive. I am looking forward to warmer weather when we can enjoy their outside patio. No excuses for public establishments that do not accommodate disabled military persons. We tried to visit Diego's for dinner last night and the hostess was clearly put off by my service dog. He is a groomed and professionally trained, well behaved labradoodle (no shedding). There were a number of empty tables but she wanted to seat us on the patio due to "only having small tables that my dog would not fit under". It was Presidents Day, I guess she was waiting for a number of reservations to show because there were empty tables. I was not going to educate her as to verbiage in the the Americans with Disabilities Act that says nothing about the size of the table (not to mention, my dog is trained to go under my chair if need be) because she mentioned the patio twice. I also was not going to explain to her that my service animal is the only way I can live my life feeling somewhat safe and able to go out into public without fear. I'm rather new to the area and there are PLENTY of what seem to be amazing restaurants to try. We did end up going to Margaritas off Brunswick and it was Delicious! We felt welcome, the service was friendly and timely and I will definitely go back to try other menu options. No on Diego's- Shame on You. read more

Oh so yummy! The atmosphere is a warm, eclectic room design with many touches of creative elements that leave you feeling like home. Our server was very welcoming & informative about the Restaurant's history & the questions we had about the menu. We were seated at 1 of the 3 booths cleverly divided by a headboard, corrugated metal & other parts that I couldn't identify. They also have a another dining room at the back that's filled with even more lanterns than I could count! Friend he Achiote De Pollo & loves the tasty flavors. I had the Bistek A La Pobre cooked to perfection, with Chilean rice, & traded the fries for garlic mash. I sprinkled chopped cilantro on EVERYTHING & behold! Happy-belly achieved! The place had very small area to eat inside but more tables outside. I had the chicken panqueque and my husband had the special panqueque which is spice pork. This is my favorite restaurant in Nevada County!!!! The atmosphere is amazing and eclectic! It feels like you're coming to a person's home when you done there! I really enjoyed all the fun different miss matching cups and plates that they have. Food is fresh, healthy, flavorful, and delicious!!!! Each plate is served with a variety of colors and flavors so you'll never get bored! The pankeke (spelling?) is my favorite! I look forward to every time I get to go there. Diegos has been on my Grass Valley "to try" list for quite a while and I finally had an opportunity to try it out this weekend with some friends. It's so nice to see a restaurant offering a different cuisine outside of the tried and true favorites. The place is tiny, so I'm glad we opted for reservations on a Saturday night. The patio was packed, as to be expected during the summer. Our server was quick to bring waters and those amazing little bread rolls with a cilantro butter and salsa verde. I ordered a red sangria, which is a good serving size and not too much fruit. My entrée was the panqueue with the steak; this is basically a wet burrito but instead of a tortilla, they use a crepe. Inside is stuffed with grilled steak and lots of grilled veggies. The whole thing is topped off with a red sauce, cheese, and guacamole. I didn't notice much of the supposed creamy cheese sauce that was supposed to be inside, but overall this was pretty tasty and I didn't feel like I was eating something super unhealthy. Dinner total for myself was $26, so it's a little spendy, but worth it considering I rarely go out to eat much anymore. Their food was good, they were reasonably priced, easy to work with and eager to meet our requirements / needs. Diego's is amazing! We took an order to go with Shelly helping us over the phone and her recommendations were impeccable. She sold us on the Honey Sriracha Shrimp and it was soooooo yummy!
