Diego Pops is one of my favorite lunch spots in the valley! They have a fun, laidback, and colorful vibe. The space is light and airy. I highly recommend dining on their covered patio. I love their modern and playful twist on Mexican dishes. I've sampled a handful of their offerings and the Brussels sprout nachos and crispy cod tacos are my go-tos. The nachos have street corn queso, queso oaxaca, fresno chili, pickled onion, roasted garlic beet crema, and a fried egg. It's an absolute must! It doesn't just look good, it's freaking delicious and filling! The crispy cod tacos are topped with guacamole, purple cabbage slaw, pickled onion, and chipotle aioli. An excellent combo. You can also get it in a bowl, but I think it's so much better in taco form! I've been here at least three times now and service has always been wonderful. And for the ones that did I had to actually use my fork and put some stuff on them because each time you picked up a chip everything would fall off it- bc there was hardly any cheese. Our go to place for happy hour! The margaritas made Diego's way (spicy) are refreshing and cheap. We normally get the chips and dip and quesadilla to share to go along with the margs. Fun but casual atmosphere. We normally grab a spot at the bar. We sat inside once and it was hotter inside that outside! They now have the patio closed off from the inside for the summer. Went here for a happy hour with the girls and it was super cute inside. We got seated at a large table with half of it being a couch, so that was fun to sit around and chat. Happy hour specials were good, but we had to ask what they were as the QR code leading to the menu did not show the specials. I really enjoyed the house marg, alongside many of the other girls in my party. I'm giving the rating a 4/5 as the server originally told us a large group could have individual checks until the 6th person showed up, making it one big check. We took this as our first round would be on us, and after the other girl showed up, then we'd had to split that check. This was an incorrect assumption and just made paying even more awkward. And once our check was paid for, our server never came back around to pour waters or take the 7th girl's order, who showed up an hour past when we had our reservation because of work. I don't think I'd be back for happy hour with a large group, but maybe in a smaller party so there's less confusion. read more

Bar space needs to be retrained on the basics of hospitality. Order fired a ridiculous amount of food all at once so by the time we made it through our apps our tacos were freezing. Female bartender (I want to say Alex?) was the exception, very nice and welcoming, recommendations for food, on top of drinks, and she did offer to have a new order of food but after having the shitty experience with her colleagues behind the bar (two guys who think far too much of themselves) we were good to leave. We spent maybe 30 minutes in total from being sat and then leaving. We didn't eat 3/5 tacos we ordered because they were freezing by the time we finished the apps. We had asked the bar tender (not Alex) to course it but he could care less. He and the bar back also laughed at the back of house employee when he came out with glassware and mistakenly broke some. Clearly we were upset and displeased with the service and the lack there of a **** given by the male bartender and his bar back but nothing was comped or checked in on. If you're in Scottsdale for drinks at the bar it seems fine, everything is pre batched and prepped so don't expect fireworks but it's good. Maybe for table service there was a better chance we wouldn't have been treated like shit and like we were actually there to spend money and tip these folks. As a Yelp Elite, I've reviewed many restaurants, and have my own definition of "Destination Dining" where it's beyond a ranking, but usually it's *** three stars or greater. I feel okay is good enough and need to differentiate **** four stars and ***** five stars to be fair and balanced to the context of ratings and comparisons. WIth that, this place was okay and good, satisfactory, but not destination dining in my opinion, meaning, I'd not make it a point to visit this as a sole agenda to pursue... but if in the area, or friends wanted to go and come here, I'd have no objections. Diego Pops is located right across the street from our office building which is awesome. I really enjoyed the Aqua Fresca as well as the Brussels sprouts nachos were absolutely fantastic. They have so many different sauces to choose from and I love a good sauce selection. I wasn't a huge fan of the tacos I got so next time I would probably just stick with the nachos . The place was busy on this beautiful Friday night, so we joined the waitlist and walked around the area for about 40 minutes until our table was ready. We all agreed that the nacho toppings needed to be better distributed throughout the chips, which had concentrated areas of cheese and other ingredients, while other chips had none. But if you're looking for untraditional nachos, this is the place to go. We also ordered drinks and one taco apiece. I enjoyed the grilled cod taco, but found no detectable mango flavor in my frozen mango margarita-- it really just tasted like a traditional margarita. The indoor and outdoor atmosphere was fun.
