Katie was our server. She was adorable, bubbly, and friendly (5/5). I asked her any other places she'd recommend for a Sonoran Dog other than this restaurant. She said, "Honestly, I'd never heard of a Sonoran Dog before working here." I like her honesty. LOL. Brussels Sprout Nachos: Street corn queso, queso oaxaca, fresno chili, pickled onion, roasted garlic beet crema, fried egg (4/5). Usually, it's some kind of meat on Nachos. Brussel Sprouts??? This works. Though, I wish they were deep-fried or more blistered to be tender. It worked with this dish. Taco (Al Pastor): spit roasted achiote pork shoulder, grilled pineapple, red onion, cilantro, corn tortilla (4/5). The meat was flavorful and juicy. Tiny chunks of pineapple gave a nice sweetness to each bite. Taco (Charred Skirt Steak): red onion, caramelized onion, cilantro (3/5). Classic, simple, and beefy. Sonoran Hot Dog: Bacon-wrapped all-beef hot dog, pinto beans, grilled onion, mayo, avocado crema, cotija, brioche bun (4/5). What's all this talk about a hot dog? It's just a hotdog, right? Wrong. First bite, and it is a flavor explosion. Creaminess from the pinto beans, mayo, and avocado crema. Texture from the grilled onions. Savory from the cotija cheese and bacon wrapped hotdog. Okay, it is unfortunate this place doesn't take reservations so beware because it can get very busy on the weekends! And for good reason... this happy hour is by far the best deal. Half off on appetizers, insane. I LOVE their Brussel sprout nachos, which comes out to only $7 for happy hour and it's massive. I mean massive, maybe even too much for two people. Sometimes nachos have too many bare chips, not these nachos! Great amounts of cheese, corn, Brussels, etc etc, topped with a massive egg. Best part is you get a thing of six sauces, and they're all pretty colors! Theres a verde one, a mayo base one, a pink one (great descriptions I know), varying from not spicy to spicy. I got a bowl for the first time, the cod one with brown rice and creamy beans (blended beans with cheese). It was just okay! Definitely needed the extra sauces. Good portion size though. I think it would be better if I didn't mix everything together beforehand. The drinks are also so good, the sangria is tasty and they can modify their margs with vodka! So fresh and tasty. On my last night in Scottsdale, I grabbed dinner here and ordered the popular Brussel sprouts nachos and tacos. The nachos were not flavorful at all and all the sauces they provided didn't help either. I wish the nachos had some beans or protein on them. I came with a group of maybe 10+ people and not only did the workers do a phenomenal job with us, I saw that there were SEVERAL large parties at the same time! Note: this place is NOT somewhere to go if you're aiming for intimate, formal meet-ups, etc. It's very loud (not in a bad way), good for parties, celebrations, etc. I forgot the server name but she did an amazing job handling our party from when to bring out the drinks, getting our orders, answering our questions, etc. She was extremely knowledgeable and allowed us to make modifications/adjust our pre-set menu to how we wanted it. Food came out SO QUICKLY (and everyone's dishes were correct/none had to get sent back!) Portion sizes are good. Lots of variety with the tacos, salads, bowls that it can really suit anyone. I thought the plantain tacos sounded weird but somehow it works. I got the Brussels sprouts tacos and skirt steak (100% recommend). The meat is a little dry but the sauce/condiments make up for it. Thanks to some recommendations I found on Eat Gluten Free AZ on Instagram, we stopped at Diego Pops near our hotel in Old Town Scottsdale for happy hour where all apps and margaritas are half off. They have a marked gluten free menu which is important to me as a Celiac. I was told that their fryer is dedicated but flour tortillas are stored near it, so to avoid potential cross contamination, avoid the fried foods. After being put on a 15 minute wait list, we were seated outside. The weather was fantastic so it was very comfortable in the outdoor dining area next to the bar. On the table are 6 different sauces. Try them all - my favs were the pink one and the light green serrano one. We got a frozen house blue raspberry margarita, 2 Diego (house) margaritas, a cheese quesadilla (not GF, but my husband loved it), elote (great), a bowl of tortilla soup (12/10 it was delicious), a corn cheese dip (fine) with tortillas rather than chips to avoid potential gluten cross contamination, and a pineapple pork bowl with coconut rice (not a fan.) Between ordering our drinks and when our food came out, it was like maybe 40 minutes. We didn't mind because the weather was good and we were chatting and had our drinks, but our waitress kept updating us that she was on the kitchen to bring out our stuff. We were like, "it's fine." She came out 2 more times and said the kitchen had lost our ticket. Whatever, we were in no rush. Stuff happens. She was super apologetic even though we didn't complain and the manager came over and gave us vouchers for 6 free tacos and comped our entire meal!!! We told them it wasn't necessary and we could pay but the waitress said it was thanks for being so nice and understanding. That made me feel sad that they clearly deal with a lot of rude, unreasonable people. It wasn't necessary to comp our meal or give us free taco vouchers. We did tip her in cash an amount that would have been 1/3 of the original bill. Please don't go expecting free food but if you're in Scottsdale, please go check out the food at Diego Pops and get the tortilla soup for sure. read more
