Katie was our server. She was adorable, bubbly, and friendly (5/5). I asked her any other places she'd recommend for a Sonoran Dog other than this restaurant. She said, "Honestly, I'd never heard of a Sonoran Dog before working here." I like her honesty. LOL. Brussels Sprout Nachos: Street corn queso, queso oaxaca, fresno chili, pickled onion, roasted garlic beet crema, fried egg (4/5). Usually, it's some kind of meat on Nachos. Brussel Sprouts??? This works. Though, I wish they were deep-fried or more blistered to be tender. It worked with this dish. Taco (Al Pastor): spit roasted achiote pork shoulder, grilled pineapple, red onion, cilantro, corn tortilla (4/5). The meat was flavorful and juicy. Tiny chunks of pineapple gave a nice sweetness to each bite. Taco (Charred Skirt Steak): red onion, caramelized onion, cilantro (3/5). Classic, simple, and beefy. Sonoran Hot Dog: Bacon-wrapped all-beef hot dog, pinto beans, grilled onion, mayo, avocado crema, cotija, brioche bun (4/5). What's all this talk about a hot dog? It's just a hotdog, right? Wrong. First bite, and it is a flavor explosion. Creaminess from the pinto beans, mayo, and avocado crema. Texture from the grilled onions. Savory from the cotija cheese and bacon wrapped hotdog. Since I am an out-of-towner, I was craving authentic Mexican and this just wasn't it. That being said, the corn queso dip was out of this world, and using plantain chips was different for me, but a good-different; can't wait to recreate that option at home. I came with a group of maybe 10+ people and not only did the workers do a phenomenal job with us, I saw that there were SEVERAL large parties at the same time! Note: this place is NOT somewhere to go if you're aiming for intimate, formal meet-ups, etc. It's very loud (not in a bad way), good for parties, celebrations, etc. I forgot the server name but she did an amazing job handling our party from when to bring out the drinks, getting our orders, answering our questions, etc. She was extremely knowledgeable and allowed us to make modifications/adjust our pre-set menu to how we wanted it. Food came out SO QUICKLY (and everyone's dishes were correct/none had to get sent back!) Portion sizes are good. Lots of variety with the tacos, salads, bowls that it can really suit anyone. I thought the plantain tacos sounded weird but somehow it works. I got the Brussels sprouts tacos and skirt steak (100% recommend). The meat is a little dry but the sauce/condiments make up for it. Overall this place was average compared to the hype. It's very cute ambience in there and good for big groups. But the drinks were watered down for it being $13. Their tacos were just overfilled and bland with slaw. Plus their queso dip was bland but the chips were good. I probably wouldn't come back. Positive side is that service was quick. read more

According to the Yelp wait time estimate, there would only be a 5-min wait at our arrival time; however, when we arrived, we were informed that it was an estimated 45 min wait for a party of 2. We ordered two drinks: prickly pear marg & tropic like it's hot. Both were prepared well and tasted great. We ordered the Brussels sprout nachos to start, which come loaded with Brussels, cheeses, corn, and a fried egg on top. Definitely worth getting for the table! The nachos were delivered super quickly and had been on our table for about 2 minutes when our mains were brought out. It was a lot of food at once! I spend over $800 at a bachelorette with 16 girls at Diego pops. I ubered early for pick up & picked up what I thought to be my order. We came home, unpacked everything and realized 2 gallons of margs were missing. I then ubered back ($50) to get my margs. When I showed up the establishment they had to MAKE THEM. It wasn't like they were sitting there waiting like an honest mistake. Because of this we asked for a discount after having to uber twice & ask for what we paid for. I even gave an extra $50 tip. Spoke to someone and asked for a discount since they made a mistake, they said at the restaurant we would get reimbursed for the margs & we had to travel back. When I got home I got a $40 discount. The gallon marg was $90 EACH. So a total of $180 + the extra uber to go back and get them. We contacted the restaurant and asked for an additional discount for the cost (quite frankly they should of reimbursed for both after they made a mistake) the manager of the establishment haggled me first asking what exactly was missing and the cost. (As if he couldn't look it up on his end) then said the best he could do was $100 in total (so only $60 more). it not only was it a waste of time, but money for the uber back was $50. I am a pharma rep and cater 4/5 meals weekly for 10+ people. Some times up to 40 people. I HAVE NEVER SPENT MORE than $500 for lunch for an office. This place not only price gauges, but they don't know how to admit when wrong and do right. Why did I travel back and they weren't already made? Why did I have to call back for a discount? Why was I haggled? SPEND YOUR MONEY AT A TRUE MOM & POP restaurant. This food was okay, not worth $800 + all your time and efforts. Never again. Do better Diego pops. read more

Thanks to some recommendations I found on Eat Gluten Free AZ on Instagram, we stopped at Diego Pops near our hotel in Old Town Scottsdale for happy hour where all apps and margaritas are half off. They have a marked gluten free menu which is important to me as a Celiac. I was told that their fryer is dedicated but flour tortillas are stored near it, so to avoid potential cross contamination, avoid the fried foods. After being put on a 15 minute wait list, we were seated outside. The weather was fantastic so it was very comfortable in the outdoor dining area next to the bar. On the table are 6 different sauces. Try them all - my favs were the pink one and the light green serrano one. We got a frozen house blue raspberry margarita, 2 Diego (house) margaritas, a cheese quesadilla (not GF, but my husband loved it), elote (great), a bowl of tortilla soup (12/10 it was delicious), a corn cheese dip (fine) with tortillas rather than chips to avoid potential gluten cross contamination, and a pineapple pork bowl with coconut rice (not a fan.) Between ordering our drinks and when our food came out, it was like maybe 40 minutes. We didn't mind because the weather was good and we were chatting and had our drinks, but our waitress kept updating us that she was on the kitchen to bring out our stuff. We were like, "it's fine." She came out 2 more times and said the kitchen had lost our ticket. Whatever, we were in no rush. Stuff happens. She was super apologetic even though we didn't complain and the manager came over and gave us vouchers for 6 free tacos and comped our entire meal!!! We told them it wasn't necessary and we could pay but the waitress said it was thanks for being so nice and understanding. That made me feel sad that they clearly deal with a lot of rude, unreasonable people. It wasn't necessary to comp our meal or give us free taco vouchers. We did tip her in cash an amount that would have been 1/3 of the original bill. Please don't go expecting free food but if you're in Scottsdale, please go check out the food at Diego Pops and get the tortilla soup for sure. read more

Extremely disappointing experience. Preface: We made a reservation for 15 people for happy hour. Only 10 of us ended up showing, which was fine because the online reservation clearly stated a $30/person minimum spend, totaling $450, paid on one bill. No issue there, we understood the policy. When the waitress brought the bill, we were $150 short of the minimum. We closed out immediately with no argument. Here's where it went sideways: after closing out, I asked if the remaining $150 would be applied as a credit toward additional drinks or food. The waitress said the tab was already closed and we'd have to start an entirely new tab, meaning the extra $150 minimum spend was basically forfeited. That makes absolutely no sense. If there's a minimum spend tied to a reservation, common sense (and basic customer service) would dictate that the remaining amount can be used and not taken as a penalty with zero benefit to the customer. The lack of clarity, flexibility, or effort to make it right completely killed the experience. Policies are one thing, but how you handle them matters and this was handled extremely poorly Food was decent, not worth the hassle. Won't be doing group reservations here again read more

Love this place so much! Everything I've tried is amazing! The menu is so creative and delicious! The drinks are also great and they have a huge selection of tequila. Service is kind of inconsistent but they are usually pretty busy so it makes sense that some times there's a wait for food and drinks. We got a pitcher of the Tropic Like It's Hot frozen margarita which was delicious and tasted like a piña colada. We shared the brussels sprout nachos, grilled street corn and street corn queso. This spot is in a great location and is a cute little spot. We went with a group of 9, for dinner the week after Christmas. The food was ok not great but not horrible. The staff was not really present so I am not going to judge them and it was packed. I do have one note, if you go in a large group they will only split the bill and not take separate orders. We ordered the Chips and Guacamole which was pretty good and the addition of plantain chips was nice. I had a crispy shrimp and a charred flank steak taco. The shrimp was not bade but I did not feel the crispiness of them and they were covered in cabbage(not my thing). The steak taco was just not good, the meat was dry and not very flavorful.
