Dick's is a must try if you're visiting the area. It's the next best thing to In-N-Out, in my opinion. The deluxe burger is very good. It's a double cheeseburger with lettuce, mayo & pickled relish. You would think a burger that simple wouldn't taste so good, but it actually is! About $5 for a deluxe burger & fries, ooh laawd that's a steal! Anytime I want a fast option, I go to Dicks. Food here are cheap and you get what you pay for. It is not the restaurant quality, this is affordable fast food. My favorite is their skin-on french fries and deluxe burger. The burger sauce is rich and flavorful. Most of the time there are lines but they are fast. We usually enjoy the burgers from here but today they weren't up to the standards we are used to. First the prices have been raised significantly since we were there just a couple months ago. Spent at least $3 more dollars total for just two people. We got Deluxe Burgers and the patties were so tiny! They had a weird texture and taste, but the worst part is in one of my patties there was something hard. I had to spit it out. My husband and thinks it was gristle but I'm not sure. If I could have Dick's every single day, I would! Completely satisfying every time I experience Dick's. I have been coming to Dick's from a young age and I cannot appreciate Dick's more than I do. Thank goodness I am local to the metro area and there is always a Dick's near me when I need to fulfill my craving for our city's best establishment. Never once have I had a poor experience with any of the other Dick's locations and their service. Also, I deeply appreciate how clean every Dick's is and how hard every employee is always working at Dick's. It is probably the cleanest establishment across the board for competition. Nothing compares to a great late night date or a quick lunch with Dick's. I highly recommend all of the local Dick's to everyone as the consistency is impeccable. Thank you! Nothing is as good as a Dick's Special.. The special sauce is so good.. (just tarter?) the bun has that yummy sweet bun taste.. Fries perfectly salty with a side of tarter sauce.. Growing up in Edmonds I rarely got to get a Dick's in Seattle (we would go to the late Happy Burger in Edmonds which was great). Drove by Dick's and my brother told me it was the In-&-Out of Seattle. So agreed to give it a chance. Not a huge burger fan to begin with but wanted to try it out. I do feel like I missed out on these scoops of ice cream and ice cream flavors... Next time, but I digress.... Ok so first thing I noticed was how inexpensive it was. Literally $2-3 for a burger! You can't really do substitutions but you do get $.50 add-ons like onions. For 4 people it was less than $20!! I haven't seen prices like this since McDonald's circa 1995! It IS a ca$h only place but there is an ATM so they got it all covered for you. There is no seating, and it's got a really classic feel to it. The burger itself was delicious. The fries are soggy, so if you dig that kind of texture for your fries than you will like this. It's not a bad place for fast food and I am actually craving some Dick's right now! I order from Dicks on a regular basis, but today was the last day. I got a sundae as I do every time I go nearly and this time they scooped almost nothing out (and they are supposed to be weighing it) when I asked for more ice cream the girl went off and I assume talked to the manager, then she comes back and says if I want more I have to pay for it. Well I want the amount that I am already overpaying for it ($3 for a scoop of ice cream and I get half a scoop? Hell no) So I tell her that I want the amount that I get every other time that I order this and she goes back over and comes back a few minutes later and same thing. So now not only do I have a tiny scoop of ice cream that cost them maybe 10 cents, I paid $3 for it and I could have gotten 3x the amount of ice cream but my ice cream is also melted now. Never going to dicks again - if you plan on going there, do not buy their sundae its a huge waste of money. Just get a milkshake, or better yet drive around the corner and get McDonalds you get higher quality food for a lot less (and Dicks is just a cheap imitation of McDonalds anyways, they try to keep it "all the same" and consistent and yet can't do it right, their scoops are tiny to begin with and they can't even weigh it right). read more

I'm amending my review. Partly--well mostly--because I now have a better appreciation for the role Dick's Drive-In plays in our local culture. The hamburgers are decent. They are good. I admit. It still bugs me a bit that no customization is possible. But being really fresh with simple ingredients that shine makes them a cut above the factory made hamburgers from the huge fast food places. But let me say that the company itself having a reputation for giving back and treating its employees well. There are SO MANY places that don't do that. So it makes me feel good that when I order up a bunch of their food I am trying to contribute to that sort of business culture. So kudos for that. In fact a big kudos for that. Since returning I have been back a number of times. I have not had the opportunity to try a few things I never had before. Like their milkshakes. Those are REALLY good. It tastes like milk and ice cream and chocolate. Not just sweetened milk product I know was manufactured somewhere else. And the maple nut ice cream. Holy crap, how did I miss that before? That is a must have item when we go now. I still can't stand the french fries, but I am worldly enough to know that this is just my opinion and for lack of a better characterization a "stylistic choice" on their part. My husband and I are visiting from out of state. We've never been here before and thought we should give it a go. We both ordered the deluxe burger and I had requested mine to be without pickles. The girl that was waiting on us, Allison B, rudely stated that they cannot change what comes on the burger. We thought that was super strange... fine, I will just pick off the chopped pickles I guess. We also got fries and sprites. We pay and as we are finishing our transaction, Allison B pushes food toward us. I see two dark sodas with this food order so I say that's not my order. She rudely states that it is and I had to correct her because our order was to come with Sprites. Allison B rips the sodas out of the little box carrier and chucks them in the trash. Didn't apologize for the mishap or anything. She definitely did not want to be working that night and pretty much ruined our experience at this restaurant on top of the obvious, food that sits out until someone orders it, that's why you can request to take items on or off. She had grabbed burgers that had been sitting there before we even ordered. The lettuce was super soggy, and the fries were limp and flat. We will never come back to this place. read more

I'm a VEGETARIAN, yet they REFUSE to make me a salad! I mean, they have the ingredients back there...not rocket science people!! Or maybe just lazy?? And MY CHILD is allergic to mustard, but they won't take it off! They pointed out that half of the burgers don't come with mustard, but they have relish and Junior didn't want relish. So I had to just get him fries w/ extra tartar sauce. How long could it take to just make everyone's order especially how they want it? (Or just mine?) And the lines are so long. I waited 20 minutes to get to the window, and when I got there the employee kind of rushed me...Rude! This upset me because I am unhappy about some things in my life, and i wanted to dump my frustrations onto someone half my age who is paid to be nice to me. I asked to speak to the manager. Despite throwing a small hissy fit, they would only let me order what was on the menu. They don't even care that arguing with me is making people wait in line even longer...Selfish! NOT as good as IN N OUT people! Im pretty picky about my fast food. Thats why I'm having my wedding in Cali, so they can cater. After 37 years Dick's Drive-In finally opened up another location, this time closer for those northern end folks. The new location is very easy to find. Located right on hwy 99 right next to Top Foods and across from the Red Dragon Casino. Opening day the wait was almost 2 hours long! Since it just opened you can expect to wait maybe 20-30 minutes. For those people new to Dick's you can expect to get really good quick burgers, fries, and milk shakes for a fairly cheap price. Besides the great location, there is a huge parking lot, bathroom, and even a ATM machine if you forget to bring cash since Dick's only accepts payments in cash. read more

Fresh tasting, decent in size and very tasty! The fries were soggy and disappointing. Dicks has a great thing going, but they really need to improve upon their awful fries :( I will return to this location again, but will avoid the fries, which really is a good thing because that means I will have extra money for another cheeseburger ;) Service is friendly, personable and quick! Super fast and fresh! Drove by a few days ago and line was around the building, so cruised by again and it was tolerable. Cash only, for $9 we each are and were full! We had ordered, paid and had our food within about 3 min. Crazy fast so we weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised to find it was actually really good! Tho I wish I had some vinegar for my fries, they were a little soggy for my liking, but they were fresh spuds! Def stop here on your way by and don't be afraid of the line. I guess when one is in Seattle, Dick's is the place to go for a nostalgic burger and fries. The menu is kept simple, just like with the times. A Dick's deluxe is a double cheeseburger with pickles. Everything else added on is extra including a nickel for ketchup, mustard, or tartar sauce. Seating is limited to your car or on the order counter. The burger buns were soggy, as were the fries. Some prefer it that way, but I prefer mine a little toasted and crispy. While many ordered the milkshake, I stuck with the maple nut ice cream sundae, which was delicious. In the end, the cost for a double cheeseburger, fries, and a drink was about the same if it had been at In-N-Out ($6-7). I will admit that their service is much faster. Dick's Drive-In remains a Seattle classic and I can understand the local appeal, but don't expect the best burger ever. read more

I went to Dick's yesterday around 1;15 PM. Not busy. Service was fast. Ordered a cheeseburger and a Dick's special and two fries. Fries were okay. Normal Dick's frys. The burgers were cold and not up to standard. I'm not sure if Dick's have a holding time on food but these burgers were past their prime. I am a Dick's fan but today the food wasn't great. To completely understand this place, you got to know what to order by the time you get to the window. There will be long lines, but you say "a deluxe, fries, and a shake" and they get you. It's like rapid fire. Dicks will always be a part of the Seattle culture. Their burgers, fries, just everything about them makes them unique, and if they were to change anything, they would lose that spunk they have been carrying for so long. I've hesitated to do this review for quite some time. Dick's is a good company, they take care of their employees above and beyond what other fast food joints do. I don't want to give them a one star but this is a review of their product so I have to. I just spent a week in Ventura California and In-n-Out became my late night snack. People compare Dick's Burgers to In-n-Out a lot - enough so that if you ask about Dick's Burgers there's a pretty good chance In-n-Out will actually be mentioned in the description - "it's like In-n-Out". Newsflash, Dick's is NOT like In-n-Out! Yes, it's an old time burger joint, yes they only have a certain number of items on the menu and yes those items consist of only burgers, fries and shakes. That's about where the comparison ends. In-n-Out doesn't make fancy burgers but the meat is of good quality, the cheese is decent and the lettuce, tomato and onions are all fresh. Dick's has this mass produced feel to it - all burgers are exactly the same, no you can't substitute and yes you can pick things off if you don't like them. When I take a bite of a McDonalds cheeseburger I get about three bites in and start having a gag reflex. I think it's the mouse colored meat or maybe it's the nasty processed cheese. Dick's does this too. It doesn't matter if you order the Dick's Deluxe with everything on it (everything being just a couple of things) or a lowly cheeseburger - it still happens. About 30 minutes after muscling past the gag reflex I get this ill feeling... just like McDonalds. Some things like a gallon of ice cream taste good up front and then you regret eating them later when you're laying on your side and you feel like you're going to explode. Dick's doesn't even give you that immediate satisfaction. It's a fairly bad experience from start to finish. Ah but the fries you say? I remembered the fries as being these sloppy greasy things that although horrible for you tasted great. So I ordered fries and was fairly surprised that my memory didn't server me right - they were pretty standard fries but you only got a couple ounces of them and they cost almost $2.00. Five Guys is about double the price of Dick's but you get 3x as much food and it tastes much much better. Dick's costs more than In-n-Out and is barely edible. I don't get it. There's ONE place that Dick's is better than In-n-Out - shakes. Not that they're great but In-n-Out shakes are strangely not cold and lacking in flavor. Dick's shakes aren't horrible... The reason I've held off on reviewing Dick's is they're a great company. They're family owned, they give their employees 100% paid health care and 75% dental care for anyone working more than 24 hrs a week. They give up to $25,000 in education reimbursement spread over 4 years for anyone working part time! They give up to $9,000 per year in child care assistance. They pay $11/hr in Lynnwood and $13/hr in Seattle. Shift managers make almost $20/hr. All of this is absolutely unheard of in a fast food company! Why, why, why can't they make decent food? It wouldn't be that hard, just use better quality cheese and meat, put fresh veggies on each, charge the same. It's not rocket science. I want so much to give these guys an amazing review but if they're a restaurant and you can't muscle your way through eating their food than why do they exist? Sorry Seattle, it pains me to say this but Dick's isn't In-n-Out nor is it even good. read more

So we had to go check out all the hub bub about Dicks burgers. Other than their french fries being limp and oily, we really liked the burgers. They are similar to the best McDonalds burger you have ever had only better. Staff and service are tremendous. There is no comparison to In-n-Out burgers in Cali which are truly the king of burgers but nice for something different. read more
