Sorry, but Dickie Don't. Maybe this is the flavor choice for others, but not for me. First, the state on their website that they are Alamance's only "True Que" restaurant,wgich may be true, but when we ordered, the food was.... meh. I mean it was edible, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Smithfield is better in my opinion. I guess it is a question of taste preference. Service was fine, and everyone was nice. Food is always top notch. Staff provide a customized customer experience each time. I actually think the food is better because the staff is so great. Small town feel. I will say the staff was very sweet and friendly. The lady that took our order was very patient and helpful as I wanted to purchase some merchandise. The food unfortunately was not as awesome as I'd hope it would be. The fries were really cold and didn't taste fresh at all. It wasn't crispy or salted so that was quite disappointing, the hushpuppies were alright, were fried well and were filling. The beans were decent, had a nice sweetness to it, the brisket was slightly tough. The sauce we dipped it in def made it better and softer but had expected more. I got the same 2 meats combo but this time I added an extra side...the collard greens. I took one bite of them collards and I damn near cried. I have everyone at the table try it and immediately got up to buy a large! Listen them thangs was so good I could've slapped my mama! The cook had to be a grandma from Atlanta or something! The brisket is so tender it melts! The ribs are finger licking good! It's a vegans nightmare. Actually I was plant- based (only for 2 weeks) when my friend brought me here. All I buy from this restaurant is the pulled barbecue for our family events. It is really tasty and they give us a generous amount of sauce to pour over the barbecue. The staff is very friendly and the inside of the restaurant is clean. Our orders have always been cooked in a timely manner. The Brunswick stew is amazing and we love to eat it. Be sure to try out the Brunswick stew. This is a locally owned company and not a corporate company like Smithfield or some of the others. read more

Dickie-Do's isn't far off the interstate so we decided to stop on our cross-country trip with our four small children. Photos online showed plates with mac & cheese but it appears that the sides change daily (they were written on a small chalk board) and mac was not an option. We chose to get fries, hush puppies, green beans, and corn bread to accompany our four-meat plate of chicken, brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. There is a condiment station with three different types of BBQ sauce. The house-made BBQ sauce was very thin and tangy. It was great on the pulled pork. There was a pitcher of water that was about 1/4 full. With six of us, the water was gone pretty quickly so I took the pitcher to the counter to ask for a refill. The woman working the counter took the empty pitcher and put it back at the condiment station, telling me to refill our cups at the soda fountain. I attempted this, but the water barely trickled out of the fountain. I don't understand what would have been so hard about filling the pitcher... it certainly would've worked better for us. The food was all delicious, and surprisingly we all liked the chicken the best. It was moist and full of flavor. We loved it so much that we bought some of the spice rub to bring home with us. The rest of the meats were all great too, but if I went back I would probably only order the chicken. My kids loved the sweet cornbread so much that we ordered two extra pieces. This is yet another recently opened barbecue restaurant in the Burlington/Mebane area - this one opened in April of this year. And like the others (Stokely's & Tickle My Ribs) this little place serves a variety of smoked meats - pork, ribs, chicken, and beef brisket - none of which are traditional NC BBQ offerings, but there is some flavor here. You order at the front, pay, and grab a table - the decor is rustic, retro with signs and posters on the walls, feed bags, etc. There are about 6 or 8 booths, and some outside seating. All the food is served in a to go style - styrofoam containers, plastic forks & spoons, sandwiches wrapped in tin foil, and soft drinks in a can - so only the bare basics offered. Brisket Combo goes for $9.99 (a little high, I think for what you get) - which is basically a brisket sandwich on texas toast with 2 sides. All meat is cooked in a smoker, and there is some taste of smoke, but only a little. The brisket is well cooked - tender but not mushy, with areas of outside black. The meat, well sauced with the house stuff, is pretty good. The sides are not - I'd just get the brisket sandwich. The house sauce is more Lexington style than eastern, some nice flavor, but no heat at all. The pork is rather coarsely chopped, tender, and moist. It also has some hint of smoke, and goes pretty well on a sandwich with slaw, and a good dose of house sauce and the commercial hot sauce - Texas Pete. You get 4 ounces of pork on the sandwich for $4.49 - also a little high for what you get. Hot Dog was just ordinary - small in size (like Zack's in Burlington), the bun seemed like a potato style bun, the chili tastes commercially made, and the onions were of the red variety - just ain't right - goes for $1.99 - also high for the item. Canned drinks were rather a bargain at $1. I'll stop by again at some point - more of a point of opportunity BBQ joint, rather than a destination one, and not really a value meal place. Our Beef Brisket Combo, a chopped sandwich, a dog, & 2 soft drinks was just short of $20. read more

One of the better BBQ joints in the area. This is a free standing restaurant in Haw River. It boasts "the best BBQ in town". This may be true, but if I'm mistaken, it's the only BBQ in town! Its a decent looking place. Not much from the outside. Just a brick rectangle with a small patio out front. Once you get inside its a bright with pig related decor adorning the walls. Pretty traditional. Everything is nice and clean. The restaurant is small but you don't feel cramped. My wife and I dined here for lunch on a busy Friday. We both had a BBQ sandwich with fried okra. The pork on the sandwich was pulled very coarsely which I enjoy. The smoke profile was nice. Assertive. If you don't like smoke you'll want to balance it with BBQ sauce. The meat was just a tad on the dry side. The okra was good. Better than average. It could have been crispier though and came out all but unseasoned. I believe they should ditch the Sweet Baby rays they offer and make their own version. As good as the food is they should compliment it with something home made. They do make a "meet in the middle" tomato/vinegar based BBQ sauce which is made in house and quite good. All and all I do recommend giving them a try. Just went to order lunch and after an extremely rude customer service encountered just ordering our meal we left because of the rude way we were treated. She obviously didn't want customers to bother her ordering a meal so she could apparently be free to sit around. We could definitely see why there was only one table occupied in the whole restaurant. Rudeness like that for absolutely no reason goes a long way. Will not be returning. If customer service is important than I would advise not to bother her by ordering your meal. There was no taste of smoke and was just cooked pork at the end of the day. Whomp womp... 2/5 The ribs were spectacular from the first bite to the last! The only downside that my family and I agreed on was that the meat was not fall off the bone tender and had to make a bit of effort to get all the meat off. 4/5 The brisket was tasty but tougher than most briskets we've ever eaten. Good if you have tough teeth. Bad if not or really elderly. 4/5 Overall, I'd say our experience here was good. Excellent customer service (my cup never got empty!), nice decor, and good food. But today I make an exception. Today I stopped at Dickie-do's BBQ in Haw River, North Carolina. Just go there. If my experience is anything at all like their standard fare, then just go there. Get the combination plate pulled pork and brisket. Now I know you BBQ purists will scowl at the notion of brisket on a North Carolina barbecue plate. Normally I would share in that opinion. But the nice lady behind the counter encouraged me to try the brisket - so I did. It was the most tender, most flavorful, and most perfectly smoked brisket I have ever ever had. The pulled pork was equally good and the white slaw was the perfect accompaniment. Cornbread. Sweet tea. Yummy. One big surprise was the "meet in the middle" sauce - which seemed to be an excellent blend of many of the diverse North Carolina BBQ sauce offerings. The white slaw was equally delicious, and featured what for me is a MUST (but all-too-rare) slaw seasoning: celery seed. The mac n cheese was creamy and delicious, and the hushpuppies were great. The sweet tea was very good. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the baked beans--they lacked pizazz. But wait! What about the bbq? You haven't addressed the bbq!! Oh yeah, that. Super cute little hole-in-the-wall type spot that we're glad we stopped at! We saw a sign on 40 and thought we'd veer off for some late lunch. I had brisket, collards, fried okra, & cornbread. Fiancé had pulled pork, mac & cheese, green beans, hush puppies, and bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers, and we both had sweet tea - of course! EVERYTHING was delicious! Had multiple people tell me that I needed to check out Dickie Do's barbecue, because it was sooooo good. They were pretty much right. The building is not much to look at, but don't let that slow you down from going inside......that is often where you find the best eats. Went with a party of four for a Saturday lunch. Not a large place, only about 6 booths. Order from the counter. Four meats to choose from; pork, ribs, chicken and brisket. Table had pork, chicken and brisket. All had that smokey flavor you expect and the taste was good. Four different sauces to choose from. I enjoyed the one designated for brisket. Two others had a bit more heat and the fourth was more or less just a straight out hot sauce. Number of slides to choose from as well. We tried the mac and cheese, barbecue beans, white coleslaw, ranch potatoes, and hush puppies. Mac is good as well as the white coleslaw, beans are sweet and come with pieces of meat in them. Ranch potatoes were not really enjoyed by one of our table mates. Hush puppies are acceptable. Owner is very friendly and came out and chatted with us. He also caters.
