With barbecue snobbery so rampant around here (it's very much evident on local social media sites) it can be hard to approach a chain like Dickey's objectively. But, I'm no elitist and my positive past experiences here as well as other locations have earned them my repeat business. However, I hadn't been in quite a while and I had never dined in at this particular restaurant, so my family and I decided to have dinner here on a quiet Sunday evening. The free kids meal deal certainly helped in making that decision. Among the 4 of us we got a good variety of the meat they offer, including the sausage, brisket, turkey, and pulled pork. We all agreed that everything seemed to lack the requisite smoky flavor that barbecue is known for. Like, I could have gotten a smoked sausage from the grocery store and fried it up in a pan and the end result would have been the same. It's not that it wouldn't taste good, but it wouldn't be considered barbecue. The sides ranged from delicious, such as the loaded baked potato casserole, to average, like the mac and cheese, to inedible, being the cucumber and tomato salad. The 3 sauces available I would describe as slightly too sweet, way too sweet and sugar overload. Speaking of sweet, they also offer free soft serve ice cream for dessert. Now this was the one thing that got zero complaints from us! As previously stated, kids eat free on Sundays, which was one of the reasons we chose to eat here. Our cashier even enthusiastically reminded me as I was paying. But, once I sat down I noticed that I was charged for the kids meal. As soon as I took the receipt back and pointed it out to the cashier he did refund the money. Went to the men's room and it was filthy. The walls were covered in something unclean, the floors as well. The privacy partitions were in disrepair and coming off the walls. The dining room was dark and the tables were "sticky". The Dickey's Group should close this store and complete a total remodel. We went in to this Dickey's at 4:45 pm and ordered a take out including ribs, pulled pork sandwich, a few sides and rolls. Must be a wrong time... Apparently, the pulled pork sandwich was made at lunch time. The bun top was all wrinkled and the bottom was harder than a rock. The meat was cold. The rolls were stale and hard.The ribs looked dry. The only thing that was worth consuming were the fries which were fried while I waited. Needless to say I would never go back. I am surprised the place has not been closed by the health department. Sides were Mac n cheese and onion "tanglers". What I got was one three inch rib and the tail end piece, which was all bone and cartilage and should have be discarded. The sausage was sliced 1/16 inch thick and made a better shingle than bite. The brisket was ok. Good smoke and juicy. The onions were rings from Sysco and at first bite I thought it was calamari. 04/20/24 I could not order at the take-out window because it was raining. I went inside to order "Take out". I was asked if the order was "for here are to go" - I responded it was "to go". At the cash register, I placed a cash tip (the cashier saw the cash tip) in the tip jar and took my receipt. After getting home I noticed that the receipt showed a tip of $9.48 had been added to my bill. Also, my receipt showed that my "take out" order was marked as "dine-in"! I had a strong desire for brisket today and thought to visit the nearby Dickey's. Today would be my first visit to this location. I downloaded the mobile app mistakenly believing it would be easier to place an order than the website. When viewing a submitted order, the app gave the impression that I did not tip. I ended up double tipping. If I had checked the email, it would have showed the tip. Once I arrived, I checked in on the app. I was a bit worried because the home page incorrectly showed my pickup time five hours later, but the order summary page had the correct time. I was the only car waiting for a curbside order. So after waiting 10 minutes, I decided to call the location. Unfortunately, the app does not provide an easy way to call the location. It also would no longer show the order details after I checked in. Fortunately, the email had the contact information. A server came out a few minutes after my call. He did not wear a face mask or gloves. After I arrived home, I unpacked and noticed there was no bbq sauce. I did not have to check the email because the receipt clearly showed it. I have been to many bbq joints whose brisket does not need any sauce. This place is not one of them. There is a reason the chain offers seven types of sauce. Okay I get it, it's not that little hole in the wall bbq joint that people line up for hours.... Buts let's be real just because it's trending with a # doesn't make it good! That's why this particular Dickeys is legit! The people are so awesome from start to finish! They welcome you in and the meat guy is insanely awesome, which is an experience in it self. We happened to get a pound of brisket chopped and a couple sides... coleslaw and potato salad (original). The coleslaw was good and their potato salad is my favorite but I've been told it's on the mustardy side... and I don't even like mustard. Then the woman that helped us with the sides checked us out as well while being incredibly busy , yet being the nicest person ever! So I've spoken about the people, but the bbq is on point and won't disappoint across the board! Not to mention their 3 types of sauces; original, hot, and Carolina (which should stay is Carolina)! I've been coming to this dickeys a few years and now every time I stop by they NEVER disappoint. I'm always welcomed with a " WELCOME TO DICKEYS" Amazing smiles and great energy. The foods always so hot and fresh and always good! I've known Soledad for the period of time I've been going she's always so friendly and always has a smile on her face. She's an AMAZING employee. I had been a regular at this Dickey's because they still have some of the old menu favorites that the new, updated Dickey's no longer carry like au gratin potatoes and pasta salad. Clearly they reheat and re-salt their sides every single day until they are gone . The au gratin potatoes are brown and completely inedible due to being over cooked and salted for what would appear to be days. It's beyond disgusting today. I've tolerated it before but today is the last straw. The green beans were basically mush as well, heated and re-heated to the point where everything just falls a part. Thank you Dickey's Barbecue Pit in Flower Mound, TX for ruining our Christmas! I ordered the prime rib holiday special and when asked did I want it served hot or cold I stated "hot". The person the other end said he strongly recommended cold, so I went with the recommendation. Sadly this meant a raw prime rib!!!!! After heating for the recommended time of 350C for 1.5 hours , with monitoring for my meat preference, what I'm left with is a tough football style piece of meat, no flavor or apparently preparation. Why would I go to Dickey's Barbecue Pit for prime rib and pay $97.50, if all I'm am getting is raw meat? Shame on you Dickey's Barbecue Pit, this is a complete SHAM! I got the family pack meal from this location. I got sausage and sliced brisket. The sides were just fine and what I was expecting. What I was not expecting was the sausage and how utterly disgusting it was. It taste bologna or a very cheap hot dog. It was slimy and chewy. None of my kids would even eat it. I called the location and let them know that it was really bad they informed me they changed their sausage. Very disappointing to change to cut cost. Went through the drive thru to get beef brisket (by the pound) and a side for a dinner for two. I ordered sliced brisket and it was anything but. The slices that were in the container (and there were very few) were either grossly thick (1/2 inch thick or more) or just a chopped up mess (not slices at all). Plus, I must have got the burnt ends because the meat was dry, crusty, and chewy. JUST BAD and INEDIBLE. Money down the drain. Do not trust the quality of the meat you get when you go through their drive thru. When no one is watching them slice it/giving it to you in person, you get their worst. I have been going to this Dickey's for over 10 years. I make it a point to go at least a once a week so I can get my Potato stuffed my way. Since I know the staff over the years I can only assume that would be my sweet Latino who always greets me and knows my order just by the sound of my voice over the intercom. Me and my girlfriend have eaten here a few times and the last two times have been the worst. The first time it took a turn for the worst was in May of this year. After eating the barely warm chopped beef BBQ sandwich we experienced terrible indigestion and even worst diarrhea. I don't know if the meat was old or the sauce was old but either way it didn't sit well with either of us. The best thing going here are their specials where you can get a good meal on the cheap. Thats where this place shines. Don't expect large portions or taste bud exploding seasoning or bbq sauce. Good bbq cheap if you pull the trigger on a special. Otherwise, you might be spending a little more than you'd want for "fast foodish" bbq. The brisket is tasty and moist but overcooked to the point that it wont hold up to slicing. Falls apart into shredded brisket which still tastes good but if you're looking for sliced, this don't get it. Dickey's BBQ is a great CHAIN BBQ joint. I want to emphasize this point because I feel for a a large chain restaurant, Dickey's does an exceptional job of maintaining a delicious product that is pretty consistent in taste and quality from location to location. I would not compare this BBQ joint to a specialty craft type BBQ establishment, because quite frankly that's just not fair. That is also not the "niche" that Dickey's is trying to occupy. If I were to rate this on a "all restaurants and food establishments scale" - I give it a 3.5. If I were to rate this on a "fast food type restaurant scale" - I give Dickey's a FULL 5 STARS! :-) This location is clean, nicely decorated to make you feel like your at a "real" Texas BBQ joint. Staff are warm and friendly. Food is good, and normally very fresh, but if you get something you don't like...they'll switch it out for something else. Prices are expensive for being a "medium food" restaurant (not slow restaurant sit down and made to order food and not fast food...somewhere in between. You like that? I just made it up. Let's face it - BBQ in Texas is something of a religion, and everyone has their own denomination - a preference of sauce flavor, portions, and more. And a lot of the Texas BBQ is done best by the non-corporate-chains... like Angelo's in Fort Worth or Dripping Springs BBQ (in Dripping Springs, on the road to Fredericksburg). I find it interesting that other corporate BBQ actually exists in Texas - for example the one with the neon pigs playing guitars and their brown-sugar-soaked sauce, which is NOT Texas BBQ. But I digress. Personally, Dickey's is okay in a pinch, or for catering at a corporate picnic. But compared to other Texas based chains - like Colters - Dickeys falls short. The portions are tiny compared to most other BBQ places. The sauce seems like something generic out of a bottle - no particular zip (compared to other places, chains or non-corporate). Call it a matter of taste. I know there are many who prefer Dickeys over other places for taste, but I feel in the chain BBQ arena, Colters comes out far ahead, in flavor, portions, just about everything. Again, it's just a matter of personal taste, and Dickeys is just barely "Texas" BBQ with generic flavor and small portions and large prices.
