Giant Baker with Meat
Des J.

I tried out Dickey's for the first time on a group lunch order on a rainy day. Usually I don't like group orders because most places screw them up but I liked that Dickey's package the condiments separately so that my giant baker wasn't soggy by the time I got it. Now the giant baker I underestimated that it would be this filling so i got a side of brisket, but the baker is more than enough on its own. However, im glad I had the brisket because it was amazing...so juicy and tender. So if lunch order went so well I can imagine it taste 10x better when dining in. I will be back!

I got a brisket sandwich combo with barbecue beans. Their brisket sandwich is probably one of the best I've ever had with very lean meat the way I like it. The barbecue beans were outstanding as well. However the physical plant needs some work. Inside the restrooms the sink handle is broken and the place just doesn't look clean. I hope the back of the house is cleaner than the front of the house looked. Service was also very strange. I walked in and absolutely nobody was visible behind the entire counter. Suddenly someone appeared to take my order. They must've seen me coming on the cameras or something - a very strange experience, but I would come back for the food.

Mediocre ribs and brisket

Dickie's BBQ is under new management, and hopefully they will iron out the kinks. Turns out the bbq is all about who's the pit master. And maybe the new guy is ... new. What's good: people are nice and the place is clean. What's not so good: The ribs. Dry and ugly. Brisket - tasteless and ugly. Fries - Big and under cooked. The rest of the sides looked ok, and so did the pulled pork. They need to fix things pretty soon.

My stack of big yellow cups from the years of visiting Dickeys weekly

I have been going to Dickeys almost every week for almost 5 years. I love the jalapeño cheddar sausage the best of all. I have tried the other meats and they are good too. But the cheddar sausage is the tops for me. I haven't found any other place that has the taste that theirs does. The new owners have jumped in a brought the place back to prominence that they once were before. Keep up the great food and great service.

I am pretty sure this isn't how you are supposed to wear your mask. He cut meat and then put it back in the oven behind him.

I just do not get it!!! Why? Why can't people at this place wear their mask??? I seriously love their BBQ but this is so annoying! Covid isn't coming out of your chin!

Mmm brisket!

My friend and I walked in thinking we were going to get some Greek food. Nope Dickey's BBQ had moved in. The owner was proud to share with us newbies that they were based out of Dallas, TX and had been in the Cool Springs/Brentwood area for 9 months and yet to have people walk out disappointed. So it made me look really hard to try to find some errors. Though a chain in some parts of the States, Dickey's is a franchise and owned by locals! Order of brisket plate, a brisket burger and 3 sides between my buddy and I. Green beans, mashed potatoes and fried okra. The brisket had a great tender taste, not dry like some TX bbq. It had spices that gave a kick in your mouth but not too spicy. I actually love green beans and they put meat in it and seasoned. Some places just boil beans and no seasoning. Well Dickey's knows how to do it. From sides to a nice full menu. You can't go wrong. Yes they cater and next time I'm in gonna try the ribs! Clean place and friendly staff. Their sweet tea is brewed fresh and mixed perfect. OH and as was about to leave, FREE ICE CREAM CONES complimentary!!! BOOM. Too bad I don't eat sweets anymore. But that's a plus for any age!

It's a counter service joint; you walk up, order, and then someone runs the food to your table. First off, they asked for a point of service tip; that bugs me when I'm ordering my own food at the counter and fetching my own drinks. The menu is fairly standard for a southern BBA joint; brisket, pulled pork, ribs, turkey, chicken. I am generally suspicious of any place that offers chopped brisket. Brisket is meant to be sliced and enjoyed as a slab of meat, not as a pile of hash. So, the chopped brisket sandwich was out for me. I asked if the brisket platter would be served as slices, and they assured me it was, so I ordered brisket with two sides. They recommended the beans and the Mac 'n cheese, so that's what I went with. They also asked me if I wanted the meat lean, marbled, or half and half; I took that as a good sign, and asked for marbled. They food came out in about 5 mins; just enough time for me to head to the soda fountain and fill my own cup. Maybe they should tip me? On the plus side, the portions were pretty large. I'm guessing that the served at least 6-8 ounces of brisket, and the individual sides were pretty large as well. On the other hand, whoever sliced the brisket simply didn't know what they were doing. They sliced it WITH the grain, producing slices full of stringy meat. Stringy meat that was hard to cut with the plastic cutlery provided. I find it hard to believe that anyone who regularly serves BBQ brisket doesn't know to cut the meat against the grain. The meat appeared to feature a nice bark; however, on further exploration, a) the bark was so tough that it couldn't be cut as all with the plastic cutlery, and b) when I tore into it with my fingers and ate a piece, it had no taste. Not even a basic Texas salt and pepper rub could be detected. A large portion of tasteless, poorly cut meat does no one any favors. The beans were a little underdone; IMHO, that's far better than mushy, overcooked beans. However, they, too, had no flavor. No spice, nada. The mac and cheese was shells in a white cheese sauce. Strike 3; zero flavor for the sauce. I don't know how you can make cheese sauce without flavor, but they managed to do so. I have never, ever thrown as much food away at a a BBQ joint than I did today. What a shame. Not recommended, not even a little bit. Try Martin's or Edley's; if you prefer a chain, Mission BBQ will do you much better than Hogwood.

Parking was super easy, and the woman at the counter was friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were clean, and the restaurant itself is spacious with plenty of tables and room to spread out, which is always appreciated when dining with little kids. My kids played outside while we waited for our food, but the food came out quickly. The kids' meals are some of the best values in town. One tip: the bun on the kids' cheeseburger is huge compared to the patty. I asked if they could add an extra patty, and they did for just $1. After removing some of the bun, it made for a much better burger and still kept the meal incredibly affordable. The spicy chicken tacos are also some of the best tacos in town. Our family of five ate for about $50. We usually buy Edley's gift cards at Costco, so our actual cost was closer to $40. It's refreshing to have a restaurant in Nashville that truly welcomes families while still serving great food. Highly recommend for anyone dining with kids.

Our group decided to sit in the common area so everyone could grab food from different restaurants. I ordered the Tri-Star platter, which came with pulled pork, brisket, and pulled chicken. All three meats were tender and flavorful. Don't be shy with the BBQ sauce, it really takes everything to the next level. The platter comes with two sides. I chose one vegetable, baked beans, and one fruit, banana pudding. For those not from the South, macaroni and cheese is considered a vegetable, and banana pudding is absolutely a fruit. That's just science around here! The meal also included cornbread and slaw, making for a hearty plate of food. Everything was very good, portions were generous, and the service was excellent. When I arrived, there were a few people ahead of me looking over the menu and placing their orders. After taking a look myself, I decided to try the chicken sandwich with a side salad. I also asked for the white BBQ sauce on the side since I had never tried it before and wasn't sure if I would like it. After placing my order and paying, I headed into the restaurant, found a table, set down my number, and waited for the food to be delivered. A few minutes later, my food arrived, and it looked really good. The chicken sandwich was massive, and the side salad was a generous size as well. I tried the white BBQ sauce first and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't overly tangy or sweet. I also noticed a bottle of BBQ sauce on another table and wanted to give that a try, so I added a little to my sandwich. I'm not sure what variety it was, or if they offer multiple sauce options, but I actually preferred it to the white sauce. Eventually, I mixed the two together, and that combination ended up being just right for me. The sandwich was so large that I only finished about half of it. When I was ready for a to-go box, it took a little while to find someone to ask since there weren't many employees walking around the dining area. Once I tracked someone down, I packed up my leftovers and headed out. Overall, the chicken was good, and I enjoyed both sauces. That said, I've had BBQ at other places that I enjoyed more, and I'm not sure Edley's is somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit again. Still, it was a solid meal while spending the day at The Factory.

For the longest time, Bringle's was my absolute favorite in town, but Edley's may have just managed to take the crown. I almost feel like I'm cheating on Mr. Bringle by saying that, but as he famously put it, "You don't have to hate somebody else's barbecue to like mine." My default order at any top-tier joint is either a brisket plate or a multi-meat combo platter with brisket as the anchor. Edley's plates come properly equipped with two sides and a slice of cornbread. Where they really set themselves apart, though, is the menu flexibility: -The Add-Ons: You can throw on a $5 upcharge to add an extra 3 oz of meat or a jalapeño cheddar smoked sausage. -Burnt Ends: Edley's offers burnt ends, which is a bit of a rarity in town and something you don't easily find over at Jack's or Bringle's. If they're available when you order, grab them. Price-wise, Edley's isn't cheap, but it's far from overly expensive. It sits at fair market value, costing roughly what you'd pay for a comparable meal at any of the other major players in Nashville. The meats are high quality, wonderfully smoked, and packed with deep flavor. Beyond the rare burnt ends, the sauces here are what truly elevate the meal. Across the board, Edley's house sauces--from their classic red to their white sauce--are probably my personal favorites in the city. Between Jack's, Bringle's Smokin' Oasis, and Edley's, you genuinely cannot go wrong--Nashville barbecue is in great hands. But right now? Edley's holds my top spot. It is my ultimate "treat yourself" meal in town.
