Was craving BBQ so my husband and I came here while we were in town. Since this was one of the most highly rated BBQ spots, we decided to give it a shot. The lines were long but the service was actually pretty quick. It was a hot day and the inside was hot as well unfortunately. Full Rack - Solid BBQ but a bit inconsistent. Some parts were tender while some parts were tough. Overall flavor was really good and we had lots of leftovers after our meal. Mac and cheese was good but wish that it was less mushy. Beans and potato salad were a great accompaniment to our meal. Overall, if I was in town, I would probably try somewhere else for ribs, but solid option!
I had Martin's not once but TWICE this week... back-to-back nights. Is there better barbecue in Nashville? Maybe. But do you get better, more centrally located, with ease of access? Absolutely not. The place is very easy going and all of the staff is super helpful and knowledgeable - especially when guiding you to a meal that balances what you want without totally over ordering (although that can't help me). Then you circle around to the food itself... the smoke on the meats is perfectly balanced with the natural flavor of the meat with the seasoning. The meats are also WET and JUICY in the best way and what you wanted to be fatty was the right level of fatty. My favorite is probably the ribs, followed by the wings with the Alabama white, and then a close tie for third but the big bologna takes the cake. GO TO MARTINS IF YOU WANT GOOD BBQ! And then go again the next night.
One thing I love about Martin's is it is always consistent. While I do think there are better joints in the city, I have never had any issues with Martin's. I wish I could say that for other BBQ joints. This time I shared the Big Brother Sampler with Green Beans and Brocolli Salad. Somehow it got sent out with mac & cheese, so they sent out the brocolli salad for free. I appreciate when they make good and leave a little something. Great service. Brocolli salad was a bit sweet, but still tasty. Green beans were pretty average. Mac & cheese a step higher. Ribs a dry rubbed. I prefer Peg Leg's, but these are decent. Brisket was nicely done, as well. This location has a downstairs area with two bars and tables in between. There is also an upstairs area where bands play, if you are interested in music. There is a way to escape via Almond Street, if you don't want to walk back down the stairs. I tried the BBQ sauce, but did not really feel it added much to the food. As a downtown place, it is also useful they have less expensive cocktails than Lower Broad.
I feel sad to say this but I did not enjoy any of the food here. This place gets so busy and its so popular. I see many many people just walking by to take a picture of the sign! I love the decor in the inside. They have a live band upstairs. The line to order is awesomely place with rubs and bottles of sauce. Now, back to the food. The brisket is tooooooo soft. It breaks apart just sticking a fork in it. The ribs are too dry and the bbq sauce didnt hit. The fish fry just falls apart. I really didn't enjoy the food but I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I wouldn't come again as I feel maybe other spots could be better.
In search of a bbq place that's walking distance from downtown. This place kept popping up as highly recommended in different blogs and sites. Gave it a try- line was long but moved relatively quickly. Staff were friendly and gave suggestions in what to order. I had the beef brisket bbq tray which came with two slices of bread and 2 sides. I had the baked beans and the corn bread not cake. The brisket was ok but a bit consistent. Some pieces were pretty tender and juicy but others were actually quite dry and had to soak it in the bbq sauce. Baked beans were absolutely delicious. Cornbread was so so. It was more of a pancake. The spicy bbq sauce had a kick to it but I loved it. Price is on par with downtown prices. I took it to go but the ambience was lively and fun. I didn't get a chance to check out their beer garden. Overall would give it 3.5.
martin's barbecue what can I say but delicious finally got a chance to have your brisket while I was in Nashville last month and chefs kiss love the pulled brisket or chopped or whatever it is highly recommend chopped versus sliced baked potato was succulent and the mac & cheese was even better. Keep up the great work and please never run out of meat again.
Came here for a late Saturday dinner and they were busy, but there was still plenty of seating available. Order at the counter, they bring out the food to your table, and they'll also bus the table. We ordered 3 things to feed 5 medium hungry people and that was about right. The quantity of meat on the full rack of ribs felt like it was 2+ entrees. The beef brisket and whole pig (pulled pork) plates came with 2 sides and the full rack of ribs came with 3 sides. The ribs were meaty and cooked to a firm more chewy consistency. Brisket came with 3 half slices (probably the only plate I could have finished on my own) - cooked to a firmer consistency with a few drier bits. Whole hog was what I assume pulled pork from different parts of the pig (they have a separate pulled pork from pork shoulder). Thought the pulled pork had the right consistency. All the meats were reasonably seasoned. For the table, there was a very thin vinegar based sauce. The ribs came with a sauce that was the consistency that I would expect from a barbecue sauce. The rib sauce might have had a little ketchup and brown sugar in it to give it some body, but it was still very vinegar-forward. I would give the slight nod to the sauce that came with the ribs. We tried seven different sides - Slaw, Broccoli Salad, Baked Beans, Hoecakes, Green Beans, Fries, Mac & Cheese. I liked Fries the most - slightly thinner cut and really nice crust. Cornbread Hoecakes were the most interesting item being a Cornbread version of a pancake. Nothing particularly notable about the Slaw, Broccoli Salad, and Mac & Cheese - thought they roughly met expectations. Baked Beans were also on the tarter side. Green beans were Italian Green Beans and a bit softer than I'd like. I can't recall having other Nashville Barbecue, so this is really my first time having it. Meats were a bit firmer than what I'm used to. I've also been heavily conditioned to sweet sauces, so vinegar-forward Nashville style was a shock to the system. Sides were ok. Good amount of food for the price (with the brisket being a portion that most people could finish)
Delicious food, fun ambiance, and awesome live music! Definitely don't forget to get the margarita, it's delicious!
Came on a weekday for lunch. It's a flew blocks away from Broadway. The space itself is pretty big and we didn't have any trouble getting a seat even though it was busy. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. Got the brisket sandwich with a side of hush puppies and added an extra side of beans. The brisket was really tender and well seasoned. The beans were a bit on the sweet side for me but I did like that they had chunks of meat in it. The hush puppies are still amazing. Perfectly fried and not too heavy. Also not sweet at all which I really liked. It also has an onion forward flavor that I liked. I will say it's a bit pricey with my meal with tax and tip ended up being close to $30.
First time in Nashville so definitely had to try their BBQ. Saw rave reviews for Martins so was super exited to try! They had open seating and there was a decent line but moved very quickly. Food also came out fast as well! Got the brisket sandwich with hush puppies and bake beans. The brisket was so tender! It paired well with their Jack Creek sauce which had nice kick and sweet and sour taste. The hush puppies are a must! They were had a nice crunchy exterior with a pillowy soft inside. I appreciated that they werent too sweet as well! Baked beans were also solid. It came with a decent amount of bacon in it! Definitely will be back when I'm back in Nashville. And excited tol try something else on the menu!
Of course when in Tennessee from Texas you have to try their bbq and brisket. It was good but i still take Texas bbq at day. The restaurant is pretty large and the line moves quickly. The inside is a little toasty though but they do have Full bar to help cool you down.
I dined at this Martin's BBQ after an interview. I parked close by and expected a memorable meal. I certainly got that, but in all of the wrong ways. I wanted something cheaper and lighter so I grabbed a chicken plate. At ~$15 pre-tax, it certainly isn't cheap. That said, that's the cost of doing business in Nashville these days. I was deeply disappointed by the portion size. Yes, smaller chicken often times tastes better because it likely is a bit more natural than the massive birds you sometimes find. I still really didn't like how the caloric content of my meal was almost exclusively from the sides. If portion size is small, flavor has to be big. Sadly, flavor was pretty mid. It wasn't bad, but it's nothing special. So, this was a deeply unsatisfying meal, but it wasn't bad. That's easily a 2- or 3-star meal. Why is it 1-star? Well, I have no choice but to give it 1 star because the greedy owner/proprietor/whomever the decision maker is decided not to validate parking. I had to pay an absurd $15 extra for parking due to this restaurant's disgusting greed. So now instead of paying $15 + tax + tip for a mid-at-best chicken meal, I paid over $30. It's frankly absurd to allow reckless greed to take hold when you operate in the same city as Jack Cawthon, Carey Bringle's establishments and Edley's BBQ. I'll pick one of those restaurants 10 of 10 times over giving the obnoxiously greedy Martin's BBQ another try.
We just arrived in town and dropped our bags off at the hotel. I was hungry and we started walking and this was one of the first places we saw. We Popped in and I was not disappointed. We had the baked beans, the potato salad, the brisket, and the St. Louis style ribs. Food was hot fresh and served quick. We also had the pecan pie for dessert.

I would visit this place weekly if I lived nearby. Got the brisket and ribs with a side of beans, fries and macaroni. The fries had to be cooked in butter oil. For any Californian who has visited In-N-Out. The fries they were like that but twice as good with a flavor of butter and salt....so exceptionally good but the best part was the ribs so tender, and the flavor was outstanding.!!! We were all pleased and had to return before we left. The ribs had a flavor that you won't forget! Notice, I only have one photo of our food. We were too busy eating to take any. read more
First place I stopped in Nashville. Despite Nashville not being particularly known for BBQ, Martin's is a pretty popular spot. Luckily, we got right in, ordered, and the food came out quickly. The cashier up front was super helpful with recommendations, so I ended up ordering a plate with brisket, mac and cheese, and fries. It's not a bad deal. You get a lot of food for the price, and it's all good. The brisket was tender, the mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy, and the fries, well, you can't go wrong with those. I also got a side of spicy BBQ sauce, which had a surprisingly good kick to it. The inside is charming, but they weren't running the A/C in 90-degree heat and humidity, which I didn't particularly love. Still, I'd come back. I love a good BBQ joint! read more

First time in Nashville and we were recommended to try this spot out for some good southern BBQ and hospitality... and let me tell you, Martin's did NOT disappoint! My husband and I came here excited to try some authentic Tennessee BBQ and everything was honestly so good. I got the brisket with baked beans and mac & cheese, while my husband got the chicken with green beans and baked beans. First off... the brisket was SO tender and juicy. It paired perfectly with the BBQ sauce and those baked beans? OH MY GOD. The baked beans were seriously the star of the meal for me.. sweet, smoky, flavorful, and completely addicting. I could've eaten a whole bowl by myself The mac & cheese was also creamy and delicious, just solid comfort food all around. My husband loved his chicken too. Super juicy, flavorful, and not dry at all which is always a win with BBQ chicken. I also tried the Tennessee Sour and let me just say... they do not play around with drinks out here It was really good, but one more and I probably would've been done for the night lol. The hospitality here was amazing. Everyone was so kind, welcoming, and helpful which made the experience even better. Definitely a spot we'd come back to anytime we're in Nashville again. Came to sample their BBQ, here is everything I sampled and how everything faired Got the custom combo plate with brisket and catfish filets, coworker got the baby back ribs with side of fries and mac and cheese got to sample the rib it was tender but that outside rub was a bit much, had to drench it in sauce to pass the rub taste Also sample the brisket - tender, juicy, fall apart when you touch it, yeah order this and dip it in their sauce or have it plain definitely I would order this again Catfish filets - piping hot, sinfully delicious, slight crunch on that bite, seasoned well that tartar dip makes it even better. Order this Cornbread hoecake - hard pass it was similar to an unflavored pancake you thing with the name cornbread it would be slightly sweet sadly no Broccoli salad - i asked the waitress which should I get potato or broccoli salad she said try the broccoli, definitely another banger on their list of things to try, broccoli had a snap and was not over seasoned made just enough semi sweet sauce to make you finish the whole bowl I would come back for the brisket, broccoli salad and the catfish filets definitely Food **** that brisket is fire same as the catfish fillets and broccoli salad, *** baby back ribs were over seasoned * cornbread hoecake is a sadly not something I would sample again Price $$ Service ***** helpful, friendly Ambiance **** slight hue in color lights made everything look yellow when taking pictures, loud, energetic read more
Had an excellent visit to Martin's. Sat at the bar, they have a nice bourbon selection and a well stocked bar in addition to a good selection of beer and wine. The service team was excellent and very helpful! I was there for lunch and wanted to try the pulled pork sandwich...it was excellent. A nice smokey flavor, tender but a nice texture and good mouth feel, served with slaw on a fresh, flavorful bun. I had beans as my side, they were surprisingly good with a significant amount of meat included. These reminded me of what I have seen before as a cowboy type baked bean. They had the taste of some peppers in them and were very flavorful. All in all it was a great visit. You should give them a try! read more
Yesss ma'am!! Now this is a fine establishment! I absolutely loved walking into the outdoor seating area and seeing all of the plants, and this cool industrial look. Super awesome! They also offer indoor seating that is air conditioned, which was great to see both options offered!! We ordered our food at a window and they gave an item number, & the food runner eventually found me where I chose to sat. The nachos were sooo delicious! If I could change anything, I would just suggest adding pickled red onions, because YUM! Hahaha. They had a vinegar based bbq sauce that was very watery, unlike anything I've seen before, yet it was INCREDIBLE! I actually loved it because it brought so much more flavor to the food, without feeling like it was too much. I honestly wish I could have bought some to take home! It's fair to say I will easily be back here when I visit again! You HAVE to give this place a try!!! read more

This bbq place was packed and people were definitely enjoying their drinks and delicious bbq. I shared the bbq platter and it was more than enough to share. Flavors were on point and the bbq sauce was perrrrfect. So perfect I had to go and ask for extra bbq sauce. Yes that good! Meat was tender and juicy. You'll just have to try it. Definitely put you in a good coma if you're having it all to yourself. Plenty of seating and a bar in the back of the restaurant. read more
This place is unbelievably good. The service was fast and efficient, the prices were standard and the meats and sides were out of this world. Cannot recommend this place enough. The sides were perfect and exactly how I like them - the broccoli salad was definitely different from what I am use to but it was tangy and refreshing. The dry rubs they used were delicious and their BBQ sauce on the side was tangy and paired well with everything. If you're in the area this is like the top BBQ joint to visit. read more
Not a bad place to stop by if you want some good BBQ. The meats were soled just right, and the sides were really good as well!!! Prices are pretty reasonable for what you get and the staff were very helpful and friendly! The interior really accents the BBQ Joint feel. The biggest downside was the bread, I received the end of the bread loaf (as my kids call "butt bread" ). That part of the bread is rather tough and not the best compliment to good BBQ. Otherwise everything else was great! read more
We recently visited Nashville and had to stop by our favorite BBQ spot! This was our third visit, and every single time the experience has been amazing. We ordered the pulled pork sandwiches with fries and potato salad, along with the smoked wings. Everything was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. You order at the register, grab a number, and seat yourself, which makes the process quick and easy. The portions are generous, and the food comes out fast. If you're in Nashville and craving great BBQ, this is definitely the place to go! read more

The location is conveniently downtown Nashville. There are several paid parking options nearby and even in front. The decor was good. It was a fun environment. There was a greeter upon entering and existing which was nice as he was very upbeat and smiling. We came in for a little snack before heading to bed and decided on the nachos. The slaw was warm and the meat was not hot. I added a little bbq sauce and it was a decent nacho. read more

Loved this spot! When you walk in if you're not going to the bar grab a menu and get in line to order. Enjoyed the Redneck Taco - Ho cake with pulled pork and coleslaw and Hubs had the brisket sandwich- both did not disappoint! Plus the baked beans were delicious read more

Martin's was recommended to me by a person my company interviewed from Vanderbilt. After we checked into our hotel, Martin's was the first stop. It was dinner time and the line was out the door and onto the sidewalk. Despite that, the line moved swiftly. There is main dining room seating and a rooftop patio option as well. Martin's is an eclectic space that gave Nashville, country store and BBQ vibes throughout. We were undecided on what to order, but the "sold out" updates helped us decide. Before we placed our order I stopped dead in my tracks when I spotted a Nehi peach soda. I haven't seen the brand since I was a kid and assumed they no longer existed. We ordered the Big Brother Sampler (ribs, brisket, baked beans, mac n cheese) and we added cornbread. The ribs, brisket and beans were our favorites. For dessert we had a strawberry cake which was tasty. We finished about half the dinner and two bites of cake...we were stuffed! Luis, Julia, Brooklyn and Dre were amazing and took great care of us. Love Martin's BBQ! They are consistent with the food, service and ambiance wherever you go. This location has two large bars and lots of space for group dining. It's conveniently located downtown but in an area that's not so crowded. The service was fast and the bbq is really good. The sandwich, beverage and side is about $20 which is fairly priced. read more

In town for a Battery Council expo, we wanted to hit all the famous local eateries. Tonight was bbq night and Hattie B's was a one minute walk from the Omni. We ordered the full rack of ribs, beef slices, 18 smoked wings, fried catfish, fries, mac and cheese, broccoli, hush puppies, potato salad and coleslaw. Catfish was meltingly tender as was the bbq beef. Wings were smoky and flavorful. The only letdown was the bbq, dryrub ribs which were super dry, blackened, almost jerky like. Not yummy. Fries were flaccid and oily, otherwise the rest of the side were all well made. Nehi orange sodas all around, nostalgic. Picnic table layout with copious amounts of paper towels. Good times to be had here. About $200 all-in with tips and soft drinks. read more
Recommended by a couple of our local Lyft drivers in Nashville. The line was out the door! Huge restaurant and has ample seatings for large groups. I tried their brisket plate and it came with fries and coleslaw. I thought it was pretty decent and I rate it a 4 star. The BBQ sauce was tasty and had a great flavor. I wish I was able to go back and try it again. Maybe next time. I opted for their sweet tea because you just have to! Goes well with Southern food. Service was great. Such nice people! read more

I went here alone before a concert and got a seat at the bar without a wait. Environment was fun and lively without being too loud. Ordered the beef brisket on the bartender's recommendation and I'm glad I did! Tender, flavorful, and the sauce was tasty too. Both sides were delicious. Honestly, I was super underwhelmed. I ordered the big brother, which comes with ribs and brisket, and for my two sides I had Mac n cheese and potato salad. You know it's underwhelming when the best thing is the side dishes. Mac n cheese and potato salad were delicious. Brisket was very dry and chewy - bbq sauce was needed with most bites. And the ribs were good. Nothing incredible, but they were good. I unfortunately, will try a different barbecue spot next time I'm in Nashville. read more

Came in on a busy Saturday and got seated quickly at the bar. The service is friendly and easy. We opted for the feast that feeds twos and found it was a better bang for your buck. Plus the portions were great! The sliced turkey was on the blander side but the spare ribs fell off the bone!! I would say just a tad too much seasoning since it was hitting my throat when I took a bite. The spicy sausage is super spicy But we loved it. The brisket was just okay for us but super tender. The sides we opted for were the hush puppies, Mac and cheese, and green beans. I personally only liked the hush puppies. They were fresh and the batter was delicious. The Mac and cheese was awful and didn't have flavor. The green beans were good and had a stringy pork mixed in with onions. Overall I would try it again! read more
Fun place with a great atmosphere. Perfect place to enjoy a backyard style setting with friend or family. BBQ is good with Brisket taking top honors for me. Service is pretty much self serve but it fits the vibe perfectly. read more

Stopping at Martin's BBQ while in Nashville was on the top of our list and it didn't disappoint! We all loved our meals and left with happy bellies! Lots of seating and for big groups too. It is hard to pick a favorite but the mac & cheese was definitely a winner! read more

Yes, they have a ramp right at the front entrance and an elevator to the outdoor deck area.

On a Friday, what would be the best time for a group of 8 to get there and be able to sit outside?
I'm not from TN, but i would assume the best time is before peak time/line starting build up. So i would say between 4-5 pm; not too early and not too late.
Is the outdoor seating area dog friendly?
No dogs are not allowed in the outdoor seating area
Where is the best, closest free parking?
You can park on third avenue on the street (one block up). There isn't a ton of spots but its free if you can find it. There is a $5 pay lot directly across the street on 4th
