Came in on a busy Saturday and got seated quickly at the bar. The service is friendly and easy. We opted for the feast that feeds twos and found it was a better bang for your buck. Plus the portions were great! The sliced turkey was on the blander side but the spare ribs fell off the bone!! I would say just a tad too much seasoning since it was hitting my throat when I took a bite. The spicy sausage is super spicy But we loved it. The brisket was just okay for us but super tender. The sides we opted for were the hush puppies, Mac and cheese, and green beans. I personally only liked the hush puppies. They were fresh and the batter was delicious. The Mac and cheese was awful and didn't have flavor. The green beans were good and had a stringy pork mixed in with onions. Overall I would try it again!

In town for a Battery Council expo, we wanted to hit all the famous local eateries. Tonight was bbq night and Hattie B's was a one minute walk from the Omni. We ordered the full rack of ribs, beef slices, 18 smoked wings, fried catfish, fries, mac and cheese, broccoli, hush puppies, potato salad and coleslaw. Catfish was meltingly tender as was the bbq beef. Wings were smoky and flavorful. The only letdown was the bbq, dryrub ribs which were super dry, blackened, almost jerky like. Not yummy. Fries were flaccid and oily, otherwise the rest of the side were all well made. Nehi orange sodas all around, nostalgic. Picnic table layout with copious amounts of paper towels. Good times to be had here. About $200 all-in with tips and soft drinks.

To be honest it was okay, I definitely can say I had better. The sides to me were the worst part. Meat was dry & idk the guy at the front, not the register was simply just not welcoming.

I definitely recommend not eating all day before coming here because the amount of food you are gonna get is huge. The ribs are delicious and tender, and they come with a very good sauce to put on them. The fries starters are also pretty good, and they have brisket and jalapeños on them to enhance the flavor even more.

We were in Nashville and of course, had to try one of these spots. I had a tray with catfish and while it was nice and crispy, it was so salty, I was only able to eat a small amount. The broccoli side was delicious and the mac n cheese was fine as well. We didn't realize there was a whole upstairs/outdoor area to hang out at - would definitely have chosen to eat up there if we had known!

Pulled Pork Shoulder, Mac and Cheese, Green Beans

Great option for lunch near the Music City Center. We walked over and sat at the bar. Friendly and attentive bartenders explained the menu, made suggestions and took our orders. Food arrived quickly- very good pulled pork, Mac and cheese and green beans. Perfect when you don't have a long lunch break. Tons of searing in multiple floors.

I was told a lot of good things about Martin's BBQ, but in my experience none of it was true. The BBQ was really dry overall. The brisket and the pulled pork were room temperature when it came out and the meat was fairly tough and dry. The sauce helped a little bit, but didn't really do much. The sides were ordinary, nothing special. For a place so highly recommended I was very disappointed with the food here. An uber driver told us that the owner recently sold the place out and new management was running things. Maybe all the high praise for this place was before the new management stepped in.

Always a great time eating bbq at Martin's. Food is always good and consistent. Pro tip, eat upstairs and enjoy the weather.

Finally got to try Martin's! I've heard a lot about it from fellow travelers and thought it was time to try it out. The place just opened when we arrived so we had our choice of seating. The food is ordered at the counter and comes out to the table quickly. Both items I had were made with brisket and they were delicious! It's definitely worth trying as the hype was real with this bbq.

We were looking for some brisket when we traveled to Nashville. This place was the perfect spot. You walk in and order at the counter and get a number. There is a ton of tables. We went upstairs and it was such a great area. Lots of family style seating, there's a stage (no music when we went on Easter). There's a semi outside bar. The table had car seats as the chairs. Looked fun to sit in but we sat outside at the table. There was a wood ping pong table and some other games in side by the bathrooms and another bar (upstairs). The employees were very friendly. It was a great choice when we wanted authentic ribs and brisket.

Power out. Heat gone. I'm surviving off vibes and my phone charger. I end up at Martin's BBQ on 4th Ave. I've been to Martin's before, just not this one and yes, I went twice in the same day. I'm alone in a hotel. This is self care. Downstairs: Sat at the bar and immediately felt like I had committed a crime. Every sip of my beer triggered another "so what are you ordering?" like I was squatting illegally. Relax. I ordered the two meat, two side tray and received what can only be described as BBQ appetizers. $35for exactly three(yes that is 3) brisket slices and a shy piece of chicken that looked nervous to be there. Also education moment: several staff members did not know what was in the food. The mac & cheese has bacon grease in it. No one knew this. I'm not a devout Muslim. I'm not Muslim at all. But I do like knowing what I'm putting into my body. Call me crazy. Upstairs: A spiritual awakening. Cool space. Great people. Actual joy. I ordered food to go and somehow got more food, better food, for less money. Same building. Different dimension. Science can't explain it. Also BIG BIG BIG HIGHLIGHT: taco brisket. Those would be my last meal. I can cry thinking about those. I will def come back, like i was genuinely mind blown by how cool the upstairs were. But also the staff was more cool and kind up there. I know probably by accident and the people down there did not mean bad. Just can we not ask a man 3 times in 10 minutes WHAT HE WANTS TO EAT!!! Im single not cause I'm ugly I'm just tired of nagging!

This place is MUCH bigger than it looks from the outside. We arrived for lunch just after they opened & the staff members were fresh & friendly, and there was plenty of seating. It was recommended that we go upstairs, and we were thankful for the recommendation, as it is bright and open. You order & pay, and then the food is brought to your table. The food was quite good, we had sandwiches including the pulled pork, brisket, fried chicken, and paddy (how they spell it) melt. The best side was by far the hush puppies-so crispy and good! The fries and the mac and cheese were good, but nothing special. The only disappointments were the pies, as they were just meh. As with most places in the area, it will be quite loud once it is full and the live music is going, but it was pleasant when we were there for an early lunch.

A bit of a hike off Broadway but definitely worth the walk. The restaurant is a little overwhelming as you walk in as there is so much going on - in a good way. So much to see and so many unique items - like the area with seating all from old cars and trucks - seatbelts still attached!! We ordered upstairs and sat outside since it was a beautiful evening. The food came pretty quickly which was nice and the barbeque was good. I am not a fan of the vinegar based sauce which was on the table but friends got the ribs and it came with a thicker sweeter sauce that I really liked. The beans and fries were great.

Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint

Is this restaurant wheelchair accessible?

Yes, they have a ramp right at the front entrance and an elevator to the outdoor deck area.

Are you dog friendly?

The outdoor patio was , but not inside

UPDATE: Thanks all for the quick answers. Sitting at their bar now- mask free;)... (Original question: It says mask required. Is that just outdated?)

No mask required.

Is there a cover when a show is on? If so, how much?

No cover, just a great show!

On a Friday, what would be the best time for a group of 8 to get there and be able to sit outside?

I'm not from TN, but i would assume the best time is before peak time/line starting build up. So i would say between 4-5 pm; not too early and not too late.

Is the outdoor seating area dog friendly?

No dogs are not allowed in the outdoor seating area

Where is the best, closest free parking?

You can park on third avenue on the street (one block up). There isn't a ton of spots but its free if you can find it. There is a $5 pay lot directly across the street on 4th

I ordered the thigh/leg quarter piece with side of criss cut fries, side of 2 waffles, and dipped in the comeback sauce washed down with the sweet tea offered The chicken was fried perfectly, piping hot crunch on all corners seasoned well, tender in the middle, oddly letting it sit for some time you can taste all the oil that sits on the chicken when it is luke warm not its best taste, best to have it on site while it is piping hot, yes it is messy so be prepared to clean up a mess the waffles were small but piping hot, fluffy but slightly dense you can taste how dense after the second bite, add butter or syrup to force it down, again when piping hot delicious luke warm you can taste the inconsistencies the criss cut fries were a bonus to the meal, piping hot and crunchy on most parts pretty much dipped everything on that comeback sauce, I do recommend that sauce the bread pudding for me was sad upset, unless you get to the bottom your not gonna get to your bread pudding, it is layered with ice cream on top and meshed with the bread pudding, you have to pass the top layer to get to your bread pudding if you are in the area and want to sample Nashville's version fried chicken this would be a good interpretation, again best to have it onsite and immediately if you are getting this delivered your missing out, always have it piping hot food ***.5 good when piping how luke warm not so great service **** very helpful staff, friendly price $$ ambiance **** loud, open air, windy due to the fans going off, but the vibe was good in here

On one visit with only a few of us there our bartender disappeared for a good 20 minutes. Upon his return he was focused on everything but the 5 of us in the place until we finally had to ask to get service. The other visit everyone helped me but the actual server. Maybe this is a staffing problem, I don't know but being stuck for 20 minutes to order another drink with my meal is not acceptable. Although they had that check in my hand in under a minute and in under another minute to process. Again, super nicer people, but kind of oblivious. 2) Now let's talk about the kitchen. And I'm adding some input from the other diners because we all sat there waiting. - flavors are great, but the salt and spice level is overboard. I had the mushroom appetizer and nearly choked/coughed to death. I like heat but this was raw spice that overpowered the dish. And the salt about made my feet swell into balloons. Such a shame because the idea is great just poor execution - deviled eggs. Pass - BBQ Shrimp, sort of like the mushrooms right profile but overpowering - gumbo. Two other people had the gumbo and when I asked they said that too is just over spiced I want to like this place, but probably my last visit unless I just come for oysters. Sorry
