    Brisket Bowl
    Keith H.

Ordered the brisket bowl today. Sadly I think economics has hit this place. This is my usual order here but they have decided to change the plating now and go smaller and it seems these are a to-go bowl now versus the nice plate/bowl they did serve this item in. So quantity of food items is sizable smaller. Price is more quantity is less sadly. Taste was good, brisket was way more fatty this time and no real bark from the edges either. So it seems times have changed this place. Sad. I always liked going here. But for this price and now the quantity given, it will make me think twice before coming back. I have included the now and before photos so folks can see the difference.

Definitely the soul of barbecue had a little bit of everything. It was so good eyes were bigger than my stomach a lot of protein on the plate very polite young servers amazing food. Definitely a five star came all the way from Murphysville because fat guys isn't open anymore. Very generous portion sizes.

I have driven by Hogwood for years and finally decided to pop in for lunch recently...and dang, I been missing out for all this time! Hogwood occupies one end of the plaza that also holds Sperry's, Smoothie King and few other local businesses. Given its location in the corner, they have a nice patio that is fairly shaded by the surrounding trees. If outside isn't your thing, or the season isn't right, they have a nice sized, open inside dining room too. The set up is counter service and table delivery, with self serve drink and sauce stations. The space is well laid out and features an open kitchen/prep area where all the goods are and the fun happens with chopping meats, prep, etc... Their menu is fairly standard for a BBQ spot, but the quality is far from standard. I was not expecting much more than a decently tasty lunch, but what I got was tender and juicy chicken, equally juicy and cheese stuffed sausage that has an impressive snap, a lightly dressed, crisp and refreshing slaw and an Alabama white sauce that may be my favorite I have ever had! Price point is a tad high, but honestly after the meal, I get it. I paid around $20 for the two meat sampler with a side and water to drink. Service was stellar here as well. From entry to food delivery to exit, everyone I encountered was helpful, friendly and seemed genuinely happy. Overall, big fan of Hogwood BBQ at this point!

We got the Hogwood Sampler to share. Let's go in order: Pulled pork - excellent Ribs - held their own, have had better Mac and cheese - average. Not a lot of flavor. Cheese flavor an afterthought Sausage - cheese center, kind of spicy, meh Brisket - meat tender, when you could get to it, inordinate amount of fat White sauce - would make an excellent dill dip in a bread bowl, as a sauce for chicken, nah. Chicken - dry as the desert itself Slaw - mix of cabbage and kale, don't go to a BBQ for my health, underdressed Pickles - I dunno, never got them Hogwood is not an honest to goodness BBQ. While the meat was more "miss than hit", the sides were more bougie and not in a good way. I have a $5 credit for another visit. We'll be back to the area in a few months but I highly doubt I'm going to use it.

Searching online for a good barbecue restaurant in the Nashville area and Hogwood came up. It had a lot of great reviews and pictures of delicious food. I was staying in a local hotel so I decided to order Uber eats. I ordered the brisket platter with two sides. It came with three large slices of brisket and you could specify if you wanted marbled or lean. Of course I choose marbled because who wants lean when they're eating barbecue. There were many choices of sides, but I settled on the beans which were chock full of chunks of burnt end meat . I also chose the pour over mac & cheese, which was delicious. It was creamy wet with cheese over perfectly cook cooked pasta shells. And also came with white bread. It was well packaged and came still warm. The service was really good and everything I needed was in the bag. I couldn't say too much about the restaurant since I didn't go, but if you're looking for a takeout option, this is a good option. As I was checking out, I happened to notice they had dessert and I couldn't pass up the banana pudding. It was perfectly portioned and super creamy with a perfect ratio of bananas. Sometimes these puddings have too many cookies in there, but this was perfect. All in it was $27.99 for the food of course there were add-ons for the delivery as expected but I think that's a good deal for barbecue and dessert.

Very impressed with this place. We got the 4 meat sampler with 2 side. Pulled pork, brisket, chicken, and jalapeno cheddar sausage. Sides we beans, potato salad, and green chili and cheese grits. All the meats were very good. Nice smoke and very juicy. As for the sides, the beans and potato salad were good. But this green chili cheese grits..... Wonderful. These were phenomenal. Soooo gooood. Everyone there was so polite and helpful. We felt welcomed as soon as we walked in and they greeted us into this nice and clean restaurant. They don't go crazy with the decor cause they let the food do the talking. And it was great. Give them a try.

Hogwood is probably my favorite place to eat Barbeque in Franklin. I've tried almost everything on the menu, and it's all incredible. The meat selections are cooked to perfection, and the sides are delicious. Speaking of sides, you would think a tiny serving of pickles on each platter would be enough, not! I get a whole cup of these things, as one of my servings because they are so good. To be honest, I could probably eat several more cups. It and the rosemary potato salad, along with the marbled Brisket are my most ordered items. ***Side descriptions taken from Hogwood's website*** Icebox Pickles (Fresh sliced cucumbers and onions and add our pickle brine made from rice wine vinegar and the Hogwood Pickling Spice Mix) and Rosemary Potato Salad (real potatoes and bacon, mixed with a hint of rosemary to create something new and refreshing.) My husband ordered the Lean Brisket with Hatch Chile Cheese Grits(Fire Roasted Green Chile's from Hatch, New Mexico with Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Hogwood Seasoning, and Stone Ground Grits grits) and Hogwood Slaw (Thinly Sliced Cabbage, Kale, and green apples tossed with our Maple Cider Vinaigrette and garnished with hemp hearts. Our Maple Cider Vinaigrette is made from Apple Cider Vinegar and sweetened with real maple syrup.) Leaving it up to the reader to check out descriptions to rest of the menu. But, it's best to go in person and taste what appeals to you. If contemplating, they give samples to help make the final selection. Once there, you order and pay at the register. You're given a number, and your food is brought to the table. The restaurant has the smoky aroma of a barbecue place, and it's a clean environment. Service is great, because everyone at this place works to make you a happy customer. I would recommend this Hogwood BBQ to anyone looking for this type food.

The food was decent but I believe there is better barbecue to be had in the area. I'm not sure why a tip would be expected when they only bring out your food. We were greeted with live music, so that part was pretty cool. The brisket was pretty good. I could've passed on the beans. The potato salad and grits are by far the best sides.

I wish you could give half stars. This place is more than a 3 but not quite a 4. Stopped in to try with my wife and I had the Colorado and she tried the brisket. There was live music out on the patio this afternoon and the artist was from Ohio; pretty cool show. The grits were good, and I probably enjoyed the most out of the side options. The potato salad was a very close second. I don't remember the company but their soda fountain has flavors like a jones soda dispenser would. The white sauce was pretty flavorful. I'd only have wanted the temperature of my food to be higher, it only sat for 2 minutes while I got a drink but wasn't hot enough for me. Will try again

This was the first place we stopped after we got to our hotel. Food was amazing. We love BBQ and have tried places in many states and this ranks close to the top. I love the jalapeño grits; They were to die for. The brisket was moist and fatty which made it so flavorful. The bbq sauces were awesome. I love the spicy one! The icing on the cake was the banana pudding.

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat for lunch while in town for a volleyball tournament. You order counter service and they bring it to the table. The drinks are an off brand, but they were still pretty good. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the Colorado sandwich with Mac n cheese. The sandwich was really good especially when I added a little of their yummy white sauce to it. The jalapeños were pretty hot as they were fresh sliced and I ended up taking them off. The Mac n cheese is pretty standard except they add a Parmesan crisp and a dusting of bbq seasoning. Hubby had the brisket plate and asked for it to be marbled and it certainly did not disappoint. Give them a shot if you are in the area.

Loved the ambiance and service at this place. As soon as you walk in it smells divine. The food was aesthetically appetizing and is nicely placed on the plate. However, as someone who has tried BBQ from Mississippi to Memphis to Nashville, it didn't make my "top favorite list". Overall my ribs were a bit too fatty and not much meat (not sure if it was just our cut). We tried the beans, coleslaw, and hatch chile grits. I wasn't a fan of the beans or coleslaw but the hatch chile grits are delicious . We would return back for those. Great place to grab a bite, it's clean and has excellent service.

Chopped Brisket Sandwich with 2 Sides
    Luis F.

We were in the area and wanted lunch so we tried Hogwood out and were excited about the BBQ. I ordered the Brisket sandwich and 2 sides ...which were the Beans and Mac & cheese. It was counter service and had a fast causal vibe but the food was fresh. The brisket was great , the beans were a bit soupy (which I enjoyed) and had bits of meat in it. It was very salty and the Mac & cheese was a bit underwhelming. It was a creative take on it but it was just ok. The real winner was the brisket. Cheers

The most delicious brisket sandwich and their take on grits.

We ordered to-go and sat in the middle of the Factory, so I can't speak much to table service, but everyone was incredibly nice and helpful while we waited. They even double-checked our bag before we left (which I love because something always seems to get messed up). This time? Nothing did. The food was bomb dot com. What we ordered: -Burnt Ends: Served atop grits, alongside cornbread, and a side of your choice. We got the banana pudding, and it was incredible- definitely some of the best I've ever had. -Basket of Fries: I asked for a side, but it was rung up as a basket. It was way more than I wanted. I didn't realize this until after we paid, and didn't want to reverse it over a $2 difference. Fries were good, though. -Southern Salad with pulled chicken: Croutons were not great for being advertised as homemade. This salad was okay, nothing spectacular. Not a lot of bacon either. All in all, this place was good but nothing extraordinary. They charge for a water cup, which is kinda ridiculous, but I also like that it de-incentivizes using single-use materials. Luckily, I bring a water bottle with me almost everywhere, so we were able to refill it.
