I found Hogwood here on Yelp. I just got into town and wanted some BBQ for dinner. They did not disappoint. I got the sampler so that I could try a bit of each meat. The brisket, ribs and sausage were my favorites. Ordering was easy. I was served quickly and with a smile. The restaurant was clean in and out. There were a couple of families here while I dined. One was outside, one inside. Overall, I highly recommend dining here for the food, service, and ambiance. read more

Wanted to love. Hoped I'd love it. I didn't love it. Actually, I didn't even like it. Went in hungry around 2:00. It's a counter service joint; you walk up, order, and then someone runs the food to your table. First off, they asked for a point of service tip; that bugs me when I'm ordering my own food at the counter and fetching my own drinks. The menu is fairly standard for a southern BBA joint; brisket, pulled pork, ribs, turkey, chicken. I am generally suspicious of any place that offers chopped brisket. Brisket is meant to be sliced and enjoyed as a slab of meat, not as a pile of hash. So, the chopped brisket sandwich was out for me. I asked if the brisket platter would be served as slices, and they assured me it was, so I ordered brisket with two sides. They recommended the beans and the Mac 'n cheese, so that's what I went with. They also asked me if I wanted the meat lean, marbled, or half and half; I took that as a good sign, and asked for marbled. They food came out in about 5 mins; just enough time for me to head to the soda fountain and fill my own cup. Maybe they should tip me? On the plus side, the portions were pretty large. I'm guessing that the served at least 6-8 ounces of brisket, and the individual sides were pretty large as well. On the other hand, whoever sliced the brisket simply didn't know what they were doing. They sliced it WITH the grain, producing slices full of stringy meat. Stringy meat that was hard to cut with the plastic cutlery provided. I find it hard to believe that anyone who regularly serves BBQ brisket doesn't know to cut the meat against the grain. The meat appeared to feature a nice bark; however, on further exploration, a) the bark was so tough that it couldn't be cut as all with the plastic cutlery, and b) when I tore into it with my fingers and ate a piece, it had no taste. Not even a basic Texas salt and pepper rub could be detected. A large portion of tasteless, poorly cut meat does no one any favors. The beans were a little underdone; IMHO, that's far better than mushy, overcooked beans. However, they, too, had no flavor. No spice, nada. The mac and cheese was shells in a white cheese sauce. Strike 3; zero flavor for the sauce. I don't know how you can make cheese sauce without flavor, but they managed to do so. I have never, ever thrown as much food away at a a BBQ joint than I did today. What a shame. Not recommended, not even a little bit. Try Martin's or Edley's; if you prefer a chain, Mission BBQ will do you much better than Hogwood. read more

Hogwood occupies one end of the plaza that also holds Sperry's, Smoothie King and few other local businesses. Given its location in the corner, they have a nice patio that is fairly shaded by the surrounding trees. If outside isn't your thing, or the season isn't right, they have a nice sized, open inside dining room too. The set up is counter service and table delivery, with self serve drink and sauce stations. The space is well laid out and features an open kitchen/prep area where all the goods are and the fun happens with chopping meats, prep, etc... Their menu is fairly standard for a BBQ spot, but the quality is far from standard. I was not expecting much more than a decently tasty lunch, but what I got was tender and juicy chicken, equally juicy and cheese stuffed sausage that has an impressive snap, a lightly dressed, crisp and refreshing slaw and an Alabama white sauce that may be my favorite I have ever had! Price point is a tad high, but honestly after the meal, I get it. I paid around $20 for the two meat sampler with a side and water to drink. Service was stellar here as well. From entry to food delivery to exit, everyone I encountered was helpful, friendly and seemed genuinely happy. Overall, big fan of Hogwood BBQ at this point! read more

Ordered the brisket bowl today. Sadly I think economics has hit this place. This is my usual order here but they have decided to change the plating now and go smaller and it seems these are a to-go bowl now versus the nice plate/bowl they did serve this item in. So quantity of food items is sizable smaller. Price is more quantity is less sadly. Taste was good, brisket was way more fatty this time and no real bark from the edges either. So it seems times have changed this place. Sad. I always liked going here. But for this price and now the quantity given, it will make me think twice before coming back. A very good visit to Hogwood BBQ! This is in a little strip mall so parking out front is pretty easy. Order at the counter, then find a seat. I went with the BBQ pulled pork sandwich, 2 sides: Slaw and the Potato Salad. They have white sauce available at the "drink station", otherwise traditional BBQ sauces on the table. Sandwich was great, I always put a bit of slaw on my BBQ and added some white sauce. It was delicious! Slaw is vinegar based and includes a bit of kale, it is fine. But the Rosemary Potato Salad was really good! Just a bit of bacon in there too to complete the flavors. Others enjoyed the Hatch Green Chili Grits which is a nice take on traditional grits. Staff was super friendly and as we sat around the table, they came over to our table after lunch asking if we wanted a mini Moon Pie to complete the meal! Of Course! Chicken - dry as the desert itself Slaw - mix of cabbage and kale, don't go to a BBQ for my health, underdressed Pickles - I dunno, never got them Hogwood is not an honest to goodness BBQ. While the meat was more "miss than hit", the sides were more bougie and not in a good way. I have a $5 credit for another visit. Searching online for a good barbecue restaurant in the Nashville area and Hogwood came up. It had a lot of great reviews and pictures of delicious food. I was staying in a local hotel so I decided to order Uber eats. I ordered the brisket platter with two sides. It came with three large slices of brisket and you could specify if you wanted marbled or lean. Of course I choose marbled because who wants lean when they're eating barbecue. There were many choices of sides, but I settled on the beans which were chock full of chunks of burnt end meat . I also chose the pour over mac & cheese, which was delicious. It was creamy wet with cheese over perfectly cook cooked pasta shells. And also came with white bread. It was well packaged and came still warm. The service was really good and everything I needed was in the bag. I couldn't say too much about the restaurant since I didn't go, but if you're looking for a takeout option, this is a good option. As I was checking out, I happened to notice they had dessert and I couldn't pass up the banana pudding. It was perfectly portioned and super creamy with a perfect ratio of bananas. Sometimes these puddings have too many cookies in there, but this was perfect. All in it was $27.99 for the food of course there were add-ons for the delivery as expected but I think that's a good deal for barbecue and dessert. read more

All the meats were very good. Nice smoke and very juicy. As for the sides, the beans and potato salad were good. But this green chili cheese grits..... Wonderful. These were phenomenal. Soooo gooood. Hogwood is probably my favorite place to eat Barbeque in Franklin. I've tried almost everything on the menu, and it's all incredible. The meat selections are cooked to perfection, and the sides are delicious. Speaking of sides, you would think a tiny serving of pickles on each platter would be enough, not! Stopped into Hogwood BBQ in Franklin for dinner after a long, exhausting day and it absolutely hit the spot. I went with the Hogwood Sampler which comes with chicken, sausage, ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, plus mac-n-cheese on the side. All in it was $27.89 plus tax, which feels like pretty fair market value for the amount and quality of food you're getting. The food itself was incredible. Way too many barbecue places lean way too hard on sauce to do the heavy lifting. That is not the case here. Every single meat had deep, legit smoky flavor on its own and honestly didn't even need sauce. That said, the sauces were also excellent. The Alabama white paired perfectly with the chicken, and the spicy tomato-based red sauce had a great kick without overpowering anything. Drink selection was another pleasant surprise. They've got Coke products and Tractor Organic Beverages. I mixed their unsweet tea with the Tractor mango and made myself a mango tea that worked way better than it had any right to. If I had to nitpick, the side selection is a little limited for my personal taste. I'm always hoping for fries or hush puppies, though to be fair that's not uncommon for BBQ joints around here. I also ran into a sticky spot on the table that clearly hadn't been fully wiped down from a previous guest. That said, the food was good enough that it still lands as a five-star experience for me. I wish you could give half stars. This place is more than a 3 but not quite a 4. Stopped in to try with my wife and I had the Colorado and she tried the brisket. There was live music out on the patio this afternoon and the artist was from Ohio; pretty cool show. The grits were good, and I probably enjoyed the most out of the side options. The potato salad was a very close second. I don't remember the company but their soda fountain has flavors like a jones soda dispenser would. The white sauce was pretty flavorful. The drinks are an off brand, but they were still pretty good. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the Colorado sandwich with Mac n cheese. The sandwich was really good especially when I added a little of their yummy white sauce to it. The jalapeños were pretty hot as they were fresh sliced and I ended up taking them off. The Mac n cheese is pretty standard except they add a Parmesan crisp and a dusting of bbq seasoning. Hubby had the brisket plate and asked for it to be marbled and it certainly did not disappoint. Loved the ambiance and service at this place. As soon as you walk in it smells divine. The food was aesthetically appetizing and is nicely placed on the plate. However, as someone who has tried BBQ from Mississippi to Memphis to Nashville, it didn't make my "top favorite list". Overall my ribs were a bit too fatty and not much meat (not sure if it was just our cut). We tried the beans, coleslaw, and hatch chile grits. It was counter service and had a fast causal vibe but the food was fresh. The brisket was great , the beans were a bit soupy (which I enjoyed) and had bits of meat in it. We've been here probably 20 times in the last 3 months. It was our go to place for local BBQ. But today the 26 of October it was terrible. The brisket sandwich had too much fat in it. After a long day of traveling we found this place on Yelp. It was fairly close to our hotel. I am so glad we found it. The food was amazing . We got the sampler plate with a side of rosemary potato salad and jalapeño grits. The food was everything we were looking for. The brisket, pulled pork, chicken, ribs and sausage were cooked to perfection, tender and juice. The grits was one of the best I ever tried. They also had a nice variety of teas. I don't think any other bbq place has as much creativity as they have. The smoked bbq bowls are so good, I always go for the brisket bowl. Outstandingly joyful order taker, and my take out bag got to my seat almost before did. Seriously, the fastest I have ever been served food. The large servings of brisket and ribs were simple wonderful. The extra cup of mild and spicy sauces, plus the Moon Pie deserts set Hogwood above the rest. Since moving to Franklin one of our favorite BBQ spots is Hogwood. Privately owned not a chain. They take great care in how they smoke their meat and the quality of their meat is excellent. The brisket is smoked perfectly still very juicy with a dissolve in your mouth wow. They are a well trained staff and all is open for you to observe as they cut your serving's. Great side dishes as well. We like their tasty slaw and pickles. Highly recommend Hogwood- rumor has it they may serve their food in Leipers Fork soon. read more
