Hot Style Catfish, Okra, mashed potatoes, hush puppies and banana pudding
    Jim

Bishop's is my go to when craving a meat and 3 style lunch in Franklin. Many of the other meat and three style places have unfortunately gone by the wayside (Cool Cafe and Dotson's just to name a few). Being Friday, I knew catfish was one of the meats offered and I always order it made hot (like hot chicken hot). Okra and mashed potatoes rounded out this meal. Everything was seasoned well and tasted very good. It's cafeteria style so you get to choose from many sides. I've been coming to Bishop's occasionally for the past 12 years and I can say it is consistently very solid. Oh and don't pass on the banana pudding, it's made the old fashioned way. The pudding is a vanilla custard made from scratch not this trendy short cut box jello crap or sweetened condensed milk stuff. This tastes like your grandmother made it, not your new neighbor down the street.

Popular place and good food. Found they are part of the Hattie B's Hot Chicken franchise so that's a bonus. This is another one of the meat + 3 places that show up on all the places to try when in the area. My wife had the mild chicken tenders with black eyed peas and mac & cheese. She loved her food and the black eyed peas preparation (traditional with pepper vinegar). I had the fried chicken and dressing with gravy and the green beans. I loved the fried chicken. Done right. I didn't like the dressing as it was bland and mushy. Not flavorful at all. The green beans were decent. Our counter server was surly and didn't seem happy to be there so they lose a star for that. I really wanted to like this place but they can do better.

I've been curious about the concept of meat and three so I decided to try Bishop's. It's a cafeteria of southern food with massive portions at low prices. This spot was busy, even around 11am on a weekday! The staff was hustling to get through the line and we didn't wait long to order. The employees here were friendly and welcoming. We chose to take our food home, but there are tables if you prefer to dine in. Normally, I'd be a little worried about food safety with a cafeteria line. This spot is so busy and fresh food was constantly being put out on the line. It didn't look like any of the food was sitting for long. The meats and sides rotate by the day. The offerings by day are listed on their website. Plates can be ordered as meat only or meat plus one, two, or three sides. Veggies plates are an option. They even have a family meal option. Cobblers and pies are available for dessert. I would rate the food quality and taste at 3/5. The portions are generous for the price which is why I bumped to a 4/5. It's decent enough for a large, cheap meal. The Fried Chicken was good. It's not the best I've had, but good if you want something quick. The Chicken and Dumplings was good, a little on the soupier side. The sides were my favorite part. The Carrot Soufflé was my favorite with a sugary topping. The Squash Casserole had a nice taste. The Mashed Potatoes were creamy and buttery. The Green Beans had a nice texture and taste. Nothing here is going to be heavily seasoned, just simple flavors. The Pecan Pie was really good. I liked the crust and the flavor of the filling. The Banana Pudding was good, but not the best we've had. This is one of the few spots you'll still be able to get inexpensive takeout. A basic meal without breaking the bank!

Chess Pie is pretty good.. Everything was very good. Service was great. Overall good experience

Food Dry cornbread. Carrots souffle BANGIN! FRIED chicken seasoned well, crispy, moist. Fried okra good with a light batter. Service Ordered takeout and the food was ready at the expected time. Would try again, but am staying away from the cornbread.

Service was good but the food was meh. The ambiance was like a cafeteria and the tables were dirty. We had to ask someone to clean it up.

Hot chicken tenders with 1 side and cranberry sauce

I'm so glad this place was recommended to us. My husband was wanting some Nashville hot chicken. Although the spices on the hot chicken tenders were a bit overwhelming and more dry rub rather than a sauce that we were expecting, it still tasted good. My husband really liked the dressing with cranberry sauce. I just had regular chicken tenders and it was juicy, but the star of my plate was the sweet potatoes!! Best I've had. The jalapeño cornbread wasn't too dry and had a nice spice to it. Okra was cooked perfectly too. I could not believe how affordable they've been able to keep the price as well. The quality is worth more honestly, but don't tell them that so it stays affordable haha The place is small and at lunch time it was packed! Ao we ended up getting ours to go. Ordering is like a cafeteria style. Which I enjoy. I get to see how everything looks and decide if that's what I'm wanting or not. Service... perfect! The people here were so nice and all had a great personality. That's what will make you want to keep coming back. Unfortunately, we were only in the area for the weekend, but I I'll recommend this place to anyone visiting the area!

This is a really good meat and three restaurant in the Franklin area. This restaurant is associated with Hattie B's, so you can get Nashville hot chicken as well as other entrees such as pork chops, turkey and dressing, etc. Many hot sides and salads are on the menu, as well as an assortment of pies for dessert. I had the southern fried dark chicken quarter and it was some of the best fried chicken I have had in Tennessee. The mashed potatoes and green beans were good, but my favorite side was the fresh cucumber salad. My husband ordered Nashville chicken tenders, so he had a short wait for his food, but it came out hot and fresh. He enjoyed macaroni and cheese and a slice of chess pie with his meal. With friendly service and good food, we will look forward to visiting Bishop's again when we are in Franklin.

This place was 10/10 no questions asked. We had a large party, so we pretty much had the whole menu. There is nothing I wouldn't order again. The place was clean and neat. The prices were so reasonable

Shared a Meat & Three Plate (this is my half): Mac & Cheese, Fish Almondine, Pinto Beans, Carrot Soufflé & Roll!

Great food and even greater service. The restaurant clean and the food is amazing. The Hattie B's Hot Chicken is the absolute best.

Our group decided to sit in the common area so everyone could grab food from different restaurants. I ordered the Tri-Star platter, which came with pulled pork, brisket, and pulled chicken. All three meats were tender and flavorful. Don't be shy with the BBQ sauce, it really takes everything to the next level. The platter comes with two sides. I chose one vegetable, baked beans, and one fruit, banana pudding. For those not from the South, macaroni and cheese is considered a vegetable, and banana pudding is absolutely a fruit. That's just science around here! The meal also included cornbread and slaw, making for a hearty plate of food. Everything was very good, portions were generous, and the service was excellent. It's a counter service joint; you walk up, order, and then someone runs the food to your table. First off, they asked for a point of service tip; that bugs me when I'm ordering my own food at the counter and fetching my own drinks. The menu is fairly standard for a southern BBA joint; brisket, pulled pork, ribs, turkey, chicken. I am generally suspicious of any place that offers chopped brisket. Brisket is meant to be sliced and enjoyed as a slab of meat, not as a pile of hash. So, the chopped brisket sandwich was out for me. I asked if the brisket platter would be served as slices, and they assured me it was, so I ordered brisket with two sides. They recommended the beans and the Mac 'n cheese, so that's what I went with. They also asked me if I wanted the meat lean, marbled, or half and half; I took that as a good sign, and asked for marbled. They food came out in about 5 mins; just enough time for me to head to the soda fountain and fill my own cup. Maybe they should tip me? On the plus side, the portions were pretty large. I'm guessing that the served at least 6-8 ounces of brisket, and the individual sides were pretty large as well. On the other hand, whoever sliced the brisket simply didn't know what they were doing. They sliced it WITH the grain, producing slices full of stringy meat. Stringy meat that was hard to cut with the plastic cutlery provided. I find it hard to believe that anyone who regularly serves BBQ brisket doesn't know to cut the meat against the grain. The meat appeared to feature a nice bark; however, on further exploration, a) the bark was so tough that it couldn't be cut as all with the plastic cutlery, and b) when I tore into it with my fingers and ate a piece, it had no taste. Not even a basic Texas salt and pepper rub could be detected. A large portion of tasteless, poorly cut meat does no one any favors. The beans were a little underdone; IMHO, that's far better than mushy, overcooked beans. However, they, too, had no flavor. No spice, nada. The mac and cheese was shells in a white cheese sauce. Strike 3; zero flavor for the sauce. I don't know how you can make cheese sauce without flavor, but they managed to do so. I have never, ever thrown as much food away at a a BBQ joint than I did today. What a shame. Not recommended, not even a little bit. Try Martin's or Edley's; if you prefer a chain, Mission BBQ will do you much better than Hogwood.

The set up is counter service and table delivery, with self serve drink and sauce stations. The space is well laid out and features an open kitchen/prep area where all the goods are and the fun happens with chopping meats, prep, etc... Their menu is fairly standard for a BBQ spot, but the quality is far from standard. I was not expecting much more than a decently tasty lunch, but what I got was tender and juicy chicken, equally juicy and cheese stuffed sausage that has an impressive snap, a lightly dressed, crisp and refreshing slaw and an Alabama white sauce that may be my favorite I have ever had! Price point is a tad high, but honestly after the meal, I get it. I paid around $20 for the two meat sampler with a side and water to drink. Service was stellar here as well. From entry to food delivery to exit, everyone I encountered was helpful, friendly and seemed genuinely happy. Overall, big fan of Hogwood BBQ at this point!
