If I could, I would give Thompson's Kitchen 10 stars! From the service to the dessert and EVERYTHING in between was quite honestly the best of the best of the best! The welcoming old charm meets 2025 was inviting and comfortable . The shrimp dip and halloumi appetizers were delicious! The gorgonzola grilled chicken, pomegranate brisket and acorn squash entrees were packed with fabulous flavor, aesthetically beautiful and served in hearty quantities. And the dessert.....! The bread pudding with fresh whipped cream was an eye-rolling, melt in your mouth, can't get enough delicacy! Fantastic chef! All of the above wonderful-ness was topped by Stacey... the absolutely kindest man to ever provide restaurant hospitality. From his culinary knowledge of the menu, his professional attentiveness to our table and his kind, gentle personal interactions left us with a mind blown experience! First time there, walked in and thought what a cute place. Atmosphere great. Stacy the server was kind when we sat down. Said beer and wine were on happy hour and that he would give us a 10 minute warning when it was going to expire. Great! So I ordered a Chard, (wine, right?). Stacy never came back to remind us happy hour was coming up (no big deal). Ordered another Chard. Hey, a 5 dollar glass of wine always taste better. Got the bill for 2 glasses at 36 dollars. Kindly asked him why as I had 1 glass on happy hour. He said "Oh, Chard is not on happy hour, sorry". I said to him politely, "You didn't tell me that Chard was not part of it". He said, "oh, sorry, I probably should have" and he was a bit condescending.......and just walked away. It's not the money. He should have made it right. But didn't. First off- the good- I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE most of everything I've tried here. However, I just came back from a lunch here with my husband. We both got water, a salad and an entree each. Our bill was $75 for lunch before tip and we were STILL HUNGRY.... I'm a thin 37 year old female. I don't eat a lot normally. I shouldn't pay $37.50 for just food and leave still hungry. Thompsons Kitchen has been in this spot a little over 2 years. I had been to this location previously when it was another establishment and the interior is basically the same. Server was friendly and efficient. I ordered the Burger, which comes with a nice dollop of Pimento cheese, Bacon Jam, Comeback Sauce, add some pickles and serve it on a nice bun, accompanied by a bag of chips: but they were hen of the woods sea salt, nicely flavored chips! The burger was cooked perfectly and that Bacon Jam worked so well with the pimento cheese. Since it was an occasion, we splurged for dessert and ordered the Kahlua Chocolate cake with a Coulis of Strawberry and Blackberry, that worked well with the cake and the whipped cream. Had a most wonderful lunch at The Thompsons Kitchen! Impeccable service, warm and inviting staff and atmosphere. The entire space is so beautifully and cleverly decorated with repurposed doors, windows, panels, antique cash register... Then there is the menu! It was difficult to select just one entree! They are very knowledgeable about Celiac disease and the restrictions. Almost everything on the menu could be modified. I had their stuffed winter squash and tasted some of the shrimp tacos. Both were exceptionally delicious and beautifully presented. Desert was a boozy chocolate brownie with raspberry gelato! Wow-you gotta try this place. It's the authentic local experience you cannot find anymore. We were there on a Saturday evening for a special occassion and we had a truly remarkable experience. Homey, yet sophisticated. Family-friendly, yet great for a date night. Creative and crafty and comforting all at once. I started with the Prsociutto Fig salad, which was both light and hearty, and also rich and flavorful. Creamy goat cheese, sweet figs, and savory prosciutto combine to make for a wonderful start to the meal. You won't go wrong with any of the entrees...seven people, seven choices, everyone very pleased. I had the Kaluha Pig with Johnny Cake, which looks diminuative when it arrives, but will take you down. It's a great option if smoky flavors are what you seek. Alternatively, the brisket is a great option if you want a sweet, savory, delicious combination. As for desserts, yes. Don't dither about it, get what appeals and end on a high note. We had practically every option among us, and they were all epic--lemon curd, brownie tower, bread pudding, apple crisp. Being a Saturday night, there was also live music. Best kept secret in all of Middle Tennessee! Not only are the owners the most delightful husband/wife team, but the entire staff and environment couldn't be more welcoming and warm. The food is five star as well as their signature cocktails. We go at least a few times a month and I truly couldn't pick a favorite menu item. This place was recommended by a coworker and when I checked the website I noticed they had an Easter brunch. My mom's birthday is the 16th and we had a birthday dinner the weekend before so I thought an Easter brunch would be a good birthday treat. Brunch was $45 per person pre paid (with $5 from each ticket going to charity) when you made the reservation and the menu looked interesting and was to be served family style. We arrived for our reservation and I had to wait a few moments for someone to notice I was there. Mom was waiting at the wheelchair door so she would not have to walk for a long distance. We were promptly seated nearby and waited for a good 5 minutes for a waiter to come take our drink orders. We were then informed that everything was included in our ticket except for alcohol. We were then served 2 deviled eggs which were fantastic. When the waiter returned, we said we would both like another, but were told that was the only thing we could not get more of. We were bummed, but it was fine. Next came out the rest of the meal. Cheesy eggs, French toast with strawberry cream cheese and syrup, 4 pieces of bacon, some duck fat home fries, and fruit salad. It was all...fine. Basic breakfast food. The strawberry cream cheese was something else, but the French toast was cold and floppy, the eggs were soft scrambled with a little bit of cheese, the bacon was bacon, and the fruit was fine. Nothing to write home about and not worth the price. It's not that it was bad AT ALL, but I feel like I could have easily made everything on my plate, which is not what I want from a restaurant. I will give it another chance with the regular menu. I was hoping it would be fabulous and we could go back for Mother's Day brunch, but no such luck. read more

The NOT terrible part: We live in the middle of nowhere so having a place this nice, this close, is fantastic. The Terrible part: We live in the middle of nowhere....which makes this place also in the middle of nowheresville Fairview, Tn...putting it almost an hour any direction from the typical clientele that would frequent an establishment of this caliber...ultimately I fear the location will inevitably be the downfall of this restaurant. Which would be a shame considering that this place easily has Franklin or downtown nashville quality cuisine and vibe. It also has an appropriately priced revolving menu and live music on the weekends. Yes I will be going back and yes I hope this place remains open as long as possible...just not hopeful solely based on location....so ultimately I'm telling anyone reading this to take the journey, and give this place enough of your business to prove me wrong...please. read more

The only draw back is that all items are a la carte which is fine for adults but adds up quickly if you were to have multiple kids with you. We had a delightful meal with superb service this evening at Thompson's Table! Faith was our server and was very attentive and hospitable. We had 2 appetizers and 2 entrées. Too full for dessert, we opted for a cappuccino. Everything was delicious and I appreciate numerous GF options. Our appetizer board was not the standard charcuterie with salami, and instead featured duck pastrami. Not a huge duck fan, but this style of duck was fabulous! Whipped Italian cheese and chowchow was such a little world palate dance of flavors. Our main dishes were the Gnocchi (husband's dish) and Crawfish with cream(mine-GF served over rice instead of pasta). No skimping on the crawfish and the flavor was fantastic! I rarely am super pleased with a cappuccino, but their version was perfect and had a "clean taste." It was not masked with false flavors or syrups. Found this Gem on a quick trip to Harper's area just outside Nashville. This is the best little electric place we have found in a while. Take a day trip! One of the owners came out by our table, struck up a conversation. We loved his story. He brought us out an appetizer that was delectable. We had an excellent meal tonight! Service was great and food came out quickly. At our table of 6, we had whipped feta and shrimp dip for appetizers. For main course, we had pulled pork and Johnny cakes (sound simple but sooo good!), pork belly, crawfish pasta, and Gorgonzola burger. Everything was great! For dessert, we had the brownie stack and the bread pudding which absolutely melts in your mouth. Add some excellent cocktails (don't miss the espresso martini!) and you have a perfect meal! The wine list is slim, but there's a decent bourbon list and great cocktails! Great after dinner drinks and coffee selection also! There was live music playing too! Thompsons Kitchen...Southern (Roots) Toots, Global (Flavor) Failure Dined at Thompson's tonight, Fairview's answer to fine dining. As a Nashville and Williamson county native (yes, there are actually some of us still around), I grew up visiting family friends in Fairview and eventually married one. Fairview holds a special place in my heart, and as much as the landscape has changed and evolved over the years, it still possesses the quiet charm and salt-of-the-earth people it always has. With the arrival of big box retailers, fast food restaurants, and Californians, Fairview has experienced rising property taxes, soaring per acre prices and disappearing undeveloped land. Still, it's managed to hang onto its unassuming charm through all of this growth. Then two interlopers breeze into town. Per the website, the owner/chef and his wife are well-traveled, thought Fairview needed an elevated dining establishment, and thought they were just the ones to bring it to them. Well, that's all fine and dandy, save for a couple of issues: 1) The only thing harder than the most uncomfortable chairs I've maybe ever sat in at a restaurant was finding a menu item that sounded good. The menu is somehow both cumbersome and underwhelming at once. Appetizers, salads, sandwiches, entrees and even a kids' menu are among the offerings but they're just trying too dang hard. While traveling the world, they learned phrases such as "elevated" and "outside the box," which is fantastic, but you don't have to elevate every single thing. It's ok for a burger to just be a burger. And for goodness sake, ketchup doesn't need to be doctored. It's ketchup. Just let it do its thing. 2) If you're going to have a bunch of fancy pants items on the menu, expect that patrons will likely request accommodations and be willing to acquiesce to the reasonable requests. If I don't want pimento cheese on my burger, please don't roll your eyes when I ask for it to be left off and maybe have some normal toppings available. A member of our party asked what came on the burger. The server replied, "pickles, comeback sauce, bacon jam, and pimento cheese." My friend asked if she could get tomato and lettuce. She was told no and requested just pickles, but when her burger was delivered (well after the rest of our party received their food), it was slathered in whatever "comeback sauce" is. Because they assigned our server to other tables during our party of 14's meal, his visits were more spread out than they should have been for a party of our size. Drinks ran low and after having waited too long for her sandwich to come out initially, there was no time or use in sending it back once she did get it. Also, they may have traveled the world, collecting recipes and studying technique, but if they're going to have something called "smash burger" on the menu, I'd suggest taking a trip to Steak n' Shake to learn how a smash burger should really look and taste. 3) For $15, we ordered the "whipped feta" appetizer. A bowl arrived with a small scoop of whipped feta, a spoonful of cranberry jelly dolloped on top, and, per the menu, some "microgreens" which were really just garnish doing what garnish does: getting in the way. This was served with four slices of grilled sourdough bread that had spent a little too long on the grill and then suffered a heavy-handed olive oil application. It tasted like what I would imagine licking the grill cleaning brush would taste like. 4) The pricing was probably the most palatable element of the evening with one exception. Their daily specials included an item that seemed wildly out of place and even more outlandishly priced. Their take on Steak Frites - a 16-oz Cowgirl Steak, House Made Sweet Potato Fries, Kenny's Smoked Bleu Cheese Compound Butter and Horseradish cream - was priced at $70. Seventy! That is 232% higher than the next most expensive menu item. For steak and fries....the crowd-pleasing menu staple, traditionally priced around $25 to match its "aww, shucks" "everyman" persona. If I wanted to pay $70 for a steak dinner, you'd better believe it wouldn't be at this establishment. Nashville boasts some of the best steakhouses this side of the Mason/Dixon. Hard pass. 5) I haven't heard the word "no" so much since a middle school dance I chaperoned. Several in our party made requests - lettuce and tomato on a burger, leaving an unwanted sauce off, a candle for a birthday dessert they brought out, request to substitute a side - and each was met with a firm, unyielding declination. Summary: It's refreshing that it's not another Mexican restaurant or fast food joint. So definitely A for effort. The atmosphere is adequate. They accept reservations, which is nice. But nothing I put in my mouth wowed me or made me want more - tonight or ever again. And the service just tipped the experience as there was an underlying current of "I'm bothered" hiding just under the forced smile. Grade: C- read more
