Nashville may quietly be an underrated barbecue mecca. You've got the Jack Cawthon's legendary Jack's Bar-B-Que, pitmaster Carey Bringle's incomparable Bringle's Smokin' Oasis, and then you have Edley's. For the longest time, Bringle's was my absolute favorite in town, but Edley's may have just managed to take the crown. I almost feel like I'm cheating on Mr. Bringle by saying that, but as he famously put it, "You don't have to hate somebody else's barbecue to like mine." My default order at any top-tier joint is either a brisket plate or a multi-meat combo platter with brisket as the anchor. Edley's plates come properly equipped with two sides and a slice of cornbread. Where they really set themselves apart, though, is the menu flexibility: -The Add-Ons: You can throw on a $5 upcharge to add an extra 3 oz of meat or a jalapeño cheddar smoked sausage. -Burnt Ends: Edley's offers burnt ends, which is a bit of a rarity in town and something you don't easily find over at Jack's or Bringle's. If they're available when you order, grab them. Price-wise, Edley's isn't cheap, but it's far from overly expensive. It sits at fair market value, costing roughly what you'd pay for a comparable meal at any of the other major players in Nashville. The meats are high quality, wonderfully smoked, and packed with deep flavor. Beyond the rare burnt ends, the sauces here are what truly elevate the meal. Across the board, Edley's house sauces--from their classic red to their white sauce--are probably my personal favorites in the city. Between Jack's, Bringle's Smokin' Oasis, and Edley's, you genuinely cannot go wrong--Nashville barbecue is in great hands. But right now? Edley's holds my top spot. It is my ultimate "treat yourself" meal in town. read more

There are at least four Edley's locations. We ordered from the 12th avenue south location. Full disclosure, this was takeout for a large office group. I had the brisket tacos, which were flavorful, though a little dry. I am giving grace here because it was takeout and possibly was much more moist prior to transport. I did like how the toppings brightened things up: cheese, slaw, pico de Gallo, bean salad, and fried jalapeños. I also had the Nashville hot link, a smoked sausage with house made spicy pimento cheese and pickled jalapeños. It was indeed pleasantly spicy. We shared some fries, which were hot, crisp, and well seasoned. They also have ribs, wings, bbq nachos and fries, fried pickles, bbq chicken and turkey, various sandwiches and platters. They also offer Nashville's staple hot chicken in platter, sandwich, and taco form. Catfish is another option, in all the same varieties. Sides: cornbread, Mac & cheese, baked beans, green beans (in bone broth and bacon). Cold sides such as bean salad, potato salad, Cole slaw. They also have a couple desserts and salads available, as well as a kids menu. Very affordable, as we got meals for 15 people for only 230 dollars. read more

I had the pulled pork sandwich and Mac and cheese and green beans. The pork was super juicy and flavorful I enjoyed it. The bbq sauce the comes with it was also good. The sides were kind of meh. The green beans tasted like they were from a can and I think the noodles for my Mac and cheese were too firm. But it was still good. I'd go again just get different sides. Service is always stellar, they got the food out in a timely manner and the servers are consistently helpful and kind. The food was a hit, everything was hot and flavorful. Smoked meats galore served here! Edley's is one of my top two favorite BBQ places that I enjoyed while in Tennessee (the other is Hunt's BBQ). This place is perfect. It has great food, ambiance, staff and seating. This location on 12th South is the one to visit. There is a line but it moves quickly. Once you order, you find a seat and they bring your food out when it's ready. We shared a Ribs and Brisket platter and chose mac n cheese and the grits casserole as our sides. The large piece of cornbread was light and fluffy and a great compliment to the meal. The ribs were cooked right and the meat tender and not dry. The brisket had the iconic smoke ring along the edges and was delicious. The meats were smoked and the entire restaurant smelled heavenly. I liked the grits casserole and mac n cheese sides as well. Everything just clicked at this place. Before leaving, I bought a few of their rubs and a BBQ sauce from their centrally located gift shop area to take home and enjoy. While on a business trip in the area we came across this barbeque spot via yelp. It seems like a trendy place with parking in the neighborhood for nominal fee and seating indoor or outside patio. After looking over the menu and a little assistance from the friendly cashier I chose the barbeque beef brisket nachos. The draw back was it was crumbs seeming left over or that falls as a result of cutting the brisket. I was not totally fond of the brisket crumbs that were hard pieces or scrapes. Tried this alone on a wednesday night. As a Memphis resident, I like to say I know barbeque. I was surprised that Nashville has some pretty good bbq. I got a platter with sausage, brisket, and burnt ends with cornbread, mac and cheese, and banana pudding. The brisket was tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. 5 stars. The banana pudding was delicious as well, which is strange because I usually don't love banana. The mac and cheese was great but not anything exceptional. Same with the sausage. I was somewhat disappointed by the burnt ends. They were dry and not as sweet as any other burnt ends i've had. The cornbread was fine. The service was fast, and all the waiters were nice enough at least to make me feel welcome. I always feel like BBQ is supposed to be cheap. It's designed to make bad cuts of meat into good food for people who couldn't afford prime rib or filet. With that in mind, my $35 bill was way too high. The food is amazing! We enjoyed the Catfish Sandwich and the BBQ Turkey Platter. We placed our orders at the counter and were given a number to take to our table. The hot meals were delivered within ten minutes on a busy Sunday evening. I am obsessed with Catfish when I visit the Midwest/ Southern States. The Catfish Sandwich had a special tartar sauce and plenty of coleslaw on the fish. We loved every bite! The Turkey Platter came with several pieces of turkey, coleslaw, mac & cheese plus pickles. The smoked turkey was thinly sliced and full of flavor. It was juicy and tender...just perfect. The spicy, sharp and tangy barbecue sauce was great on the turkey. The restaurant has a bit of an open concept. The garage style doors open onto their outside patio bringing the outdoors inside. We selected the outside patio because the music was a bit loud for our taste and we wanted to be able to converse. It was a bit cold this evening so we did ask for the patio heaters to be turned on. We were told they could only put them on low. We were cold and could not feel the heaters. The meal would have been much more enjoyable in a warmer environment. Got the sampler platter to share and enjoyed a variety of meats and sides, all of which were tasty and perfectly complimented by the fried pickles (one of my favorite appetizers). We ordered a mix of things: A Full Rack of St Louis Ribs: They were tender and juicy with very good flavor. I am a rib guy and these were for sure my favor of the meat. 18 Smoked Wings: I also very much enjoy Smoked Wings so these were also very good. Pulled Pork Platter: You really can't go wrong with it it's a classic. We also got a couple of sides but one really stood out above them all and that was the Grit Casserole. While visiting Nashville for work, I was exhausted and could only muster the strength to scroll Uber Eats. As the evening grew later, my options were limited. I continued to look and went back to my cart to remove Edley's and just figured I'd try anyway. The order went through - Salad with Smoked Brisket. What was I doing ordering brisket AND a salad at closing time. My expectations were low. I watched the app as they prepared the order (quickly) and the driver (also quickly) arrived to pick it up. Upon opening the bag, I expected the worse of all things. Closing time, a BBQ restaurant that I've never eaten at and salad. Not exactly the recipe for success. The salad was one of the best salads that I've ever had - fresh, select greens, firm veggies, delicious croutons.. I thought "ok, at least the salad is good, if the brisket isn't ". I opened the foil to find 2 nicely sized slices of brisket. I couldn't help but to notice how subtle but effective the smoke profile was. The more of it I ate, the more I could tell that it was smoky and tender and just flat out solid! My expectations were greatly exceeded. I even reached out to a manager (I don't remember the gentleman's name) to tell him of the great job his closing staff did on preparing the salad and the brisket. To start, let me just say that I'm from Texas, The restaurant itself has a really great vibe and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I also love the area here as it's surrounded by a handful of boutiques and other local restaurants. However, let me get to the one disappointing part of the meal. I have to admit that I heard a lot about Edley's from locals, specifically Paul Kuharsky. Iykyk, anyways...the brisket was not juicy and was quite dry. The BBQ sauce was much needed and had to overpower the dry brisket to get a great taste. The Mac n cheese + cornbread was great though. The Nashville hot chicken was really good as well. Regardless, the brisket was a real disappointment. It was not tender or juicy. It required a bit of effort to come apart. read more

We ordered ribs and hot chicken tacos and both were delicious in their own way. I thought the tacos were a unique way have hot chicken as usually its a sandwich or platter. If you only have one BBQ meal in Nashville, let it be the burnt ends on grits from Edley's--seriously, my mouth waters just thinking about those delicious morsels. They also have Shirley Temple on tap, which was a nice surprise! The brisket sandwich was just okay--not bad, but a little less tender than I expected, probably because the burnt ends are saved for the other dish. Still flavorful though, especially with their yummy BBQ sauce. Oh and the fries are super good, banana pudding was yummy also! The cashier was a sweetheart, the space was clean and spacious, and even though we arrived right at opening, there was already a line out the door by the time we left. I really loved this spot--and the whole 12 South neighborhood. If you're short on time in Nashville, Broadway is fun, but make time for this strip and definitely stop by Edley's.
