Best burgers you will ever have. I cannot recommend the Big Dick Burger enough with an extra side of Dick Sauce and large fires. I came to Gainesville for two years as a student at UF. There's nothing particularly bad about Dick Mondell's but I don't think the food is nearly good enough to offset the prices and environment. The service is on the slow side, with my longest wait time being 25 minutes for one original burger and fries (with not much of a line to speak of). The drive thru blocks traffic by spilling out onto the street if there are more than 3 cars waiting, and you're better using the parking lot across the street. The Dick's sauce that comes with the burger is okay and the fries are good. My favorite menu item is the creamsicle shake, but I don't think a milkshake that small should cost $5. Compared to other restaurants in the downtown area, I would not recommend it. You can get a bigger, better, and cheaper burger at other places around town. read more

So I was skeptical at first about this place because it looked like a knock off of Macs burgers. My first impression was that it was a little pricey. $8 for a double cheeseburger with 4oz patties. After fries and a drink it was $13. It took a little longer to get the food than I expected but once I did everything changed. This was a giant sloppy delicious hot mess of a burger. This past Saturday I decided to go to Dick Mondell's Burgers and Fries. I had not yet been to the location and since I was running errands in the neighborhood, I decided to give it a go! I arrived on Saturday a few minutes after 11 when they opened. I was shocked to see how small the lot of this place was. I was more shocked that my car had to block traffic on the street just to get in the drive thru line and that it was not bigger. When I got up to the area to order I ordered an Original Burger and large fries. I found the burger to be good, but I wish it had cheese on it. I also wish there was a sign that said that you needed to ask for cheese. The burger you could tell was cooked fresh and had a lot of great flavor. The fries here were wonderful. I got the large fries and it was not very big, but it still tasted really good. The fries were fresh and had the right amount of salt on them. I really liked the fries. Overall the price here is kinda steep. They do not have a combo meal here which is really sad. I think it would be better with a combo. The price for a Burger and a Large fries, without a drink came out to well over $11 with tax. I thought this place was just okay overall. The food we got was rather good, but it wasn't quite what we ordered. We had gotten two burgers, small tots, large fries, and a shake. The counter lady read us back our order correctly. When our food came we had two orders of tots. It took so long for us to get our food that we didn't want to have it fixed so I never did get to try the fries. For reference to how long ours took, our friends who ordered 5 minutes before us had finished all their food and shakes well before we were called and we saw two individuals who ordered after us receive their food first. Where else can you walk up to a burger joint and say, "I want to big dick," or "I want 2 big dicks," or "I want to big ol' bag of dicks?" You can do that at Dick Mondell's because that is the premise of their marketing. It is good, and it is fun, and I had a blast teasing guys in the line about putting a big dick in their mouths. It is a cute marketing idea that goes right up to the edge and maybe a bit over what is generally considered public okay. Enough said? Unfortunately, the fun stops when you stop saying dick. The Big Dick was dry, even when covered in Dick's Sauce. The burger was dry, the bun was dry, and then the bun was oddly grilled making it even dryer. They say the meat is locally sourced, which is great, but it had a texture to it that was curious. It lacked quality meat texture and flavor. It just did not have the taste and feel of good quality ground beef. I think they need to decide if they are going to make a real burger or a fast food burger, because right now it is not fulfilling either comfort need. The fries are worse than the burgers. The fries should have been called, "useless dicks," because they were cold and limp, and very salty. The fries they served us were unable to satisfy anyone. A bright spot was the vegetarian options. There is a burger called the "Impossible burger," which I assure you is entirely possible in that it is like average vegie burgers, it is only as good at bun and toppings, and the bun was, as already mentioned stale, dry, and oddly grilled which made it feel even dryer going into your mouth. The promise and possibility that the impossible burger would live up to its moniker, and justify its whopping $10 dollar price pulled me in, but I wish now that I had ordered the house made vegie burger instead. My husband and I had a lot of fun playing in line with random people, adults, riffing dick puns. My husband is a punny guy, and he gets into it and gets out there, but he edits my sexual word play in these reviews. Tell him to stop next time you see him. I am funny too! He edits it out. I edit out his over the top stuff (because it is over the top and he needs checks and balance) but I think he edits my stuff because he is jealous of how funny I am! And what is weird about that is that I should be the one arguing that the name Dick Mondell's is over the line, and I am not. He is! There are racist aspects to human sexuality and the language that helps code it on the down low. A "Mondell" is a highly sexual black male who takes a lot of steroids, and grows very large at the cost of his testicles. While my husband is technically right, it is a slur that perpetuates the over sexualization of black people, I think his argument is overreacting. I think he is overreacting because he just finished watching the 6-part R Kelly documentary. This week he is a "me too" burger with Malcolm X sauce. So, Dick Mondell's is a new burger stand with less than stellar burgers, but good vegetarian options. Their prices seem out of line with Gainesville fast food burgers, and their marketing is questionable. That is all you really need to know. read more

Man, if you have not gone downtown to eat a big dick then you don't know what you're missing. These fresh from Florida beef burgers are pretty dang good. The burger has a half pound of beef and some extras. The meat was cooked well and not dry. The fries where good as well. We ended up going back for another order becuase we liked them so much. They do have non meat items but I didn't have any besides the fries. The milkshake has good flavor but was too thin for my taste. I thought about deducting a star for this but it's not doesn't seem right. Milkshakes can be made many different ways and this one is made a bit thin. My favorite burger in Gainesville. I got their Turkey burger fairly often and my girlfriend gets the veggie burger and we loved it. This is a really great burger spot that is walkable from a lot of downtown offices. It's a cute little walk up restaurant with outdoor seating. They have veggie burgers, chicken burgers, and beef burgers and serve interesting sides like sweet potato tater tots, not only regular fries. I had a beef burger with all of the toppings and it was YUMMY! Their house sauce is SO GOOD I will probably ask for extra on the side next time. And Dick's Sauce! Definitely try Dick's Sauce! It's a vegan twist on fry sauce aka Argentinian golf sauce,salsa rosado (pink sauce), mayochup, you know, that catsup-mayo condiment for dipping fries and more often fried yuca and plaintains. Dick's Sauce is a little lighter than the normal fry sauce and good on everything--burgers, tots, and salad included. I do have one wish if Dick is listening, that Dick's offers a gluten-free veggie burger. The location is currently just off the beaten track, but across the street is a developing food hall with Opus Coffee, Humble Wood Fire pizza, Cilantro Taco, and Fehrenbacher's Artisan Sausage. I didn't really know what to expect when I went here for lunch today. It's kind of close to downtown but also right next to an apartment complex so it seems a little random. Speaking of, parking is a little difficult there but we were able to park at the barber's shop across the street. We tried the original burger, fries and a vanilla milkshake and I was pleasantly surprised by all of it! Everything was yummy and tasted very fresh. The people were extremely friendly and helpful. After a nice walk from Depot to Boulware Springs and back, my wife and I decided to try Dick's for the first time. The weather was beautiful so we hoped to order at the window and eat at the picnic tables. We couldn't find parking so opted for the drive-thru. The line wasn't long. We waited for a little while for the burgers to be made. It gave us a chance to observe the staff. The interior seemed very clean and I saw some really thorough hand washing. We took our food to a nearby green space and enjoyed the meal. We order one big Dick and one little Dick. The meat tasted fresh. I forgot to order cheese on mine, but really liked the addition of the sauce. We ordered fries and tots and both were good though both of us preferred the fries. We also ordered the greens and grains salad and were impressed by the quality of the greens. The dressing lacked some flavor and could have used something more. Finally, we split a cookie and it was good. It's vegan, and I didn't miss the dairy. I would have given a 4.5 if that was an option. First off, let me say this is a fantastic play on words and the high school grade humor in naming their burgers "dick" offers quite a few chuckles. I like the location and that the restaurant is walk up or drive thru only. The lack of a huge parking lot makes the place more neighborhood friendly. It reminds me of Hungry Bear in Ocala, but more chain-y. We went through the drive thru and waited about 8-10 minutes for our food, but I think this is reasonable and comparable to Steak n Shake as they also make your food to order. So, on to the food... Overall I'd say the food is slightly overpriced for what it is. I ordered the Big Dick with cheese and bacon, fries, and a coffee shake. I wish the dick sauce was offered on the side or had more presence on the burger because I couldn't really taste it. Also the bun left the burger lacking, it would taste way better with a homemade bun or a bun with more substance. The coffee shake was delicious and very creamy. This time around the Donburi Boys hit Dick Mondell's, craving that big BEEF. I ordered my burger with no Dick sauce however my partner, Big T, opted in. We enjoyed our food in the open-air seating area and although toasty, the sweet tea was on point. Fries! Big T thought the patty itself was like the damn dead sea, salty as hell, although we do concede this could've been secondary to the Dick sauce. We agree with our colleague Yanan L. that these burgers were some hefty boys. Overall, this is a good fast food burger and would return. Dick's brought us in with the promise of the famous impossible burger, but we stayed for friendly employees, a fun casual 50's atmosphere, and vegan options! *Praise to the baker baker vegan cookie gods*. (Very important for a house of strict vegans.) Dick's makes up for some of the no-frills attitudes, like the lack of toppings options or no indoor seating- which some people may be put off by, with a perfectly crafted burger that is clearly someone's secret family recipe. Great location, novel idea, and just what the area needed. It's a great place to get your classic burger and fries. The menu might not appear to have a ton of options, but that does not hold it back from having something for everyone. What makes it even better is that the key ingredients are sourced locally. When I eat here, I feel like I am supporting not just whoever came up with the great idea for this joint, but also the several local suppliers contributing their products. Such a fun new spot in town! What to appeared to be a greasy burger turned out to be not as greasy as appeared. Simple and well put together. I think that cheese should be offered per order, especially when there are no descriptions. I also tried the French Fries. They were mediocre., nothing too crazy about the texture, however.... FLAKE SALT!! Instead of a source grated salt, the salt on the fries is flakey. It totally adds more flavor to the fry, as well as it's appearance. Overall, Locally sourced, with the vegan options and I'm impressed ! I can't wait to try their shakes, cookies and salad! 10/10 will recommend and will most definitely be back!
