Tacos

Okay I've lived in Gainesville for 8 years. Why it's taken me this long to try Muñecas I have no clue. Absolutely LOVED their bowls. Tacos were a hit. Portions are decent but could leave a little to be desired. Pro tip: this is one of the only places I have seen sell a pup bowl for the puppers. Sit inside, on their patio, or anywhere in the outdoor garden area. Will be going back!

Seabass curry

I went here for lunch and loved the food and the vibes. I like that you can sit outside at fourth Ave and Muecas has delicious food and a variety to choose from. I got the curry with the daily catch, which was Seabass. It was so delicious and such a good size portion. My sister got a bowl which is always promising and their tacos are also delicious!! The service was also good. I want to go back and try their daily specials and Sunday brunch!!

We popped in for brunch on a Sunday. The surrounding places were busy but Munecas wasn't, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered at the counter and seated ourselves while we they prepared our food. We also ordered a Bloody Mary from the bar while we waited. Everything was prepared quickly and turned out to be delicious and filling. I had to get a to-go box. The restaurant was clean and the staff members were attentive and friendly. We definitely had a great experience and would go back again!

Create your own bowl was solid :)

Solid place to go for some interesting Mexican and Asian fusion food! I got the create your own bowl and was quite happy with it. The flavors and ingredients are solid. Really fresh vegetables, solid spicy Mayo sauce, and good cook on the chicken. Definitely makes for a good backup option if you find yourself getting bored of Moe's or Chipotle. People working here are great and the ambiance is very chill and relaxed, exactly the type of place you want to be on a Friday evening. The only thing is I felt the portion sizes were a tad on the small side for the price you pay. But aside from that, great spot! If you're still hungry, just hop on over next door for a slice of pizza lol

Chicken tacos (add guac)

Definitely could become a regular here! Lots of variety with style, toppings, and proteins. Got chicken tacos since it felt like a standard options for my first visit. So fresh and lots of flavor in every bite. I liked how you order at the counter and sit wherever (inside or out). Pretty busy but the food still came out fast. Live music on the Saturday I was there too!

came here after the no kings protest and it was really great! i love community!!!!!!!!!!!! yay!!!!! but they have really great food here! i tried the chicken burrito with chimichurri sauce! (THEY HAD CHIMICHURRI!!!!!) really really yummy tasting i loved it! please go here!!!!!!!!!!!

Moqueca (with fish) - would order again and again!

Enjoyed lunch at Muneca's today. The moqueca was delicious, featuring a balanced curry; savory from the curry, sweet from coconut milk, a hint of brightness from lime and cilantro and crunch from the peanuts. The staff are helpful and courteous. Outdoor seating is ideal in the beautiful Florida "winter" weather.

Nice open kitchen!

I was delighted to see a full jazz band playing at the Bo Diddley Plaza! I stopped for some grub, and ended up getting the pork nachos with a side of black beans and a limonada! The nachos were good with the cilantro sauce, and it was a nice meal! I was hoping for some hot sauce, but none was to be seen. I didn't ask, but I am thinking hot sauce and nachos are like peanut butter and jelly. They should have hot sauces for us to enjoy. The limonada with lavender added was way too sweet! I really could have gotten a cup of water and diluted it down, to make it more palatable. It was just a 16 oz cup, but it rasted like a 1/3 cup of sugar was in my drink! Be careful not to get brain freeze, as the ice in the limonada was actually nice, but be careful. No hot sauce, too sweet lemonade, but everything else was good.

Cute spot good music decent service. Food doesn't taste the best- just not good but not bad. Would not order again. Queso and chips too salty kind of weird beer battered thing they tried to be different but it was just bad.

bowl build your own

I LOVE munecas! i got a build your own rice and beans bowl with plantains and shrimp and yum yum sauce and bleu cheese crumbles. it was DELICIOUS! i had heard so many great things about this place and it was really good. I also got chips and guac which were both very fresh. definitely gets crowded on the weekends but was worth it. i went for lunch and recommend that time.

Chicken nachos

Great food and real nice portions! Took my three kids to the 4th Avenue Food Park for lunch yesterday. Two of the kids wanted Munecas and this is what they got: Mojo pork tacos and chicken nachos. I tried the nachos and they were damn good! It had a cheese sauce on it that was full of flavor. And we loved that they layered the cheese sauce throughout the nachos. I'd love to say that I tried the pork tacos but my other child tore through that order before I got to try them. But they said the tacos were outstanding!

sweet plantains

so I'll start by saying I love the location and set up of this little place. There's plenty of outdoor seating and it borders a nice open area. You place your order at the counter and then they call your name and bring you your food. I got a Carnitas taco and a chicken taco. it took a while for the food to come out but it was around lunchtime so they were fairly busy. I would say 20 minutes. The tacos were good but a little basic. I feel that the filling didn't have a lot of effort to it. For instance, the chicken was just kind of mushy like it had been prepared in a pot and then let sit for a while to congeal. The Carnitas was about the same. I think the toppings on both were the same with a little cabbage and some drizzle. All in all not bad, but I think if I were going for tacos, I might look somewhere else. On the positive side, I got the fried plantains, and they were sweet and tender. that being said, they did have other items on the menu, including different kinds of fried rice. I would probably come back to try those.

Brunch burrito
Hayli Z.

There is inside eating but it's more you order at the front and then sit but there isn't a server to refill your drinks or anything. The food was really good, very filling. The brunch is definitely more savory and has some spice to it so I'm glad I had it closer to lunch. I'd come back again but ask if they have a bigger cup for water so I didn't have to keep going to the bar to get more.

Nice save. Parking when they're busy is a bit much but we found a spot around the corner from the door and walked to the entrance. You walk through their outside dining area which is all covered but because it had just rained it was a bit muggy for us so we opted to sit inside. The place has multiple floors and I really like that set up. We were sat upstairs on the second floor right by the top of the stairs. Looking around you can see another floor with a reserved area, tvs showing sports, and their salsa bar, more on that later. No chips and salsa here. Chips and Charro Bean Dip. The beans tasted refried and charred if that makes sense. I lost at rock, paper, scissors so I had to go visit the salsa bar and bring back dips to try. They had some pretty good ones like their homemade chipotle dressing, salsa verde, salsa de molcajete, etc. There wasn't one that we didn't like. Our server was really great and took care of us well. I got a Tamarindo Margarita and to eat the Enchiladas Poblanas (chicken enchiladas with mole sauce, queso fresco, raw onions) with the normal side of refried beans and rice, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and guac. I got a side of extra cheese because I'm a little rat and dumped it on them. The mole sauce really hit the spot. The last time I had it the sauce was kinda bland but this gave such a nice sweet and earthy flavor. He got the Molcajete Azteca (lava rock bowl with char-grilled chicken, steak, chorizo, shrimp, queso fresco, grilled cactus, onions, avocados, serrano peppers, pork rinds), same sides as my dish. He ''Oooh-ed" and "Ahhh-ed" and "Oh my God, this is so good" so you know he was a happy guy. I can see what all the hype is about. Definitely a place to visit.

We got a seat inside away from the noise, oddly enough in about the same place as we almost always have gotten in this restaurant. I went for a burrito, which is also my standard. It was just as good this time around as it was the last time, and the service was still just as solid. Really, for this kind of Mexican food in Gainesville, this is one of the best places to go as far as I am concerned. We will be returning in the future.

With that being said, I've tried a variety of their menu items. They offer a wonderful variety of tex-mex dishes, burgers, soft-serve, and more. Another thing I appreciate about all their entrees is that you can customize them, include whatever meat you want, remove items, and add items. I really do appreciate this as it makes your meal truly cater to your cravings! This location is a takeout spot or drive-thru experience. There isn't any indoor seating spaces, although they do have a covered outdoor eating space. The service is usually pretty quick and friendly. I have never had any issues here with my order and I have always received the correct order within a reasonable amount of time. Everything is made to order and tastes very fresh as well. I would say the prices are fair and the portions are giving, depending on what you order. They do not offer complimentary chips with most meals though. On my most recent visit, I tried their nachos with shredded beef and churros. The nachos included a bed of their corn tortilla chips topped with black refried beans, jack & cheddar cheese, then topped with sour cream, guacamole, and salsa fresca. These were just ok and definitely not my favorite thing from here. I don't think nachos are served best as takeout and the chips got kind of soggy. There was a plentiful amount of the tender shredded beef though. The flavors were there, it just wasn't executed the best and I would probably opt for their tacos instead. I also don't love El Indio's guacamole as it reminds me of premade store bought guacamole. Their chips are also hit or miss...sometimes they taste very fresh and other times they are slightly stale. On this particular experience I didn't think I got the freshest chips. Their churros I got hit the spot and were coated in ample amounts of sugar & cinnamon. I thought these were a perfect way to end my meal and really enjoyed them! Overall, I really think El Indio is a solid spot for Mexican in Midtown. They have a solid business and are relatively close to campus. The food tastes very authentic, is fresh, and has a lot of flavor. While the nachos weren't my favorite, I love their tacos (all of the meats I've tried have been wonderful!), taco bowls, and their soft-serve is AMAZING. I truly enjoy ordering here and will definitely be back soon! I would recommend checking them out if you haven't already.

As a heads up for anyone wondering, they don't serve alcohol so this isn't a place to go when in the mood for margs. This place is close to my house so it's nice when not wanting to drive a long way. We went on a Thursday night and there was only one other family there. The server was nice, even with a language barrier. The most recent time I went I had a steak burrito and added cheese. It was probably the most flavorful steak burrito I've ever had in my life, and that's saying a lot. I was only able to eat half and even the next day was it still very delicious. My bf had the burrito supremo and he enjoyed his as well. We also had queso and it was a little thick for our liking but otherwise, not bad. This is for sure more of an authentic restaurant as they also serve sauces like mole so if you don't know what that is, you will be cultured. I look forward to returning!

My husband's Toluca had an amazing flavor, but the ribeye was very thin and a little tough. Would recommend the dish but maybe the chicken version. But now I have finally had the opportunity, and it was definitely worth it! Typically parked next to the old Hollander's Hydraulics building, this taco stand has been operating in the parking lot for the past month, and appears to be doing quite well. They now have their own porta-potty, mostly for themselves but I would assume guests would be able to use it as well if needed. Access from both sides of the road is easy enough as well as there is a cross-over of 441 right at the entrance to the parking lot. Their menu has all the regular things you would expect with a variety of meats... tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, and tostadas. I went with an order of tacos and a burrito. Now, I have found that tacos have become a bit over-hyped, and therefore expensive for what you get. This was the case as well... while the tacos are good, I just found them to be a bit pricey for what you get. You definitely get a better bang for the buck when it comes to the burrito, and I was quite happy with it. When it comes to ambiance, well... it is a taco truck on the side of the road. There is plenty of parking, but nowhere to sit, so this is purely a grab and go kind of place for the time being. Perhaps as they become more established in the location they will have a chance to put out some picnic tables or something so people can sit outside and eat their meals. I will be returning when the timing is right, as it is on the way home for me!
