"CHEF STYLE"|$16 - 1 Shrimp, 1 barbacca, 1 carnitas, and 1 chicken with chef choice of cheese, toppings and a soda
    Tom L.

My beloved 79 years old father who has never asked for any kind of food, except my mother's Vietnamese cooking, has been asking me to get him tacos lately. Thus begin may search for the best tacos in Gainesville. Tonight, I think I have found it at Tony Dillas's food truck located at the intersection of Main Street and S.W. 16th Avenue. Initially, I had only intended on getting 2 tacos because I wasn't really that hungry but I was met with such wonderful customer service, I decided to try the Chef Style Entree which includes 4 quesadillas, each with a different protein: shrimp, barbacoa, carnitas and chicken. All entrees come with black beans & rice and a medley of pickled veggies. And since I was getting all that, I decided to get dessert, too, because you know, I wasn't hungry. Normally, I don't get desserts; but again, good customer service coupled with my affinity for guava made me an abnormal yeti. It was really cold tonight so I planned on taking the takeout over to my father's house and giving him a taste since he had already eaten dinner and doesn't like to eat too much before bedtime. Well, when the food was ready, I decide to take a photo with the food truck, in case, I wanted to write a glowing review. Do you feel the light yet? The food looked so scrumptious and hot, I decided to just try an itty biddy bite of each. Game over! I couldn't stop myself. Everything was perfect. I'm glad I didn't wait until I got to my dad's house because he lives far away. I'm sure it would have tasted fine after the 15 minutes drive but eating it hot was the best thing for mental health, this weather and the depths of my soul. I was doing my happy dance in my seat and tapping my hand on the table with each morsel. I was, as the great Jodi Foster once said, "Tay in the wind." The smiling chef walked by and asked if I need anything else. Mouth full of delight, I just smiled and shook my head no. I was focused and floating in food heaven. Enjoying myself. The black beans & rice were perfection and not over seasoned which complimented the quesadillas brilliantly. The pickled veggies brighten up everything and cleansed the palate so you can enjoy your next protein, especially if you go from chicken to pork. I went from not hungry to eating everything including the salsa roja, avocado crema and a spicy mayo type sauce. Cleared my "plate" clean. To be honest, when I initially saw the guava and cream cheese tortillas during my photo shoot, I thought it looked simple and nothing really to write home about... Dear Mẹ và Ba (Mama and Papa) not only did I find you the best tacos but I found you the perfect dessert. After eating all those perfectly sized quesadillas which all stay hot during my sitting, the desserts were also still shockingly warm. I really don't know how they did it or if it was because I had scarfed down my food, which would've not been atypical of me. But this time, I definitely relished my meal. Regardless, I again thought I would just take a bit or two. Lies! I finished all three tortillas because they were delectably perfect, lightly fried, soft and flaky, warm and gooey inside. It did not surprisingly taste fried. It really was perfection. It wasn't too sweet which my parents would love. The tortillas were perfectly coated with just the right amount of cinnamon sugar. I can't express to you how much I appreciate the restraint the chef has for all of his ingredients. You really have to try it for yourself. ¡Buen provecho! 10 Across The Board! Shantay You Stay! Look Roy Choi! ***Pretty Please consider cleaning your styrofoam containers and recycling them along with plastic bags in the front of your nearest Publix entrances. I know you're busy but I just keep them in a cardboard box or plastic bag until it gets full or until I go grocery shopping and dispose of them both there. I know it's a lot to ask but once you do it for a while, it will be a good habit that won't take much thought or effort and you'll be helping the environment while enjoying good food. Remember styrofoam is not biodegradable. Instead of passing the buck or pointing fingers, let's please just do what we can. And let's not focus on the who's not doing it.

Momma-Dilla has 3 quesadillas and a side of yellow rice and black beans

I stumbled upon Tony Dillas today while out running errands and I'm so glad I did. So delish! I thought I ordered enough to share, but it was so good I kept it all for myself! I ordered the Momma Dilla with one cheese, one shrimp, and one chicken quesadilla. The one with just chihuahua cheese they offered to coat the outside in cheese too, omg yum! I was surprised these are made with smaller street-taco style tortillas, which I'm pretty sure were corn not flour and served with a side of sour cream. I will definitely eat here again!

I just think they don't try hard enough, the people working there perhaps are not properly trained, paid or it just comes all the way from the top. I went there to give them a second chance since I had previously tried them about a year ago and I thought the food was not good back then, but maybe since they have been open long enough, maybe it was that one thing I had. Well I was wrong, I ordered just some appetizers, not even a full meal or anything and they took almost an hour to bring it out!! I didn't want to complaint so I just took my food to go and left, but when I got home the mandocas I ordered were terrible, tasted like they just reheated them and didn't even have cheese or nata which is what they should come with, or how they are served in any Venezuelan place you go to. On top of that, I had asked for cilantro sauce for the tequeños, they said it was in the bag, and when I got home they just put garlic sauce in there!! I didn't even eat, what a waste of money and energy to go there. Terrible experience, I don't recommend the headache to anyone, it's just not worthy. Unfortunately.

But now I have finally had the opportunity, and it was definitely worth it! Typically parked next to the old Hollander's Hydraulics building, this taco stand has been operating in the parking lot for the past month, and appears to be doing quite well. They now have their own porta-potty, mostly for themselves but I would assume guests would be able to use it as well if needed. Access from both sides of the road is easy enough as well as there is a cross-over of 441 right at the entrance to the parking lot. Their menu has all the regular things you would expect with a variety of meats... tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, and tostadas. I went with an order of tacos and a burrito. Now, I have found that tacos have become a bit over-hyped, and therefore expensive for what you get. This was the case as well... while the tacos are good, I just found them to be a bit pricey for what you get. You definitely get a better bang for the buck when it comes to the burrito, and I was quite happy with it. When it comes to ambiance, well... it is a taco truck on the side of the road. There is plenty of parking, but nowhere to sit, so this is purely a grab and go kind of place for the time being. Perhaps as they become more established in the location they will have a chance to put out some picnic tables or something so people can sit outside and eat their meals. I will be returning when the timing is right, as it is on the way home for me!

The event said no reservations needed, so we showed up not realizing how popular it would be. The place was PACKED with a line out the door! Even so, we only waited about 25 minutes for a table on Valentine's Day, which honestly wasn't bad at all considering the crowd. We went specifically for their Valentine's special: 2 margaritas, fajitas for two, and dessert, such a great deal! The margaritas were delicious. We ordered the Rita sampler and the blueberry margarita tasted like blueberry pie, so fresh, organic, and absolutely yummy. We also ordered homemade guacamole, which was delectable, paired with fresh, crispy homemade chips. Our fajitas included steak, pork, chicken, and shrimp, and everything was cooked to perfection. The flavors were incredible!!! And can we talk about the restaurant itself? It's HUGE! It felt like one of those multi-level Times Square NYC restaurants, with multiple floors and even outside patio seating. It was like a magic trick walking through it! Our waitress, Lia, was fantastic, attentive, helpful, and so sweet despite how busy it was. The staff worked incredibly hard all night and it showed. Plentiful parking, amazing food, great atmosphere. We will definitely be back to this hidden gem we didn't even know existed in town.
