My wife and I had a chance to go back to Cilantro Tacos with my mom who is visiting from California. During our previous visit, my wife and I tried their California Burrito, with carnitas for my wife and carne asada for me. Both burritos were bursting with flavors and were served in generous portions...we couldn't finish all of it. This time, we ordered the Bowl with Carne Asada for me and Carnitas for my wife. My mom tried their California Burrito 3 fish tacos. We were also served a flavorful dip that is not yet on the menu that the owner plans on adding soon...it'll be called Mama's Dip. It was so good, we can't stop eating it with chips. My wife actually just ate that with chips and took home the bowl. I too liked that dip very much that I too packed my bowl to go! The owner shared that they started the business 12 years ago and moved to the Newberry location 6 years ago. There's a reason they've been recognized for their food. Everything was prepared well, flavorful and freshly made. We learned they make everything in house from fresh ingredients...nothing frozen nor canned. I've come here several times and can say that they are steady with their quality and service. I usually get the the carne asada tacos which are always made perfect. I can say the carne asada tacos had less flavor to them. But my bf got a California Burrito that was incredible that I ended up trading with him. He was a trooper because I truly cherished that burrito. I went full big back activity with the burrito and took the queso that I ordered and just dipped it in there a couple of times. It was an explosion of flavors . You could taste the seasoning in the steak, the fresh pico, cilantro and onions. It all came together beautifully. I have noticed a quality downgrade when ordering tortilla or corn tacos with carne asada, chicken etc. it lacks that kick that the California Burrito provides. All in all, that burrito will be calling my name at night. The meat was tender and the fries inside were the perfect companion. The toppings were fresh and broke through the grease of the fries and the meat was hearty but not too heavy. The queso is addicting and I couldn't put it down. They were certainly generous with the bag of chips that come with it. Me thing I've noticed every time I eat is that the water tastes weird . I had their lemonade and it had the strangest after taste. I would say they don't offer much drink options but maybe getting a Jaritos or bringing your own drink is a safe bet. This visit we couldn't sit inside since they were packed. It's a small place and I think 4-5 tables inside. It was pretty cold outside and I didn't want to sit outside and freeze my toes so I ate in my car. I wish that they had more space but I noticed that most people come in and order out. I have passed by this place dozens of times in Tioga, however since it was Cinco de Mayo - of course tacos are obligatory. My friend called in to see the wait time and thankfully it was less than an hour. That was a great wait time in comparison to other restaurants in town that were up to 3 hours! When arriving, it was slammed, which was to be expected on a Friday and a holiday. However, we decided to order our food to dine in at the outdoor seating. Once glancing over the menu, there is a great selection of entrees and several options for your tacos. From seafood to chicken to steak to even great veggie options, there's definitely something for everyone. I decided to order 3 tacos - hard shell, one chicken, one shrimp, and one fish. I decided to get all the fixings - lettuce, tomato, cheese, onions, sour cream - and added limes, pickled and fresh jalapenos. In addition, I was eying the agua fresca once we were greeted at the cashier. I went with the mango agua fresca and opted in for the dried chilli mango candy inside of the drink. This was the perfect amount of sweet and tangy from the chilli. It was giving mangonada vibes. The wait time honestly was maybe 20-25 minutes - which was great for my hungry belly. Out of the 3 tacos, I would order the shrimp and fish again. The shrimp were huge and very juicy. The fish was blackened and very well seasoned. The chicken fell flat for me. It was very salty and a little rubbery. My friend ordered chips and guac and it was very fresh and delicious. I love their variety of salsas which was great compliments to the chips and tacos. Been here a few times now and never really been blown away. I've tried a variety of meats and have yet to figure out my order. The best meat in my opinion is the carnitas, which are fantastic. The chicken is not great, and the fish and shrimp are just okay. Next time I will order a bowl, as the corn tortillas fall apart by the time the food reaches the table. I'm not sure if this is a recent change, but the prices are very high for what you get. $11-15 for three tacos at a casual taco joint is a little high. I just moved to the area and this was my first time here. Steve helped me who was nice and helpful (same name). I got 3 tacos (chicken, steak, Al Pastor) on flour tortillas and the toppings I wanted and 2 Salas. They were good but not great, I got the mild sauces and also just ok. I also got chips and guac and the guac was already brown when they gave me it!, but chips were good and warm. Of course I got a Jarritos. Now the bad, it was so hot in there! There was no A/C and I sat next to the thermostat which read 82 degrees! Which was uncomfortable. The place was dirty! I had to clean off the table the prior person left a mess and two condiment basket, (and did notice the ceiling another reviewer made a comment on). I finally decided to try this place based on all the good reviews and I must say I got disappointed. Maybe the quality has come down or what, but everything I got was bland and overpriced. I was surprised to see families with kids dining inside with all the smoke in the air. Not exaggerating the air quality inside was terrible. OK, Cilantro's was always one of our favorite food trucks to hit up after a late night. We also used to make pilgrimage outs to Newberry to eat at their original location the new location in Town of Tioga is a nicer version of the original store. The food is just as good but the store and location are much nicer. We pretty much tried one of each from column a and B on this trip. My favorite is the steak. Typically I get them loaded with pickled jalapeños. There are numerous sauces to choose From, but my favorite is the salsa Verde. I'm really glad they build a location that's closer to my home, they are welcome addition to the neighborhood Update: well we've been back to cilantro is at least a dozen times since my first review, and the food is still awesome. This place is just like Felipe's, just much better. Since the departure of Burrito Brothers I needed a good local Mexican food spot to have a nice casual lunch. This is one of my favorites. This place is more known for its street tacos, though I still like Linda Vista for a sitdown Mexican meal. I can't giv this restaurant a more hearty recommendation. A great casual place for lunch. Great Tacos! I had never eaten here before and was asked to stop by and pick up a lunch special for friend. I have to admit I was skeptical about how I would rate them because parking in Tioga is a challenge and the restaurant was packed. I thought I was going tohave a LONG wait.... but was able to find parking pretty quickly and the line to order (which was out of the door) moved fast. The staff is super efficient and hustle continuously making the flow work. There were 16 people in front of me in line and from the time I got in line to the when I picked up my order was 11 minutes. I was impressed to say the least. With speed sometimes quality is lost. Not here. I ordered the beef taco lunch special and added a chicken taco to see how it was. The chicken was pretty good, a little dry but better than most. The beef taco however was delicious! The toppings are fresh, super flavorful, and have a good ratio of meet to veggies.
