Taco salad, chips, chimichanga and chicken quesadillas
    David J.

Venturing out in search of a local business to support (face it, we were hungry), we found this small restaurant in Williston. "Hole-in-the-Wall" is an apt description for this place; I think there were 7 tables that could handle about 25-30 people max. We filled the last table, but had to wait for it to be cleaned. There was only one person waiting on tables, so it was a little slow getting drinks and our order put in. The food was very good; I personally liked the chicken chimichanga better than the beef one, but the food was solid, the salsa just hot enough and the fried ice cream was yummy! 1/2/17 Back for a second visit: service was a little quicker and the food was excellent. I'm moving my rating up to a four of five stars.

A nice full to go menu.

Well let's get this started today I have stumbled upon the Los Avina Mexican Restaurant hidden amongst the oaks in Williston FL while here on other business. I arrived a little early after being referred here by the folks I was doing business with so I had about a twenty minute wait until they opened. Upon entering I was greeted and seated by Diane whose parents apparently are the owners. She took my drink ordered and returned with the chips and salsa I requested some guacamole as well. B fire o go any further I need to make it clear that this is Tex Mex at best. The salsa was great very thick lots of body with a very robust flavor and just the right amount of heat. The guacamole was okay but appeared to have been made much earlier today and seriously needs some salt. The chips were just that chips. I ordered the Quesadilla Loco which promised chunks of beef with chicken and shrimp along with onions and green peppers in a white cream sauce. Spanish rice was also served as a side. There a few grains of rice that were undercooked and it was a little bland but a splash of salsa cured it quickly. The cream sauce is definitely the star here while it pulls everything together it is very obvious that it can very easily stand on its own. I myself would preferred to have a few more onions in the main dish but it would be more than adequate for most people who don't eat this type of food regularly. While I was disappointed that there wasn't any Lengua or Horchata on the menu they more than made up for it in hospitality. Being able to speak with the cook when I first arrived was an added bonus and I was assured that the Quesadilla Loco is one of his favorite dishes to prepare which prompted me to order that dish. This is a smallish place within a building that also offer a Hair Salon so it is a bit confusing as one approaches from the outside. All in all in was a pretty good dining experience my server Diane was most tolerable to my quirks and took it all in the best possible way. I will come again when in the area and I hope you all will give them a shot a

What a great little place! Went for lunch on a Saturday and was happy to see that they had lunch specials. I got the mixed fajitas, with a salad plate and I couldn't have been happier. They've got good Mexican cream instead of sour cream, the flavors were good and everything was fresh. I will definitely go back again

Great place, hand made tortillas, the red salsa disappointed its taste like from tomato can and the habanero salsa is too spicy you can't enjoy it. The race and beans okay American style. The steak was well cooking. Service was fair. Price for two $44 no bad. I will return for sure

So picky in fact my friend Davis and I go to get Mexican once a week in Ocala because we're not satisfied with any Gainesville or Newberry Mexican restaurants. The ambience here is . . . well, you can see it as festive or garish I guess either one. Very brightly colored Mexican chairs and everything else. Both a radio playing and television on with sound: I don't get why restaurants need to have TVs, I can see it for a sports bar but every single restaurant? Come on. Service however was friendly and prompt. Then there is the food. The chips and salsa were certainly homemade and tasty. I ordered chicken tamales and the three-tamale plate comes with rice, black beans, and the tamales themselves buried beneath a salad of lettuce, tomato, and Mexican cheese. The plate was enormous and every aspect of it fresh and very, very, good. The tamales, especially. Prices are very fair for such quality and large plates of food. Maybe when it first opened things ran a bit rough hence the poor reviews but I was only impressed: first-rate authentic Mexican with a varied menu and very good portions.

Las Micheladas, while technically located in Ocala, is really up the road from Ocala in Bitchton…read more.. but they don't have a post office, so Ocala it is. Sitting on US27 halfway between Ocala and Williston, the restaurant sits on the Southwest side of the road. If you are heading Northwest on US27, it is a bit of a pain to get to as there is no access across the dual carriageway, and you have to go up the road a quarter mile to do a U-Turn. Same goes for leaving the place to continue heading Northwest. Once you are in the parking lot, be on the lookout for cats. There is at least one that hangs around, so please don't run them over! Also, on the north side of the parking lot is some dirt parking, but beware of that if it has rained recently. I saw a truck almost get stuck in there trying to get out. There is a front porch with a number of tables and chairs, so outdoor seating is available. I took full advantage of it this weekend as it was a gorgeous day out. Inside is seating as well, obviously. Looking over the menu, they have an extensive list of items. I went for the quesadilla which comes with rice, beans, and salsa, and also a burrito. Chips and salsa are also served when you get your drinks. The quesadilla I had was decent. I am not sure which cheese they used in it, but it seemed thicker than the Mexican cheese I am accustomed to seeing on quesadillas from restaurants like this. It seemed almost to be a Monterey Jack. It was still tasty, mind you, but the cheese in it seemed a bit thick. Next up was the burrito. Here, I made a mistake... not in ordering too much food (I knew it was too much food, and it would be going home in a doggy bag) but in ordering it wet, which means it comes with a red tomato based sauce and cheese. The cheese was fine, but the red sauce... oh dear... it needs work. A lot of work. It was basically just straight tomato sauce out of a can. No seasoning, no modification to change it from the droll canned stuff to something unique and enjoyable, just... blech. The burrito itself was good, mind you, but with this sauce on it it became something that was just not palatable. I packed it away in a styrofoam container, scraping as much of the sauce off of it as possible, and hopefully when I tackle it at home I will be able to eliminate that sauce properly. The prices are right for the amount of food you get, I will say. There just seem to be some things that you may want to avoid.

We went specifically for their Valentine's special: 2 margaritas, fajitas for two, and dessert, such a great deal! The margaritas were delicious. We ordered the Rita sampler and the blueberry margarita tasted like blueberry pie, so fresh, organic, and absolutely yummy. We also ordered homemade guacamole, which was delectable, paired with fresh, crispy homemade chips. Our fajitas included steak, pork, chicken, and shrimp, and everything was cooked to perfection. The flavors were incredible!!! And can we talk about the restaurant itself? It's HUGE! Our waitress, Lia, was fantastic, attentive, helpful, and so sweet despite how busy it was. The staff worked incredibly hard all night and it showed. Plentiful parking, amazing food, great atmosphere. We will definitely be back to this hidden gem we didn't even know existed in town.
