I liked the food here. I ordered here this morning and had to drive 12 minutes home and the food was still nice and hot when I got there. The onion rings are nice and crispy and taste delicious. I got the egg cheese and burger and after adding some salt, pepper and ketchup when I got home for $5.50 it was a great fast breakfast option for something different and quick. I can't believe it took me so long to write this review. Honestly I wanted to give one star but I added one bc my bf enjoys this place and enjoyed his food. I on the other hand, not so much. So for starters, this was my first time here. I had heard mixed reviews but ultimately it's a Gainesville staple. We decided to go for breakfast one morning and naturally I looked at the menu before I went. Okay so it is an old, local eatery. I mean really old. The speakers to order are so worn and honestly easy to miss. I had no idea they were even there. I had to back up because I drove right by. And then you're practically having to yell to order, or at least that was my experience. They cook to order so once I ordered I waited maybe 10 minutes at the window. The customer service also wasn't the best I'll add. My order ended up being wrong which just made matters worse. One thing to note is the entire menu is served the whole time they're open. This place is shockingly bad. 1. I ordered a cheeseburger, probably the worst cheeseburger of my life. Although it's cooked to order, it's still somehow cold. No flavor, extremely bland, small, low quality beef. 2. I waited a total of 24 minutes for this cheeseburger. 3. Staff is rude. 4. The place is FILTHY. Extremely dirty, staff doesn't clean up after themselves and theres weird smells coming from the inside. 5. They don't know how to manage a restaurant, straight up. They have no sense of time management, or moving people through a line. They take half of your day up with the wait for extremely low quality nasty food. A small building serving up BIG flavors, Sandwich Inn could easily be passed by if you're not looking for it. With a grand sign proclaiming that it's the "oldest restaurant where the locals eat", it's clear that this is a blast from the past. With two drive thru lanes and a menu with breakfast and lunch favorites, the vibe and prices will surely take you back a few decades. Let me just tell you, the food is worth the lunch rush wait! If you're up early and can grab breakfast, even better! Best thing? Breakfast is available all day! My favorites include anything with their thick-cut bacon, okra and their sausage breakfast bowl. I took my friend here and she had a Milkshake and couldn't get enough! The staff here is also amazing. They seem like a tight-knit group based on how well they work together, but I assume you have no choice when you work in such close quarters! Cold fries, stern eyes and a dry burger I despised. Sandwich Inn has a nifty concept. Drive In fast food place with a blast from the past vibe! What can go wrong? Well definitely not the prices! They were insanely cheap. Burgers starting at 2.79 and the most expensive being a triple triple cheeseburger 4.99 (does that mean 6 patties? Don't worry I was confused by this too). I had 4 cars in front of me so I had to wait on the street to turn into the drive in. This being a fast food place, I expected a quick wait. But was I wrong. I waited over 15 minutes in order to get to the drive thru speaker to order. I ended up ordering a cheeseburger, fries and a strawberry shake! My cheeseburger was dry and there was nothing out of the ordinary. My fries were cold and soggy. The only savior from keeping me hungry was the shake. But it felt as though I could've have gotten this anywhere else without a long wait time. When I got to the window to pay, the cashier was very stern and she picked up a phone call, (which someone called the restaurant) understandable. But I was taken aback from the conversation. Riddle me this: Why is the line for this tiny, little (drive-thru/walk-up only) food shack snaking down the road at 8AM? Oh, I know... it's just that good, that's why! It's simple, almost 70-80's vintage and it's taking names in Gainesville. The breakfast is hot & flavorful. That's their secret, it tastes great. The line is usually not that bad... perhaps a car or two during lunch, so the service is usually not that bad. The drive through set up is so confusing to me, but I finally ordered a bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich. Sandwich Inn is greasy, but in that good way. That way when you see a greasy paper bag and know the food is going to POP!! There was a bit of a wait but that's because everything is made to order My food was soooo HOT, once I got it. I am so glad that I finally checked this place out! It is a really cool little drive thru on NE 16th. There are two lanes and the service is extremely fast! They have breakfast all day and then lunch/dinner sandwiches as well! I had a grilled cheese, fries and a large coke. I wasn't too hungry but need something to tide me over! I quite often go through and purchase breakfast and a sandwich for lunch and drive out for less than $8! The drive through goes along both sides of the building, so you can choose to go through the left side if you have a passenger, or the right side if not. I love their ice! It's the kind that freezes in a tube, then falls out, so it's like icee pellets. And their jumbo drink really IS a JUMBO! The owners are often working the windows and are friendly and always smiling. Ummmmmm...Yes please! I have been going here for years and I do not think that they have ever raised the prices. The menu continues to grow daily, and they just keep nailing new menu items to the wall until it has become this massive wall of deliciousness! They have different daily specials, and I try to make it on $1.89 bacon cheeseburger day. Bacon is where they hook me, it is so freaking crispy here, which is hard to find on a burger. It even stays crispy 30 minutes later, and is super addictive. The shakes are the perfect consistency and not too sweet. The service here is much faster than Mac's even though they have about the same amount of customers, the line moves twice as fast. What other burger place has fried okra? If you are in Gainesville and have not tried this place, there is something definitely wrong. If you do come here, you will see me in my parked car, wearing sunglasses with a burger in my hand. Good ole die hard Mom and Pop's will always have a place in my heart and this place is one of them from the 1960s and for good reason. It's just as relevant today as it's ever been. We found good service and good food here. Very disappointed how they let things slip. It took 20 minutes to get my order with 2 customers ahead of me. I asked for no Mayo and they gave me Mayo anyway. Idk why but 9 times out of 10 when I ask for no Mayo, I get Mayo. It doesn't seem like an absurd request... The worst part was that my burger was COLD. Cold bun, cold toppings, cold beef patty, cold cheese. The burger wasn't raw, just cold, as if they pre-cooked it, refrigerated it, and forgot to reheat it before serving it to me.
