On a rainy, chilly, horrible weather day in Gainesville, FL...where else would you go? To a place with delicious, cooked to order comforting food! This time I got a kraut dog (I didn't share). I wanted all of that warm tangy deliciousness to myself! I also tried their smash burger. Yes, yes, everyone has their signature burger...but folks...I'm going to say something here that speaks to only the burger aficionados out there...y'all know who you are. My people. The person that goes to a fancy restaurant and while everyone else is ordering the shrimp or ribs or a steak and you're ordering a burger. You know who you are and I'm one of you. This burger literally BLEW my mind. I've tried other smash burgers, but this one was actually executed PERFECTLY. What is the difference? A true "smash" burger is done just that way on the grill so that every crack, every crevice on that grill gets crispy and delicious. And the bread they use here? Soft and pillowy with just the right amount of give and chew. They literally toast the inside of EVERY bun! And not that little tiny throw onto the grill for a second or two...that nice hard grill that makes the butter hard crisp the bread so you get that crunch inside with the nice pillow outside. Shred the lettuce so it's on every bite and not falling out before you take those bites. Perfection. Added some Big Mill's sauce and wow. Just plain yellow American cheese is fine with me. I'm no cheese snob. Next time? I'm definitely enjoying a double. Just wanted to try the entire kraut dog for myself. Worth it. That grill crisped bun on the dog was soooo good. I want it on a double smashburger next time! The staff comes and checks with you and brings you your food when ready. Asks if everything was okay and if you need any sauces or utensils. That is so surprising every time to me. Well worth every single penny I've spent here. The attention to exact details and the comfort and hominess this place exudes along with the selection of awesome 60s and early 70s music (which is exactly from my era) they play is the reason we'll keep coming back over and over again. It's also why this little place is packed on a miserable Sunday afternoon. I'm so glad I went here at the behest of my hubby or I would've missed out on my new favorite burger place!

Love that they have veggie options. I got the build your own, so you can choose chicken, veggie meat and steak, then you can pick your cheese and up to 3 toppings. It was pretty good, I got the veggie with mushrooms, peppers and onion and Swiss. The cheese pull on that Swiss was INSANE! I was able to reach my hand fully above me and the cheese at still stretching. Quick service, plenty of parking. I wouldn't go all the time because I dont usually like fake meats but I love that they have this option in Gainesville.

Might just be the best cheesesteak I've had in Florida. Meat was tender and paired perfectly with the whiz, peppers, and onions. Bun was soft and didn't get soggy. Fries were crispy and a went well with their special sauce. Service was great, everyone was super friendly and answered any questions. Casual vibe since the food truck was parked at a brewery. Would definitely recommend trying this place out if you see it!

Great cheesesteaks! Took my wife here for a quick lunch prior to the Gators game. I loved my sandwich but she was blown away. Immediately exclaimed it was the best cheesesteak she's had in Gainesville. Atmosphere is cool too! I loved the menu selection! But what really sold it for us was the customer service! Everyone was so friendly and helpful! The manager checked on every table. And at least four staff members came out from the kitchen to check on us. This place is really good! Support local! But also support good places!

The food here is really good and while it's not the nicest atmosphere, it definitely has a fun vibe and is themed well. The onion rings were really nice and crispy and went well with the sauce. The service was great and pretty fast. It's a nice casual place and I'd love to come back to try some of their other food options.

Driving home to Houston from Orlando and discovered this gem of a place. The service was more befitting of a 4-5 star restaurant. The ladies were great to all visitors! The food was well worth the drive near campus. Don't even get me started with the fried Oreos. All 3 of us were beyond pleased!

All I can say is wow. I'm born and raised in Philly and this place has a better cheesesteak than 90% of places there. I've tried them all. Carmela's, John's roast pork, oregons, Angelo's, Jim's steaks and soda, Delasandro's, I mean u name it this cheesesteak is better. The bread is soft, the cheese is melted through, the steak tastes amazing. Got the classic white American with mushrooms onions and green peppers and everything tastes fresh. You won't be disappointed.

Well its been awhile since we had been here, and decided to order out and go take food home. Was pretty busy but was taken care of by 2 friendly employees. Got that oldvschool sandwich shop feel.Big Menu boards.and a large diverse menu. Ordered a cheesesteak that was amazing, and wife loved her polish sausage dog. We ordered a chicken ceasar salad too for tomorrow. One thing i had issue with was doesn't a caesar salad come with caesar dressing? Well this one didnt if they put some on there i couldnt find it.only flavor i tasted was from chicken. Other than that everything was amazing. Big Mills is a icon in Gainesville and their cheesesteaks prove that!! read more

took them 50 minutes to make a milkshake and fries, and i had to start bothering the staff over it to even get it that soon. the lady who seems like a manager but i'm not sure, acted like she was so bothered and annoyed to have to serve me when i finally said something. i've spent years in and around gainesville and have loved big mills the whole time, but between the horrible service this time and the repeated rudeness from cashiers the last few times i've came in, i won't be giving this place anymore of my business. read more

The food and service were outstanding. It was my first time visiting and not only was the cashier knowledgeable, but she was friendly and willing to answer any questions I had. She was kind to our pup, and even brought him a water bowl unasked. If you're looking for a delicious cheesesteak and great service then look no further. read more

I just don't know where to start... the restaurant was filthy and the women's bathroom was one of the worst I've seen (or smelled)! The burger was salt lick - couldn't take the beef for the salt (not seasoning, straight up salt). Four items from menu selected, no one understood the positive reviews posted. read more

We moved from orlando and have been looking for a good cheesesteak, and OMG! We found it. This place is amazing. They cook to order. You can customize it the way you want, they can do ribeye, chicken or fake steak. The flavor is so good and the meat was juicy, the onions and peppers were cooked to perfection and not crunchy. I have been here many times It is one of my hubby's favorite go-to places when on this side of town. It is a small place with some outside seating. It sports a baseball theme which I admit is lost on me as I am not a sports fan. However, the food is kind of the food you would find at a game. The menu consists of cheesesteaks, sausages, hot dogs, and of course fries and other game foods. I would love to say the prices are a bargain but seeing as everything has been going up price-wise this place can be a little pricey when you combo a sandwich. As for service and taste service is always great here. I am always greeted with a friendly hello and someone is always willing to help. Food comes out hot which is saying a lot as most fast food places seem to love serving cold fries. This is not that place. My fries are always hot and well seasons and their Big ill sauce is spot on. Overall a nice place to visit that is small but good. I give it 5 stars because the service is wonderful and the food is fresh and hot. Plus I can load up my cheesesteak with extra cost. Things like mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, and other toppings. read more

This is just a mom/pops place. Is you want fast food that is not a big chain... this is your place. Food is acceptable and you buying into the community. Now the place has been there for ever and a day and i don't think they have ever made any renovations. I guess they have a faithful group of clients that keeps this place open. It is not my go to for fast food. I only visit because i do have friends that like this place. The walls are full of memorabilia and I guess they don't want to change that, but it would be nice to see it get a little facelift. Service is great. People are really kind and friendly. The best cheesesteaks around Gainesville! I think what makes it the best is not just that the meat, cheese and veggies are done really well but that they have Giardiniera peppers! They come on the Chicago cheesesteak. That is my absolute favorite! The hot peppers add so much flavor to the cheesesteak!! Also, their ice cream is very creamy. Although there's only vanilla and chocolate. read more

Nice place! Service was great and staff was friendly and attentive. Outside and inside dining. Food was pretty good! Fried items were cooked perfectly. Ribeye meat is a good. Pizza cheesesteak was extremely greasy however.I know pepperoni is greasy in general but this was another level. It is an expensive place but they do give the kids free ice cream as an added bonus! Back in 2002, Keith rented a spot on the front lawn of the church on University Ave in Midtown Gville, set up a grill and a tent at every home Gator football game, and started selling his world famous Cheesesteak and sausage sandwiches. And then you're practically having to yell to order, or at least that was my experience. They cook to order so once I ordered I waited maybe 10 minutes at the window. The customer service also wasn't the best I'll add. My order ended up being wrong which just made matters worse. One thing to note is the entire menu is served the whole time they're open. Will I try it again? Maybe. It is pretty pricey and so far I'm not convinced you get what you pay for.

The place looks like it was being run by a hardworking couple. We checked out the menu and my wife ordered the Gyro Platter and I ordered the Souvlaki Platter. We also ordered a couple of fountain drinks. The gyro meat was well seasoned and tender. The Greek salad was quite good. The chicken souvlaki, however, seemed to lack flavor and a bit dry. Portions were quite generous and the value was there. We actually packed our leftovers for some quesadillas later. If we do go back, I would order the gyro instead of the chicken souvlaki. NOTE: They don't validate parking which was $3 for an hour

I pulled up and walked into the dealership, skirting my way around the sales folks that wanted to sell me a car, and found the cafe in the back near parts. I looked over the menu, and went for a Cuban sandwich. I had to wait about ten minutes for the sandwich to be made, which is fine. They make to-order, and there were a couple of others ahead of me, so all was good. These are not the huge Cuban sandwiches you may have had at other places (all of the ones I have had were in South Florida), but it is still a decent size and at a reasonable price for its size. I got out of there for under $10. The sandwich was good, and they are going to remain on my list of places that have possibilities during the lunchtime hour as they are relatively close to work for me.

We went during THE busiest time so we were lucky to find parking in the cramped but free parking lot. The hostess let us know there was a 35 min wait for indoor seating for 2. Outdoor seating was available, but we decided against it since it was a hot n sunny day in the 90s. We were ok with the wait and gave the hostess my name and phone number to get a text when the table was ready. While we waited, we walked to Serpentine plant shop across the parking lot and shopped a little. The text that our table was ready arrived 34 minutes so it was timed perfectly with the end of my shopping... we were seated soon after walking back into the restaurant. We had a corner table near the drink prep/coffee station so we had a front row seat to the preparing of many different teas and coffees while we decided what to order. A note about the table / seat size, we are skinny people and the seating fit us well but anyone somewhat wider would have trouble being comfortable. The high top tables might be a better option for those guests. The entire restaurant was packed when we came in and remained pretty full for our visit. There are 2 single-occupancy restrooms to the far left of the main entrance. They were clean enough and stocked appropriately. We were served by Jane and she answered all our menu questions. We ordered a cold matcha latte, chai latte, Mexican Coke, crispy potatoes, afternoon hash extra egg, 1/2 mushroom toast, and a turkey club no lettuce no bacon plus desserts (to go) chocolate chip cookie, puff pastry, and cinnamon roll. Jane brought out our to go desserts soon after the order. Our drinks arrived minutes after. However, our food took a bit longer (which we expected with a 100% full restaurant and Jane apologized for the wait, letting us know our food was on it's way about 20 minutes in) around 30 minutes. While we were waiting, there was punk rock / alt music in the background and a bunch of people's conversations going on so don't expect to have quiet dining if you go during a Saturday busy brunch. The Turkey Club was on thick Texas toast with dill in the mayo and tasted clean, fresh, like a delightful treat that grandma would make on a hot summer day. My husband's hash and crispy potatoes were the right amount of crunch and spice. The crispy potatoes had chunks of lime in it that were alarmingly sour but somehow complimented the dish. My mushroom toast had a delectable sauce topping with fresh scallions on french bread. We were very satisfied with our choices and had 1/2 my sandwich leftover plus our desserts to bring home. Many of the guests left empty plates when leaving so it seems their food is a hit! The only reason my "atmosphere" rating is missing a star is that our table was unfortunately near one of the restrooms so we would occasionally smell the disinfectant odor when someone opened the door. If there's a few words to describe these cheesesteaks you get here I would say is "Huge" "Tasty" and "Bellybusters" First off you get an option of having chicken or steak your choice. Second is your cheese, provolone, American, cheese wiz and sometimes Swiss if you ask. 3rd your toppings, you get an insane amount of toppings. I usually go with green peppers, sweet peppers, and some onions and of course you have to get some of that special "Big mills secret sauce" on it. It's a must have. If steak or chicken isn't your thing you can always get a Italian or polish sausage or a nice quarter pound hotdog that my brother always gets with cheese wiz on it and even a Burger if you want. But the real big thing there that a lot of people miss is there cheesesteak fries. It's a meal by it self. Rings up around 5 dollars and some change. I know they have some future items coming and now even serve ice cream and milkshakes that are very good. You should definitely try this place out if you like a good cheesesteak. Let me start by saying I hate giving bad reviews. In my 55 years on this planet, my experience here today was the worst I can remember. There were two people in front of me in line and it took me 11 minutes to place my order. The guy working the register had to have somebody help him every time someone ordered. That's fine, but after the fourth or fifth time, put somebody on there that knows what they're doing Then, The guy in front of me ordered two chocolate cones and after he had been sitting for five minutes, they came and said they didn't have cones and asked if he wanted his ice cream and a cup. When he asked for a refund, they said they didn't know how to do that POS system. The bathroom was absolutely filthy and the dining room look like it could use a cleaning. My wife and I went to Big Mill's Cheesesteaks for dinner. Despite having different taste buds, we both agreed that our sandwiches were GREAT! I got the Chicago Style cheesesteak with Au Jus for dipping. My sandwich was filled with meat and veggies as well as enough cheese to give the overall taste of a cheesesteak sandwich. Sometimes restaurants make the Au Jus dip too salty but not in this case. It was just right. We love Polish sausage but it is always challenging to find good one around here. Big Mill's sausage is delicious. Great flavor and taste! The staff greeted us with a smile when we walked in.
