First off the parking lot is like a mine field. Trying to navigate parking with my elderly mother was a task. And yes, this place will not win awards for fine dining establishment for its ambiance or decor. But it will always win best sandwich around in my book. I really love this sub place. I used to come as a student back in the 80s when it first opened and was called Hogan's Heroes back then. I'm assuming for a copyright violations they changed the name to Hogan's Great sandwiches, but the sandwich style remains the same. Menu board has remained pretty much unchanged for 40 years with exception of the names. Before the sandwiches used the names of the characters from the TV show, but since they changed the name of the shop, now they're just listed by their components, for example, ham, turkey, roast, beef, etc. This is a cash only establishment, so leave the plastic at home. Really love the sandwiches and it's a Gainesville establishment. If anybody remembers the old sandwich board from those hogans heroes days, drop a photo in a review one day. read more

Hogans is an icon in the Gainesville area, a legend amidst all the hustle and bustle of a college town, ever changing. Sometime you have to wait , sometimes like we do i highly recommend ordering on the phone, so your wait is only till you get through the line to the counter. The food is always amazing from there, their sandwiches remind me of back home when we go order a " grinder" (what we call subs up north.) Since my diet has changed i opted for a salad, and their sandwiches and salads are reasonably priced too. In search of lunch on route to Atlanta, I saw this option but it did not realize I selected this location that was further away from 75. A tour of Gainesville never hurt anyone, what's a other 30 minutes, right? Located in a very old strip mail, the small entrance with a filthy glass door worried me. We came this far...opening the door revealed a neighborhood pub/sandwich place where everyone knows your name! Sandwiches are good. I ordered a salad and it was bleh. I expected it to be amazing and it was not. The lettuce was old and brown and not many toppings for the price. It's a cash only place but they do have an ATM inside. They probably make good money off that. It's pretty smart of them to make the customer pay the ATM fees instead of them having to pay a debit or credit card fee. When I paid for the food, I didn't get my change (coins), but instead they thru it in the tip jar. Funny thing is, had they not done that, I would have given some dollar bills. They also don't give receipts. Pretty sketch. No cards and no receipts. They keep the soda machine behind the counter and charge a $1 for a refill. lol. This place is raking in the money. The hoagies are made fresh at their deli-style counter, with your choice of toppings and traditional sides such as Potato Salad, Macaroni Salad, etc. that you would find at a NY deli. The meat is sliced fresh and the bread even fresher, and you can taste it in every bite! My personal fave?: #1 with everything on it + peppers, seriously a party in my mouth! I love Publix but Hogan's gives them a run for their money! Now, I'll say, I don't believe I've truly had a stellar customer service experience here... or a terrible one, lol. We paid around $20 for the sandwiches. Drinks (2 beers and a tea) were around $10 extra. Hidden away in a rather empty plaza in north Gainesville, Hogan's serves up massive, delicious deli sandwiches. It took me a while to finally check it out but I'm so glad I did. I got a 12" corned beef and provolone sandwich with tons of toppings and that sandwich was LOADED. It was so big I ate half for dinner and half for lunch the next day. And the best part: it was only $10! You get so much food for your money here. There are over 20 sandwiches to choose from, along with salads, so you have tons of options. The only downside is that is cash only. They do have an ATM but MAKE SURE YOU BRING CASH WHEN YOU COME. In the back is a bar, with seemingly good deals on beer so maybe I'll come back some time when I'm more free to check that out. I stopped in at Hogan's for lunch recently. It has been a good long time since I have been here, and it is a bit off the beaten path for me in the first place. It hasn't really changed. There is still the big sandwich counter right at the front of the place, and then the back is dedicated to the bar area. Wartime memorabilia still adorns the walls, which is a nice touch in my eyes. I used to go to the other location in town (which I understand was not under the same ownership) but they have since closed (quite some time ago, actually). The sandwiches here are still excellent, and I was served well. My order was taken without issue, and I got the (large) sandwich that they are known for. After reading some of the reviews I figured it would be worth it to hit an atm to get cash out (which I never carry) and stop in for a try. Place is filthy. Sign in the bathroom says employees must wash hands, but the soap was empty. Ordered a roast beef sub. Gross. Don't even want the other half. The meat they use is that gross plastic consistency that sours if left out too long. The bread was stale. I couldn't believe some of the reviews this place got and this was my experience. Seriously, I know my sandwiches and this place is a huge waste of time and money. It took 15 minutes to slap together a simple sub. Save yourself a bunch of time and money and just go across the parking lot to Wawa. The quality is so much better, it's cheaper, and damn sure quicker, and absolutely cleaner, plus they take cash OR card.
