The "previously owned" diapers (calling them "used" didn't seem to be the right way to describe them!) are pricey but Selena who was working on Sat. was so friendly and helpful as I picked some out for my granddaughter. I will likely be back for their other new items--lots of great stuff for little ones. And their promotion of cloth diapers is a big plus for me--keep those disposables out of landfills! read more

I took a cloth diaper seminar at Isis Maternity, and boy was it helpful! Selina came and was fantastic. Really explained how easy things really are, my husband is now even a fan and no longer afraid! Looking forward to going into the store and picking up a stash for a newborn, and then doing a trial to see what works best for our baby once we are past the newborn phase. If you are thinking at all of cloth diapering, go! You will definitely be a convert and find something that works for you. read more

In order to save some cash my boyfriend and I made the executive plan to cloth diaper. I'm 20 weeks along and just last weekend we attended the cloth diaper workshop at Diaper Lab. I couldn't tell you how HAPPY I was to have found the class online. For a whopping $15 we learned everything we needed to know about cloth diapers. It answered every single question I had (I really didn't know much about it other than that I'd be doing a lot of laundry!!!). The class is 1 1/2 hours long and it's hosted by Jen and she is awesome. She's quite a character and she knows her stuff. She makes it clear that everything is her opinion (other than the facts of how the diapers work & how to launder them) and that you should stick with what works best for you and your baby's body. She talks really really fast but let's face it- with only a 1 1/2 hour session she has a lot to cover! There wasn't one moment where I felt I couldn't catch up. She showed us how to use prefolds & covers, all in ones, two in ones, etc. and she let us practice on her little teddy bear friend. I highly recommend this class to anyone who is considering cloth diapering! read more

The one star is for the class they offer on cloth diapers, otherwise they deserve zero stars. I never thought I would be writing this, but feel compelled to do so. I made the mistake of signing up for their most expensive 3 month infant cloth diaper rental for over $300. They tell you to sign up early so that they can accommodate, and that they will work with you to ensure you get what you need....for $375....I hope so! Well, my baby was going to come earlier than planned and I was to be induced, so they moved up my rental date up and I was told by Jen(?) that the sizes they provided me were the smallest they had when I picked them up - since I was delivering early I needed smaller sizes. I ended up having complications and my daughter was born @ 4lbs and with a heart condition, so we weren't able to use the supplied diapers for months. When I got some of my sanity back and wasn't in and out of the hospital for the next month, I called and spoke to the manager to explain the situation and to see if they would allow for me to extend my rental for a month since she was only able to fit into what they supplied 2 months into the rental, leaving me one month of use. She said I could extend if I paid an additional $75! I explained again that I was told the diapers supplied to me were the smallest they had and certainly couldn't return them for their use by other customers since I was in the hospital and trying to care for our daughter staying up 22 hours a day for weeks! She asked if I read the contract and they wouldn't be able to accommodate me and extend for another month for free, unless I was willing to pay another $75, despite my not being able to use them....so we paid $375 for use of diapers that fit her for a month of which we didn't even use for the whole month left on the rental.....my opinion is they only care about getting paid and don't have a process to accommodate unique situations. She told me that she would speak to the owner, but if I don't hear back that I will need to return the diapers as scheduled....I never heard back from anyone....we will be returning the rented diapers and will NEVER return again....I will also ensure everyone I know is aware of the lack of concern for their customers. They certainly made sure I wouldn't be a return customer! If you are an expecting mom that may have complications....I highly suggest you not sign up for their diaper rental! It is an absolute shame that a small local business wouldn't be more customer service oriented....the downfall of businesses today. I should have just purchased cloth diapers from the consignment store on Mass Ave in Arlington....it would have been A LOT cheaper!! read more

I was really excited to come check out the diaper lab, unfortunately our experience was less thrilling than I expected. (Sunday Sept. 18th) As first time soon to be parents we really had no idea what we where walking into, I hoped to have boatloads of information thrown at me about cloth diapering, but that was not the case. When we first arrived we where the only ones in the store and the one girl working didn't ask us if we needed help with anything, after about 10 minutes of walking around having no idea what we where even looking at the store filled up with customers and the girl working got less and less attentive. After about 20 minutes in the store I waited in line behind a woman buying something so I could ask the woman for some opinions on the diapers I had put on my registry (they didn't sell them in the store) In-between what seemed like a texting fight with someone on her cell phone, she googled the product and said "never heard of them" and offered no guidance what so ever... I love the idea of this place and it seemed like they had a lot of options, but after driving all the way from Peabody to check it out and getting no help at all I'm not sure if I would go back. Maybe the only way to learn is by paying for there classes? We didn't have the time for classes so I guess we'll have to try to figure it out on our own :/ read more

Judging by the other reviews, we may have caught them on a bad day, but they were really unpleasant to us last weekend. We asked if we could bring our dog in, were told yes, and then two minutes later were very rudely told to take him out by another employee who seemed to be the manager. OK. No need to snap at us, friend. They didn't have any of the items that were on our friend's registry, and instead of giving us clear answers on when the items could be in stock they tried to get us to buy other items instead. Hmm...no. We want to buy our friend the things she asked for. All in all, unpleasant and won't be going back. Too bad -- generally happy to support a small business. read more

I received a gift certificate for diaper lab from a friend and went there one Saturday afternoon. The store has a wide selection of cloth diaper prefolds and covers in a variety of sizes. Because I am a new parent, I really had no idea what I was looking for despite my internet reading. Unfortunately the employee working that day took her sweet time to provide any guidance, making it an inefficient experience for me. When the employee finally did attempt to provide guidance on buying covers for a newborn, the information was incorrect. The covers I bought where one-size, which do not fit a newborn baby well ( as opposed to size extra small, or a specific newborn size cover) . In addition, the prefolds I was directed to buy are also too large for a newborn. Although there are a few classes for cloth diapering, the store location is so out of the way for me and the advice I received was so misguided that I will not be going back. The reason why I still think the store deserves 4 stars is that it is the only place to get many cloth diapering supplies in the Boston area. They also has a couple of diaper package options that would allow new parents to try out different brands of cloth diapers easily without making a huge investment up front. read more

i really WANT to give Diaper lab five stars...i do. there are some things that they do fantastically -- my husband and i in particular found their intro to cloth diapers and babywearing classes really informative and useful, and we've gone back a few times when we got different types of carriers and were given good instruction/help in using them properly, which put our minds at ease. there are a few reasons why i can only, in good conscience, give them three stars, though. the first is that they don't seem to have a good handle on their stock. they are constantly out of even basic things (such as prefolds, Snappis, and diaper pail liners), and i have found their website to be really out of line with what they *actually* have in stock. they have been really great about ordering us what we needed, but it's a little irritating that they can't seem to keep the basics in stock on a consistent basis. the other main reason is that their staff is sometimes a bit - well - prickly. i think it depends on which employee is working in the store at any given point - we've definitely gone in and gotten stellar help and service some times, but other times, we've felt like the staff was totally ignoring us (or, honestly, being a little dismissive and rushing us when we tried to ask questions about products). again, i think it depends on who you get helping you, as some of the staff are fantastic (one woman in particular, who talked with me about shoulder injuries and carriers, was great). overall, i like them, and will keep going back, i just wish they'd get a bit of a better handle on their stock (and, in some cases, their attitudes towards customers). read more

I have been shopping at Diaper Lab for 3 years now and I can't recommend it enough. Salina and Jen are incredibly friendly, honest, and helpful with advice and info for any question you throw at them. What I really appreciate is that everything in the store is curated. As a first time mom, and now even on my second time around, you don't necessarily know what you need or what features/qualities are important in a product. Diaper Lab has done the research for you, used the products themselves, and talk to their customers all the time for feedback. That's why I keep coming back--it's value you just can't get on line. When my first daughter was born a little early and small, Salina reworked our newborn rental package to fit her and gave us hands-on instruction for diapering a squirmy, tiny tot. I have never been disappointed in a purchase over the past 3 years--really! From diapers (of course), wet bags, nursing products, lunch accessories, detergent and a bonnet that my daughter gets endless compliments about. And I have to mention the diapering class I took with Jen--she went over everything from selecting, cleaning, and how to put on a diaper. It was well-paced, thorough, confidence building and had me laughing until I cried. Diaper Lab is a local treasure for families. It can get busy and crowded on weekends. Call ahead or go off hours to have plenty of time for questions and browsing. read more

Yesterday's unfortunate conversation with you was no different. It would never enter my head to describe my partner in life and my wife, legally speaking, as my "friend." I don't wish to harp on about this any longer, but I very much want you to be aware of what you did and did not say to us. 2. I was with Nina when she picked up the phone to speak to you about our ongoing and unresolved issues with your website. She absolutely did not start out the call with a rude and frustrated tone. I would have picked up on that immediately, and to be honest, I wasn't even paying attention to the conversation until she reacted with surprise and upset when you said "anyone who can turn on a computer can figure out what to do." The fact that your website is posing problems is something you should accept responsibility and apologize for, not pass the buck to someone else, least of all, a customer, whose baby registry would have sent quite a bit of income your way. That response was patronizing and belittling and I believe that our reactions were warranted. The follow up conversation was equally incredible, as you continued to talk over me until I asked you to stop and to listen. I'm not sure where or if you have ever studied the science of customer service, but there are quite a few courses in the Boston area if you are interested. I already had my full stash of diapers but they've been great about troubleshooting with me and spending not insubstantial time providing advice. The staff at diaper lab is so helpful and nice!! I did the 2 week trial at first and then ordered a couple dozen diapers for my two kids. When it turned out that a bunch of my diapers were mislabeled and HUGE, they went out of their way to help me quickly order replacements in another style and gave me an immediate and full refund on those messed up diapers. I get the feeling that this kind of error is rare and I can't imagine what a nightmare it would have been if I had ordered them from a random website with the cheapest price. read more

We took the diaper class and found it extremely informative. We didn't know anything about cloth diapers and expected mostly a sales pitch with some good tips. Instead, the hour and a half class was packed with useful information, presented in a clear, often humorous way and there was no attempt to sell us anything. We found it to be an extremely good use of our time and helped us make smart decisions given the overwhelming number of cloth diaper options. The staff was friendly and informative. We now feel like we have a resource and a support for all of our cloth diapering questions. read more

Just had an awful experience at Diaper Lab in Somerville. Went there today with my daughter who is expecting. We entered this tiny shop and there were two other young women there who were very pregnant and seemed to be waiting for help. The sales person was in a long personal conversation with another customer about how best to get all poop stains out of diapers, endless back and forth about soaps, water types, diaper types etc. etc. All the while the sales person is putting prices on things on her desk. And all the while three very pregnant women waited patiently for so much as a "welcome", "may I help you?", "I'll be with you in just a minute". Never happened and so after waiting around and getting more and more irritated by the endless obsessive personal conversation between the sales person and Mom who was looking for advice, we left. This past weekend my husband and I attended a cloth diapering workshop. We're expecting our first baby in the fall and I was feeling very overwhelmed by all the cloth diaper options, the lingo, etc.! Attending this workshop really laid out all the options, all the different styles, how to use them, gave us some hands-on practice, and really eased my mind about the direction we want to take! The only complaint would be that the class was held in a really small, filled room right next to a room where major construction was going on. It was hot in the room and the noise from the construction was so loud and distracting. But otherwise, the information was really great and so helpful and the instructor, Jen, was knowledgeable and kind! I'd suggest taking a class here to anyone considering cloth diapering. My husband and I will definitely back to make some purchases once we decide what type of diapers we want to use! read more
