Let me start by saying we pulled into #DiamondsDirect after leaving a competitor, telling each other "we'll go in, tell them we're not buying, we just want to see what's in our budget." After checking in with a few pressuring competitors, we were basically ready to be done for the time being.
The atmosphere when walking into Diamonds Direct was completely different. We walked into a store buzzing with excitement, and had to wait a few minutes to have someone meet with us, rather than having sales people rushing to our side.
We met with Paul Locklear, who, I promise, changed how we looked at jewelry. Being a young couple, only 6 years in our relationship, we knew we were ready to commit to marriage, but not to spending an exorbitant amount of money on jewelry that wasn't something we would appreciate 50 years down the road. However, my soon-to-be fiancé is in a PhD program, so we didn't have the greatest finances towards starting our future together. We are currently debt free- and after this trip- we still are!
Explaining this to Paul was intimidating, as it had been multiple times in the past to jewelers, but his response was magical. He asked us our budget, wrote it down, and set it aside. Then he took out a brochure, and went through each detail of a diamond that we had never looked into before.
Paul asked us if we were willing to do a solitaire ring. After visiting so many sites and stores, sure, we'll look at anything in our price range. Let me preface by saying, we're an emotional couple. His mother gave us her original wedding bands to use for ours. Paul picked up on this, and offered to size and polish the bands if we found a ring that fit "us."
I work in sales myself, so I understand the "good, better, best" tactic. However what Paul did was completely different. He pulled out 3 solo diamonds in our budget, hid the GIA specifications (by now he has taught us what these specs are) and laid them out for us to view. He asked us to examine the diamonds, and tell him which ones we liked and didn't like, and why.
In the end, we chose the diamond, not Paul, and we got our FIRST CHOICE. Not to mention at a price that I couldn't believe was possible.
I've seen the diamond, and the finished bands (that fit perfectly), but not the finished ring. I've been personally partial to a jeweler local to my hometown, that not only did Paul come from, but knew the owner and manager of the jeweler that sold my parents the first diamonds ever given to me. Now, my soon-to-be fiancé has seen my finished ring, and showing him again my diamonds from this previous jeweler, he is even more certain that we have received the best value we could ever expect.
I have been so pleased with our experience at Diamonds Direct, and I will tell all of my friends and family to give them a try before going anywhere else. Paul Locklear especially deserves great praise, coming from a couple that values quality, and great service above all else.
Thank you, Paul, you have changed our lives! read more
