I love Lee and Donna at Joint Venture! My boyfriend and I went in to pick out an engagement ring after two failed attempt at Jared's (where they forgot who we were and felt pressured to buy something each time). My experience with Joint Venture was the exact opposite! Lee remembered me from our conversation on the phone a few days prior, and I felt like they were friends going ring shopping with me. I told Lee and Donna that honestly, I wasn't sure what exactly I wanted, but I had a vague sense. They both listed very carefully to what I wanted, and had me try on different rings to help me figure out my style. Early on, my boyfriend saw something he liked in another case, and I tried that on. After trying on another dozen rings for about 30 minutes past their closing time, I realized I loved the one my boyfriend had picked out at the start. Lee and Donna weren't remotely upset that we were still there past close. They were both genuinely excited for us, asked us how we met, etc. Lee and Donna clearly love what they do and genuinely want to help you find the perfect ring. I had a family ring appraised here, wanting to know about its age and possible provenance. When I walked in, Jen greeted me and instantly made me feel welcome and comfortable. She talked with me about the appraisal process, welcoming and answering my questions. I felt completely comfortable leaving the ring with them for a couple of days. The price was $75; they offered me the choice of paying then or paying when I picked up the appraisal and ring. (They do offer appraisals while you wait for a slightly higher cost -- $100 -- but as I said, I felt comfortable leaving the jewelry.) Lee performed the appraisal and provided detailed written documentation about his findings. He didn't write up information about the age of the ring (it not being part of the standard appraisal), but I asked about it when I picked up the ring and appraisal, and he was happy to talk to me about it right then and there. He explained how the cut of the diamond tells what decade it came from, and that the diamond in my ring was from the 1960s. It was a really friendly and satisfying process. Both times I went into the store, one of their other staff members was helping other customers look at the estate and vintage pieces they have for sale. I was really impressed with the level of service I overheard -- they're both highly knowledgeable and really chill and friendly. I'm always kind of nervous about getting high-pressure sales tactics in a jewelry store, but there was absolutely none of that at Joint Venture Jewelry that I could see. They're happy to just chat about the pieces and what the customer likes. As another reviewer mentioned, their website is great. We have been customers of Joint Venture for close to 13 years and have purchased several pieces of unique and beautiful jewelry from them. Over the years, my husband or the both of us of been in to select a piece of jewelry to commemorate anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions. So naturally, when we decided to have the diamond from my engagement ring re-set there was only one choice - Joint Venture Jewelry. We are pretty sentimental people so wanted to keep the original diamond my husband bought me 30 years ago instead of upgrading. Still, we wanted the diamond to be presented, if you will, in it's best light. It is a beautiful diamond but not a very large stone and was reset by another jeweler about 15 years ago. That setting did not do the stone justice at all. I didn't want to make the same mistake twice. As soon as she saw my diamond, Donna knew the perfect mount for it. She pulled out a vintage inspired Tacori set that suited my taste and the diamond perfectly but she patiently let me see try countless mounts to make sure it was the one for me. I'm very fortunate to have found this jeweler. This is a family owned and operated establishment that makes you feel like one of the family when you walk in. I found Joint Venture while searching for jewelers in Cary for a custom ring job. After visiting other jewelers in the area I found Joint Venture to be the best, non-pretentious, non-pushy, and most down-to-earth jewelers around. After talking with Donna and Carley for just a little while I felt as though I'd known them for a long time, and was thankful that they understood and appreciated my ideas for the custom ring. I can't say enough about how great our experience has been with Joint Venture (but here I'll go anyway, with a long review)! This summer I decided it was finally time to repair a sentimental sterling silver ring with a bent band. I figured it was a good excuse to check out Joint Venture too, since a friend recommended it for vintage rings! While dropping off my sterling ring, I told Donna that I wanted to glance at vintage engagement rings; I mentioned that we were definitely approaching but weren't quite ready for engagement yet. I was honestly shocked to find about 5 rings that I really liked, since I had looked at their website multiple times before coming to the store and nothing stood out at all. Donna quickly identified my preferences and pulled out a nice selection of Art Deco rings that were right up my alley. She suggested that I bring my boyfriend along when I came to pick up my repaired ring, so he could at least see what I liked. She was very helpful, without being pushy at all. I did bring my boyfriend back with me, and Donna was happy to take time to pull out the rings again and she wrote down my favorite one for my BF. I also picked up my repaired sterling ring; the band was perfectly round again and it was more sparkly clean than it had ever been! Lee did a great job on the repair, and I'll definitely go back for any future repair needs. Over the next couple months I looked at my favorite Joint Venture ring a lot on their website, especially while doing a TON of internet scouring to find backup options in case someone else snagged my favorite before my BF did. I only found one ring online that I liked as much as the one from Joint Venture, and I actually decided at one point that I liked it better while comparing it to the low quality photo on the Joint Venture website. During all my online searching, my boyfriend decided to buy the ring I loved at Joint Venture, and Donna even helped him try to hide it from me by agreeing to leave my ring listed on their website so I wouldn't know it was purchased! That is seriously going the extra mile! My BF proposed last week and all I can say is WOW... the ring is SO much more beautiful than I remembered and it couldn't be any more perfect for me. I didn't want a huge rock or something that cost a month's paycheck; I wanted interesting, detailed and unique, and Joint Venture delivered! Truly, the ONLY thing I think Joint Venture really needs to improve is their photos of jewelry on their website. Having only a single picture of a piece, often without great focus or lighting, really plays down the great pieces they have to offer. If I lived further away, it's possible I would have never bothered to walk into their store based on what I saw on the website. The one benefit was that my ring was such a surprise when I finally got to slip it on my finger 4 months after last seeing it in person! I had a really refreshing and wonderful experience at Joint Venture just yesterday! I walked in and felt immediately comfortable and welcome in the atmosphere. Jen greeted me, and I told her my story, that I had my grandmother's engagement ring but she had lost the stone a long time ago, and wasn't in the greatest condition, but that I wanted to try to restore the ring so that it could still be utilized for an engagement ring. It is the ring that my grandfather proposed with, and they were happily married for more than 60 years, so the ring has a strong sentimental value to me. I had previously heard other suggestions to completely redesign the ring rather than restore it, which while I'm sure would be beautiful, it wasn't what I wanted. I was relieved when Jen immediately started to brainstorm options to retain the integrity of my grandmother's ring, and even got out some loose diamonds to give me a general idea of what the ring could look like with a stone replaced inside the setting. Jen and Donna helped to completely restore my confidence that the ring could be reconditioned. I felt very reassured, and most importantly to me, I felt understood. I really felt like Jen and Donna really wanted to help me achieve my goal, which was to one day wear my grandmother's ring while making sure it still looks like my grandmother's ring. Donna said to me, "every time you look down at that ring, you'll think of your grandmother." That was EXACTLY what I am looking for. Very poor experience. My wife's engagement ring was damaged while resizing. Store refused to repair. Insisted we pay $500.

Beware!!!! They said they would consign my ring for 50%, and we agreed upon selling the ring for 2K and I would receive 1K. Instead they listed the ring for 3K, the ring of course never sold and they failed to meet their obligation to lower their asking price even upon reminding them of our contract. Now I have my ring back and it looks like they have replaced the main diamond with a smaller flawed diamond. I am in the process of taking the prior appraisal containing details and photos to a reputable jeweler to confirm before I take this to the next level. read more

Until a 1.5 years ago, I thought this was a great jeweler. That said, they defrauded my husband by selling him a diamond and emerald ring, which I found out a year later contained green stones. I use the word defrauded because even I was able to identify it as glass at a reputable jeweler due to the air bubbles in the glass and the ring had been marked as having emeralds and my husband was told that it contained genuine emeralds. When I called to nicely clear up the issue, I was accused of trying to defraud them by replacing the supposedly-real emeralds with glass myself and the owner then proceeded to scream and yell at me until I was in tears. read more

Where do I begin? These people are a bunch a crooks. They gave my sister a gift card to use in there store for $100. She went in to use her $100 gift card and was told by one of the owners and that she wasn't allowed to use her gift card because it was "written" wrong. She got it at a charity silent auction so she was excited to get use it finally. They refused to give her credit for the discount and she ended up spending $40 on a dress that she should've gotten for free. Also, on the occasions I've popped into the store (waiting for my food next door) the family is in the back yelling at each other which makes me as a customer uncomfortable and not willing to look around. And at one point I'm pretty sure I heard them whispering about a previous customer and it wasn't nice things, so beware. read more

After doing some cursory on-line reference, I selected Joint Venture Jewelry to remake my mother's wedding and engagement ring set from a picture! My 89 year old mother who is in a nursing home, had her rings stolen off her finger! She and my father were married for 55 years. You can image her and the whole family's despair when they could not be located. Lessons learned for us - make sure you have good pictures of loved ones jewelry and have insurance on them. Well, we did not have either, so I found as many pictures as possible and met with Donna. After three CAD drawings and trying to determine the age, etc., the final result was beautiful and very close to what we all remember her rings looking like!! Donna and Lee were wonderful to work with - efficient, friendly and very knowledgeable about the design process. Donna worked with me and the nursing home for replacement costs and we are very grateful. This set was a full custom set and I will continue to do business with JVJ for all of my future needs. SELLERS BEWARE!!! I was with my mother 2 years ago (Aug 2014) when she brought in both her wedding ring and the wrap/guard. She signed a contract at this time for her pieces to remain on consignment for 2 years. This past May, she decided that these were pieces that she really didn't want to lose. She called Joint Ventures and asked that the pieces be pulled from consignment and not sold. The employee she spoke with on the phone told her that would be fine. She could pick them up and pay the fees for doing so. She also told her that there was no rush and the pieces could still be picked up by August. My mother thought she'd be able to pick them up sooner but once July rolled around she thought she should call just to make sure everything was ok and her jewelry was still in place. She called on 7/9/2016 and spoke to someone (Liz) who again confirmed that her jewelry had not been sold and was available for her to pick up. She then received an email on 7/11/2016 from one of the owners stating that only the wedding ring was available for pickup but the wrap/guard was on layaway for a customer to be picked up in the fall. My mother sent several unanswered emails to the owner reminding her that she'd requested the pieces be pulled and the layaway transaction should not be completed. When my mom and I arrived at the store to pick up her pieces in August, of course we were told that the wrap/guard was not available to return because it was on layaway for a customer. We were furious and immediately called the police. Once the police arrived, their story changed and the owners produced some type of paperwork that stated the customer closed the layaway by picking up the piece and made final payment on 7/29/2016. They also told the police that this layaway was opened in May2016, the exact same month that my mother asked the store to pull the items from consignment.They offered my mother $150 for the piece and no explanation for why they did not honor her request for the items to be removed from consignment. I have an explanation, they are crooks and decided they would like to keep the piece and maybe $150 would be enough to make my mother go away. read more

Long review but a good read!: On December 18, 2016 my boyfriend of 6 years asked me to marry him! It was the most exciting moment in my life thus far!! First of all they are way overpriced for the type of vintage jewelry they offer and secondly the owners have this snotty better than you attitude. One minute you will be talking to the wife and the next she will see someone with a bigger wallet and leave you in the dust. He was unpleasant when I wanted to check on a better price for the first item he was interested in. I didn't even show him some things because of his attitude. I consigned an engagement and wedding ring set in Spring of 2014. I waited and waited and never heard a word about whether it sold or not. I know it can take time so I decided to check the website in Feb2016. My ring was there and said sold. I emailed the store asking why I hadn't heard anything about this. They swore it was not my ring but one that looked exactly like it. I honestly don't believe that but I went along with it. They suggested to sell mine faster that we should lower the price so I did. I checked back again in May and poof, they said my ring had just gone on layaway. I never even knew there was a layaway option. I emailed again to check in in Sep2016. Still on layaway. I emailed today and they say they mailed a check out on 11/18. However, they mailed it to the wrong address. Now they will only cancel the check and write a new one if I pay them $50. I refuse and the owner doesn't care. Apparently, we will be waiting for the check to be returned to them then reissued to me. Let's see if it actually gets returned and they admit it (it probably won't forward to me because I moved over 2 years ago-yes I should've updated the address but couldn't they take the time to notify their consignors that their pieces sold and verify their address before mailing the check?!?). I'm extremely dissatisfied with the way this business treats their consignors. Without us, they wouldn't have a business. I will never consign or shop here again and I wouldn't recommend that anyone else do so. They definitely haven't earned my trust. read more
