Would not recommend them with high carat gold. Wanted to turn my 24k gold into other jewelry and they did a scratch test to test the gold. They stated it was 22k. As a jeweler, they should know scratch tests are not meant for higher carat gold but a xrf or pmi gun. Took it to a pawn shop for testing and even the jewel recycle and they both confirmed it was 24k. Them being jewelers, they should know this and not try to scam customers. Their work is amazing from what I have seen but I can not trust them. Beware. read more

I can't speak highly enough about my experience at Jewelsmith. I am working with Deloris but I'd be willing to bet that each designer is just as amazing. I originally found Jewelsmith because I wanted to create a custom wedding band for my fiancé. I ended up getting my engagement ring resized and appraised and will commission them for his ring. Those experiences went so well, I referred them to my Mom. We lost my father earlier last year and she didn't want to just leave his wedding band in a drawer. Cue, Deloris. She turned my Dad's band into a stunning pair of earrings that my Mom refuses to take off. Watching her face beam with excitement to be able to have a piece of him with her everyday is priceless. I recently needed to have a ring appraised and took it to Jewelsmith for this service. When I got there I was told I had to leave my ring there for 4 weeks to have it looked at. I was expecting the one hour appointment would allow them to do the appraisal at the time. I chose to take my ring to another appraisal company and they were able to do it at that appointment as I had expected. I wish they had made their policy clear on their web site or when I made the appointment. Very disappointing. read more

I'm sure many people might think, "they're out of my price range I can't possibly afford custom made jewelry from them." I still heart this place. But getting my custom wedding band done here wasn't as flawless an experience as the engagement ring had been. The day we came in for a consultation, they were busy and we got paired up with an appraiser. I do want to say that she is an absolute sweetheart (who dealt sagely with my bickering about what I wanted vs. what my fiance thought I should want) and clearly knowledgeable about jewelry. However I don't think custom orders are something she works with regularly. So unfortunately, we felt kind of on our own in the design process and the disconnect between client and salesman was even more evident when we saw the finished product. I was surprised that Jewelsmith had very little to show us by way of example. The shop is on the small side, but since they do so much custom work and have done lots of bypasses before, I thought for sure they'd have pictures of wedding bands we could model mine after. But no such luck. So basically, we were expected to help come up with a pencil sketch out of thin air! The turn-around time was pretty speedy and about a month later I was trying on the real deal. Only it was nothing like I'd imagined. The pencil sketch didn't translate well. And there were things I felt I should have been asked, general points of taste, that would have saved the design. Besides that, though, the bands didn't even flush together (which is very evident in a bypass design). I didn't want to be overly emotional about it, so I agreed to take the ring home and test-drive it. I wore it for a week when I decided it wasn't right for me to just suck it up and be stuck with something I didn't like. I returned to talk with them about why the ring didn't work for me. This time, we were paired with an actual consultant and a goldsmith as well. They were both exceedingly patient and kind, and asked the right questions. After the meeting, they said they had a much better understanding about what I wanted and were sorry the person we worked with the first time around hadn't asked those same questions, mentioning that appraisers don't really specialize in custom orders. They re-did my entire ring and they rushed it. The result is a band that matches my engagement ring in both design and fit. We've been so pleased with the quality of their work and their customer service, that Phil also had them tweak his already-purchased wedding band. I definitely recommend Jewelsmith for custom work, but suggest you make sure you're 100% comfortable with your requested design before you let them put it into action. read more

In a nutshell: Perfection, beauty, and integrity at a more than fair price.  I have had 2 pieces of custom jewelry made at Jewelsmith in the past couple of years: a simple, modern diamond necklace, and a pair of intricate, vintage style sapphire and diamond earrings which they replicated from a pair of antiques. I've also had jewelry appraised and cleaned there.   Most recently, for the earrings, Mary was the designer and Molly and Patrick were the designer/goldsmiths. I have found them to have a ton of expertise and creativity. I might say they are wizards - it seems they can make anything happen! They very clearly put a lot of time, effort, diligence, and pride into their work. They went above and beyond to make my jewelry exactly as I wanted and even made significant upgrades to assure that it was just perfect, all while honoring the original quote. I think they've won me as a customer for life. Patrick was absolutely fantastic to work with. After we got engaged, my wife and I wanted to work with a custom jeweler to design an engagement ring for her, but had very limited experience. Patrick was extremely patient throughout the process and worked with us through several iterations of the design until we had something that we were excited about. He was upfront and accurate with all estimates. Later I wanted to give her a matching set of earrings and necklace as a wedding gift. We worked through one set of designs that ended up being too expensive (my fault for not providing a budget up front). It's a cute boutique. They have some really special and unique pieces in the store. But Jon and I ventured in on a recommendation from one of my coworkers who raved about this place. We knew they had exactly what we were looking for so that was our spot. They also give a nice discount to Duke Employees. So we pick our rings. They arrive. The first ring brought out to Jon wasn't even the correct one. It seriously could fit around the ankle of a rhino. The second ring that was brought to him ALSO wasn't the ring we ordered. That ring actually fit around two of Jon's fingers. "Maybe you ate a lot of salt when you got your ring fitted before?" really???? Jon had to send his back. NOTE: we're 2 weeks away from our wedding date My ring comes in a few days later and not to my surprise it's not the ring I ordered. Not even close. it's twice as big in every direction. So my ring has to be sent back. Neat. Two days before our wedding we get our rings in. They're a match... finally! Now, I understand mistakes happen and so on... but two for two? And a mere few days before our wedding? come on! I've come across some people in wedding planning the seriously did not give a hoot about the seriousness of planning such a stressful event. Jewelsmith definitely gave off that vibe. Sure they offered us stand-in rings for the wedding, but that's not really what we wanted and we gave them plenty of time to get our rings in. OH. I almost forgot... they overcharged us for the rings. So I had to go back and fix that with all the spare time I had in the days before getting married. We like our rings. We're happy we're married. My fiancee got my engagement ring from a jewelry store from Charlotte and I was looking for a spot in the Triangle area to resize my ring. It was recommended that we look for a store that specializes in custom jewelry work. Jewelsmith popped up on Yelp as spot to check out and and it was convenient for me since it was close to work. When I came in, I was helped immediately and it took less than 5 minutes to confirm with the jeweler that they can resize the ring. They quoted me $55 which I thought was reasonable and I had to wait a week. Longest week ever! When I got my ring, it fit perfectly. She told me that I can come in anytime for cleanings (every 6 months was recommended) and they also can examine the ring to make sure no damage has done all for free. As a person without any experience with high-end jewelry, I had been expecting to feel somewhat uncomfortable in a fancy jewelry store, and I was worried about being pressured into buying something more expensive than we wanted.
