I came on a whim to browse and no intention to buy anything. I just wanted to look at beautiful things. They were so very friendly, not pushy in the least. Also, they gave my engagement a free cleaning by hand, which I thought was only done by larger chain jewelers. The selection of jewelry was lovely--so many interesting pieces. read more

I went here to get a ring repaired and another ring sized. I'd been to a competitor a couple of years ago to get one of these same rings repaired. What a completely different experience. The sales people at Hamilton Hill were very warm and friendly. The goldsmith who was going to do the actual repair met with me, explained what he would be able to do and gave me a choice with the estimated cost. It was by far less expensive than the estimate I received from the competitor. I am very, very happy with the result and so glad I chose Hamilton Hill. read more

I can't begin to state the wonderful experience I had working with the amazing Sarah Hill! From the beginning, she was very accommodating and invested in helping me choose the right ring for my fiancée. Over the course of several months, she and her associate David kept in touch with me constantly (I live out of state), and were able to assist me with choosing the perfect diamond and setting. Also, she was great at providing prompt status reports along the way. I am immensely grateful that I wondered into her shop last year and ended up choosing the engagement ring there. I look forward to future jewelry shopping at Hamilton Hill Jewelry! read more

Hamilton Hill Jewelry - Jewelry Near Me - Durham, North Carolina

First class boutique jewelry shop with many beautiful and unique pieces. Incredibly friendly staff. Highly recommend.

This is where I would be jewelry for people if I were filthy rich. The jewelry is very modern and sleek. They feature several jewelsmiths and have recently brought in a co-located art gallery as well. Most pieces are pretty pricey, but if it's in your budget or you feel like splurging, then go for it. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and most of the jewelry is very eyecatching. read more

Another wonderful experience at Hamilton Hill today. I got a new Petra Meiren PVC bracelet with gold-played bar. I love it. It's comfy and classy for everyday wear. It's unique enough so that I get compliments and it doesn't jangle around on my wrist so I can type etc. Shelly, Amanda and Sarah are always a joy to be with and shopping doesn't feel like that; it feels like hanging out with friends. I never miss a chance to pet Billie, the shop mascot! I tell all my friends about HH and have even taken some cards to pass out and spread the word because I get so many compliments on my jewelry!! read more

I'm thrilled with the service that Sarah Hill and her team gave me. We chose a beautiful engagement ring that had to be specially made - just for me. When I started having multiple issues with the ring - Sarah went far above and beyond to help me correct the issues. Finally we decided to simply choose another ring, and she gave us full credit for the other one. This level of customer service is hard to find these days - I didn't expect it and was surprised and pleased. We'll be going back to Hamilton Hill in the future for sure! Their selection of modern jewelry is amazing - very distinctive. read more

*UPDATE* After posting my initial review with several concerns on pricing adjustments, I received a page long letter from the owner in the mail, along with a rerun for the extra (accidental) charge. As a business owner myself, I know personally that not every customer interaction can be 100% perfect, but their response to this one said a lot to me about the importance of their customers to their business. I really, really want to like this place. After inheriting some jewelry from my mom when she passed away last year, I was looking for a local shop with a little more style than your classic jewelry store. The women who have helped me have always been nothing but nice, and the final product has always been good work, but I've struggled with the transparency and timeliness of he work. Both times I've given them jewelry to be sized/repaired I was given a quote and timeline. Both times I was charged more when I picked it up than what I was quoted, and both times it took longer than expected. The first time this happened I got the run around every time I called until I eventually broke down in tears on the phone (they were resizing my mom's wedding band a week after she had died). Then they finally seemed to have it ready. The second time I went I wanted to see if that experience was a fluke, but I had a very similar experience. My boyfriend brought a necklace in, and they gave him a verbal estimate for a possible chain replacement. While I know it was just an estimate (~$200), the quote I received via email was $100 more than that. I decided to go with just the clasp repair ($63, as quoted via email), and when I picked it up was charged $97. I totally understand if there are labor costs associated, but I think it's important to be transparent with customers about this before making repairs, not afterwards. read more

Great store with creative designs and unusual (but tasteful) metals and stones. If you want a piece of jewelry that's unique and that you won't see on anyone else at a dinner party, this is your place. If you want customer service, make sure you dress for it, especially if you're a male under 50 (Normcore hasn't made it to Durham yet, so you're not going to get the hipster benefit of the doubt). If you don't dress the part, expect to have to ask for help, or chase down a sales person. The up-and-down scan and about-face from the eventually helpful salesperson was pretty telling. And, this place is strictly retail- no jeweler onsite when I was there. TLDR; Great jewelry with Trinity Park service. read more

The guy working here greeted me and a friend warmly and told us "Let me know if you see anything you can't live without." Well, as a matter of fact... No, no, Christina, stop. This trip is about your friend, remember, not about you. Yes, that's right. Over to the engagement ring case so she can browse and you can take mental notes to subtly guide her boyfriend with. Eek, they carry Majoral? Oh, alright then, just a :quick: peek at those sweet brushed disc earrings. ***Note to Phil, if he's reading! ;) And now on with the real assessment. Gotta love a jewelry joint that's not all snobbery. And this place definitely has that laid-back vibe. The nice sales associate took several different rings out of the case for my friend to try and offered helpful explanations on design and materials. HH has a great selection of international designers and carries lots of modern, bold, and statement jewelry. Recommended! read more

What a great store! Such a unique place with unique items. You won't find this kind of selection in the mall. If you want to have the same piece as 100 others, go to the mall. If you want something that no one else has, go to Hamilton-Hill. The staff is friendly and the selection is great. I could spend all day there! read more

Normally I wouldn't care about jewelry or other assorted "shiny things", but since I am married to a *girl*, I make allowances. I went in here with one budget, I came out spending oh, 5 times that? It was worth every penny. The piece I got required a lot of custom work, they did a great job. We just recently got it appraised, for a higher value than what I paid. Sarah Hill is amazing, really straightforward, she works really hard to "get you". read more

In the search for a wedding band, the Mrs and I choose Hamilton Hill over the rest. I believe it was their sincerity and good laughable nature that helped us decide to do business with them. Oh and the fact they had the best selection of men's wedding bands in Durham. The prices were cheaper than what you expect from a local speciality store, and Shelly (the employee who helped us) was a like a trusted friend - each of the 3 times we visited. So check them out if you live in Raleigh or Durham and need some jewelry for that next big occasion! You'll be happy you did! read more

My fiance and I came here to purchase my engagement ring and our wedding bands. I had visited a few times in the past and the owners were always extremely kind and gracious even though I never made a purchase. I love jewelry and had always admired their collection of artists so I liked to stop in from time to time to see what they had. From the beginning of the engagement ring search-process through wedding band shopping and to the end of the entire experience we felt very well taken care of. Sarah Hill answered all of our questions clearly and expertly and was extremely patient with me especially (I'm a perfectionist and since this was a big purchase for us I was very demanding!). They have gone above and beyond to make sure we are happy with our three rings--and we are! I love Hamilton Hill and especially Sarah for helping make this process fun and exciting--and helping my fiance (now husband) stay within his/our budget. Hamilton Hill has us as customers for life! read more

Nov 2, 2012 My wife & I went by to take a look, (we are in the jewelry business for 20+ years) Very nice shop. Greeted by the owner who was as nice as the shop. Great things, not over the top jewelry but very tasteful & user friendly jewelry- with some great designers. read more

Such a nice jewelry store! Yes, there are some extremely expensive pieces, but there is a large selection of pieces in all price ranges. I let Sarah and Shellie know my price range and like magicians they pull out the most flattering pieces for me to try on. I have made several purchases over the years and I am so happy with each one of them. read more

A colleague complimented me, "You have the best jewelry!" "I shop at the best store" was my reply. I love Hamilton Hill Jewelry and my jewelry. In 2006 Sarah Hill helped my then Fiancé and I select our Henrich & Denzel wedding rings. Each time, Sarah, Shelly and Muriel help me find a piece that makes me feel my best/special. Amazing choices. It feels like a party whenever I drop in. read more

Hands down our favorite Jeweler! I was looking for an engagement ring and didn't know where to begin so naturally I googled jewelers and had looked at a couple places but noticed Hamilton Hill and it's rave reviews. I walked in clueless about what I was doing, not sure how to pick out a ring and how much I would need to spend. One thing I did know was I wanted something unique and quality. Something that wasn't on every shelf of every Jeweler. Well when I walked in Shelly began helping me and quickly made me feel relaxed about the whole process. She showed me several designs and combinations and worked so patiently with me and my thousand questions and design concerns. Sarah and Murial, helped me as well. In fact the entire staff there were so great to work with and be around. Needless to say they also had some of the most unique jewelry I had ever seen and ended up getting a great engagement wedding band set for my future wife. We also got my band there as well. What was also a bonus is how awesome the store is, as it sits in Brightleaf square, an old tobacco warehouse turned retail space, made from giant timbers and old brick. All give the space a warm cozy feel that you don't want to leave And it's locally owned, which I try to support. It's so cool to know such a "gem" sits hidden in Durham. I almost wish I had more reasons to buy more jewelry just to keep coming back. read more

I'm from San Diego, CA and I was looking for a Furrer-Jacot carbon wedding band for myself for my wedding which was about 2 weeks out and had been emailing and calling around jewelers around the U.S. to compare overall pricing, which included the ring, shipping, and engraving. When I contacted Hamilton Hill, I was contacted by Muriel Tissonnier. She was very friendly, helpful, communicative, and patient with what I needed and was looking for. Plus, their store had the best overall pricing for me. I pulled the trigger to order the ring to be made at Furrer-Jacot's factory in Switzerland, because the factory had told her I would receive my ring on time. Unfortunately, they called her back a day after I had ordered and told her they had given her the wrong information and could not fulfill the order in time for my wedding. At that time, Muriel tried her best to see if there was anything the factory could do to get it out to me and the factory could not do a thing. Then, Muriel tried to see if she could get a different ring from them that could arrive in time and that also was not doable. She had also tried to source a different brand ring in-store or another of their stores that looked good to me and would fit me. There were none available in my size that fit my taste. Lastly, she even offered to send me a temporary ring while my Furrer-Jacot would have been made. In the end, I was cheerfully given a refund of my original order and sadly I was not able to purchase anything through Muriel. I wish I had called her earlier to get my ring in on time, but did not know the ring would be made overseas and the lead time needed for it. For anyone thinking of buying from this store, I highly recommend contacting Muriel as she will take great care of you and is a wonderful representation of the service you would come to expect from this store. Thanks Muriel! read more

Hamilton Hill offer a wide variety of carefully selected designer jewelry that is refreshingly unique, in contrast to many other stores. Their staff are very personable and knowledgeable. We entered the store purely in order to browse, but it became immediately clear that although their jewelry is exquisite, the price tags were reasonable. As we experienced first-hand, their customer service is great and they went to great lengths in order to accommodate us. read more

Excellent selection with even finer shopping experience. The staff is warm and welcoming and will guide you to the perfect jewel. Located in Brightleaf square, Hamilton Hill is Durham's finest jewelry store. Visit today and ask for Sara. She will be happy to help. read more

This place is fantastic and my goodness do they have some beautiful jewelry! Sarah has helped me with numerous things through the years but my favorite thing is when she helped me redesign a family ring that I inherited. Between her and the designer she used, they remade my mother's diamond engagement ring into a beautiful modern piece of jewelry. It's stunning. The store is so beautiful and the jewelry is so unique that it can feel intimidating but don't be intimidated by Hamilton Hill. They understand when a person says "here's my price range" and they don't try to pressure you to spend more. They are all very knowledgeable about the jewelry, they will show you all kinds of designs and combinations and really do spend a lot of time with you, regardless of what your price limit might be. It's a locally owned store located in an old tobacco warehouse/turned retail space in Brightleaf Square in Downtown Durham so if you are looking for unigue jewelry, things you won't find at a store at the mall, Hamilton Hill is your place. read more

My girlfriend (fiancee now) and I went to Hamilton Hill for our engagement rings. Shelly was amazing to work with and helped me through the whole process (since I had no idea really what i was doing). The jewelry might be a little more on the expensive side, but the time they take to make you feel welcome and the attention they gave us was definitely worth it! And despite our limited budgets, we found two amazing rings that fit our personalities perfectly. Definitely recommend for the LGBTQ community. You will feel welcomed and loved! read more

The selection of elegant, modern jewelry is unmatched, and I don't even live locally. I found Hamilton Hill because I needed to order a replacement wedding band for husband (sadly he misplaced his). Sarah and her team helped me find the exact one he had and place the order. Along the way, I discovered how much I loved HH's jewelry. The designers they feature are unique and timeless -- a hard combination to achieve, but they've done it! I always get compliments on my jewelry purchases and have had such a wonderful experience working with Sarah and her team. They are attentive, thoughtful and always thinking about what might be a good fit with my style. Highly recommend Hamilton Hill. read more

I can't say enough good things about my experience at Hamilton Hill. I worked with Shelly to choose an engagement ring, and over the month that it took me to pick one, she was patient, knowledgeable, and really fun to work with. Instead of feeling overwhelmed and stressed, like I did at the beginning of the process, Shelly's advice and expertise helped me enjoy the process of picking this significant piece of jewelry. I went to a few other jewelry stores at the beginning of my search, and none of them compared to Hamilton Hill in terms of the welcome I received, the jewelry in their store, and the way they helped me figure out exactly what I was looking for, even though I had no idea to begin with. My financee couldn't be happier with the engagement ring I finally picked, and now we're working with Shelly to pick our wedding bands. I recently worked with Sarah and was able to do what felt like the impossible securing a gift for my wife. Given the timeline and logistics I could not have asked for a better person or her team to follow through and make my deadline. Excellent taste and great suggestions I can not recommend this store enough. Approaching the big weekend for my wife and I - celebrating 20 years of marriage I can't wait to see the look on her face. I just need reasons to visit this area of NC to take my wife and thank them personally. The best customer service I've ever received hands down. read more

Hamilton Hill is, in addition to being a jewelry store, a haven of style, sophistication, and personal service in a chain store/mega online world. I worked with wonderful Sarah and her entire stellar staff for several weeks to liquidate some family jewelry I no longer wear, and then to reinvest the proceeds into pieces I love and will wear forever. The process of letting go of jewelry from my personal history was an emotional one at times, but Sarah was the perfect companion and guide. She gently encouraged me to keep certain pieces and helped me see how they could be restyled or refitted so that I now have rings and bracelets that are fresh and contemporary. For the pieces we liquidated, I have replacement stunners to wear, many drawn from the store's exciting inventory of work by major international jewelry artists. Our biggest project was creating a ring that I had dreamed of for a long time. Sarah indefatigably sourced the stones until she found the superior quality she was aiming for. She found a source for the unusual mounting I wanted, and then had fabulous house designer Ken assemble the final amazing piece! I am thrilled with all that we did. I cannot recommend Hamilton Hill highly enough. There, you can walk in and buy a bracelet or earrings made by a brilliant Catalan or Austrian or American or French or German designer, or you can tell Sarah, the jewelry expert and magician, what you dream of and she can make that dream come true. read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Hamilton Hill. My fiancé and I went looking for an engagement ring on the day we got engaged. We had been looking online and had found some more traditional rings that were pretty and we were planning on going with one of those. However, my mom suggested we look at Hamilton Hill too, just for comparison. Boy am I glad we did. What we found at Hamilton Hill was of a completely different caliber. Their pieces are unique but also tasteful and elegant. Although they are not traditional, they are also not gaudy or ostentatious. The pieces truly speak for themselves and many seem to have a timeless look to them. But one of the things I love most about Hamilton Hill are the gemologists who work there. We worked with Sarah, whose knowledge, attention to detail and personalized attention were truly remarkable. It made the exciting experience of purchasing an engagement ring that much more special for us because she took the time to get to know us as a couple. She really walked us through the process of having our family diamond re-cut and then understanding how the band would be shaped and angled based on my finger size and the size of the diamond. It could not have been a better experience and I am so thrilled to wear such a beautiful ring! Hopefully we will have many happy returns! read more
