This store is the BOMB! so it's part thrift and part really clever gifts AND they're open on a Sunday when many others are closed! I found the most perfect vintage-looking butterfly long dress... but I also bought a mini-fan that plugs into my phone! So fun!!! You have to just hang out and look at everything because there is so much to see. Also fell in love with the doll photography on the wall, (local artist), but loved the dress more. Aside from the tons o' tresses, Dolly's has ample cute factor with coin purses, bangles, retro lunchboxes, and other assorted gift-y items. I actually thought the vintage aspect of the store was down-played -- clothes are on racks in the back half and consist largely of retro tees, 80s prom dresses, and vintage nightgowns(?) Dolly's Vintage is unlike any other shop I have ever visited! There's an eclectic mix of old and new, local and universal, and funky and timeless. It is the perfect place to go for a truly unique gift, or just to browse around during a day on Durham's Main Street. While a lot of the shop embraces girly kitsch, there's also a guy's section full of Hawaiian shirts, beer paraphernalia, scout uniforms, and funky socks. My favorite items that I can't seem to find anywhere else but Dolly's are the colorful shoelaces and the collection of quality vintage lingerie. I am usually the type of person who grows frustrated after spending time in thrift shops that have rows of rows of things to search through. Since Dolly's is smaller, organized, and more curated, there's no stress! It's like shopping in a boutique. The staff are also helpful. I had a chance to speak with the owner, Larisa, about the shop and she seems to be SO passionate about what she does. An absolutely adorable Vintage boutique! In my quest for some Vintage dresses I followed the leads of Jennifer W. and Christina G. Not disappointed! What a wonderous magical land Dolly's is. Immediately smiles were bestowed upon that eager face of mine! Bright colors and fun displays. Antique lunch boxes. Funny t-shirts. Candies. Wigs. Toys. Shoes. Toys. Purses. Oh, and those clothes! Vintage delight! Vintage wear, gifts, trippy accessories, and so much more!!! Inspired by her Grandma Dolly, owner Jennifer Donner has a beautiful boutique that will take you away to another era. The hours are kind of a pain though being that the shop is only open from 10am to 5pm Tues through Sat. It's good that they have those Saturday hours because only being open from 10am to 5pm sure makes it hard to get there during the week unless you live or work nearby. I called one day after 5 and left a message on an answering machine without a greeting and never got a call back. The next day I tried again and spoke to the owner. So glad I did! She was super enthusiastic and helpful in telling me about her store and in what she had. Thankfully I was able to rush over there and pop by on a lunch break! I needed 40's of 50's (for a photo shoot) and she said she'd do everything she could help me find the perfect dress(es). I walked in and introduced myself. Jennifer was just as excited to help me as I was to explore her shop. She took me straight to the racks that might have the stuff I needed. I was going through dress by dress and smiling as I imagined the women who used to wear them. Then I turned around and looked up at the wall behind me. Oh glorious lovely lacey blue, pink, purple, and yellow dresses right out of a 1950's teenage prom dream! I asked to see them so she pulled them down. At $95 they were definitely of the range of what I wanted to spend, but in my hands precious treasures. I tried on two black 1940's dresses (think Audrey Hepburn) and two prom dresses. The black ones were a little big and needed alterations, but worth it. That pink 1950's prom dress with a tulle skirt and beautiful accents around the hemline....made for me. The owner excitedly declared, "Vintage suits you!" I smiled and replied, "yes it does. I love it." Ps. I've already worn 2 of the dresses this week and felt so fantastical wearing them. This place is definitely quirky-cute. The store has a somewhat decent selection, but there are definitely a lot of other vintage shops around with more to choose from. Their selection of men's clothing is way smaller than the women's. The prices are decent and there's a few other odds and ends they sell like "I Love Durham" shirts, strawberry ear muffs, jewelry, etc. I love their collection of vintage boots and the purses are hit or miss. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. When you visit, just be mindful that the store really isn't that big and you may sift through things pretty quickly. But you'll never know when you might find that one thing that you just have to have :) read more

Why has it taken me so long to review Dolly's? What is wrong with me? I love this place. The second you walk up the ADA-compliant ramp, you're transported to a vintage/color lover's equivalent to a candy lover's Chocolate Factory. Every corner of Dolly's is decorated with beautiful (and sometimes silly) things, but not in an overwhelming way. The merchandise is in great shape, and the prices aren't too shabby, either! I really like how the women's price tags say cute things like, "Adorbale with boots!" and how the men's price tags are baseball cards. In the front of the store, by the windows, you'll find new things like greeting cards, mugs, leg warmers, perfume and handmade jewelry, so it's not all vintage. Dolly's also boasts a great collection of Durham garb, in case you wanted to show some down and dirty pride. The owner's name is Jennifer and she is an absolute doll (intended). Have fun! read more

Cute little novelty shop in downtown Durham. The shop is one part consignment shop, one part random trinkets and all together it makes a nice place to explore downtown. Dolly's Vintage is probably the most vintage store I have ever been in. You can tell that each item is hand selected. Dresses are color-coded. Shirts are organized in a separate section. All sunglasses are $14. The most beautiful vintage items are featured on hangers across the store walls. The prices are a little higher than most vintage stores, but here you are definitely paying for quality. There are two dressing rooms available. The store also sells jewelry and miscellaneous items like soap bars and perfumes. read more

Wow, love this place! I'm visiting the Triangle area for a good portion of the summer and trying to check out all the cool local places I can. This was a spectacular vintage shop. The selection was incredibly well-organized and very reasonably priced. Unlike a lot of vintage shops all of the goods were actually vintage - no Gap items snuck in. The little things, such as the descriptions on the tags, were nice touches. I'm not sure the name of the woman who was working when I went in today but she was SO nice and sweet. Wow - if I said this place had a mod-fairy-princess aesthetic, would you get the picture? This might be one of the most fun vintage stores I've ever been in. The walls are covered in old Rolling Stone magazines and plastic poodles, and the "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" is playing in the background. Remember what it felt like to dig through your grandmother's closet and come across something groovy your mom used to wear? And it made you feel like...oh, I dunno, Marianne Faithfull... and you wondered why you couldn't wear hot pants to middle school? Dolly's is like that. I saw some very cool vintage tops and dresses here - also, I think some nightgowns - lots of bright, pastel colors. Women's, men's and kid's clothes are available for purchase. In addition to the vintage, they have lots of those "Durham, Love Yourself" t-shirts, and some cute "Try a Little Kindness" t-shirts. Plus, you can get a lime green wig and matching fluffy tutu. Dolly's is one of the best vintage stores I've ever to been to. The merchandise in the window showcases the store's Durham t-shirts and other Dirty D paraphernalia, but the back of the store holds a treasure trove of a vintage dresses, focusing on the 60s and 70s. There are some men's items as well plus women's tops, suits, jackets, and dainty things, but the dresses are the highlight. All the clothes are in extremely good condition - clean and pressed - and priced very reasonably. Everything is well organized, and the store actually smells nice! I'll be checking it out every few months to look for new stock! read more

Dolly's has the smallest selection of Men's clothing I have ever seen for a store that claims to uni-sex. I sifted through everything in less than 20 minutes, just to walk away empty handed. The women's selection, however, is much more adequate, with hundreds of accessories that you can only imagine. This saves Dolly's from being 2-stars in my book, as I can't take anything away from the superb finds that some of my friends have made here. Got the cutest last minute dress for a wedding that I didn't even know I needed. Everything here is clean and the store doesn't smell like vintage. It all looks new. I love vintage but always have a hard time because of the smell, but not dolly's. Great storw, great lighting, just the right amount of inventory always and great customer service. The shop girl, Anna, even produced for me a seam ripper, so I could open something up an inch to get the drape to fall better. She was amazing. Thanks Anna! read more

I love this place. There is nothing like stepping into a store and being transported someplace else. This place is pure whimsy. I love the curated gifts & goodies in the front of the shop and the easy to shop selection of vintage clothing in the back. I've always loved this store - so many unique things, great Durham gear & one of my favorite places to buy gifts! I was shopping there last week and a few of my purchases were accidentally left out of my bag.
