We have a family cuckoo clock that hangs on the wall which we had bought on a trip to Europe over 50 years ago. It is a European clock with the original Dutch movements. A few years ago, it started to develop problems, running erratically and with the 2 drop weights which power the clock occasionally descending unequally. The time could be off by large amounts, even a few hours. In Dec. 2020, Clocktiques sent a technician, Jason, to our house. We told Jason the history, including the age, of the clock. He claimed that the problem was principally due to the fact that the 2 drop weights were not identical and he made an adjustment. About 6 months later, the same performance problems returned. I left my clock at Clocktiques for approximately 2 months and was charged a few hundred dollars for the repairs (I note that the charge for Jason's previous work was not reimbursed). For a few months the clock functioned well, but over the next couple of years, the issues not only returned but became worse: the clock would stop completely every few months, or so. I called Rick, the owner. I then dropped off my clock for several weeks at Clocktiques. They checked the clock and told me the issues were resolved. However, the problems returned. I decided to look for a different repair shop. In Sept. 2024, a shop in Raleigh told me that my clock needed a major overhaul. They opened up all of the internal workings, including repairing/replacing some of the bushings. The technician said that the serious problems had probably been present for at least a few years, and possibly much longer. After about 2 months in the shop and charges of a few hundred dollars, my clock is now running fine (and is under lengthy warranty coverage). I called Clocktiques demanding an explanation, but Rick was not able to provide one. I am deeply disappointed with the service I received at Clocktiques. While the shop carries an attractive and catchy name, my experience suggests otherwise. This is reminiscent of your taking your car to the mechanic when you hear a loud noise from the engine. The noise goes away for a while after you have paid a large "repair" bill but, then, months later, the car stops running as you find out you what you had actually needed was an engine overhaul in the first place. read more

Expensive place to get batteries changed on nice watches. They have a great selection of clocks, the best in the region. And they know what they are doing, not like some HS Kid opening your expensive watch's case with a chisel for changing your batteries. Over 1 year ago I replaced my Movado watchband with a band from their shop. Recently, both pins holding the band simply fell out and were nowhere to be found (this happened one pin at a time over a 4 week period). When I stopped in for repair/replacement (on two separate occasions) the missing pins were replaced. After asking, each time, what the charge was they said there was no charge; just remember them when I need their services. About a month or so ago I had a Frederique Constant watch that I knew needed a battery replacement so I did some research and I saw the reviews for here. There was a little rough spot on the acrylic crystal that Rick polished out quickly, then replaced the wrist band. You can see the result; it's 50 years old, looks great and is very accurate. After learning about them from WRAL when they televised a story about them earlier this year, I visited their store to entrust them with an inherited family mantel clock. The clock needed a major mechanism clean up and some restoration to the glass and face. I met with Kevan and he carefully explained all that was needed to restore it and warned me it would take some time for them to do their job right. I left there knowing the family heirloom was in great hands. I was apprehensive at first leaving this 100+ yr. old clock but after meeting Kevan, my fears were pointless. I returned in a couple of months to find the clock in better "health" and today it chimes beautifully and keeps time well as long as I wind it weekly. My dad has a Seiko Kinetic watch and the latch was broken. It was sent off to Seiko and they couldn't fix or replace the band, jewelry stores at the mall couldn't help and this area's jewelry store couldn't fix it either. So, I almost gave up. Recently discovered Clocktiques from the positive reviews and brought in 3 of my watches to be serviced. One was a Concord which needed a new battery; another was a Franck Muller that also needed a battery; and lastly a Piaget designed for Van Cleef & Arpels that needed its gold bracelet cleaned. Rick looked at the Piaget and noticed the scratches on the dial and said it was due to the hands dragging and said he could hand polish at least 90 percent of them out, which was a much better response than what Piaget told me a few years ago. In the end, though, he removed 100 percent of the scratches, fixed the hands, cleaned the diamonds and the gold bracelet. The fact that I entrusted Clocktiques with these special timepieces speaks for the way he assuaged my trepidation when I walked in. Brought a wristwatch I inherited from my father in for repair. The stem was missing and it is a Swiss made watch, so parts are not common like a timex. They were able to find an original crown/ stem in their vast inventory. They buffed and polished the watch so well that I was pleasantly surprised the watch looked show case quality. One of the main reasons that I chose Clocktiques is that all repairs are made "in house " they don't send it out for repairs. Rick instructed me in the care and use of the watch. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. If I could go up to 10 stars, I would. Rick and Crystal came to our house in Apex to fix our grandfather clock, which had not run for many years. Rick cleaned and repaired the clock, showed me how to wind it, how to stop the chimes if we wanted, and although it was a difficult clock, he fiddled with it until he was satisfied. And when it stopped again a few days later and I couldn't get it to work (NOT their fault it stopped - it was an accident on our end), Rick and Crystal came out again, on a Sunday (!) to fix it again. I brought in my Tag Heuer Aquaracer. I had banged it on something and it stopped running. Rick serviced the watch and replaced the roller jewel and 3rd wheel. About four months later, the watch started running very fast while I was on vacation. I brought it back and Rick adjusted the regulator and de-magnitized the watch. We determined it had become magnetized from going through several x-ray machines (no fault of Ricks). Rick did these adjustments free-of-charge.
