Bought a pair of earrings here and the clasp broke before I could even put them on. Called and was told they could give me a new pair no problem. When I went to swap the pair I was told by a different employee that you Just have to bend it back into place. Was treated like I was stupid for even coming in. Moral of the story - the jewelry is very cheaply made. When I was purchasing the earrings I watched as the employees aggressively watched every customer and checked the cameras after they left to ensure nothing was taken. Quaint little jewelry and accessories shop in Cameron Village. They sell very unique and handcrafted jewelry from earrings to necklaces and most things in between. There are also fun extras like socks, mugs, and notepads. Prices may seem high, but you have to realize these are pieces that you might not see anywhere else (or even ever again!) Light Years is a near-perfect store for finding something a little different for not a whole lot of money. Of course, if you want to spend a lot of money, you can, but with so many other options, there's no need. There's a laid-back atmosphere here, not the pressure of a high end store or the madness of a mall-store. Light Years sells small all-purpose gifts made by locals. That's a rather handy option if you stop by looking for a gift for someone else and instead spend time buying something for yourself and then, at the last minute, remember your original goal. One of the best jewelry stores in the area! No, this isn't a Zale's, or Jarrod's, but this jewelry store is right up my ally. I have been shopping at Light Years since I moved to NC in 6th grade and haven't been disappointed yet. They have the best variety and prices can range from cheap to more expensive. Some may call this store a little hippy, but to me it's just downright awesome. They support local artists and have more than just jewelry. You can find nicknack's, frames, incense, bags, wall art, etc. It's a good place to look for gifts and they package everything in cute little boxes and bags. Jewelry is okay, the customer service is terrible. When I expressed concern that my package hadn't been scanned for several days, they gave me excuses and told me to go to the post office because maybe they might know where it is. I work in customer service, and I know what good service looks like. I did not get it from Light Years. Maybe if they're only shipping a few streets away you may have better luck. Or go a different boutique who values their customers. Next time, I'll take a variation of their advice and go to my local TJ Maxx. read more

I really expected better from a company in which I spend a pretty good amount of money and time shopping at. I received a shawl, & a ring for my birthday from here. the shawl began to rip within a month of me getting it and the stone fell out of the setting of the ring when I took them in to see about repairs or replacement the girl told me apparently there is absolutely nothing that they can do, even though she identified both items and acknowledge that yes they do sell those items. apparently if you shop here you need to make sure you keep not only the original receipt but a gift receipt for the entirety of your purchase because even if they know that they sell those items they will do nothing for you unless you have them. read more

While the selection of jewelry is nice, they don't value their customers at all. I purchased some earrings and a week later saw that my credit card had duplicate charges from Light Years. 4 calls later, they claim that even though they can see the duplicate charge in their system, they can't do anything about it. So, now I have to issue a formal dispute through my credit card company to get the duplicate charge removed and refunded. I did nothing wrong and yet I get the shaft for giving them business. I will never shop at Light Years again and would not recommend any of my friends shop there unless they want to be charged for something they didn't purchase and then have the headache of trying to get their money back. These people are fraudulent or negligent, take your pick. read more

I have been a loyal light years customer for all 5 years of college. I've recently moved to Denver Colorado and I got really excited when I heard about an "online store coming soon!" on the light years website. So then I went to the website recently to see if it was up and running (5 months later) and sadly the selection of items to buy is around 20 things at best. Was really disappointed and have no way to give my favorite jewelry store the money they deserve. I will never shop at this store again--none of the locations. I was on a lunch break with a work friend about two years ago. She liked a ring that I had bought at light years. That day we were in the area so we decided to stop by and browse for a bit to kill some time before a meeting we had. My friend and I were mid-20s, wearing work clothes, etc. As soon as we walked in the girls who worked there started hovering and watching us inappropriately. I understand that loss prevention is necessary for stores that sell small trinkets in big open spaces, but the way these employees were following us was extremely rude and made us very uncomfortable. My friend and I browsed the rings looking for one similar to what I had bought and she tried a few on and decided to think about it. We took a second to look around the rest of the store and then decided to get on our way to the meeting. Upon leaving, we were stopped by a sales associate who then accused my friend of pocketing "something." She proceeded to look through her purse and made her turn out our pockets. When she found nothing on my friend, she turned to me and made me do the same without any reason whatsoever, as I did not touch one thing in the whole store. It was humiliating. She claimed that as she watched my friend "something" went missing. She was never able to say what the item was... She then claimed that I "probably stole things too." We offered her our bags once more to prove our innocence and she became irritable, probably because she was realizing she was wrong. She threatened to call the cops and we asked her to please do so if she felt it was necessary because we had nothing to hide. We then asked her to speak to the manager and she told us the manager was gone and refused to let us know when they would be back. She then told us to leave very rudely and said she was sending a police man after us....? Embarrassed and quite angry for the way we had been treated, my friend and I continually attempted to contact this manager and report this employee's behavior. The manager never answered our calls or responded. Do not shop here--these people are stuck up and horrible. They will watch you like a hawk and treat you like crap. One person I know had a similar experience and was wrongly accused as well with no apology... read more
