The store opened back in 2012 and moved to its current larger spot in 2018. At the time, it was the only place downtown to buy a card and a gift. The building was once the NC State Bar's headquarters. Parking is on the street or at a nearby garage, so it can be somewhat challenging. Did you know that Pam Blondin, the owner, campaigned and built Raleigh's first parklet, and she commissioned the city's first sidewalk mural? She is a true pioneer of downtown's public culture. Deco Raleigh is an upscale gift shop with curated gifts. I thought the store was a good size and bigger than it appeared from the street. But the aisles were a little narrow in places. The store carries work from over 100 North Carolinian artisans. Inside, there is pottery, artwork, jewelry, textiles, apparel, home decor, puzzles, books, cards, and other unique finds. The store carries the "Raleigh" and "North Carolina" themed items. You'll also find some gourmet food items. The custom wrapping station makes things so convenient. It is the ideal place to browse and find a thoughtful gift for someone, or just buy something for yourself. The store design is warm, welcoming, and a total visual treat to explore. The store stocks several Made In The USA brands and lots of organic cottons, linens, etc. They also have lots of locally-made jewelry, handbags, candles, etc. While it's a grown-up, non-trendy women's store, my 15-year-old has been known to pull an item off their substantial consignment racks in the back of the store and make it work in her teen wardrobe (she's a Free People, Madewell, Urban Outfitters shopper usually.) The staff is friendly and very low-key. If you prefer shopping without having to make idle small talk, they will allow that. Lately, their home decor and gift sections have been the best bang for your bucks. The decor and vibe in this store is super trendy. The staff let you do your thing, which I appreciate. The fitting rooms were pretty dusty dirty, on my visits, but very spacious. This location is in a real hip, walkable area of downtown Raleigh. There seems to be a generous amount of street parking but I did not see any private lots. Overall, a good Urban location and I'd come back to shop the sales!
