I was quickly taken in by all the cute and funky socks, cards, cups, and other items floating around the store. As you go to the back, it opens up to a bar with wine and beer for sale and to sip. I grabbed a can of cider and was told to come back anytime. The owners made me feel at home and were so happy that I was walking around downtown. I plan to return the next time I am in the area. I absolutely love The Green Monkey! It's a quaint little beer/wine bar & gift shop off Hillsborough Street between Downtown & NC State campus. It's very LGBT friendly and welcoming to all... but without a typical grungy gay bar feel,,, it's just cozy. And they have a free parking lot directly across the street from the shop, so that's convenient!! The owners, Rusty & Drew, have really put their heart & soul into The Green Monkey, and you can see/feel that love right when you walk in :) Also, I love that they have 8-10 taps (mostly local) with a good variety, and they also have beer & wine for purchase to drink there or take out. If the list doesnt do it for you, there are several refrigerated rows with all types of beer to choose from. The gift shop focuses on trickets with witty, sarcastic, and LGBTQ themed quotes. Keychains, socks, coasters, necklaces...etc. they have a couple individual designers with jewelry and such for sale as well. The main draw for this local bar are interactive nights: karaoke, improv comedy, trivia, wine tastings, etc.. They also host a lot of meetup events for LGBT groups and other groups. No DJ or music, but friendly vibe. My lack of stars is honestly due to the fact that I always feel under served when I go (I have been there 3 times now). The first time I was virtually ignored waiting in line for a beer. I'm not sure why they treat some people (I am assuming regulars) with super friendly service and go out if their way to break down an introduction to the bar and options for some people and I always feel like I'm grasping for basic inclusion. Fun, quirky little spot off of NC State's campus. I was waiting for an event taking place across the street at Meraki Salon, so decided to stop in for a drink. Apparently, it was absurdly low-priced wine night and I ended up getting a glass of Vinho Verde for somewhere around $3. It was pretty tasty! There are lots of little trinkets and tchotchkes that you can browse while sipping your glass. One of the bartenders said that trivia would be starting shortly, but I had to get to the other event and wasn't able to stay. I'd love to go back to check it out! read more

Great place to dance after Flying Saucer and it's close by. Great for current college students or ones back in the area to see friends. It was a go to in Raleigh when I was going to ECU and so was Buckhead Saloon big hit all around. The ECU Pirates have a little bit of everything downtown so it's always fun in Greenville. Stopped by this great shop the other day as an employee was setting up the outside display. She did not hesitate to stop and share everything I needed to know about the place. It's a gift shop/wine & beer store/feel-good hang out spot all-in-one. It's random, yet well thought out and organized. This may hard to imagine but even empty, early in the morning, it felt fun. You can find t-shirts, trinkets, great gifts like bath salts, local finds and awesome craft beer and wine. I knew I'd be back but it was confirmed when I learned about the weekly wine and beer specials. Even got a chance to wave at Rusty the owner - who while on a call did it with a smile. You can easily be a regular here and Rusty (part owner) welcomes all, and remembers you by name even after only a couple of visits. The tee shirt selection is solid, as are the gifts. I really wish I lived close by because I would go much more often than I do. The two owners and their regulars are so welcoming. One of them is super outgoing and always makes me feel like part of The Green Monkey family. They have a rotating selection of beers on tap and beers in their coolers. You can drink something from the cooler while you are there or take it home with you. They also have a super cute gift shop. I've purchased many gift items there. Lots of cute fun items. They sell fun wine glasses, lava stone jewelry and the oils to put on the stones, funny socks, reusable wine gift bags, really awesome earrings, and many locally made items.
