The Dewar's on Rosedale has the worst customer service, we are Hispanic and three times we had attempted to go inside and have ice cream, and we can feel the racism. No one greeted us, we are standing for 10 minutes and we have to go look for someone to seat us. After we found an employee they told us the wait it's 20 minutes even though they had plenty of empty tables. Once the got us a table no one came to take our order or offered us water. Other customers came in and they had cup of waters before us. Very disappointing. read more

Not sure why my checkin and review did not post... I visited this place the other day with my son and we really enjoyed our treats. I love the nostalgic vibe of the place. I had the black and tan, which was a sundae with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge, and a second scoop of fudge brownie ice cream with caramel fudge. My son enjoyed a malt with birthday cake and fudge brownie ice cream. The shop has other options... So I plan on heading over periodically. They had a lot of options in terms of candy, however, I noticed that some of them were quite hard, so I'm guessing they're not too fresh. I will try one later and provide an update. read more

I was with a group of 3 friends and unfortunately I'm bigger than they are so I was pretty uncomfortable on the counter stools--I didn't really fit without spreading my legs pretty widely, and eventually my butt fell asleep and I just stood the rest of the time. Our server was 5 star quality--very knowledgeable about the menu and had great recommendations based on our personal preferences and what we were in the mood for. I got the child's size sundae of peanut butter fudge ice cream and hot fudge topping. The ice cream texture was a bit grainy because of the peanuts and it wasn't as fudgey as I would've liked. The hot fudge topping was more just like chocolate syrup and not hot fudge, but it was still good. Even the child's size was plenty big and I didn't finish the whole thing because I was full. I've been going to this famous ice cream shop since the 80's. My absolute favorite is their Black n White with ice milk, extra nuts on top. All I can say is their ice cream and chews are simply delicious! And I will keep coming back for sure! read more

Almost everything the same , few updates but honesty looks the same when I was a kid. Customer Service is on point . Once you walk in your greeted right away. The sign said to seat myself so I did. Waited for 30min and nobody took my order. I moved inside and sat at the bar but the workers were just talking amongst themselves and ignoring me. Always good! We have to hit here every time we're in town. It's an unspoken rule. Actually it's a very spoken rule! Everything is good! The banana split is over-the-top huge! And must be shared! Or you can try to tackle it on your own. Hot tip: you can take half gallons of ice cream home in an insulated envelope and it will last two hours. It's only an hour to Santa Clarita, so we took the risk and it really paid off. Too bad we only brought home 2 1/2 gallons. Now we have to bring home chews and ice cream! I was a little disappointed when the employee didn't say thank you but further disappointed when I received my email receipt and discovered I did not get the sampler version of every flavor as ordered but instead only got four flavors selected by the employee. Well, I've lived in Bakersfield since July 5, 1978. Raised three boys here. Many, many trips to Dewars. That's what, 46 years? Recently we had an out of town visitor, and she and the GF went to Dewars. They thought it would be nice to bring me a tee shirt. It was too small, I said, "No problem, I need to pick up chocolates, I'll just exchange it." Little did I know . . . Walked in, explained my situation, and was interrogated as to whether I had the receipt. If the price tag was still attached. I said I don't know, why don't you look? My visits began 23 yrs ago when my son was first born. In those days my favorite was Susie's special and I am not sure what happened but now it is called the Strawberry shake. I think it is loaded with almonds and real ice cream and banana's. It is a meal of it's own and I can assure you that by the time you are done. You will be full! We received a 2 lb box of chews with assorted flavors for Christmas. The chews had so much wax in them that we were scraping wax from our teeth. The chews are wrapped in wax paper so I get that they can have a waxy taste, but this was literally melted wax and chunks of wax inside the chews. It was so disappointing since I have been going to Dewar's for ice cream and chews since I was a child, which is over 50 years. What was even more disappointing was the response I got when I called in to report it. They said the best they could do was send out a 12oz box to replace my 2lb box. They seemed completely unconcerned for the quality of their product, for my bad experience, or for a possible problem with one or more of their batches. I told them to keep their 12oz box and that I would no longer be a customer. It's kind of heartbreaking to be honest. Dewar's has been part of our family tradition for so long. I could 100% understand them having an issue with a batch, and easily forgive it. But not standing behind their product and not making it right for the customer by replacing their original order is unforgivable. Goodbye old friend. read more
