I attended the Class room instruction portion to obtain my Ccw license at this facility on 8/27/20. We had great pleasure of meeting our San B county Sheriffs John McMahon for an introduction & brief Q&A . He was absolutely awesome! Friendly & informative! As far as the instructors for our class it was taught by Detective Dominick along with Deputy Verral. I had no idea how much valuable information we learned in our 8hr requirement as part of the process from a power point presentation to video clips of real life experiences, to more Q & A ... it was so much educational information in such a short period time frame that flew by so fast . I'm so glad I attended this class and I am even more ecstatic about having the ability to be a CCW license holder . One more step next which is the range date at the designated Gun range locations which they will inform you In order to obtain a Ccw license holds such a huge responsibility but definitely worth every step of the way . Attended the in-class portion on September 2nd, led by Det. Dominick. He and the other instructors put on a highly informative class, using their knowledge, experience, personal stories and great senses of humor. I appreciate their patience in answering people's questions, and they made sure that they emphasized highly important topics several times so they would sink in. Overall, a very well presented program. As far as presenters go, I have been a presenter myself at conferences over 75 times, and I would say they are well prepared, project well, are funny, kept everyone engaged, gave the information promised, and the time flew by quickly. Came for my San Bernardino CCW class and range qualifications. The entire staff was great, from the the time you sign till your done with the class & range. I was dreading the 8 hr course. Not knowing what to expect since there's nothing available online. Driving up the road to the range, I started to notice all the cars behind me coming up too. I thought I arrived early but found that there where already a lot full of people before me. They did have other thing going on as well too. I parked and had a good size group of fellow classmates walking towards the check in area. The class was already getting full and that was not even everyone. When they said to arrive early they meant it. The Sheriff's staff running everything were awesome. They made it feel welcoming. Know that everyone there was excited to be there. I know At least I was, waiting over a year for everything to fall in place and finally getting to the come to the range day. I was ready to endure the long 8 hr day. Detective Dominick and the Deputies really made the class great. They went through all the important details and threw out a few good jokes, the class went by quickly and next was the range. You can see everyone's excitement. The range officers did a awesome job explaining everything and it went very smoothly. My group did a great job and everyone seemed to be prepared and before you knew it we where done. I left ecstatics knowing I finally completed this part of my journey of getting my CCW. Come to the class prepared, come early so you don't Waste the Sheriff's or other classmates time. Pay attention and listen to them so your not that person asking the same question they just answered. My tip to you. Get there early, bring a pen follow there instructions. Also and bring them some treats like donuts. They seriously will appreciate it. I wish I did. They deal with this all year long and a little goes a long way. Don't stress your wait time, follow all there instructions and treat them well because your there because you wanted to be there, they're there to help you get your CCW. Finally got to my last leg and needed to attend the shooting range CCW course at SBCSD. Did not know what to expect but came prepared nonetheless. Overall I was very happy to have attended the shooting range test and safety course education since I got to learn a lot of things I was not aware of in regards to handling yourself in intense situations. The sheriffs at this department were incredibly knowledgeable, patient, fair, and personable... The very opposite of what I had envisioned prior to coming here. The staff here is wonderful as long as you listen to instructions, stay safe at all times, and pay attention. It was an honor to learn from a highly knowledgeable staff and take away from their vast experience. Shoutouts to Detective Eric Dominick, Deputy Troy Verral, and the best of them all.. They were very detailed and thorough in the class teachings. The most impressive part is how organized they are. The san bernadino county sheriff's department has done a fantastic job of conducting their ccw course, as well as making it fairly fluid for good moral citizens to legally carry granted you meet all the requirements.The initial application took some response time for my interview, they have lots of applications daily so it is going to take some time, once i received my interview date i made sure to organize the information needed for that day and plan out your notarized form so you dont have to do it twice, on your interview date you will pay your initial payments for fingerprints and paperwork, you will go through a soft interview as well as paperwork collection ect. From there your real background check has started and its time to play the waiting game, if you receive a letter in the mail then youve been denied your ccw permit for that county, if you pass you will receive a phone call stating youve passed your background check and that you need to call sara at resources, this is important , ONLY CALL ONCE , when you call be sure to leave a polite, clear voicemail stating who you are , why your calling and that you need to schedule your range day. If you continue to call and leave voicemails youll be put last in line everytime youve called, they rely on going in order and giving everyone a call back in the actual order it came, so if you keep calling , you keep postponing your range day... be patient ! and she will contact you.You will receive a call about your range day, and you will schedule the date, and time to qualify. Make sure to listen carefully,bring all items needed, and dont be late. Once you reach range day you will have a 8 hour course teaching you everything from safe storage, proper interactions with law enforcement, areas you are and are not legally allowed to carry ect. At the end of your course you will be instructed to the range for your actual firearms qualification, you will first be briefed on instructions, the operation and whats expected of you during your qualification.When shooting, take your time, be smooth, and above all be safe, these instructors are looking for effective, reliable, and safe operation of you and your firearms, 2 mags, 5 rounds per mag, shoot 5 rounds, drop empty magazine, reload remaining 5 from second magazine shoot and wait for further instructions. If you did everything safely, and hit the traget in the minimum required location then you've passed. The officer will then sign off on your range card and promt you to safely lock and store your firearms in your vehicle and wait for the other to finish qualifying. I cant say it enough, the sbsd has a done a fantastic job with their ccw programs as well as their professionalism in teaching and holding these programs. I was apprehensive about this day. I went through Reserve Academy at this training center 25 years ago and then didn't end up going into law enforcement. But my memory of this place was of instructors in your face screaming while you were doing pushups or standing in line or shooting. I knew the day wouldn't be like that, but was stressed just thinking of going back there. I have to say that it was such a good day. Very educational. Instructors very informative and helpful.
