This company is fantastic. I was told by someone, just because someone has an impressive background in firearms doesn't mean they can teach. That is so true. In this case, Range U has both-an impressive background and the skills to teach...civilians. That is an important distinction. We are learning marksmanship and the skills to protect us and ours, not going to war. As such, it's important to keep the material functional. The class size is small. I have had one on one instruction, as well as classes with 30 other students. The size of class with Range U is small enough for lots of personalized instruction, while also allowing us to learn from our classmates scenarios, and still get that sense of camaraderie with our peers. One thing I really appreciated about Mikey is he began each topic with a why. Why we are doing this, or why something is so. Stating that at the beginning is crucial for me, as it removes the confusion. Focus vs overload or trying to connect the dots is a straighter path for my learning style, and retention. Regarding the facility-Anyone lucky enough to come out for firearm training or land navigation is in for a treat. As they continue to develop this range, it will be a place of serious training, as well as a place of great fun. I can't wait to go back. And I can't wait to share it with others. This review is for the pistol 101 and 102 classes which were conducted by Mikey. The 101 class was great at dispelling misconceptions about shooting and the firearms industry in general. We focused on building foundational skills (trigger press, grip, and stance) and learned drills that you can practice on your own after class. Trainees who were more proficient were given advanced drills while the rest of us worked at our own pace. Nothing was rushed or timed, which I really appreciated. 102 focused on holding us accountable for our shots and we received penalties for missing targets. This is the only class I've seen that places any emphasis on accountability which is absolutely critical to ensure you don't hit a bystander and end up in legal trouble. 102 ended with an exciting stress induced drill to illustrate how your abilities will deteriorate under pressure. Don't expect to leave master shooter. Expect to leave with the tools you need to self-diagnose your issues and hone your skills over time. Overall, I highly recommend RU classes, Mikey kept it fun and dropped a tremendous amount of knowledge. Looking forward to taking many more in the future! read more

I took Pistol 101 wanting to figure out if I even wanted to be a gun owner. I had never held a pistol and only shot a rifle twice, more than 25 years earlier. I loved the in classroom instruction which even included how to protect my home well without a gun. We moved to dry shooting. It was great practice. Sara and Mikey were amazing, professional and experienced instructors. They know their stuff!!! I mean REALLY know it! As a new shooter, I was so very nervous moving to live fire. I was coached through every step of the way and then we practiced over and over and over again. The amount of one on one time I got was amazing! I am still blown away with the amount of personal help I got from the best of the best!! The encouragement I got was invaluable. I went from scared, slappy to being a more confident shooter. This review is for the Land Navigation course that Range University offers. The instructor provided an excellent class where we immediately got to apply the map navigation lessons out in the field. It's one thing to learn how to read and plot a course on a map--it's another to apply those concepts to ensure you fully understand how to navigate. Don't worry about getting lost. The introduction course ensures that even if you mess up plotting and navigating to your point, you aren't too far from the classroom. If you never learned how to read a map or your navigation skills have gotten rusty, this course is perfect for you. The tools are provided for you, so there is no additional cost to do this event (other than to bring a notebook to take notes). I felt I got my money's worth with the course and am looking to take the course again to apply my navigation skills in a different scenario. read more

I took the Pistol 101 course in Virginia (Sept 2020). I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Range University. The instructors were knowledgeable, encouraging, and patient, not only with me, but also with my peers, most of whom had little or no experience. At no point did I feel overwhelmed, out of my depth, or unsafe. By the time I left, I felt comfortable handling my new pistol. The course provided sufficient background and practical drills so that I could be confident going to the range to practice my new skills. I have been a gun owner for about 15 years, and even had my concealed carry license. Taking classes from Range University has significantly improved my confidence carrying my gun. The instructors focus on how you will use your weapon and ways to overcome bad habits, anticipation issues, and work on responsive shooting. You don't know how much you don't know until you do. That seems like a silly thing to say, but it is true. I have taken 5 classes, two 101 & 102 Pistol, two Dynamic Reflexive Pistol, and one Force on Force class. They offer survival, wilderness and austere medicine courses also. I plan to sign up for those courses next. read more

Hello, I took their Lock Picking 105 class and it was great. Don't expect to be breaking into banks after a day of class. Do expect to be able to identify locks (pad locks/door locks/ignitions) and the tools used to defeat them. You'll learn which locks are well made and, therefore, too difficult to try and defeat. There is also a fair bit of site evaluation and weakness assessment of local buildings. You also cover social engineering and home security (wi-fi/garage doors/security systems). Mikey Bee is hilarious and we had a lot of fun. The class went for the entire duration as advertised. read more

I took their pistol 101 and 102 classes. The classes are centered around fundamentals and marksmanship and are delivered in a friendly and inviting format. The structure and content of the courses was well thought out and takes students from safety protocols to confidence shoots hitting really small targets consistently. The round count was around 350ish for each class and no round was wasted. It's always good to get back to the basics of fundamentals as that creates the foundation for fast, safe, and accurate hits on target. Highly recommend. read more

I attended the Launch Party for Range University a couple of weeks ago, not really knowing what was being offered in the one day experience. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I learned during the short, small group stations that were designed to introduce attendees to basic lock picking, first aid, and land navigation as well as some firearms instruction [beginner - expert depending on attendee level of comfort].
