Wish there was a way to give 10 stars. Because Ask Defensive Training gets better and better. Took a beginner's reloading class yesterday with a couple of friends, and learned more in 7 hours with Jim Hanson (the instructor) than I have in the past 10 years on my own. Took several pages of notes and by the end of the class we were all making bullets. Jim is passionate about about guns and shared his 30 plus years of experience with us. The class was fun, and loaded with so much information. Couldn't believe how quickly it went. The emphasis was on safety, and how to get the maximum performance in shooting. I Came here the other day with my brother to do a private party transfer on a firearm that I was selling to him. The shop is very small but don't let that faze you they have plenty of items inside the store. Most places don't have very many firearms on their shelves right now but this place had some. The owners are nice especially Debbie I believe her name is. She's very sweet with a great attitude she doesn't have the standard macho attitude that most people have that work at a firearm shop. It's a waste of money! I took a basic handgun beginner class with Tim Brayshaw not worth the money. He Talked for 6 hours and we shot for about 30 min for $275. They don't provide any guns or ammo. I first entered this store perhaps 18 months ago. Upon walking in the staff acknowledged and welcomed my presence. To date it is something they make effort to do to everyone who steps into their store. Each of the clerks, and of course, the owners, are veeerrry knowledgeable about many of the shooting sports, including reloading. Well informed as they are about their wares, this business is extremely focused upon training, awareness of one's surroundings and safe usage of your firearm. To this end they offer a large selection of group and private lessons for all levels of interest and abilities. My wife took their introductory pistol class using a revolver and glowingly spoke about her instructor (Tim B.), the quality of training and settings. I've also repeatedly noted their demeanor and patience with first-time buyers is exemplary. Two other factors about this business are noteworthy. If the clerk with whom you are speaking does not know the answer to a question they so state and will ask someone else rather than provide inaccurate or misleading information. The second is there have been no changes to their small staff during the time I've been a customer. This speaks well to the quality of the individuals you'll meet behind the counter and the ownership. There are other gun shops, I guess, but their staff, knowledge and selection elevate these guys to All-Star status amongst the local retail gun scene. read more

They installed a set of Dawson precision iron sight on my g17 a left a pretty noticeable mark on my rear sight. After I brought to there attention they said "that's how Dawson precision sights are". I've never heard that or seen that from other people who have there sights. The shop seemed pretty busy than usual but, if you're too busy to install sights on a pistol and do a good job, then don't do it. ***update**** June 10 2020 I appreciate Shawn for reaching out to me to let me know that as a customer, I should be happy with their services and not feel disappointed. Pretty disappointed in the beginning training class. It was disturbing that the trainer spent 30 minutes telling the group that the covid virus was "fake news" and nothing worse than the flu and that vitamin C and sunshine would prevent it. I just came here to learn gun basics and safety not to get into a political discussion. The training itself was good when we weren't being lectured about covid and the 45 minutes we heard about how we should buy insurance from them. Overall, i feel like I didn't get what I paid for and won't take any more classes or buy my gun at this establishment. I literally just wanted to learn gun safety and basics. The shop is small, much more Mom and Pop than the bigger gun shops around, but that's what we like about it. Folks get to know you and then everything is on a first name basis after that. I search all of Inland Empire for reloading components which they have an ok selection. It seemed like I was a nuisance to them with the very dry and limited customer service because it wasn't their target sale, but then why carry the items? Also came last Tuesday and they were closed for "inventory" which shouldn't be done on a business day during business hours. Do that during the off hours or the days you're closed. My wife and I have taken pistol and shotgun classes at Ask Defensive Training and for the novice and person who hasn't fired a weapon in years, we highly recommend Shaun and his patients and knowledge. The classwork was informative and the range firing was equally instructive with the end result of increased personal confidence and better knowledge of our weapons. Additionally, the Fire Arms Safety Certificate issued at the end of instructional class was also beneficial as it is required at gun ranges. I purchased my first firearms from here last week. Shawn and Debbie were extremely helpful. They were extremely courteous when I told them that it was my first time around firearms. They asked me my firearm budget and showed my weapons that fit it. They explained the differences and benefits between each option and showed me how to operate my choices. I also had to take the licensing test which wasn't too bad. I believe it was 35 or 25 MC. I ended up getting a Glock and benelli nova. Overall, I had a very positive experience here. I brought my Winchester 30-30 in for repairs. The cartridges did not eject and it was missing two pins. I waited 4 months for the staff to repair the gun. I called them and went in to see them over 12 times with no luck. They finally called me up and said they could not find the two pins. When I went to pick up the gun, it is missing the hammer and pin holding the hammer. They found the hammer and said they would look for the hammer pin and for me to come back later. I come back later and noticed that there is a fourth pin missing. The owner stated to me that the pin for the hammer was never in the gun. I stated that when I brought in the gun he personally cocked back the hammer twice, each time finger releasing the trigger and hammer back to its original position and it worked perfectly. I did the same. and worked fine every time. The owner stated that the hammer would cock with the level without the hammer pin being installed but I have not once been able to make the hammer work without the pin. First, based on the wild statement that he told me above, I know he is a bold faced liar. Second, there is absolutely no question that there were only two pins missing in my gun and the hammer was absolutely not loose in the gun and it was working perfectly. The big issue is finding parts for my gun which apparently (based on what the owner stated?????) are very hard to find and now I have to find 4 different size of pins instead of two and maybe more. Why it takes 4 months to look for gun parts amazes me (incompetent? inexperienced?). There is nothing worse than a "supposedly" qualified gun smith that is pretending to know what he is doing, disassembles your gun and gives it back to you in pieces and missing parts and lies to you about it. This issue is not over! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY TO HAVE YOUR GUNS REPAIRED AS THEY ARE NOT QUALIFIED GUN SMITHS AND ARE COMPLETELY UNETHICAL BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH THEM AS STATED ABOVE!!!!!!!!!! To begin: I have nothing but good things to say about ASK and each of its employees. Being very new to guns (have owned one rifle previously but didn't shoot it much), I had lots of questions. LOTS. First visit, it wasn't very busy, but Jim and Shawn spent about an hour or two answering all my questions and helping me narrow down choices on pistol, rifle and shotgun selections for home defense, personal defense and hunting. I had to wait for pay day for the purchase, and also wanted to do some research on the suggestions Shawn made to help me make up my mind. I came back about a week or so later and purchased the Benelli Nova Shawn had recommended. In speaking with a friend who had used the Benelli while in the Marines and different reviews of it online, it looked to be a great gun and well recommended. Doing the paperwork didn't take long, and Shawn also answered a whole slew of new questions I had - and patiently, which was very nice. After the waiting period, I came to pick up the shotgun and get set with cleaning supplies to take care of it after shooting it. The only thing that wasn't in stock was the proper sized brush for cleaning the barrel, which was not a big issue as I didn't plan to take it shooting same day, and they ordered it for me. It came in today, 10 days later, which is not unreasonable as 4 or 5 of those days weren't business days, and shipping isn't something you can make happen as fast as you want. I was pleased enough I made a second firearm purchase today while in the store, and the paperwork didn't take more than 15 minutes to do. Over all, I find the whole staff here friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and all-around pleasant to deal with. I will definitely be making this my first choice for firearms and ammo, and I'm looking forward to taking their classes as well. read more

I started the defensive pistol class series yesterday, best teaching experience ever. The ASK staff is more concerned with making sure you are safely using your equipment all the way down to what you wear and how you wear it, not just your gun and holster. Actually now I realize more than ever why I need to be trained by professionals like Shaun. They watch your every movement to make you a better hand gun owner. Granted I do need lots of practice but feel like I at least have the tools to practice properly after being on range with Shaun. ASK defensive training is thorough and fun, they treat you like one of the family, make you feel welcome. My only regret is why I didn't find them a long time ago.
