Very Poor Customer Service: 1. Multiple quote requests for planting 14 arborvitaes were ignored. 2. The crew frequently complained about inadequate work hours allotted for the job. The project, however, was well done. 3. Was asked to pay an extra $600 for side work already included in the bid--confirmed by project manager Miguel. 4. Later, an additional two arborvitaes were planted too close to the neighbor's property, misaligned with the other 14. 5. Miguel promised the crew would realign them on Monday. By Thursday, he did it himself but left the root ball fully exposed on one, in which I then had to immediatly compact with soil. When I notified him of the fully exposed rootball, his only reply was "got it." 6. Miguel shared with me the crew refused to return because they didn't want to come back to my home--disappointing, as I had treated them kindly throughout. read more

I wanted to do a surprise yard make over for family in Seattle, living out of state we searched several websites and made several calls. I was glad we landed with Devonshire Landscapes INC. Will Antsey worked with me for about a month over emails, phone chats, and an onsite visit to ensure we both saw the same vision for the make over. His crew were polite, and brought quality work to the project. The end project included shrub installation, shrubbery shaping, rock path installation, stump removals and lawn installation. Will offered creative ideas and landscaping guidance that enhanced the end project. Especially with finding an 8'+ foot Arborvitae that had died out in the middle of the tree line. The front yard is so polished looking and the improvements were completed as discussed at the end of the 2 day project. In the reveal family members were surprised and thankful... This team came out on short notice and helped me get my property looking great. There were bushes that needed trimming and pruning and lots of mowing and weeding. Other companies weren't able to do it as fast as I liked and Devonshire stepped up to the plate. This company does work on our neighbor a block away and every single time they come around their extremely loud, gas-powered leaf blower wakes our family up early in the morning. They need to buy a quieter one or even buy an electric one. I hate these guys. read more

Will and his team did a fantastic job on our front lawn and parking strip. We had a limited budget and he worked tirelessly to make the most important projects fit within that budget. They dug out over 1,500 square feet of ground cover, weeds and mismatched plants while bringing in everything needed to spray hydro seed. They created a beautiful paver pathway from the street to the sidewalk that perfectly matches the one from the sidewalk to our house. They trimmed the branches of our massive evergreen in the backyard all while staying exactly on budget. After the hydro seed was sprayed Will has stopped by twice to ensure it is growing as expected and to ensure us next spring it will be exactly what we expect. Honestly, we couldn't be happier with the work that was performed and the follow up we have received. We would recommend their work to anyone and we have plans to work with them again next spring when that budget gets a little bigger. read more

Charges $1.5k to rip out some plants and left the yard an un-Usable muddy mess. Project discussed was to clear the area so it could be more useable space for kids and discussion included plan to place mulch or bark on the soil. They did not lay down the bark and instead left the area dirt that turns to mud every time it rains. The bark was not included on the written estimate and so they wanted to charge more for this part of the plan after I reached out to ask "when are they coming back to finish?" Answer was "they aren't unless you give us more money". Recommend to avoid and if you do use, make sure every detail Discussed is in the written contract. read more

Will came out, and although it meant he was potentially talking himself out of work, he said that the retaining wall was fine and that I should consider investing in other parts of my house I spend more time in. From start to finish, our experience with Devonshire Landscapes was overwhelmingly positive. Rick responded quickly to our request for an estimate and was out to look at the yard in less than a week. He came back the next day to take measurements and drew up a comprehensive bid - all for free (we had to pay for an bid elsewhere). I especially appreciated that Rick took my vague ideas and came up with a really clear plan that did everything we'd hoped for. Miguel and crew who worked on the yard were equally great. They were friendly and worked through really unpleasant weather without complaint. One of our neighbors commented that they made an extra effort to keep the alley clear for our neighbors, which was definitely appreciated. During the project, we had tons of rain and it became clear that the original designe didn't quite meet the our drainage needs. Rick was able to make some changes to the plan (at no additional cost) to keep our yard dry. We really appreciated that Devonshire didn't stop until the project was really and truly finished. I'm so disappointed that my small project has become a big nightmare, but I'm searching Yelp for a solution tonight. Big holes left. Trees moved to completely wrong spots. The latest bid for work included a run of simple fence work priced at $100 per foot. I'm told that Will lives very close by, but I have never met him. Very impressed with Dan's team at Devonshire Landscapes for my recent, long-delayed spring clean-up. Great yard crews that service West Seattle / Alki are hard to come by. Many SoDo- or North Seattle-based crews listed on Yelp with a pan-Seattle service area cringe when asked to cross the West Seattle Bridge--who wants to spend an hour in traffic each way for what may only be :45 of actual work per week? No a problem with Devonshire! Dan and his team have a large and growing customer base in West Seattle and are very willing to work with customers to arrange a yard maintenance schedule that works for everyone. I've found this to be very rare. Devonshire is the right size for most jobs: big enough to service large (and neglected) yards, but not so big that they end up sun-contracting work out to folks you don't know. Highly recommend for one-time clean-ups and routine work. read more

Rick Fox and his team took down a collapsing retaining wall and put up a new one quickly, efficiently, and thoroughly. I got four bids before selecting Devonshire and theirs was by far the most thoughtful, detailed, and realistic - others were vague, too high, or too low. I don't feel like the bid or work were overpriced and I'm glad, upon seeing the final product, that I went with a company that is more interested in doing things the right way than presenting the lowest bid. Rick took time to answer my questions between the quote and the work. He was pretty responsive and very easy to work with, even though he was also managing several other jobs. Rick was great, but I was really impressed by the work. The project went a little quicker than expected, looks better than I expected, and the work site was left clean at the end (and at EOD every day of work). I would recommend Rick and Devonshire to a friend and I would use them again. read more

These guys are great. They arrive on time, do excellent work, and consistently clean up after themselves. I had them come out and top two tall (about 14') cypress hedges and bring them down to 8-10'. They arrived right on time and were at it the whole day. When they were done the hedges looked great and they had also cleaned up the rest of the yard and added mulch (which we had decided to do in an email with them). They also cleaned up clippings in the neighbor's yard since the hedges border our neighbor's property. I've only used these guys three times, but it's been consistently good and the price is very reasonable. I'll stay with them. read more

Devonshire came out in February to give me a quote and worked on my yard. The yard was neglected for years before I purchased my house. The work they did was reasonable to the quote they gave me and all the work was done in two days. What really impressed me was that they had some issues with some of my downspouts and they came out three different times to check on it and eventually cleaned it out. Things with this company started out fairly well--I appreciated how they quickly came out to look at my yard but I had to follow up to actually get the quote and to confirm everything. The yard cleanup work took longer than expected but turned out well. My issue is around billing and customer service. Clients expect the ability to pay by credit card when a product or service costs hundreds of dollars. Nothing was noted on the website, in the quote or in emails back and forth to indicate that a credit card wouldn't be accepted. This policy wasn't unveiled until after the work was completed. When I contacted the company manager about this, his response was sarcastic, patronizing and hostile to credit card companies, other landscaping companies and to clients who deign to use credit cards. I was taken aback by the lack of professionalism. I won't be using this company again or recommending it to others. There are a lot of good landscaping companies in West Seattle--customer service is just as important as the work performed. read more

During the epidemic I received notice from Devonshire that they were canceling our contract after years of service. I was stunned when I told them I had just been diagnosed with cancer and asked them to at least finish out our yearly contract and they said no and left me with no help. On the upside, they were doing an awful job and several months later we are now glad they left. We can't figure out what we were paying for...are yard is fake grass and my husband has been able to do a much better job weeding the rock beds and maintaining the bank than they ever did with minimal effort. read more

I am so happy with Devonshire! We signed up for bi weekly maintenance service, but our yard was just recently totally landscaped and our plants are still babies, so I wanted to find a place that did more than just mow and leave. That is definitely Devonshire. They provide their expert advice, help to prepare plants for fall/winter, and even will spray when plants come through cracks in the driveway. They leave a doorknob hanger with all the details of the visit before they leave. SO helpful since we're rarely home when they come. Their motto and goal is to assess the yard and do the things that will make the lawn look the absolute best (but will still always mow and edge each time). For example, if the beds don't really need raking this time but they notice some rogue plants growing over the fence from the neighbor, they'll trim those back instead of take time on something that isn't as necessary. Great time management. It's not just the work that's got me so happy, but the customer service is so great and goes so above and beyond what I expect. If you know me, I obsess over customer service and have really high expectations. Dan is always attentive through email, very clear in his explanations, super accommodating to budgets and schedules, and most recently (and what got me to finally write this review) I got an email from him out of nowhere just wanting to check in with us to make sure everything is going well and to ask for any feedback or suggestions to make our experience any better. You just don't get that type of customer service anymore! I hope that wherever we buy a house next can be serviced by Devonshire, because I just can't quit them. :) read more

We really gave Dan at Devonshire a challenge. We had a strict budget since we are renting a property in Magnolia, but have an agreement to maintain the property. When we called Dan, we described the property as "The House from Jumanji," it was very overgrown with Ivy, Blackberry bushes and had shown years of over-growth. We scheduled a one-time 8 hour cleanup as well as the bi-weekly maintenance. The one-time cleanup was absolutely amazing. It completely transformed our backyard to a useable space that is much easier to maintain. The guys worked very diligently and achieved more than i thought possible. The bi-weekly service has been excellent as well. Its amazing what they can accomplish in an hour! These guys did great work and required no guidance or nagging, which is rare. They just came in, did what I asked them to do, and did it well. Most of our communication was via email; despite this they seemed to understand what I was asking for. We have an 11k sqft lot that had overgrown gravel patches and raised beds. They refurbished all of these at a price competitive with other bids we got. They even refurbished our backyard play structure, which need re-staining and wood replacement. I was particularly impressed with the job they did there; I wouldn't have expected landscapers to be so thorough on a woodworking job. read more

Will and his crew worked with us (my neighbor and I) to 1) solve some problems with uneven elevation changes between our homes and 2) created an oasis in my back yard through patio stones and a lattice screen across one side. Will worked with my ideas and added some great practical advice like "don't cut down that beautiful lilac" (I thank him every spring when its in bloom). The combined project was with my neighbor to the west. Meanwhile, the neighbor to the east created a number of issues/problems - and Will was able to smooth things over and act as a magnificent buffer during that challenging time.
