He spent a lot of time making sure everything was working, even digging through the dirt to show my where the water was coming out of the drip system. Used to use this company for many years, but last year was the last. After their worker was here to service my system in the spring, I checked to make sure the control box was locked after he left and found that the lock had been broken. It appeared as if it had been forced open or closed, as little pieces of plastic from the latch were still at the bottom of the control box. When I called them to let them know, they said they'd talk to their worker and get back to me. They did call back and said that their worker said he didn't break the lock (of course). I said he was either mistaken or lying and I wanted Mike (the owner) to call me. When he did, he had nothing to offer except defending his employee. Well, OK then. Here's what a company who valued a long time customer would have done: they would have said "Sorry the lock is broken. Our guy said he didn't do it, but whatever the reason the lock is broken, how can we fix this for you?" It's clear they don't need my business. read more

A few years ago we gathered a bunch of estimates for residential irrigation given the increased heat in Seattle over summer. What struck me with many other quotes was the obstinacy of many businesses insisting on digging trenches, which was utterly insane given the topography of our plot which was very, very steep! The only possibility was to consider well-placed drip lines over the slopes and directly into the potted sections of the patio and deck. We already had a funky drip line system installed by the previous owner that was hideous, impractical and ugly. Enter Sound Irrigation:) Mike was kind, attentive and listened. He was the only one to make a considerate plan that suited our property and garden needs. His plan was clear, logical and wonderful. Aly is a very competent and kind office manager, so communication and scheduling is a breeze. I love the Rachio wi-fi smart control system. From my iPad or phone it is so easy to adjust the watering system to a number of sections depending on the weather changes. We had to disconnect two areas for a few seasons due to renovations. When Mike returned recently for a start-up, he took note of the change and made a point to improve that section's installation. Justin and Aldo were able to come out within a few hours and re-hook up that area as they had the required equipment on hand. We are so happy to support this local business. Kindness goes a long way. Waiting 6 weeks to get an appointment, Mike shows up, berates me about how dissatisfied I've been for 8 years with his services and how I should take my business elsewhere! I can't make this up. I discovered Sound Irrigation because a neighbor had them install their sprinkler system. I was able to get a quote quickly and have the installation completed within a month (it was early August when I requested, and they started the work in September). They arrived on time, as promised, and completed a pristine installation because they used a pipe puller instead of a trencher which left the yard looking great. After the installation, we did have a few issues, which were resolved quickly. First, my quote was for a Rachio timer, instead of the Rain Bird that they installed and Mike simply swapped that out for me. Second, I had some slight coverage issues on the parkway and they tweaked the coverage and added an additional head. Most recently, one of the tees from the water main to the sprinker system broke and Mike came by immediately on a Sunday to fix it. Absolutely no hassles! Thank you Mike! This project was a critical item for me earlier this Spring, and you really delivered to my expectations! Mike really listened to what I wanted in an automated irrigation system. (After years of deliberation and homegrown manual irrigation system attempts, I had some unique ideas.) Not once did he try to convince me that I didn't know what I wanted or that what I really wanted/needed was much more exten$ive. He even took the time to restate what I had explained and walk through everything element of the system with me before providing a bid to ensure he fully understood what I wanted. He gave a reasonable bid, worked closely with me on scheduling to ensure timing, work days, and completion all met my crazy schedule needs, and everything was put back together in a way that even I could barely remember where he had dug. Upon completion of the installation, he clearly explained the timer and all system components, as well as what else I could do with the system in the future, if I chose to expand or further adapt it to my needs. Also, the timer he chose seems intuitive and unobtrusive while offering ample system and zone scheduling flexibility. Terrible experience! Mike and a college student replaced many of my sprinkler heads with new heads that Mike said would be much better for my lawn. I did not ask Mike to replace those heads but since he said they'd be better, I took his advice. However, it's pretty obvious that they are not better as they shoot the water in a single stream that goes too far and is watering the sidewalk in front of my grass. So, my grass that was nice and green before Sound Irrigation came is now brown and dead in several sections of the lawn. They also changed part of my sprinkler system from sprinkler heads to a drip irrigation system. While installing the drip system they broke one of my expensive outdoor lights and did not even tell me. I discovered it shortly after they left. A few of the other outdoor (in ground) lights also no longer work because they cut the wires when installing the drip system. Because they replaced a bunch of my sprinkler heads that were working before, Mike promised to leave me a box of my old sprinkler heads before he left but he did not do so and he took them with him. I asked for them back the next day via email but they told me that they only took 2 sprinkler heads from my property and would not return them (they actually took 8 sprinkler heads from my property). Mike came to my house about 6 weeks before the job and we walked through the project ahead of time. Mike promised to install a drip line to the planter boxes in front of my house but when he came for the job he said he forgot to bring enough drip line to complete it so he put in half of what he said was needed and I would need to continue watering the flowers / plants by hand but that defeats the purpose of paying Sound Irrigation so I wouldn't have to do so. They also ran a line to put a new sprinkler head in bushes that previously didn't have one but the sprinkler head is too high so it shoots the water over the boxwood bushes and a good portion of the water lands on my driveway and is a big waste of water. I asked Sound Irrigation to come back to my house to fix the issues listed above and their response was that they "would not be able to satisfy me" and if I didn't pay their invoice immediately they would send it to collections which means I'll incur additional finance and interest charges. I now need to hire another irrigation company to fix the work that Sound Irrigation did. Mike offered me a slight discount but it is a fraction of the cost I'll incur for hiring someone else to fix all of the issues I now have to deal with in addition to having to reseed my lawn after another company installs sprinkler heads that are good for my lawn and don't waste so much water. read more

Loved them to do winterizing but needed a riding arena watered evenly - and I mean EVENLY, footing for competing (or any) horse should not be a compromise. Dimensions 198x66 (6 heads on each side of the 198' long side) and the previous system (installed approx 10 yrs ago) watered the sides nice and even but left approx 5 foot unwatered area down the centerline (I hand watered it for many years and really got tired of the time drain every evening) The heads pop up from the sides of the arena to water then disappear. Sound Irrigation came and said they could fix the issue. Installed new heads and it is WORSE! I have these big V shaped voids of water (dry area) in front of every sprinkler head. They came to try and fix/adjust it and proclaimed "I cant believe this didn't happen before" like I was telling a fib (this was seriously insulting)..I politely explained "I would NOT have paid money to make my situation worse!" Then he said, nothing more I can do except put big extenders on or a big power/pressure booster ("more expensive", their words). I asked for my old sprinkler heads back (they said they have them) but haven't heard. If I could get the old ones back I would re-install them myself! Pretty sure some of you may have dead grass/plants due to this issue! Update- Talked to Mike and he was going to work with me on this. New update- They wanted me to take the "review" off/down before they came back and have not returned my old sprinkler heads. I have received a number of emails telling me "I heard it wrong". Sad. Mike is right, don't hire someone that waters grass to water an arena! The original company I hired did do arenas (I had an issue with the "wife" not the installation / service) I have now replaced the sprinkler heads and adjusted them myself and they are working great! I called Sound Irrigation because I couldn't get the sprinkler system at my in-laws' house to work. I tried Aquasense first, because they've been there before, even though their service is abysmal. Sound gave me a two hour window during which they'd arrive, unlike Aquasense which uses the four hour hold and then don't send the right guys. Mike from Sound showed up five minutes early and had things running perfectly in half an hour. And he came less than a week after I called in a very hot and dry spell so I'm sure the demand is high this year. Great service, good guy: he'll get the call from now on. read more

We contacted Sound Irrigation towards the end of May to get an estimate on a new system in our very large backyard. A nice gentleman by the name of Justin showed up ON TIME a few days later. He quickly learned we didn't know a lot about sprinkler systems and he very patiently walked us through some options, never pushing one over the other. I asked for a quote and Mike delivered it in a few days. My husband and I decided on the full system for hte backyard with the bigger controls to add the front yard at a later date. we also went with the wireless system which is awesome!! Due to the time of year, we had to wait 3 weeks for an appointment but it was worth it. They showed up on the install day ON TIME, were very professional again and walked us through their install plan. We left for the day, came back from work and they were gone but all their tools and supplies were nicely stored in one area and not all over. The trench lines through our grass were so clean and precise that the grass was barely disturbed. The next day they came back, finished and Mike showed up after 5pm (when we get home from work) to give a demonstration of our new, AMAZING, system and the 3 zones (2 for the big yard & 1 for the garden) they setup. After countless emails and phone calls he claims he was going to finish the job but has not. We are going with another company.
