Will's team designed and created a tranquil and lovely backyard out of what was a sad, dark, weedy mud pit! Rick had wonderful suggestions and solutions to address my many requirements. He was able to expand the footprint of the patio area with flagstone without making the yard appear stark. He addressed tricky irrigation issues and was creative in making my small yard seem bigger and multilevel. I also loved the plant selections. Rick recommended plants that I would not have thought of. The hard scape design incorporated an existing patio which was great, saving a perfectly fine patio and reducing waste. The project was completed in just over a week. This summer, I finally gave up on maintaining my yard. I called three different places for estimates, and while Devonshire was not the lowest cost, they were very competitive in their pricing. This is the second time I have had Devonshire Landscapes work on the landscaping at my rental property. Last time they pulled the rockery, beds and yard into shape and planted plants, grass and shrubs that still look good. This time they did a great job of restoring the good looks of the neglected beds and yard. Disaster is probably the most appropriate adjective I can think of to describe my yard: between a lack of tools and time, I was looking at a yard I wouldn't share with anyone, let alone family due to the impending holiday season. After looking and talking to various landscaping companies, Devonshire stood out as the best; I could not agree more. Not only did Dan respond to each of my request promptly, he was able to provide a quick and accurate quote within a day of my initial request. In addition, the quote included items they could address that I would have never noticed, as well as what materials they could reuse to save me money. With a 8:30 start time, I couldn't believe when they showed up early - an unheard of practice in this day in age. By the time they finished, I couldn't believe my eyes; I had never seen my yard look better. In fact, it looked so good I'm tempted to forgo doing yard work and have them tend to my landscape going forward. After transferring over to Will, Dan and their team, our yard looks great and they do far more "maintenance" then our previous team- for the same price! I have had several landscaping companies do work for me in the last seven years and Devonshire is by far the best. In the past I used a company whose owner seemed to know about plants, but he would send out a crew who knew nothing and butchered my trees and shrubs with pruning and mangled plantings. Devonshire's crew is well led by an extremely experienced and knowledgeable manager, Rick, and they all have extensive know-how in their own right. They are the most professional crew I have ever had work for me. I had Rick design a planting area and he did a phenomenal job of mixing existing plants that were either ill-placed or under-utilized in other areas of my yard, with new plants. Not only did this save us money, but it evened out our whole landscaping look and feel and created cohesion. I feel so lucky to have found Devonshire. They were of course a referral from a very satisfied customer and I in turn have referred them to several other families in addition to posting this. Oh, and as for cost, they were competitive with other bids I received. Great landscaping and yard service. We had them built a fence, gate and create a stone patio and walkway a couple years ago. Since then we have used them for monthly maintenance. Will and the team at Devonshire are excellent. I had another company and was never satisfied with their work. I've now had Devonshire for years and they've never disappointed me. They arrive and work efficiently the entire time, doing whatever is needed on the property - trimming bushes, mowing, edging, cutting back the dead flowers, gathering leaves, keeping the walkways clear or fertilizing the grass. Will is awesome. I woke him up on a snowy morning in the middle of winter needing to have a small yard paved and fenced in front of a townhouse we had just purchased. He had great ideas that I would have never imagined. He and his team worked over New Years weekend and did a spectacular job installing a fence, pavers and some doggie turf. We just had our backyard done by Devonshire Landscape. We never spent time back there because it was so neglected and we didn't have the skills or energy to take it on. We made contact with Rick at Devonshire who is easy to talk to and responds promptly to emails. We gave him some idea of what we wanted and he drew up a plan and got us a quote in a very short time. We hired Devonshire Landscapes to 'help' our backyard. We only had a vision and a rough sketch. Rick was able to easily see our vision and make it a reality. Rick and his crew offered suggestions on how we could improve the outcome. And it was easy for us to see that Devonshire Landscapes does not skimp on materials or the level of quality of their workmanship. The project took a few days longer than estimated but it wasn't a problem for us as we didn't have a date we 'needed' it done by. Something else that was really nice is that Devonshire didn't 'nickel and dime' with respect to the cost. They absorbed small changes in cost without change orders. My husband and I appreciated that. I did a little research on Yelp and picked a landscaper based on the number of positive reviews. I sent them an email late one afternoon and within a few hours I had been passed on to Will at Devonshire (the first company did not service Des Moines, but was kind enough to send me to someone who would). Will responded nearly instantaneously, and made himself available the next morning to look at our project. I had recently acquired a home that had not had any yard work done in probably a year - this was a major, major clean up. It was a serious mess. Will had his team out there within days, and they tamed the ivy, English laurels, and what was previously a lawn...along with laying bark and gravel where needed and hauling off what had to be several truck loads of yard waste. I believe the only reason these guys don't have tons of good ratings is that they haven't been truly discovered by the Yelp community. Great job, great customer service. In fact, these guys will now be doing the maintenance on this property. read more
