A couple of weeks after I published my original review of Devocion on Yelp!, I received the following note from one Ronny A.: Just a Note 8/11/2018 For your review of: Devocion Because of ppl like you this world is getting destroyed a day at a time a receipt at a time! Those 2 cons you put there is what makes that company great! You fool! Go give that bad review to your accounting department which are asking for printed receipt instead of an email confirmation which would do the same and stop critizing [sic] people who are actually helping the wold [sic]! Ronny A[full name shortened] Here is the original review that I wrote in late July: Cute room, comfortable, friendly staff, good coffee drinks, reasonably priced. BUT... 1) they don't take cash, only plastic, and 2) they don't produce paper receipts, only electronic ones via text or email Both of these are annoyances; the second is an invasion of privacy. Look, I'm just as environmentally conscious as the next person, but this is highly inconvenient for those of us who need to produce paper receipts for business accounting purposes. Therefore, my associates and I will need to take our meetings elsewhere. Too bad, because we otherwise liked the place. read more

Devoción - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

The decor and seating arrangement of this location (they have a few around NYC) is just really lovely. The center ring of plants really give the room an airy vibe, insulate conversations and neatly split the room in half. The barista who helped me answered all my questions about flavor notes and gave me a run-down on all their pastries. The first time I went I got the drip coffee and a savory scone. Coffee was good, on the fruitier acidic side, but great with cream. The scone had a good toasted texture, not to crumbly and perfect for a late breakfast. Lot's of seating options at around 11am in the morning on a weekday. The second time, I went in the afternoon and just got the drip coffee again. I found a spot by the window to work on my laptop. A lot of other laptop workers were there, but I noticed the seats closer to the center tend to be filled by people solo or talking. It is, mercifully, not too loud, almost quiet in there. Definitely a new favorite! FYI, they are cashless, card only! read more

Better in person yet still magazine worthy. I found out about Devocion because I saw it in a modern architecture magazine called Dwell, and put it on my short list of things to visit in Brooklyn. Lone and behold, I found myself in need of a work space, and I was a few blocks away from this fine establishment. I was so excited to check out the space. Even on a busy Friday, I was able to find a seat with a plug within 10 minutes of walking in. The space is open with beautifully worn yellow tile, a central seating nook that is between garden and patio with tons of natural light. You have a selection of fine columbian coffees to choose from that will keep you caffeinated for your entire experience and stimulated with a vibrant yellow mug. That's exactly what I wanted, and these details make it feel like a future home rather than a crammed coffee shop. I'll be back whenever I'm in the neighborhood. read more

Love the coffee and guava croissant. Really cute atmosphere full of foliage and excellent service.

Ay yi yi! As a Colombian, I am ashamed that this overpriced and soulless coffee shop passes as a "great café" purveyor of Colombian coffee! No wonder the Colombian coffee market is depressed. Each of my three visits have been strikeouts. The so-called fresh brew, is stomach churning acid. The lattes are half-assed, and the service is all-assed. As for the "exotic" decor, its perfect for the DoBRO dummies that think it's so cool to be seen in the lovely landscaped garden (the only good feature), which, unfortunately, takes up more than half the seating space. Ambience? Well the music is a generic mix of "Latin", sure to satisfy anybody with no knowledge of real Colombian music. Tips: hit Reset, get Real, and let your Colombianidad shine. read more

Very beautiful interior- I've been to a Devocion in another part of Brooklyn and this one is just as stunning. Coffee is amazing, place has such a zen vibe. You can go and hang out with friends and take a book to study. Staff is super friendly and they have vegan options which is always a plus! read more

Devoción - My tasty cappuccino. - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

The cold brew was strong and delicious. The coffee shop was filled with lots of natural elements - wood tables and chairs, variety of beautiful plants, and large windows to bring in the natural light. It created a beautiful atmosphere to sit and drink coffee on a rainy day. read more

Such a beautiful cafe. i loved being surrounded by so many plants. i ordered a mocha because they didn't make chai lattes, and my mocha was delicious. it had a cute design on top. i worked there while drinking my mocha latte, and found myself more productive than usual. the staff were very kind. i really love how green this cafe is. will definitely go again :) read more

The coffee is really good, but the staff are really elitist. Both times I've gone here the staff acted like they were doing you a favor by serving you. The coffee and food are delicious though. Weird ambience. read more

This is my go-to-spot for my daily work day. The coffee is great, the table tops are decently sized, outlets are strategically placed, and it's beautiful. Pros: The coffee is great and, again, it's a great place to work for a freelancer who needs stable internet and outlets. You'll see a lot of people collaborating here often. Cons: Surprisingly, the pastries are... not great. You'd expect Bien Cuit or quality options but they taste like they were purchased from the corner store. It gets pretty crowded so sometimes it's hard to find a seat if you come late. The biggest downside is that, every time I work here, there seems to be little bugs (gnats?) flying around. read more

Great coffee and croissants, however the service is terrible. They take 3 min per person to make cold brew.

THe BEST glass of cold brew and cup of pour over I have ever tasted. I loved the style of this coffee shop & think their coffee if excellent. Not just a normal cup of coffee. You must try it! read more

This cafe is just okay. The space is beautiful but the coffee, food options, and staff are mediocre. Usually, the place is pretty crowded, but I was pleased to find an empty seat with ease on a Saturday. Come to find out (after already dropping $5 on a coffee), they no longer have WiFi available on the weekends. Now I know why this place was empty. This is pretty disappointing as I spent the $5 knowing I'd be here for a few hours and likely would've made another purchase within that time frame. Instead, I left and will remember to not spend my money here anymore. There's also plenty of space for more tables and seating. Just move a few plants over and you're good. read more

I was a bit excited to learn they opened another location in Brooklyn which for me it's easier to get to than Williamsburg. A bit smaller and less seating area and thus less grandiose feel when you enter the shop compared to the other location. Nevertheless, the interior deco is comparable (see pics). I ordered a cortado - a bit sour taste at first then finish strong with bitterness. A bit strong for my liking but my friend who likes strong coffee likes it. May return for cappuccino (hopefully less strong for me) or try one of the aromatic drinks (look interesting) read more

Incredibly cute coffee shop downtown Brooklyn. I arrived around 11am on a Monday and the shop was quite full with customers on laptops, enjoying free wifi. I wanted to stick around to enjoy the ambiance of the shop & the barista had no problem with me moving a chair near a wall-plug. I enjoyed a blueberry muffin and iced latte before an actual seat opened up about 7-10 minutes after my arrival and I stayed until about 4pm. The music went from Ella Fitzgerald, and Duke Ellington to Micheal Jackson over the course of the day--great vibes for sure! Overall: Great staff, good coffee, & the space is well kept. Great spot to chill by yourself, chat with a friend or productively get work done. read more

I tried the iced latte was so good, The smell and the taste all make me happy. Guava croissant very fresh

An oasis of sorts. Almost out of place in the neighborhood but most welcome. First impression...the place was plush with loads of oversized plants and comfy looking seating. Went during what I considered to be "off-peak" time and the place had 75% of the seats occupied. There was a line of people by the bathroom whom were not patrons. I waited to order by a lady hiding by the register on her phone. She pops up a couple of minutes later and says, "take your time". I think I'm ready to order. Got a cappuccino and chocolate croissant. Both were above average and price was typical of the new Brooklyn. Time it took for the barista to prepare was impeccable. The sugar/milk station afterwards was a mess and the trash was overflowing. The raw sugar container was greasy, which I thought was gross and weird but I digress. 3 stars for the great coffee, pastries and ambiance. read more

Chose this spot because it's a roaster and wanted to buy beans to bring home, although the beans could have been marketed better the coffees we purchased were very good. Got both the drip and a latte made with almond milk. Bonus is the decor - lots of greenery! read more

For the footprint of this coffee shop, I wish they had more seats available. Coffee is great and smooth but I don't ever get the chance to hang out and enjoy the place because the seats are always taken. read more

I went to Devocion this morning on Livingston Street in Brooklyn. They advertised that they open at 7:30 a.m. I got there early and waited inside the apartment building around the corner from them until 7:30 a.m. When I got to the door it was 7:33 a.m. They still was not open. Finally, a white man came to open the door like he really did not want to open yet. I was waiting at the door with another customer who was white. He let us in. I was first to order a coffee and pastry. He took my order and I paid. He proceeded to ignore my order and ask the white lady behind me what she wanted and he made her coffee and had me wait and sent her on her way. I said to him where is my coffee? I'm still waiting. He had an attitude with me and said I made her cofffe first because of the kind of coffee she wanted. He complained that he had to steam my milk and it takes longer. This is absurd. It take seconds to steam milk. It don't matter what kind of coffee it is my coffee was ordered first and i never seen a customer have to wait for a person behind them get their coffee first and be ignored. I asked was it because I was black. He laughed and thought it was funny. I asked for the manager and the white lady there was the manager who was right behind the counter who knew what happened. She did not care she just asked me if I wanted a refund I said yes refund it back to my bank card. I need to file a formal complaint with someone higher than the local store manager. Who is the owner? read more

Good place to go to if you're in the area. Nothing to spectacular or outstanding about the coffees but they are good and do their job. Cashier could have been a bit nicer. Love the interior space design. Very unique and makes me feel calm. Not too many places to sit when I was there though. read more

Friendly service, expertly crafted espresso drinks and a guava and cheese croissant that was both tasty and beautiful!!

I was intrigued by this place having noticed the beautiful interior during my morning commute. Unfortunately though this place has little to offer besides its aesthetics. The staff is bitchy and honestly they just look sad and unhappy to be here. I asked what one of the pastries was in the case and just got a blunt "I don't know". I've never heard that before in a coffee shop. This place could also accommodate way more seating. I wound up drinking my cold brew on a bench with a tiny stool as a table. All in all the coffee was decent so if you're just looking for a quick grab and go this place fine...but if you're looking for a relaxing, enjoyable experience definitely skip Devoción. read more

I could be bias given that this place is so freaking convenient for where I live, but I love it. Great coffee, food and overall ambience. If I'm ever WFH this is my go to afternoon spot to get shit done. Personal faves: iced oat milk latte (10/10), kale/feta croissant (10/10). read more

High quality coffee. Not much of a variety of food or pastries but still great place to chill talk and even study.

Love this garden inspired coffee shop! Ordered a latte and nitro cold brew and both were delicious! No tea selection here which was a bummer, but then again, we live in a coffee culture. read more

The cofee shop is very well decorated. My issue with this place is the service I recieved. I ordered an Americano and my husband ordered a Toro drip coffee. We were given to go cups for our drinks when we were staying. We sat sown only to notice EVERYONE next to us were given beautiful yellow ceramic mugs with matching saucers. I asked the cashier why were we given to go cups and she said "Ooohhhh..Do you want a cup?" She washed one cup off and tried to give me another cup without washing it. That was not clean at all. I dont want to assume she was not used to catering to our demographic. Nevertheless, she seem looked annoyed that I requested the same service as the other patrons. Gave me a 2 cups with saucers. I really like the coffee and the music. To bad the cashier was rude. read more

I'm not a big coffee drinker so this may not be the best review but the ambiance was amazing and the place is very clean and mostly uncrowded for DT BK. read more

Elevated coffee. This place is pricey, but what they do - they do incredibly well. Walking in they have this massive indoor garden that is adorned on the sides by tables. They have a pretty bare coffee bar, but their nitro cold brew is amazing. Strong, bitter, and hits the spot. You can definitely come here to get work done, but I wouldn't say this is one of the biggest coffee shops in town. It's a great place to catch up with a friend. read more

Devotion always hit the spot amazing coffee with just the right amount of milk to coffee ration in a latte. Smooth af no need to add sugar to mask bad taste this coffee is pure nirvana!! A coffee lover dream..I dont care about the pastries or small selection of type of drink. It's a specialty coffee shop not Starbucks so yeah. If you appreciate good coffee this is a place to get it. read more

Atmosphere is nice but they have no teas and their baked goods look day old at best. If the muffins are wrapped in the brown paper it automatically makes me think they come from a hotel. read more

Really spacious and trendy coffee shop -- I loved the natural elements and warm feel. I came on a Sunday and lots of people were working here as well. The only downside is that options for coffee/beverages and snacks seem to be less than what I'm used to (for example, no chai and they only had a few pastries). read more

Don't let the gorgeous decor fool you. The coffee is bad. So bad. I work down the street, so I've been here several times, and each time the coffee is sour. For reference, I like strong, bitter coffee and drink it black. I have had a cortado, drip coffee, and the nitro cold brew, and every drink here tastes old, sour, and like whatever they made to brew the coffee hasn't been cleaned in ages. The scone I tried was also damp and spongey. To top it all off, the prices are OUTRAGEOUS. Cute plants tho. read more

Amazing espresso and cold brew, and great curbside ordering/pickup, very short wait time. The savory pastries are delicious as well. Great service and only good things to say about them. read more

The cutest little coffee spot with delicious croissants. They are seriously the best I've ever had!!

Located in a new, luxury apartment complex, it has its own entrance, which means residents still need to step out of the building to enter, but it's still especially convenient for anyone living here. The knock on Devocion is that it's kind of overpriced, especially since their coffee comes in fairly small servings. That's true of this location as well as the others. The pastries are fine, but nothing I'd go out of my way for. And though they have wi-fi, it can be annoying that it's turned off on the weekends. If you get past these drawbacks, it can be a really nice for coffee. Even though it's not big, it's never been crowded when I go (i.e. I can get a seat with a friend), it's never loud so conversations are easy, and as someone else mentioned, the seating arrangement and the decor is lovely. (I especially like the plants and trees - I wish more coffee shops had that.) They often give coupons after each transaction if they have your email, so that compensates for the higher prices. (You also get one for $10 on your birthday.) The best part though is the coffee itself. Again, a little small, but they make great coffee. I personally recommend the pour over special, which usually takes 5 to 10 minutes to make depending on how busy they are. (It's usually 5 for me.) It's not big but I savor it, with a mixture of cream and milk (they keep containers for both and skim milk on the counter) and raw sugar as sweetener. I rarely get more than two, often just one, over the course of a friendly conversation. read more

I've wanted to come here for so long, but the Williamsburg location was always packed. Then I came across this location and was in the neighborhood, so why not. They definitely know how to make good coffee. Was kind of disappointed they didn't have any other flavors or matcha though. They didn't even have chocolate to make a mocha, so I had a regular latte On the weekend, they ran out of a lot of snacks/pastries pretty early on. The decor is very cute like the other locations, filled with plants everywhere. I probably won't come back though. I like my flavored coffee and tea drinks. This place was pretty busy on the weekend with people reading, catching up, hiding from the cold, etc. read more

Their furniture and the use of plants suggest that they are looking to be a hip and cool place. However, when you visit there in person you would feel like you're at au bon pain or normal starbucks at best. I asked for Vanilla latte but they don't have such option (as aspiring fancy coffeshops would). They had oat milk though! (for sure) read more
