I ate lunch here on Wednesday 29Mar17. I had the Chicago hot dog and it was very good. I also had an order of fries the fries were not my favorite. I also got a peanut butter shake that was very good. read more

Devil Dawgs - South State - The employees at Devil Dawgs are so nice and welcoming! two thumbs up for great customer service! - Hot Dogs Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Hot dogs. Yes, this delicious and mouth-watering delight is one of the most love foods in Chicago (right behind pizza, of course). Any Chicagoan can tell you that if a restaurant does not have a fantastic and unforgettable hot dog in this city, then that restaurant may as well shut down. Most Chicagoans know that "Hot Doug's" is the best hot dog-joint in Chicago, but ever since its closing, there has to be a new king, right? Well, because of some positive reviews, I decided to try a new and well favored restaurant - Devil Dawgs, and let me tell you, this restaurant did not disappoint. Walking into Devil Dawgs, the atmosphere is extremely comfortable. There are numerous tables for you and your friends or family to sit down and relax. The restaurant is beautifully designed with murals along the walls, representing Chicago, such as Wrigley Field, DePaul University, Downtown Chicago, et cetera. Let alone, the menu some creative names to their foods: 'Hot Green Chile Cheddar Dawg', 'Jose Caliente Dawg', 'Blue Demon Dawg', et cetera. The Jose Caliente Dawg contained Spicy Pico De Gallo, Cucumber, and Devil Sauce while the Blue Demon Dawg consisted of Devil Sauce, Spicy Mustard, Onions, Pickles, and Sauerkraut. This creativity is evidently superlative. My imagination lured me to try the 'Hot Green Chile Cheddar Dawg', and it was delicious. This Dawg contained green chiles, onions, spicy mustard, ketchup, giardiniera, tomatoes, and pickles. When my teeth and the dawg met together for the first time, we suddenly became married; I never wanted to let it go! The dawg was perfectly salted, steamed, and spiced, and the bun was flawlessly fluffed. The Cheddar had an impeccable balance; it was not too cheesy nor did it need more cheese. Every savory bite on that tasty and elegant meat felt like a new experience. This Dawg is a magician! At the moment, it made my brain vanish away my five page paper and my programming assignment. I dreaded the fact that when I took a bite after another and another of this Dawg, then I would soon see the end of this epic masterpiece, but like some marriages, there is always an ending. But hot dog haters, do not despair - there are plenty of other options for you. There are onion rings, chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, and shockingly, there are veggie-options. One of my friends tried "the shroom" from the veggie part of the menu, which costs around $5. My friend let me have a bite, and when I mashed my teeth into that shroom, I swear for a moment I became a vegetarian. It is definitely worth trying! This green treat consisted of Portabella Mushroom, Pepper Jack Cheese, Pickles, Tomatoes, Spicy Mustard, and grilled onions. Devil Dawgs presents a new, creative style to Chicago hot dogs. If someone wants a cheaper hot dog and does not care about the full experience at a restaurant, then I recommend that they go to Jim's or Maxwell's. However, if someone wants to go to a restaurant that sells a delectable hot dog and can sit down and enjoy the creativity of the restaurant, then they should go to Devil Dawgs. Undoubtedly, it has one of the best hot dogs in Chicago; however, does it match up or defeat the previous king, "Hot Dougs", of Chicago hot dogs? Well, Devil Dawgs does not reach that level yet because the hot dogs are much smaller and slimmer than Hot Dougs' hot dogs, but still, it is a phenomenal restaurant that has phenomenal and cheap hot dogs, ranging from $3 - $6; Devil Dawgs is definitely worth trying. read more

Devil Dawgs - South State - My husband wasn't about to share! - Hot Dogs Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I was planning on grabbing a quick bite before attending a training. What could be quicker than a hot dog? There was no line and it looked like only a couple of peopke were waiting for their orders. So it seemed like a simple plan. But when I approached the two people at the register. The women (not in uniform, so probably management) told me she would be with me shortly. It looked like she was doing some kind of POS training related to GrubHub. I waited for a few minutes while she continued her training session. After about 5 minutes that felt like an eternity, I turned and left. There is a way to expedite orders prior to ringing them into the register. Not one of the staff members attempted to stop me or apologize for the delay. I liked their concept, but I refuse to tolerate poor customer service. So I went next door to Jimmy Johns. If it were possible, I would not have given them any stars for this visit. They should pay more attention to the customers in-person, otherwise they will have more dissatisfied customers like me. read more

I love the cheeseburger, the basic one, and their fries are good too. The prices are also reasonable. There's no reason not to go here, unless of course you're seeing your cardiologist soon afterwards. Enjoy! read more

This was EVERYTHING I wanted in a chicago dog. It was perfect- the "hole in the wall" ambience added to the experience in my opinion. When my daughter was overwhelmed by how cheezy the bacon cheese dog was, they gave me a fresh bun for her without question or hassle. Walked a mile to this place because it was highly rated and recommended and it lived up to it 100%. Don't get those imposter dogs. Go here read more

Recently I was appalled when I saw a worker at Devil Dawgs spit in a customer's food and told him to leave the restaurant. The customer was a teen and was seemingly very polite and did leave peacefully. Apparently he was a supporter Of the President-elect. Nonetheless no one deserves to be treated that way and it was despicable. I will never eat at this place again. read more

Well, I was visiting Chicago for a weekend and found devil dawgs. I was really excited because they are inexpensive and they looked tasty. My first experience at the DAWG was good. I enjoyed what I got even though I don't especially like hot dogs. But I live for spicy food and their green chili dog met the criteria. I vowed I would be back before my trip was through. But as life goes, I was busy most of the next day. I looked and devil dawgs should've been open to midnight for a nice evening snack. I made it just in time at 11:44. Or so I thought. But they had already locked the doors. The workers looked at me like a circus freak and did not bother to even apologize for being closed early and just kept on cleaning. There were even still people in there eating. Of course, I was disappointed so I called and after four calls the worker claimed they were open til midnight.... Even though it was still only 11:50. Anyways, I did not get my last fix and they clearly didn't care about the fact that they closed early or that someone was interested in spending money at their establishment. read more

The food here is great and the desserts are awesome too. But there is a lot of screaming, and it's a bit cramped though.

greasy, somewhat fast and fair; would be interesting to see them stretch a bit more with the dogs, ingredients and the flavors

Recently moved a few blocks south of this place so thought I'd try it out. I ordered a burger...big mistake. The meat wasn't much bigger than a White Castle burger and the bun was soaked in grease to the point it was useless. I tossed the bun away and just ate the meat which was basically the same as a McDonald's burger. Don't waste your time or money at this place....tho it's convenient to me I won't be going there again and neither should anyone else. read more

Why is it so hard for these guys to honor their hours? Sunday hours are clearly stated as 10am-12am. I get there at 11:45 and the door is locked. The employees waved when I knocked... I will not recommend this place read more

The food was fine, with the exception of the onion rings which were more like onion soup. The frustrating part was that the loud radio was cutting out every 5 seconds and no one fixed it after we asked them to. Maybe it was cutting out in the dining area and not behind the counter? I don't know. It's not a big place. We had to leave, the noise was too irritating. read more

This is the best place for late night cravings. I order from this place at least twice weekly. And their clucker sandwich is another story. HIGHLY recommended. read more

Visiting Chicago for the first time and I know i either need to get deep dish, Italian beef, or a hot dog. I came here looking to experience a Chicago style dog and it for sure trumps every other hot dog I've tried, keep doing your thing I'll be back every time I'm in town for sure. read more

bout as good as I could expect for delivery of Chicago hot dogs, just watch your ass the next day...

Hmmm....used to like devil dawgs, but today they automatically added tip on my bill...whilst they have a tip jar on the counter!!! SHADY and GREEDY!!! Although lady clerk with glasses was super nice and made several attempts to remove charge until it was deleted. Let me decide if I want to tip! On top of everything else cook dude was watching me as i was getting napkins, etc as if i was trying to steal!!! I should have demanded a refund. I will never eat here again! I will stick to five guys in hyde park!! read more

The menu was pretty broad. I ended up getting cheese fries with bacon and cooked onion. The portion was huge! I definitely could have eaten it for 2-3 meals. Service was also very acceptable - cashier was friendly and patient! The wait wasn't long either and it was a bit busy at 1 AM Sunday morning. read more

I too was excited about a fast food place finally opening up around the corner from me but I just had my first visit and it will probably be a long time before I go back. I paid $7 for the BBQ bacon cheeseburger combo and it was the tiniest burger I have ever purchased if you don't count White Castle sliders. Seriously small and very unfulfilling, I'm really turned off on how cheap the owners of this place chose to run it. I gave them an extra star because the fries are fresh cut. If i do go back I will not order their teeny tiny burger again that's for sure and I will probably bring a sandwich with me just so I don't leave hungry. This place isn't for me, I like a burger which is bigger then 2 bites, 3 tops and this is no exaggeration. read more

Delicious! We made a quick family trip to Chicago and had dogs delivered to our room. Delivery was prompt, food was delicious and as ordered and very affordable! We'll definitely have it again when we are back in town. read more

I really appreciated how they had veggie dogs available. This is a great place to go if you are vegetarian but want to try the famous Chicago style hot dot. I was skeptical upon seeing the fluorescent green relish, but overall, the toppings really worked together. read more

Devil Dawgs is a great restaurant. It's great that a burger and shake joint is open so late. The shakes are the best, and you can't go wrong with any of the food here. My one issue with this fine establishment is that every time I get Devil Dawgs and then I go to sleep, I have this reoccurring, vivid dream that I am inside Luigi's Mansion for the Nintendo Gamecube. I'm curious if anyone else experiences this. read more

Best Shake in Chicago. Love the CLEAN environment and easy parking. Steakburger is delicious.

I went to this place for the first time today. I had no idea that their burgers are basically a large slider. And only American cheese. Eh....probably won't go back. read more

Stopped in for a traditional chicago dog, bag o' rings and a peanut butter and dark chocolate (Ghirardelli btw) shake. It was fantastic! Reasonably priced (about $13 for all of the above), wicked friendly staff and plenty of seating even during the busy lunch hour. If you're in town definitely stop by :) read more

Quick bite with a lot of options. Enjoyed the dawgs and the fries were delicious! Not a lot of space to sit and eat, but just enough for the lunch crowd. Low key joint. Hope i get to enjoy it sometime in the darker hours. :) read more

I'm going to give a one star review for every day that this place isn't open for its scheduled hours. I was so excited when this place opened, but it has not once been open for its scheduled hours on a week day: a massive disappointment. You contribute nothing to the south loop if you aren't open late. read more

Food was great and prices are reasonable. Service is also quick. Not a lot of seating during a busy lunch rush though.

Dogs were small and the ingredients seemed like what you might get from the supermarket deli. Not the Chicago hot dog experience I was hoping for. Ambience and Service were spot on. read more

The food is always hot and delicious, and the guys behind the counter work super hard. They give you a ton of fries even if you order the small, too. I always get the burger, which is smaller than most people are used to but perfectly proportioned (I don't like big burgers) and not too much bun. Thanks for always giving me the food I want, Devil Dawgs! read more

Was taking a class not too far from this place and it did not disappoint. Had the Chicago dog and a Cheeseburger along with a side of cheese fries. Wouldn't hesitate to stop back here again and definitely worth the stop. read more

ThE Best burger I ever had. This means a lot coming from me because I am pretty particular about a good burger. I got the double cheese with bacon and cheese fries. I feel like I might find myself making "crave drives" to this place. Thanks for the experience. read more

I can't rave about this place enough. I probably go there at least once a week. The clucker sandwich is one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had. Huge piece of chicken fried to perfection. Pretzel bun. Slaw and pickles taste great as well. Some type of special sauce for the slaw and the pickles aren't your regular dill. This sandwich alone can fill you up. Onion rings are so light and delicious. The awesome sauce that goes with it is my favorite. Milkshakes are good as well. I initially went there for the hot dogs which taste equally as great, but the clucker sold me. I'm a loyal customer. read more

I must have caught these guys on a bad night (6/22). I ordered a shake, Chicago dog and onion rings. After 30 minutes I got my shake and at 40 minutes I decided to just get a refund - I had a show to catch and making that show was more important to me. Turns out, the order slips were falling behind the counter and the cooks weren't getting them. In the time I was waiting for my food, this happened on two different occasions. There were usually a group of 5 orders that were skipped. Honest mistake. I get it, these things happen. The cooks were obviously flustered because they didn't know at the time what was happening. I'm a little disappointed I didn't even get an apology from the guy at the register. The Chocolate Peanut Butter shake was decent. I'd like to give Devil Dawgs on S. State another try sometime. Dogs are a dime a dozen in this town. I hope the service and operations have improved next time I stop in. read more

Found this place on a whim, just a short walk from our hotel. The hot dogs were great as were the fries, and the milkshakes were fantastic. If we weren't from out of town, this would be a normal go-to spot for us. read more

We were staying at the Palmer House and since the weather wasn't cooperating (super windy and sleet) we decided to stay in for dinner. The hotel restaurants' menus didn't intrigue us either so we decided to look for places that delivered. I came across Devil Dawgs and after looking at the menu, it seemed like it fit the bill. We ordered the Chicago dog, the Seoul Dog, the Clucker chicken sandwich and the Bacon cheese dog. All the hot dogs were very tasty. My husband, the Chicagoan said the Chicago dog was exactly what he was looking for. I had to try the Seoul dog because of the kimchi topping...and it was fantastic. It satisfied my half Korean tastebuds as well as my Heinz 57 half lol. My husband and I shared the Clucker chicken sandwich and we both loved it. The chicken strips were nice and crunchy and well-seasoned and the slaw had nice flavor. My 3 year old had a bacon cheese dog and ate almost all of it and she never ever finishes a hot dog by herself. This was definitely a take out win in our book! read more
