This is the second time I take my computer here for repair and the experience this time was even better than the first. They ordered a new part and replaced it within 24 hours. They have the same system to diagnose computers as Apple, so it's pretty much the same as if you took your computer to an Apple store for repair but without the lines and wait. The staff is very friendly, specially Don (the gentleman who fixes most computers) who is knowledgeable and shows that he really cares about the customers. I highly recommend this place! read more

Turned working iPad into a brick - wish I could give them zero stars. I had used Advanced Micro previously for some Mac repairs and was generally pleased with their service. I recently brought in an iPad with a hairline crack in the screen for glass replacement (AMS offered a flat price for this kind of repair). The crack had occurred almost a year before I had brought it in for repair and had worked perfectly for all of that time. When my wife went back to pick it up, they said it wasn't ready because a portion of the screen wasn't responsive to touches. They said they would try to repair again with a new part. This whole process was repeated for a couple of few weeks (try a new part, didn't work) until finally they said that they couldn't repair it. The iPad now was completely broken (a "brick"). They said they would put my original screen back in and return it. And so I walked in with a fully working iPad and left with a completely broken iPad (now with a fully shattered screen). What irritates me is their response to this whole situation. At one point, they accused me of lying about the previously working condition of the iPad. They offered me absolutely nothing except the return of a now-unusable device. A more customer-oriented operation would have at least had some conversation on "how can we make this right". But instead it was, "Here is your now-broken iPad". I understand and accept the fact that repairs may not always go according to plan. But to refuse to make even a token gesture in the interests of customer service astounds me. I will never use them again and recommend that others avoid them, or the the risk of having a $600 iPad turned into something worthless. read more

Advanced Micro Systems was pretty excellent. Contrary to some of the other yelp reviews, they were true to their timing and pricing. I had my MacBook Pro (early 2011) repaired here and its running good as new! When I dropped my computer off, the tech was out sick, but they called the next day and diagnosed the issue and asked for my consent before going any further. At that point I was promised 3-5 business days until I can pick it up - and they delivered! They called me on a Friday and my mac was ready for pick up by Tuesday! This was such a relief for me since its finals week. Overall their work was minimal - they had to send it out to apple to replace the actual logicboard. My advice: research the issue before turning it in, I'm glad I went through AMS because judging from the apple discussion boards this repair would have cost me $600+ instead of the $369.99 (including labor & parts). And believe me when I say I tried everything before bringing it in, but I'm definitely glad I did. read more

Pretty good experience. I was looking for an iPad and wanted a refurbished or new iPad 2 (not the newfangled iPad 3, I'm not super-rich... yet). After poking around the Apple store's site and filtering through Craigslist, I ran into a CL ad for a brand new (WHOA) iPad 2 the exact size and network I wanted for about $180 less than the Apple store's price for a refurbished one. I called the store to make sure it was still available, and a woman put it on hold for me so I could come the next day and get it. I came in and, though the counter person had to search for about 10 min to find the one on hold for me (making me quite nervous that it had been sold), it was there and was still wrapped, as they'd said! He showed me a bunch of accessories for it but didn't pressure me to buy any, just answered my questions, which is refreshing. I recently had my iMac serviced here (6 years old) - Originally I took it to Apple and they recommended a certified apple repair center. The iMac would not boot up due to a disk drive that was on the verge of failing. Micro Systems was able to extract the data, install a new disk drive and fan, and re-load my iMac back to "almost" original state. I was very pleased with the service and will go back if I have other apple hardware problems. The only reason I did not give a full 5 stars is the amount of time it took and the lack of follow up. I was fortunate to have a backup and another computer to use as it took about a week to get my computer returned. Also, I needed to initiate the calls to find out the status of the work. I called them up and asked if they could repair cracked iPod screens, and they said yes, and offered me $50. So I go there, and I tell them I've been offered $50 over the phone. The lady goes out in the back and returns to tell me that the parts aren't included, which would cost $60 extra, making it $110.00. I've been offered $75 before, but that was in Los Angeles, too far from Torrance. I'm thinking of coming back and just paying the money, but it's highly unlikely. I might go to the other Torrance places and check out their prices, also asking if the price includes the parts, and there's no extra charge for anything like parts. Save your money!!!! I had a very old Macbook that crashed. I could not turn it on after trying everything I could find on the internet. I took my laptop to Deviceland as I had seen the store driving by several times. They specialize in Macs so it seemed very promising to get my computer either working or retrieve my data to which I had SPECIFICALLY told them needed to be able to be transferred to a Windows PC not another Mac. I was told that if the backup was easy it would be around $250 and if it was difficult to retrieve it was close to $500. I was called the same day and told that they were able to recover the hard drive. Great news I thought. Come to find out they had literally just taken out the hard drive, put it in an enclosure device. The guy that helped me plugged it into his Mac to show me all my files and I asked again if it would work on a PC and he said yes. Well.....not true. A Mac hard drive is not formatted to be read on a Windows PC so the enclosure was rendered useless for me. I called them back the next day and explained the situation and all I was told was they did not have the tools to format the drive correctly. So pretty much I could just have taken my laptop elsewhere to have it backed up. No need for me to have a hard drive in an enclosure if it's not going to work. Do your research first. read more

I've read a few of the negative reviews on here and have to sympathize with computer related frustrations, but I don't think it's fair to take it out on the company trying to help you. Much frustration comes from not fully understanding what the problem is, how much it will ultimately cost, and not realizing that anywhere you go outside the Apple store will charge you a diagnostic fee. That's the price you pay for not having to set an appointment just to wait in line, or wade through the chaos of an Apple Store. But if you know something is wrong with your computer and you know it needs to be fixed, that fee will most often get applied to the cost of parts and labor. If all you want is a diagnosis and to price out a fix, then go to the Apple Store or have a conversation with the tech at a third party place and ask if they know a ballpark price before you leave it for diagnostics. This way you can get a feel and decide if you trust them to work on your machine or not. If you still don't like who you are dealing with, then go somewhere else. I actually found the folks at AMS to be very friendly and kind. I'm sure they have a job similar to the police, where they are just dealing with angry frustrated people all day, so you walk in and they are quiet, expecting to deal with another jerk. Approach with a good attitude and ask them how their day is going and they open right up with a smile and a conversation. Parts and Labor come at a similar cost anywhere you go. $75 diagnostic fee isn't the worst I've encountered. There are probably cheaper ones out there, but there are definitely more expensive ones, and if you are getting it applied to the final cost, it doesn't really matter anyway. Don't give a company one star just because they are trying to operate a business and you didn't educate yourself on how things work outside the Apple Store. As far as Advance Micro Systems goes, I am finding their customer service to be spot on. I just got my 2011 Macbook Pro serviced there because the logic board went bad. A week after getting it back, the machine freaked out again. I took it back to them and they replaced it again for free under their 90 day warrantee. A couple days later it started beeping at me during use. This time we believed that the memory was an issue. They replaced it with their own at no charge while I sent mine back to OWC for a proper replacement. By this time I had to buy a new computer and waited a week or two before turning on my old one. When I finally did, it beeped at me and shut down again!. At this point most people would take their frustration out on the company, walk away, and give them a lot of attitude and bad reviews. Luckily I understand computers and know the fine folks at AMS have done their job to the best of their ability each time I bought it in. Each time, they displayed a genuine understanding of my concerns and kept an admirably level demeanor in the face of my frustrations. They have shown a real drive to help me get to the bottom of the issue and fix it. No one could have known what the root of this problem was until the machine had been used and the problem repeated. Unfortunately that's the only way to fix computers sometimes. Their communication throughout the process has been frequent and crystal clear. I never felt like I was getting shafted or couldn't trust them. Turns out I have a bad hard drive that is shorting out the logic board. Free of charge, they have replaced my RAM, replaced my logic board (a 3rd time), taken out the bad hard drive and replaced the necessary part. All the while keeping a positive attitude and offering very concise explanations on why I couldn't just pull out at this point and get my money back. It is in no way their fault. They calmed me down and explained things to me without ever once getting frustrated back at me. That is HUGE! Any other tech place I've dealt with has matched my frustration and left me feeling bad about needing to go through it at all. So far, Advanced Micro Systems has been the most calm, kind, polite, fair, trustworthy, and understanding third party, Apple certified, company I've dealt with in the greater Los Angeles area. I will most certainly go back to them (hopefully for happy purchases) and would recommend them to anyone as a competent computer repair shop. I'd like to close by saying this to the one star reviewers out there. Frustration is normal when your computer is broken, but remember that your attitude when you walk into a place will generally be mirrored back to you. Arm yourself with the understanding that there will be fees applied to diagnostics. Ask the person at the desk questions. If the person doesn't know the answer, ask for the tech, or someone who may know. Understand that they are doing you a complicated service and it takes knowledge and skill to pull off. Show that some respect and reflect on how you are treating them as people before you complain about their attitude. read more

My macbook seems to one problem a year for the last 3 years. I didn't want to take it to the mac store because the one I go to is too far away from my home, so when I found these guys I thought I'd take a chance. I've taken my laptop to a similar place while living in Minnesota, and didn't have a good experience, so I was a little apprehensive, but I have to say these people know what they're doing. I took my laptop in on a Wednesday and even though the guy said it would take 2-3 days, it took them a day! I was so happy to know they don't mess around. When I went to pick up I found out they just gave my laptop a used part and it worked fine. I don't mind my laptop having used parts, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than getting a new piece. Where do i even begin....on Friday June 25th i took my brand new MacBook (3 months old) in for a repair. I noticed something wrong with my screen so i brought it here for the repair. I dropped off Friday and was told to pick up on Monday. On Monday i went to the store to pick it up, i noticed additional damage. My MacBook was in excellent condition when dropping off. Upon receiving i encounter dents and scratches ALLL over, plus the actual new screen was installed crooked. I feel like my laptop is 5 years old with all the scratches and dents. I took it in to get fixed not for damages. They didn't even wanna take credit of the damage and told me "hey at least you have a new screen" These people are beyond unprofessional and should not be allowed to call themselves Authorized Apple Retailers. When they offered to repair the the additional damages. They didn't even want to document anything and wanted to keep the additional repair off the books. This was just horrible On top of all this they blamed me for the damage saying it was there before i dropped it off I had to sit on the phone with Apple Customers Service for hours before i was allowed to bring it in for an Apple to rectify the damages. I made the mistake and accidentally fell for a computer scam and was worried about the security of my laptop. After fiddling around, I ended up messing my mac airbook up and needed a reboot. I brought my computer here since I found them on Yelp. I figured the Apple store would take longer and be more expensive. I called and explained the situation over the phone and was urged to bring it the computer for a diagnostic. They didn't guarantee the data would be saved but they told me to try and back it up before I came into the store. Unfortunately, my computer was messed up so couldn't back it up and lost all the photos on my desktop and some other data. The diagnostic was $75 but they were able to get it back to an operating standpoint so at least I didn't have to buy a brand new computer. It took about 2 days for them to fix and they called promptly when it was ready for pick up. read more

I took in my MacBook Pro and had an overall pleasant experience with everybody here. I dropped it off on Monday and they told me they would run some diagnostic tests on my laptop to see what the issue was. They called me back the next day and explained to me what the problem was (in my case it was an issue with the battery). They ordered a new battery for me and had it ready early on Wednesday for me to pick up. They never tried to upsell me and even replaced 2 of my missing feet on the bottom of my laptop free of charge. And on top of all of that, they didn't charge me with a labor free. They were very accommodating to me, someone who is tech-challenged and I will most definitely be coming back here with any of my Apple needs. read more

I came here after my laptop's hard drive failed and I needed a repair. The Apple Store is relatively unhelpful, but they did help me in pointing me to AMS. It is a store that is affiliated with Apple, so repairs done here are the same as at the Apple Store. That means that warranties stand! The owner was super helpful because he actually knew what he was doing/talking about, unlike the so-called geniuses at the Apple Store. He even helped me with another computer at the same time! The site is currently under construction, but it is still open. The door is in the back of the building, but once the building is complete they will be in the front. I highly recommend skipping the wait times of the Apple Store and coming directly here. read more

This is an authorized Apple sales and service business, but it was much more than that for me today. It was a refreshing departure from the Manhattan Beach Store that I have dreaded going into for the last decade and a half. The long online wait for service appointments is over for me. The hordes of people attempting to get past each other in the overcrowding is over too. And it is much closer to my home. I did schedule an appointment two days in advance and arrived to find two other customers in the store with a third that arrived sometime after I started to describe my problem to one of the three pleasant and professional individuals working the counter. His name is Muhammad and he listened very intently to the symptoms of my iPhone that had turned into a brick after an over-temp in the Las Vegas sun. We couldn't get into my iPhone because the touch screen was failing to allow me to use my 4-digit access code. He sought help from an amazing young woman named Homon (I hope I spelled your name correctly) who adeptly and expertly breached the broken brick. I then met Karen who advised me that it would take an hour to diagnose my problem. I took my iPad and 5yr old grandson to a nearby Starbucks so that I would receive her email that would give me a verdict. Before we had finished the lunch, Karen sent me a mail that said my iPhone X was ready for pickup!! We raced back to find that the phone was in perfect working order with no data loss...I was astounded!!! This is a high-performance group in a very clean and orderly service and sales department and everyone that I spoke with there had an extraordinary customer service orientation and were very patient with an old tech-tard who will be grateful to visit their store to avoid the masses and the long drive of the big-box Apple outlets. When IO finally got one they never sent a confirmation. Horrible service at apple. I called Advanced Micro Systems which will be my first call next time. They told me the laptop was covered and I could drop it of anytime. The apple store was going to be 5 days to get an appointment and 10 days to fix - Advanced Micro Systems accepted my laptop the same day and called the next to say it was done. I even had them replace a failed fan and they only charged for the part - no labor. The employees were very nice, the owner seems very knowledgeable and the service was very fast. I needed my MacBook screen fixed and the staff at Deviceland was able to help me with my issue. You need to set up an appointment which them through the Apple website but it is quite easy to navigate. I was able to get my laptop back within a week which I think was a speedy fix. I was referred to Advanced Micro systems by Apple support because my iPhone had "touch disease". I tried to look up any prices online, but the website was no help at all. I wasn't able to call because like I said earlier, my phone was broken. So I drove 30 minutes to get here and it is a mess. They were doing construction, there was no signs anywhere and nowhere to park. Once I finally found the entrance, I was greeted and was informed this place charges more than Apple to fix the phone AND it takes longer. What kind of nonsense is that?! read more
