This mall isn't too big but I like the stores they have. I get all my heels and dresses for big events here, needless to say I make the drive for the good prices. Customer service is always good, I have never been treated poorly in ANY of the stores. Me and my dad go here every Monday. My birthday recently passed and my dad took me to this store inside the mall called "Perfume Gallery". They had everything, I later bought Hawas Classic Cologne but I noticed something strange. I paid 120$ for it but when I searched it up, the most common price was 14-40$. And so I got really pissed, and I searched up other colognes she had and she was over charging you like crazy. Don't go to this store! Not recommended. read more

This is a fairly small mall with a variety of shops. The thing I immediately noticed is that there is a strong Mexican community here; both shops and consumers. They even have a small section of the mall that's dedicated to very small shops run by the Mexican community. That small section was neat but it smelled musty though. There's a carousel in the middle as well as a train to ride. read more

Our family and went to the mall for the very first time earlier this week. We were curious to see what type of stores & restaurants inside of the mall. We parked at the main entrance and walked in and noticed a lot of barbershops and unique different shops inside of the mall. They also have other stores in there that are the other malls still have, but they have unique stores as offered inside of them all as well. They have a Dairy Queen Cinnabon, pretzel shops, popcorn, and more offered inside of the mall and other restaurants in the area as well such as red lobster, Olive Garden, Mexican, restaurants, target & more. We also located more restaurants & the end of mall including Mexican, restaurant, Chinese, pizza, and wings and more. We did notice it was a unique smell when we walked inside of the mall & in other parts of the mall; our suggestion would be to get a better ventilation system and also air freshener throughout the mal. And a few other stores in here, we did not care for their return policy, because its either store credit only and or no refunds or exchanges. read more

My family and I went to here yesterday to spend the day with are baby niece and stopped by AT&T to ask some questions about the WiFi service and to see if we could upgrade our phones, they had a great selection of cellular services and all that good stuff! The girls were amazing they treated us so well! We can definitely see that they value what the customers need and know how to help ! We don't remember one of the girls name but one of them was named Monica and they were super sweet and kind!! We definitely recommend going here for any help with WiFi or Cellular services! Very interesting mall! I needed to go to Bath and Body Works, so came here. The mall seems pretty empty considering Christmas is nearly here. I didn't recognize the vast majority of stores here, but it was fun walking around and window shop. There is a Dillard's Outlet store that had fantastic prices. I've tried 3 different food places on the 3 different occasions i've visited this mall and all were bad! Not authentic food. They don't have many know stores, maybe 4 are still up and running. This gigantic mall is tailored to Hispanics. Now there is nothing wrong with that. However! You will notice at each entrance, that there is a Code of Conduct openly displayed. That alone should send you a clue that this just may not be the respectable place that you thought it was. But "I ain't never scared". This is the ONLY mall that I know of that have an onsite flea market (swap meet)! How can this be?! Don't get it twisted, there are the "high-end" retail stores. lol. ...Sears, Dillard's, Victoria Secret, Finish Line, Foot Locker... and then there is a Couple of Nuts, East Africa Hair Braiding (heeey!), Swaggz, Puchungis Shoes, Miriam's Fashion and more!!! Cinema Latino is on the property and they have the latest movies. It will take you a couple of hours to walk the entire mall. There's something for everyone. I give 4 stars because it is a unique mall, we found a Spanish market inside of American mall. I haven't see something like it before, we felt like we were in Mexico. Vendors very friendly, you will find artisan and custom items, it has its own food court, I could say it very Mexican traditional place. I recommend it for the experience and don't forget to bring your sneakers because you will find yourself into a maze and you won't stop looking around. read more

There are two types of people that you will find at this mall. The first are the type that love it and come here all the time. Will most likely be wearing boots and a large, shiny belt buckle or tight, leopard print spandex. The second are the type that are at the mall for something specific or didn't know what they were getting into. They may have confused looks on their faces, walk fast and don't make eye contact. It's true, like others have mentioned, many of the brand name stores are closed and empty. Do not come here if you are having a good day. It will get sad rather quickly. I hadn't come here in a long time. We came to buy our son's christening suit and were able to find one, yay! We were gong to promptly retreat but we were sidetracked when our son wanted to ride one of those rides you put coins in. As soon as we put coins in, kids flocked to his ride and started climbing all over it, with no parents in sight. It was a war zone. But alas, we survived. There are no complaints on my end. Well i visited this mall today...and i really can't say much that i haven't read from other reviewers. I know it is in a Latino neighborhood...but that is no excuse for it to be such a bad shopping experience for anyone Latino or not. I have been to very big malls, small malls, strip malls, expensive malls...and even very bad malls...but this is the WORST mall i have ever been to in all of my travels. The neighborhood, once again is not an excuse, because down the road just a couple of miles is a nice shopping area, nicer homes and even the expressway which leads to very nice areas just a couple of miles away. If the mall is going to have problems with keeping tenants there...or even keeping the lot and mall areas presentable for customers then they need to close the entire mall. Desert Sky seeks to fill the demands of its Maryvale customers, but ends up sucking anyway. Don't get me wrong, I like some aspects of this mall...like how so many businesses are independently owned. Virtually everything in the food court is one-of-a-kind. Even the McDonald's has been ousted. Bravo. That being said, just because it's independent doesn't mean it won't blow. You'll find tons of cheap crap on "sale", but you're really overpaying for clothes that won't last. In between stores, you'll encounter some of the most aggressive salespeople in any mall ever. In most shopping centers, they can afford to be reasonable and soft with their approach. Here, there is no way to escape them without being a jerk. The anchor stores suck so bad. Except Burlington Coat Factory, which is always awesome. La Curacao is basically a Spanish Best Buy--except worse--with even higher markups and some credit practices that raise an eyebrow. Sears is the worst Sears I've ever set foot into. Good luck finding any decent selection of clothing or electronics. Full disclosure: I've held several jobs throughout this mall as a teenager. READ THIS-THEY LIE! They sent me the 'so called' preapproval for their buy now pay later in store credit line. I read the entire ad front to back, it is explicitly written in no uncertain terms that they are offering a buy now pay later. However, after you select your items in store and proceed to check out, they demand an 70% down payment. The higher the credit line, the higher the down payment. The credit line offer is a complete lie! I drove an hour each way and spent even more time filling a shopping cart all day because they solicited me with a buy now pay later offer. If im going to put 70% down, I may as well just pay cash at any of the 50 other stores along the way that didn't lie to me to get me there. The credit line offer is false advertising. They insisted on $800 down for a $1000 purchase on a $1350 credit line. What was the credit line even for? Who in their right mind would do business with these people after they just lied through their teeth to get you there. Complete waste of my Sunday. They deserve a zero. read more

People love to rag on Desert Sky Mall, like it's an American Idol contestant or a homeless person. Like your criticism is essential to its existence. "It's too small. They have nothing good. It's so cheap and dirty. It's a shit mall. You're better off going to Arizona Mills or Arrowhead." Like the people who drive all the way out to Westgate and still manage to muster the inanity to complain of how it isn't Scottsdale, these same jibbajabberers clearly have no grasp on the area and its economic status. They don't live here (surprise), and make a point to mention EVERY TIME they visit the west side how much they hate it. Yeah, fuck you too. Sure, Desert Sky is ghetto. Because IT'S IN the ghetto. There's a reason so many people take the bus to this mall. It's not because they're environmentally aware. To better illustrate the socio-economic climate of Desert Sky, I have prepared a neatly compiled bullet-point presentation. * At any given moment, one or more stores in DSM is going out of business. Some don't even make it over the 6 month hump. So if you see something in that smoke shop you really like, better get while you're there, because next year it'll be a perfumery. * They can't even afford decent food court food. Other malls have Orange Julius and Hot Dog on a Stick. They get Flaming Wok (who carries the exact same menu as Panda Express but still manages to somehow be less authentic) and a Subway counter staffed by seemingly invisible sandwich artists. * And you thought the "free samples" guy at your mall was annoying. DSM has the most aggressive kiosk workers in all of mall-hood. Their cell phone plan is such an affordable value that they're willing to barrel through other patrons and ambush you behind signs and walls to let you know how awesome their deals are. Sure, you didn't want that sugar-coated nut, but at least nobody was injured in the process. Except maybe the underpaid workers whose nut-harvesting skills were exploited by their cheapskate employer. * It's pretty common knowledge that one of the department stores (hint; shares it's name with an island and a type of blue-colored liqueur) will issue you a store credit card on the spot. No application process. No waiting period. No wonder everyone comes here packing heat. All these people in holey shirts and torn up jeans walking out of stores with brand new stereos and speakers, their faces shifty with looks of guilt and/or disbelief. * The "special attractions" here blow. Business is so bad the caricaturist is closed on weekends. ON WEEKENDS. I went to the mall yesterday and the Santa they brought in had ONE kid waiting in line to get their picture taken. One. People can't even afford to TELL Santa what they want for Christmas. Woe upon the world. * The Steve and Barry's here is closing down. How FUBAR'd is the economy when not even the combined endorsements of Amanda Byrnes, Sarah Jessica Parker, and the WWE can sell your 9 dollar jeans? * I have on more than one occasion been asked by fellow patrons not to eat my Pretzel Time in front of their kids, or they'll be forced to explain to them why they can't afford such snacks. Desert Sky did such a good job of reinventing itself as a big neighborhood mall for a largely Hispanic, working-class neighborhood that the Wall Street Journal did an article about it. If you're not from the neighborhood, visiting is kind of an anthropological experience, and you need to be up for that more than for "quick! find what I need!" shopping. One former store is now Curacao, which is sort of the Latin American version of the old Service Merchandise, only with a focus on offering consumer credit to the underbanked. (Remember catalog showrooms? So 1980s!) The mall stores are a mix of familiar retail chains and local stores. The local ones do come and go; but in our chain-centric world, I think it's cool to see local entrepreneurial spirit. Apparently the locals do, too, as on a weekend afternoon, the place is packed. Another entire former department store -- I think it's the old Mervyn's -- is now an indoor swap meet. So really, you will have the best time if you're in the mood for an indoor swap meet but also need to pick up a couple of things from a major chain store and also have a craving for some Mexican street food and maybe spiced nuts. Desert Sky can do that thing, and it can do it with mariachi performances in center court. read more

This mall is decent not the greatest but it's decent some of the stores definitely need work on things like Hot Topic they had hardly anything compared to all the other times I've gone in to buy shirts there pretty bad. And I got my ears pierced there that was way over priced I spent $48 on just getting my ear pierced including the super small after care gel they give you for $8 it should really be a lot cheaper like how some other places are. We go there all the time. My daughter loves Mexican candy and she likes playing in the play area. That being said, there's lots of room for improvement. Yes, it's mainly directed towards Hispanic customers and I'm fine with that. Most people you see walking around are Hispanic and you'll hear a lot of Spanish spoken. On Sundays (which is when we usually go) you see lots of families gathering there. It reminds me of malls I've seen in El Paso, TX, for example. The place itself isn't bad kept. I'd say they keep it fairly clean. They have lots of different stores and some restaurants not just Mexican food but Mexican's mainly what you'll find specially in the opposite side of the courtyard. They have a small kind of like a swap meat area and you can find all kinds of things there from jewelry to pinatas to cell repair places to a wedding dress. Lots of little Mexican restaurants in this area too and I'd say the food they serve here's pretty authentic. Obviously they cater to Mexicans so they have to make it like that which is fine because there aren't that many "hole in the wall" kind of places where we live. I don't feel like I'm gonna be robbed like other reviews say but I can see how someone may feel out of place if they're not used to being in a loud place full of kids, too. I mean, it's like a big Mexican party! People everywhere, loud music, kids jumping all over the place, kind of chaotic but it all flows, you know? The parking situation's OK. I mean, the lot's huge but I was told years ago this is the least safe place to park your car because that's where most cars are stolen in the city. I'm not sure it's true and we've never had a problem, though. All in all it's OK. I prefer to go to Bell and go to Arrowhead just because it feels more spacious, cleaner, less crowded and it's less loud too (and they also have a MAC store which I use sometimes) but Arrowhead doesn't have the yummy Mexican food/candy so you gotta figure out what you want and pick the best of the two. read more

Wtf happened to this mall? If you were around in the 80's it's name was Westridge Mall. It's where teens would go hang out if they lived in the west side. It was happening with many popular stores suck as KB Toys, Mervyns, JC Penney, Waldenbooks, etc. It was what you would call a typical mall. All races, not just Hispanic. Fast forward 30 years and it's a shit hole. All the name brand / familiar stores are gone. Sure u still have Dillard's, BBW, VS, but then the rest of the mall is like as someone mentioned being in an indoor swap meet. This is a good mall if you have kids and going to the mall is equivalent to a playground. There is no relaxing place in the mall if you are elderly or you just want to shop in peace. I suggest leaving a quiet area for those that don't want to hear the rides making noise. It was so noisy in the food court. This is not a mall, it's an indoor swap meat, with stores directed to a primary ethnicity, the food court had no name brand establishments except for Orange Julius which btw was very good for my first time, but that's all I recommend in this dump. Other than that you have a Cinema Latino on the outside showing fairly recent movies, this place just looks super run down. When I first walked in I thought I parked on the wrong side of the mall, super empty, not one store did I even want to go in, take your money somewhere else, don't even think about coming here, yelp somewhere else NOW! Your better off shopping online than coming here. The whole mall is equivalent to a Ross or Marshalls, just twice as much square feet. I was so depressed coming here that I wish I could get my money back for the gas I spent to even drive Here! Not your typical mall. Definitely geared toward the Hispanic crowd, which makes sense because there is a lot of Hispanics that live in the area, including myself. One of the department stores that used to be there was converted into a huge indoor swap meet, with a food court inside. The mall itself isn't too bad, they have a couple of good stores that are what keep me coming back(Foot Locker, Finish Line.) Word of advice, avoid going on Sundays. read more

Eek! Says it perfectly. Maybe it's because I am a white girl with blonde hair, blue eyes, and was raised in the suburbs, but this mall terrifies me. The husband got a baseball hat for Christmas and we had to return it here of all places. As soon as we walked in, I instinctively clutched all of my valuables to my chest and grabbed the husband's hand. I didn't release that position until we were safely back on the road.
