I've had some life-changing events in the past couple of years and felt I needed to be more ME! I have curly-wavy hair and a few months ago decided to just let it BE. I went to my usual hair salon and, unfortunately, was given a cut that really wasn't technically correct for my new curly style. I was casting about for a new stylist and found Loni's Desert Curls. I was absolutely thrilled that this service exists...specific care and cut for me, a curly-girl! Every aspect of the appointment was professional. Loni had clear communication prior to the date including specifics for what to do beforehand to make her time with me and my hair more efficient. Loni is really well-educated and shared so much information with me. I appreciated that, as curly is a whole new thing for me. She is super open, friendly and communicates well. The cut is perfect, and, I was trained, thoroughly, on how to easily maintain my beautiful hair. I purchased some organic products which were carefully demonstrated by Allison, Loni's Super-Assistant (also a very curly-girl)! Both of these lovely people make you feel well-cared for. This woman does literal miracles to your hair and your confidence. She has gotten very big in the area so booking with her can take a while . I believe I had to wait about 2 and a half months to see her but it was totally worth the wait . She helped me love my natural hair again. I got extensions which she ordered and installed. Super pricey but so worth every penny if it means your confidence bumps up from a 3 to a 10! There's never a dull moment, she's so fun and easy to talk to! This review is NOT for Desert Curls hair styling services, but my initial outreach in trying to set an appointment and my customer service experience. Today, I tried to book an appointment with Desert Curls. I followed the instructions posted on their website which states to text or email appointment requests providing your full name, desired services, a picture of your hair and what your hair goals are. Issue number 1. I texted and emailed around noon just to be sure my message was received. I didn't receive a response until after 9pm at night same day...nearly 9 hours later? Issue number 2. I was told that "books are closed" in the replied text. Whatever that means? I don't own a business nor have I ever owned a business. I can only assume they are overbooked, on vacation or going out of business? I was offered to check out hair tips on their website instead which I didn't bother to look at. Frankly, the whole reason I reached out to (what I thought) was a professional business to drop over $300 was not to be referred to at home remedies and quick tips. Thanks, but no thanks. If "books are closed" I suggest updating your website to reflect that, so people don't continue to waste their time trying to get a hold of you and book appointments just to be told no. The plus side is I received a response from another curly hair specialist (there are several) in the area within an hour of reaching out that charges half of what Desert Curls does and can achieve the same results, meaning I'll be saving about $150. read more

Long overdue written review, although I've given plenty of verbal reviews to the many people who compliment my hair or ask who does it. I had three appointments at Desert Curls over the course of about 9 months, this is not a one-off review. Thing is, she's not a bad stylist, but she's NOT the one doing the work you're paying big bucks for. The assistant (the two I've met there were both very good thankfully) does a majority of the work. You're essentially paying for their training. Each of the 3 times I had an appointment, they were late 25, 15, and 35 minutes respectively. When I called her out on that, she decided she wasn't the right stylist for me, proving that her time is so much more important than mine, even though I busted ass getting out to her salon suite (aka closet) in BFE sparks to be on time. When you're spending $200-$300 each visit, you should feel good when you walk out of there! I was never pretty or young enough to get any after pics taken by her. I don't think she serves any overweight, old, or average looking clients. read more

BY FAR THE BEST CURLY HAIR STYLIST IN RENO!!! I repeat the best hair stylist in Reno. I am so thankful I found Loni to deal with my hair. First of all she is a queen, beautiful inside and out. I am always so comfortable sitting in her chair. Before I met Loni my hair was so dry, brittle, and I swear it lost its curl. I never wanted to style my hair because it was just so difficult to deal with. I hated my hair. Loni took the time and helped me revive my hair back to life. She dry cuts your hair so she can see what will look best for your face shape. She also does the dry cut to make sure she doesn't cut it too short because if you have curly hair you know it shrinks when it's wet. For me that is amazing because I have always had my hair cut too short in the past. Loni showed me the ins and outs of my hair and shared tips with me about my curly hair pattern that helped me learn how to style my own hair. Her technique is flawless and let me tell you IT WORKS. I wasn't a believer in someone cutting or styling my hair, but meeting Loni was a game changer. If it wasn't for her my hair wouldn't be amazing and beautiful. Loni is a master when it comes to hair, I call her The Curly Hair Goddess, she is amazing when it comes to the art of coloring, cutting, and teaching you how to manage curly hair. I know she works wonders for straight hair as well, but my hair is curly so this review is for the curly haired folks. What I love about Loni the most, is that she is always teaching and promoting education, that to me is AMAZING. I can trust that she is educated on the most current products...and all things hair. Loni always listens to the vision I have for my hair and makes it beautiful every time.
