I have been to this place several times. I am giving it 4 star review based on the food. This is actually Pakistani food versus Indian food. Pakistani food tends to more meat based and less vegetable options. We came here on a Sunday. They has quite a few To Go customers because they have a special on Sunday for breakfast. We got there at 12:30 and our waitress was very sweet. However, she was overwhelmed. There was another table that left due to the long wait. But, when we got the food, it was delicious. The vege samosas were very tasty and quite a bit of spice. We also got The Dera Grill Sampler which had chicken, beef, abs goat chops. The Chicken Tikka Masala was also very tasty. The Naan was light and fluffy. The Chicken Biryani was very tasty as well. This place has good food. But it has issues that every whole in the wall does. Sometimes, it is a little understaffed and the wait can be a little long. I think Pakistan/Indian restaurants are trying to survive in the post Covid era. They used to make most of their business with the buffet. But they are adapting to take out orders and limited staff for in person dining. If you are patient with the above issues, the food is worth it. We will definitely come back. read more

Feast of Pakistani Cuisine: Authentic ethnic food from Central and Eastern part of Pakistan. Perfect blend of ingredients and spices. Chicken Karara can only be ordered at Dera Grill. Qeema Naan(bread stuffed with spiced ground chicken) and Kachori can only be ordered at Dera Grill in DFW area. My first introduction to Indian cuisine was here many years ago. I had the lunch buffet and since then it has become one of my favorite cuisines. I love how flavorful and warming the Indian curries are and the satisfying bite of warm, fluffy naan dipped in them. Located in a little shopping strip, I was happy to find that this place was still open after all these years when I stopped in last week for the lunch buffet ($8.99.) We walked in and a gentleman gestured us to seat and help ourselves. There was nobody else there and it looked like we were the first customers at around 12:30pm. One other customer came in as we were leaving. This was surprising, because I recall them being quite busy for lunch before. The offerings were limited, though what they did have was good. The biriyani and tandoori chicken were still the star items for me. The chicken was flavorful and not dry at all like a lot of other places. The curries were tasty but was unfortunately barely warm. For dessert, they only had kheer, but man was that kheer delicious! I wish there were gulab jamun though. The only time we saw the staff was when a lady dropped off a basket of hot, fresh naan. The dining area is not in view of the counter. There was no clearing of plates or even asking if we wanted something to drink. Everything is self served. They have room temperature water in a dispenser on the buffet. Cups and utensils are also there along with napkins which are also at the table. Some may like this setup for a quick lunch option. We did. Would I come back again though? Probably not any time soon. I've had the pleasure of dining at many other places that offer more variety and awesome service. This place did not have to smack so hard. Hole in the wall place, not very up to date on the inside. There's actually a two sided dining area with the ordering and paying desk in the middle when you walk in yet there such limited seating. It looks as if they're working on the place but I know it's been like this forever. The food is worth the price, the long wait whatever. It's so so so so so good and tastes homemade. Several things on menu had a higher price than listed. Hungry, we still ordered. A HIDDEN TREASURE! This is a place for a meat eater who loves flavor. The meat was amazingly marinated and every item had its own flavor. That said my personal favorite was the dhaga Kabab- the meat was incredible soft and insanely flavorful, it was also quite big. Besides that the chicken karara was a favorite of my family. Every single one of the grill items we ordered was phenomenal in its own way and I can't say that enough. Each kabob came with a Naan, we got one roghni Naan which was basically the same thing as a regular naan but with butter and sesame seeds. After we tried half the grill items on the menu and were basically full, we decided to order the biryani and goat karahi. My dad described the biryani of having the smell and taste similar to student biryani he used to have in Pakistan. The karahi was also shockingly good because we were worried that the meat in the karahi wouldn't be cooked enough, which was a problem we have encountered at other restaurants before, but that was not the case at all. The flavors were dancing in our mouths and the meat nearly melting in our mouth. The customer service was also fantastic, our server Michelle was the only one working at the time and she took amazing care of us and even let us order poori to eat with our kabobs since they allowed for more of the flavor to come through. I will say that this is not the most luxurious place in the restaurant world but due to Covid and the place seeming relatively new I think that can be excused. read more

The kababs are so good I had to go back but ordered take out instead. Ordered The Chicken Karara Kabab and Seekh Kabab for a small gathering at home. Also ordered naan. I called the order in one day in advance but when I called to confirm before pick up, no one knew where the order was. It caused some anxiety before the owner could be reached and all was sorted out. Upon reaching Dera Grill I was pleasantly surprised to see many more people serving and in the kitchen. Although the work flow still seemed a little raw, I think they are making changes in the right direction. The kabobs were awesome as usual. Portions were generous. Food was prepared fresh and initially I thought prices were reasonable but after opening the to go box eating the food, I do believe it lacks quality and quantity for the price. Mutton Biryani was almost like a salty oatmeal and rice grains were not separated like how they suppose to be. Also chicken dish was way over priced in my honest opinion. Everything had so much flavor, and their Kheer is probably the best kheer ive had! Not watery, thick and warm too! Perfect flavor! BEST PAKISTANI FOOD IN DFW This is my first ever review on Yelp and I was moved to write it after our visit to Dera. First off, the menu is unique and and our server was extremely pleasant and honest. We asked if the goat karahi was fresh and she said, it was, and it will take 40 minutes, which might have been worth the wait, but we were too hungry and ended up ordering Seekh Kabab, Chicken Karahi and Biryani. While we were waiting for our food, the manager/chef, Shahid Sahib came out and greeted us. He is a thorough Lahori who reminisced about his days in old Lahore walled city and went over how he prepared his food. He really puts his heart into it and you can see it in his creation. His karahi is the best karahi in the US - hands down. Dont judge the place by its decor (or lack thereof); when it comes to food, it will remind you of Lahore. Best Tandoori Chicken (on the menu it's Chicken Kasara) I've had so far in Texas. Chicken was flavorful, moist, and highly memorable - in a good way!! No mint chutney condiment but there is a mild tasty side sauce which is their version of raita. Unfortunately, they don't offer plain white Basmati rice - only a marsala biriyani style flavored rice. The side salad that comes with the entree was a little disappointing for me. I would have preferred a mixed green salad with spring mix, or a romaine/lettuce mix with cucumbers and tomatoes. I had the chicken karara, which was a pretty spicy chicken kabob served with salad and choice of naan or rice. Rice is a bad decision get the naan. The rice is just steamed unseasoned basmati rice, and the naan is pretty darn good. The chicken on this dish is bone-in and a little hard to eat, but it tastes fantastic. It was slightly less spicy than the typical vindaloo. There are boneless options available if you value convenience over flavor. Now, I have never been to India, but that was some damn-good tandoori food. Our dining party ordered the Chicken Kerara and the Chicken Boti (not the exact name but close). The Kerara was a spicy blackened orange delight. This is your classic tandoori dish. The meat is bone-on, so you have to work for your dinner. The chicken is honestly too spicy for me to make a meal of, but I'm kind of a wuss. The Boti was boneless, yet very satisfying. It was a cleaner meal that involved less work and is milder. I really enjoyed this with hot beautiful naan and this green yogurt sauce. Others have complained about the service, but I found it fine. The water carafe's at the table prevented any service problems. The only thing that was a little weird, was the open kitchen in the front. The work staff was blasting hardcore gangsta rap for the majority of our meal. It didn't bother me much, but it made for a bizarre ambiance. For me, it is all about the food. Went to Dera Grill for lunch today. We ordered chicken biryani, chicken karara and Beef bihari kebab. They brought our food out within 15 minutes. The food presentation was nice and the portion size was excellent. The kebabs were well done and juicy although chicken Biryani could have used a little bit more masala and naans were slightly burnt from the side.The place itself was clean but they could improve their inside decor. I won a complimentary meal from there last week but had hard time explaining it to the workers in the front they had no idea what I was talking about which was a little frustrating. I would recommend owner or managers to communicate their promotions and deals to all the workers in the front properly to avoid confusion. I was at Dera Grill on 12/19/2010 and took a Buffet to go. All the entree's looked fresh. When i finally tasted the food at home, it was fabulus. All items including Tandoori chicken, chicken Kabob, Nihari, Chicken Korma, and finally Chicken Karhai. I have'nt had a lunch like this in a very long time. This restaurant needs to be discovered by other dinners. Once discovered, this place should do "very well" as long as it continues to provide the quality and freshness. Myself being in this business for 27 years, i would give them atleast 4.5 stars. After tasting most of the Indian Food in DFW Area, i found that this place is the place to taste some real punjabi food. I have visited hundred of time now to this food place. Very very authentic and aromatic food. For Vegetarian- Pakoda Kadi, Palak paneer and Sarso Saag are the best options. My husband and I have been looking for a locally-owned place to patronize, and unfortunately Irving is awash in chains. I'd been driving past Dera Grill, and found good reviews here on Yelp, so we figured we'd give it a try. What a pleasure! Good service, perfectly spiced kebabs, and yummy naan. The salad was simple but fresh and properly crispy - and the dressing, served on the side, was a spicy, delicious surprise. Don't forget to add lassi to your meal - their serving is very generous, more so than other restaurants I've been to. My husband, who is not a very adventurous eater, loved his kebabs and enjoyed his first taste of naan and lassi. This is a hidden gem - go check it out! You won't be disappointed.
